TSP NEWS – Liver King, Rogue $$$, Open Numbers 03/26/24

Sevan Matossian (00:01):

Welcome to the news, and to be frank, it’s the least reliable news, man. It’s been forever. Welcome back, Chevy. Well, thank you. Good to be here. Let’s start off and come out hard, fast, and strong. Athena Perez, 43 pounds. Lost no, no, no. 45, 44 pounds lost 75 days into her journey. She writes 45 pound plate. I see you. Congratulations to Athena. Give up the hard work. I appreciate you keeping us up to date new CMO. It’s old news now. Hopefully sometime I can get her on the show. She graduated as a neuroscientist with a neuroscience degree from Princeton, similar to our affiliate owner that we had on the other day. Welcome aboard, Jenna Haka. Hope to see you soon. Hope to have you on the show. It’d be great to catch up.

(01:01):

You look like you’re half my age, so maybe your ideas will be twice as fresh. Brook Wells. Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. Yesterday we reported that Brook Wells and Telar Tomi both did not finish 24.3 this past weekend. We knew about Tomi wrist injury, but no one was expecting wells to stop short on the workout. Wells addressed situation yesterday afternoon on her YouTube channel where she explained she has a torn labrum in the video. Wells said she slipped and fell during a snow storm in Nashville the week after. Tear. What palooza She was carrying all of her bags from the gym slipped on ice and fell on her shoulder. God, that’d be a great video. God, I hope she gets better fast. What a struggle. What a struggle. I do not know how bad a torn labrum is. Maybe we can get Dr. Sean Rocket on here.

(01:51):

The orthopedic surgeon who has been with the CrossFit games forever and ever. Brooke, heal up quickly. You did the smart thing in handling the open. So did Tia. Anyone who thinks otherwise you’re batshit crazy. The open is now officially over more old news. 344,000 people registered for the open. Some people didn’t finish it. This was 6.7% increase over the 2023 open participation while the year over year growth was positive. There are some interesting findings. If you dig into the numbers, says the barbell spin, the fastest, most reliable new source in the CrossFit space. The open division includes 16 and 17 teenage boys and girls and masters divisions from 35 to 54 years old. This division registration increased 6.2%. However, the bulk of the growth is from the master’s division that are included in the open division. When looking at just the 18 to 34 age group of the open division, the men’s participation actually decreased. Oh, as you see, men’s participation in this range decreased 0.2% while the women’s side increased 3.9%. Very interesting. That’ll be interesting to see how that, excuse me, trend continues, but speaking of trends, and for anyone with half a brain, we’ve known this all along, is CrossFit dangerous? We’ll go through this a couple of times. These numbers that this gentleman, the barbell Physio is reporting are based on injury rates after 1000 hours of training. So if you train an hour every day, that’d be, these are injury rates every three years. Okay, here we go.

Speaker 2 (03:42):

CrossFit, injury rates, Olympic weightlifting, power lifting, recreational running, youth football, Zumba, CrossFit.

Sevan Matossian (03:51):

So he says CrossFit. Injury rates are about 0.27 to three for every thousand hours of training. Point two, seven to three

Speaker 2 (03:59):

Injury rates. Olympic weightlifting,

Sevan Matossian (04:01):

Olympic weightlifting, 2.4 to 3.3.

Speaker 2 (04:07):

Power lifting.

Sevan Matossian (04:08):

Power lifting. One per thousand to 4.4 for per thousand.

Speaker 2 (04:13):

Recreational running.

Sevan Matossian (04:14):

Running. What a shit show don’t ever run. 7.7 injuries per thousand hours of training.

Speaker 2 (04:20):

Youth football,

Sevan Matossian (04:21):

Youth football. Now, just get your head wrapped around this youth football for every thousand hours of training. 8.5 injuries to 43 injuries. I don’t think those are the injuries you want.

Speaker 2 (04:34):

Zumba,

Sevan Matossian (04:35):

Zumba, 3.9 to 5.7. We all know as the great Greg Glassman said, if you wish to build a hedge against cardiovascular disease, you’re going to have to take some risks with orthopedic calamity. This is just gratuitous gazen gazing Gaza, getting out of the sauna and getting into the ice tub. I think she took fifth at the CrossFit games last year. I’m going to say fourth this year. Holy cow. Gaza looking better than ever strong taking care of herself. She says, my favorite rest day activity got even better space for mobility. I could literally do this all day. She’s authentic as they come. Miss Anne got to get her back on the show, and then we take a shift, a pivot. You could say, I knew this name from many, many, many years ago. I want to say I knew of this guy. I did not know him, but I would see him around this CrossFit scene maybe in 2008.

(05:49):

John Douglas Birch 54 has been charged with traveling to engage in elicit sexual conduct under 18, an enticement of minors to engage in sexual explicit conduct and prostitution. Maybe I read something wrong here, but here’s the part. Here’s the real reason why I’m bringing this up. Not because I think maybe this is why Michelle Lara made a post. I think maybe it was in reference to this guy the other day. She was referencing something about sexual misconduct and her team taking it seriously. I’m not sure if it’s around this guy or not, but those incidents kind of came out at the same time. But this is the part. This has nothing to do with CrossFit. This has to do with parenting. In 2014, the FBI said, Birch met a girl in Pennsylvania who was 13 or 14 years old via the online chat. This is where he groomed her to become his sex slave. According to court documents. Listen people, listen people. Why does your 13 or 14-year-old daughter have a cell phone? CEO shirt spotted in the wild? DJ Aoki. Aoki. Liver King looks like a fun party.

(07:04):

There it is. You saw it. You saw it in the background there. Oh, there it is. Liver king, CEO shirt in the wild board, shorts, liver king’s, beautiful wife. It’s always fun to see a CEO shirt in the wild. Thanks for repping CrossFit’s. Got a new course speaking to Kids. Purpose of this course is for educators, teachers, or anyone who works with children to learn how to improve the quality and efficacy of their physical education programs through an introduction to CrossFit and its core principles and training methodologies. This is a CrossFit educators course for children ages three to 11, not the people who take it, but if you teach kids age three to 11, by the way, you could ask me anything on that subject. I am a expert.

(07:54):

The course costs $90. You get CEUs, three of them continued education units. I can’t give you any of those. Visit this link for more information. I believe this is an online course and I bet you it’s good. So there you go. There’s a new offering for those of you who want to learn more about CrossFit, especially those of you who want help, the kiddos, especially if your parents, or you can go to my three Playing Brothers YouTube state page and just get schooled right up. Or you can pay me $500 now and I can consult for you. Here we go. The Rogue Iron Game Rogue Athlete Fund. I dunno what the fuck this is for, but listen. Listen. Anyway, we are super excited to announce the introduction of strong women to the 2024 Rogue Invitational. So that’s coming up. That’s that thing in Scotland. Arnold Sports and Rogue paved the way to create this shared stage in 2022. Alright, fine. Fine. Rogue has carried the highest prize person strongman for the past three years. That’s cool. Alright, now we’re getting to some meat and potatoes. Here we go. Katie Henneger. Bill Henneger very proud to announce that strong woman will carry the same prize purse. This is the same in the CrossFit competition in which men and women have shared the same prize purse since the inception.

(09:20):

Alright, if you want strong men and strong women to get paid the same, your wish has been granted. See you guys tomorrow. Bye-Bye.
