The REVIEW of The Dave Castro WIR | Feb 26th 2024

Matthew Souza (00:00):

I know. Shit.

Sevan Matossian (00:01):

Bam. We’re live. Oh my goodness. Jeremy World. Wow. Anita, Dick, me. Hey. What’s up girl? Nothing like a tooth gap. Jeremy. What’s up, dude? Wow. First time a fellow black man has beaten me here. Oh, a fellow Black. Oh, gotcha. Anita Augustus link. Hey, what’s up first white guy? Jeremy. I hope 12 daily doses calls that. We don’t have time for that today, but thank you.

Matthew Souza (00:27):

Although that

Sevan Matossian (00:27):

Was welcome back to the show. Hey, Susan. What’s up dude?

Matthew Souza (00:29):

Hey, how you doing?

Sevan Matossian (00:31):

I’m good. I’m together. Deathly. I’m all sinus up. I’m all

Matthew Souza (00:37):

We’ll sound the

Sevan Matossian (00:38):

I’m coagulated Patrick Anderson. Hey, afternoon fellas. Glad to be here for a live one. Nice glasses. I was able to get run in and get a quick brush of the matian.

Matthew Souza (00:51):

Nice.

Sevan Matossian (00:52):

Yeah, and that made me feel pretty good. And then my wife’s bringing me, told her to put together a couple concoctions after the show. I went for a four mile walk with the boys along the beach.

Matthew Souza (01:08):

Beautiful. How was the weather? It’s not raining out there.

Sevan Matossian (01:11):

No. It drizzled a little bit in the beginning, but all good.

Matthew Souza (01:13):

Nice.

Sevan Matossian (01:14):

But I was hoping that I would walk, so get the snot,

Matthew Souza (01:18):

The F flynn out.

Sevan Matossian (01:19):

Yeah, the snot flowing. Oh, the Dave Castro weekend review just published 37 minutes ago. Oh, Dave looks sweaty. I would say greasy, but that could be misconstrued. Being my boy. Dave’s heritage. I would hate to get canceled. So let’s just say sweaty. He looks hardworking. Yeah. Greg Ghost. What’s up, dude? Live first. Live in months. Thanks for the afternoon show. Anytime. Anytime for a fellow pistol or been known to do a pistol or two.

Matthew Souza (01:51):

You can pistol. Good, good.

Sevan Matossian (01:55):

I got a few tricks up my sleeve. I don’t know if I can actually, I’ll try today.

Matthew Souza (01:59):

Okay.

Sevan Matossian (02:00):

I’m big dude. I’m one 70 right now.

Matthew Souza (02:02):

Nice.

Sevan Matossian (02:03):

Yeah, I’m big.

Matthew Souza (02:04):

That’s close to where I am.

Sevan Matossian (02:06):

I’m a big boy. I’m a biggins.

Matthew Souza (02:09):

I’m at a 1 77 0.5.

Sevan Matossian (02:12):

Wow. Okay. Put that in perspective. Adrian Bosman is 1 65.

Matthew Souza (02:17):

He feels thick too. He would give Adrian a hug. He’s like, yeah,

Sevan Matossian (02:20):

He’s wide. He’s like a flying squirrel. He’s wide in the shoulders.

Matthew Souza (02:24):

Yeah. Hey, you know what we should do? We should bring this, or maybe we shouldn’t, or we should bring this in body scanner to the house. I’ll bring it over next time. And we for me, you? Yeah,

Sevan Matossian (02:33):

Thank you. It’s going to spit out a card. Please. Only one at a time,

Matthew Souza (02:40):

Sir. You have three legs apparently on here. What’s happening? I

Sevan Matossian (02:43):

Dated a girl who was so fat. She got on a scale and the card popped out and said one at a time. Old Dangerfield joke riding Dangerfield. Thank you. Dated this other chick. She was a two bagger. You put a bag over my head in case the bag over her head breaks another Dangerfield joke.

Matthew Souza (03:05):

It’s like my dad’s joke right there.

Sevan Matossian (03:07):

This chick was ugly. Lemme tell you. She was a shitty cook too. Leave dental floss in the kitchen and the roaches would hang themselves. I know the whole routine.

Matthew Souza (03:23):

Wow.

Sevan Matossian (03:24):

As petting her cat was the hair under her arm.

Matthew Souza (03:28):

He said, God, these jokes are so bad. I love Dangerfield

Sevan Matossian (03:32):

As a kid.

Matthew Souza (03:38):

Oh,

Sevan Matossian (03:41):

I just aborted a baby.

Matthew Souza (03:43):

Jesus. Olivia’s digging him.

Sevan Matossian (03:47):

Yeah,

Matthew Souza (03:48):

Keep going. That’s what she said.

Sevan Matossian (03:51):

Yeah. Thank you. Damn, Olivia, you are something else. Alright, here we go guys. We don’t have a lot of time for this shit. Let’s do it at 7.5 speed.

Matthew Souza (04:04):

Wow. Okay, let’s rocket

Sevan Matossian (04:07):

Dave Castro. We can review. The title is February 26th, 2024 Mayhem Podcast. Oh, I listened to that. I wonder if it’s the same one. Open Mushroom, triple Crown, final points in CF Medical Society. CF Medical Society. What the fuck is that thing? Okay, here

Matthew Souza (04:22):

We go.

Dave Castro (04:23):

February 26th, 2024. Week in review

(04:28):

At bmac. 1, 1 4. Dave, I heard that Hilard was banned from the open. He took peptides. I’ve been mixing those collagen. Collagen peptides in my coffee that comes from Costco. Am I still allowed to compete? Let me know if I’m not, I might as well take D ball, Winnie, epo, var, et cetera, and compete in Peter enhanced games. dmac, if I can track down and figure out who you are and you are registered for the open. No, you’re not allowed to compete. You’d be booted out for admitting that you’re taking performance enhancing drugs. Well, actually mixing collagen peptides. I don’t know what collagen peptides you’re mixing. So actually I don’t want to say you’d banned. I don’t know what you have going on. Ooh.

Sevan Matossian (04:59):

Ooh. That was an emotional response from Dave.

Matthew Souza (05:02):

Triggered.

Sevan Matossian (05:03):

Triggered.

Matthew Souza (05:04):

He was

Dave Castro (05:04):

Triggered. He was using, but what he was using was definitely banned to the other point. Yeah, go ahead and do all

Sevan Matossian (05:10):

Of not what he was using, what he said he was using. There’s an important distinction there.

Matthew Souza (05:14):

Yeah. Juice,

Sevan Matossian (05:16):

Testosterone,

Matthew Souza (05:18):

Collagen peptides.

Sevan Matossian (05:19):

I don’t think it was the peptides that Hiller was booted for.

Matthew Souza (05:22):

No.

Sevan Matossian (05:22):

Okay.

Dave Castro (05:23):

In his enhanced gangs, if Peter Thiel was smart, he would contact me and ask me to program and organize and run a CrossFit all functional fitness piece of his enhanced games. That would be fucking epic.

Matthew Souza (05:39):

Holy

Sevan Matossian (05:40):

Shit.

Matthew Souza (05:42):

Wow.

Sevan Matossian (05:45):

Please. I want in on that too. And I know a lady who wants in on that. Sarah Cox, California Peptides. Who

Matthew Souza (05:51):

Did he say? Peter? Who?

Sevan Matossian (05:53):

Teals the PayPal guy, the fucking billionaire. PayPal guy with him. Hey, that’s the guy that before you go to his house, they asked you if you’re allergic to anything because the chef needs to know.

Matthew Souza (06:07):

Oh, that’s some fancy shit. Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (06:09):

Hey, billion billionaire. Yeah,

Matthew Souza (06:13):

For sure.

Sevan Matossian (06:14):

Hey, dude,

Matthew Souza (06:15):

Food allergens we need to know

Sevan Matossian (06:16):

About. I don’t know if this is true, but bear with me. I think the spirit of It’s true. He’s one of the first, if not the first investor of Facebook with $500,000.

Matthew Souza (06:27):

Oh, shit.

Sevan Matossian (06:28):

Yeah.

Matthew Souza (06:28):

Yeah. So as long as he held in there for a while, this guy’s,

Sevan Matossian (06:32):

This dude Peter Thiel that Dave’s talking about. He was dating this guy and the guy’s mom that Peter was dating didn’t know that the guy was gay.

Matthew Souza (06:43):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (06:44):

Wait, Peter

Matthew Souza (06:45):

Thi

Sevan Matossian (06:46):

Peter Thiel. Sorry, who did I

Matthew Souza (06:48):

Say? Oh, you were saying a thiel.

Sevan Matossian (06:50):

I probably was. I probably was. I

Matthew Souza (06:52):

Probably was. I’m very familiar with Peter Thiel, his book One to Zero and his Investments, and he actually there a billion dollars in a 401k and learned how to teach his people how to do some crazy tax advantages with his 4 0 1. Yeah, okay. Gotcha.

Sevan Matossian (07:07):

Now I know. Do you know about the online magazine that he destroyed?

Matthew Souza (07:10):

Yes. Wasn’t it Business Insider? No, no, no, no. Because they’re gone. Right? The magazine that did

Sevan Matossian (07:17):

That? No, they’re kind of back, but with different owners. I think, God, I wish I could remember the name

Matthew Souza (07:22):

Of it. Okay. Peter Thiel. Yes, I know Peter Thiel.

Sevan Matossian (07:25):

But basically they outed this Peter’s boyfriend for being gay and his parents found out one, oh, you really do know him,

Matthew Souza (07:33):

This guy.

Sevan Matossian (07:34):

Anyway, that’s a story for another day. But anyway, it involved Hulk Hogan and anything, and Peter fucked these dudes up for out and his boyfriend.

Matthew Souza (07:40):

Don’t fuck

Sevan Matossian (07:41):

Him up. Fuck them up.

Dave Castro (07:45):

I’d have a lot of fun programming that all at

Sevan Matossian (07:47):

Donna. That should be done at the ranch too.

Matthew Souza (07:50):

Yeah, that’d be cool.

Sevan Matossian (07:51):

Yeah. Hey, that guy was on the podcast. Can we get that guy back on

Matthew Souza (07:55):

The Enhanced Games guy?

Sevan Matossian (07:57):

Yeah.

Matthew Souza (07:57):

Do you remember his name?

Sevan Matossian (08:01):

I think that was an old, I could

Matthew Souza (08:01):

Look it up. I could look

Sevan Matossian (08:02):

It up. Okay. That was an old Instagram account. I’m going to text you right now. Enhanced Games guy.

Matthew Souza (08:10):

Okay.

Sevan Matossian (08:12):

And I invited Kelvin Wiley onto the podcast.

Matthew Souza (08:15):

Okay.

Sevan Matossian (08:16):

The guy you sent me.

Matthew Souza (08:19):

Oh, did you see his account

Sevan Matossian (08:21):

Nuts? Fucking nuts.

Matthew Souza (08:24):

Oh, okay. I thought you’d find that interesting. I knew you were into insects.

Sevan Matossian (08:27):

Okay, here we go.

Dave Castro (08:28):

Ashburn 9 6 1 4. Thank you for the weekend review. Love the content and explanations of things in general. So happy you’re back and where you’d want to CrossFit. It’s not we’ll never thank you. Never be the same without, you can’t wait for the open and your announcement fla that only you will bring to it. So I’m wondering if there’s anything you can do to help the media drama at the game that I’m hearing. I am a mayhem athlete and follower on their podcast and they shared a letter from CrossFit HQ that stated they may or may not get a media pass. I heard a little bit that podcast and I heard they were super critical.

Sevan Matossian (08:57):

I just took a shot of Paper Street Coffee and I’m like, heart’s going bumping into the roof now. It’s awesome. I feel way better take

Dave Castro (09:04):

All of us and even beyond just that, taking jabs at us for many of the things we’ve done wrong over the years. On that note, I will say this, it’s better for people to know now that there’s a possibility that they might not get a pass rather than telling ’em several months from now. So they should actually, and I don’t know if they did, maybe they did. They should actually commend us on letting him know early this venue and this setup, people have to understand is very different than Madison. Madison was massive and it had all this footprint and floor plan and so many spaces where people were free to roam and the way we did things in Madison made a lot of sense in Madison. This is different. The way we’re doing things here. We have to do things that make sense for how we’re doing them here.

(09:48):

So we’re still working through the media plan and who’s going to get access. But yeah, a hundred percent, there’s going to be less of a media footprint there in the internal aspect of what’s going on in one stadium. Pretty much so like one stadium and then there’s also the spectator experience area. But at Madison you had the Coliseum, you had a massive venue for the warmup area. You had another area where all the gear was staged, you had the outdoor competition floor, you had vendor village. Here I’m saying we have this one area where all of the rogue equipment, the signage, the athletes are going to live and we’re going to be, it’s going to be a little more challenging logistically. So having the same number of media access that we’ve had in the past just isn’t realistic. We are playing with it and we’re going to look at it, but it is not going to be the same. And you know what? That’s okay. That’s the problem with doing things a certain way for a long time. People get set in their expectations and want it to always be the same. I’m running into this on a lot of different fronts right now, internally on different things going on. Change is okay, change is necessary and sometimes change is actually even good in moving things forward.

Sevan Matossian (10:53):

Two things in defense of what Scott was saying, and in of what Scott Vandersloot was saying on the Mayhem podcast, one of his big contentions was the fact that David was saying, you should commend us for telling you now, instead of waiting until later, and Scott was saying, Hey, if we would’ve just had a few more weeks notice, we could have bought tickets. So they released the sale of the tickets and then said there was a reduced media footprint and then all the tickets were sold. And so his thing is, is like, Hey, you should have told us before the tickets and we would’ve bought a row of tickets up in the front and different access points to put camera guys. So fair enough. But okay, I commend you guys on the Earlyness, but Scott does have some strong points. That being said, I personally am not worried at all because we did an absolute fucking crushing job at the games.

(11:39):

My team was extraordinarily nice to people. We carried people’s food. We looked out for the athletes. We made videos promoting the L one and the open. We went way above and beyond, and I don’t know, I’m assuming Mayhem does the same. I’m assuming that the people who’ve been in the game a long time have gone above way and beyond and recognize that rising tides flowed all ships and that it should not be a problem at all for those of us who are just hitting fucking grand slams for hq. I mean, just my entire team that I roll with pumps so much energy into the games, glorifies the athletes, respects the athletes at the venue. I mean, if I was drinking a water and I saw an athlete tired, I would stop. I mean, we have a next level awareness of everyone around us and what our role is there.

(12:32):

We are 100% support to glorify the event. The employees, the volunteers, the athletes, the vendors. We’re not supposed to say stupid shit when we get back home that like, Hey, I didn’t make any money there or we’re not there to complain. So yeah, I mean someone like me, I’m not worried at all. I don’t think Scott should be worried at all. I think, I’m sure Mayhem has done gone above and beyond. They shouldn’t worry at all. Are those beanies for sale somewhere? Yes. Go to indicate VN dk eight.com. I wish I had a yellow one. Patrick Clark always a great contributor. I put him in the very top tier. I put him in the tier two me level of contributors to the podcast and the comments. Additionally, maybe he’s on his own tier. Additionally, I’ve been to many events at Dickies. They had way more media accommodated for those events than CrossFit will have. Okay. Yeah. See, look it. Look it. Patrick X, everyone settle down. Chill.

Matthew Souza (13:31):

Do you think that it’s actually due to the downsizing of the event or do you think that they’re just using this transition as a great excuse to bring all the media back under their control for at least this year?

Sevan Matossian (13:41):

I didn’t even think of that second option. I believe them for their word, that they are stuck in one court and that the alleyways along offer, they have to decide that there’s limitations that the width of the venue causes with all the signage, scoring people, all that stuff that needs to be there. Patrick Clark, probably both. Dude. Why would they want to control it anymore? Do you have a theory for that? I mean,

Matthew Souza (14:11):

It just seems

Sevan Matossian (14:11):

We everyone murdered last year.

Matthew Souza (14:13):

Yeah, but it just seems like that’s just kind of been the nature of business lately, which is just try to control everything that has CrossFit attached to it that they have access to. If CrossFit’s putting on CrossFit’s event, it seems like they just want CrossFit to control that media that’s coming out of it and they don’t want it distributed by other people independently.

Sevan Matossian (14:35):

Well build that trust now. Build that trust now.

Matthew Souza (14:38):

And I’m also not saying that’s a bad thing either. I’m just saying it, it’s different.

Sevan Matossian (14:43):

Hey, they’re not going to stop Rich from going anywhere.

Matthew Souza (14:46):

No. That’d be really not a good move on their

Sevan Matossian (14:49):

Part. No, no.

Matthew Souza (14:50):

Especially with the camera. I mean, it just seems like free distribution of their stuff to me. One more quick thing,

Sevan Matossian (15:00):

I didn’t even mean Rich’s camera people. I mean him. He’ll be allowed anywhere. Oh, he’ll go anywhere. Having Rich on the sidelines is genius. Savon, how do we buy your toothpaste? You’re going to go to Doc spartan, doc spartan.com and they’re getting smashed. I think orders are delayed a week, but grab it. It’s so good.

Matthew Souza (15:22):

And I threw the link directly to the toothpaste in the comment. Also too, Jake, I think this week you are going to be in my hood, my man. So if you and Alex, if you guys need anything, shoot me a text. You have my number holler at your boy

Sevan Matossian (15:37):

Rosie View. I bought the tooth powder. Dude, awesome. You’re going to be stoked. Sweet. Okay, here we go. Maybe you could even just Google Matian. Hold on. I’m going to do that real quick. Lemme see. Try that. How do I spell my Nameth

Matthew Souza (15:57):

A T?

Sevan Matossian (15:59):

Oh, no, it just came up with the math Magician instead of Wow. Matian. I’ll put it in Matian Powder. Powder. No. Wow. It doesn’t come up. Okay. Lemme see. Doc Spartan. Okay. Yeah, you have to go to Doc Spartan and then you have to go to their search then. Yeah. Oh, there it is. You just scroll down. It’s on their homepage. Choose options. There we go. Excuse me. Peppermint or natural. There we go. Alright, back to Mr. Castro. Here we go.

Dave Castro (16:40):

To go on with your comment. You have a lot more. The training. Camp Beta teams give a huge coverage of the athletes, and I love seeing the behind the scenes in interviews with the athletes that draws the public and fans closer to them and gives us a little insight into them as people and athletes. If it weren’t for people like Sev, HWPO, proven buttery bros and others, we might not get that up close and personal with the elite. From what I understand, not this is what I was just talking about. There’s not a lot of space in the new venue, and that could be why you can’t allow so many media personnel. But if there’s a way you could allow one person from each camp to backstage access read the public would be grateful. These media teams bring a lot of free advertisement for CrossFit.

(17:11):

That must count for something, and so again, hear me out on this. I’m not even saying that they’re not going to get a pass. I’m saying it’s going to look different and we’re evaluating and determining what that’s going to be. I know you have a lot on your plate already, but if anybody could make a change, it is you. Thanks Ps. Thanks for the olive oil. Oh, thank you for the purchase. Missed out on the key chains. Maybe on the next run, tdc mercantile.com. That’s where you can purchase the olive oil that I sell. I also do regular leather drops on the site, so I create little, I’ve done belts and I’m doing little key chains just a couple hours in the evening over the course of several evenings. Just a little fun. I like making things so it’s sort of a creative expression for me, and so I’m selling that stuff also on the site where I do olive oil. Dave a being declared

Sevan Matossian (17:52):

Dave the sower. When Dave was a seal, he would customize his shit

Matthew Souza (18:00):

Like his

Sevan Matossian (18:00):

Gear. His gear. Yeah. That’s how he, that’s

Matthew Souza (18:02):

So fucking cool.

Sevan Matossian (18:03):

That’s how he got into it. I think that and with rock climbing, because he was way into rock climbing with some of the best rock climbers in the world, like Mark Twight, and so he would customize his gear and that’s how he got into heavy duty. Sewing

Dave Castro (18:16):

The goat of CrossFit on the coffee pods wad show. Can we get acceptance speech from you, perhaps a limited run of goat? All the oil is required. PS add UK delivery for the oil, please. I will work on the UK delivery probably in a few weeks when all the craziness of the open is over, but I didn’t even see that. Someone mentioned that to me. I don’t know what they’re talking about. I’ll look into it. At KZ oh eight, would you ever program a peer strength test like the total? Again, in competition, specifically semis, age group semis as there is only six events, so would mess up the leaderboard. So whenever you program something like that, you have to take into consideration everything else going on and the broader picture and intent of the programming. Something like that can be programmed in, but it has to be balanced out with the other things you do. So I can’t say that I wouldn’t. I would or could only if everything else makes sense to accept that in the broader scheme of the tests.

Sevan Matossian (19:01):

Yeah, no shit. He’s asking you if you’re going to do that. Yeah. No shit. Thanks Dave. God damn it. Maybe he’s going to run for office.

Matthew Souza (19:11):

That’s a good start here.

Dave Castro (19:14):

Three pages today. Hey Dave at Frank Curdo. 2, 9, 8, 1. Hey Dave, any revolvers in your hand gun collection? If you ask what are some of your favorites, just pick up a newer version. Six inch Col Python. Myself, I have a Colt Python too, that is from my father. He owned it when I was growing up, and yes, I have a number of revolvers in the collection. I like them a lot. I don’t compete with them. Actually. I carry a revolver. I have a fanny pack everywhere. Whenever I hike and it has a little revolver in it. That’s my protection God, because no matter how dirty or whatever it gets, it’s going to, it’s in a fire. I was carrying a little Glock. I actually rotate that gun out all the time. Every few months or a few months, I’ll carry a Glock. Then a few more months, I’ll carry this, the revolver, I’ll probably rotate it out to something else.

(19:51):

It’s a shame in the open. Okay, this is Dan Paylor, 1896. It’s a shame in the open that a video alone is not suffice. It for entry. Suffice for entry. It England, UK Cross CrossFit isn’t as big as we do big. I’m all fucked up. CrossFit isn’t as big, but we do have a lot of commercial gyms such as JD Gyms, which are now set up for CrossFit. They have a good range of equipment. Would be good to enter the open without having to attend a CrossFit gym. I don’t have a lot close to me during Covid Lockdowns, I was acceptable. Wait,

Sevan Matossian (20:15):

You have to go to a CrossFit gym?

Matthew Souza (20:17):

I don’t think so. I think you just have to do a video submission.

Sevan Matossian (20:21):

Okay.

Matthew Souza (20:22):

Okay. Here we go. And that’s always how it’s been, by the

Sevan Matossian (20:24):

Way. Okay, so this guy’s barking up the wrong tree. Let’s see what Dave says. I think

Dave Castro (20:27):

So. To enter via iPhone video I completely understand for quarterfinals, while you need a judge and probably should attend, an affiliate video should be enough to validate someone for the open. So one point 21 from the rule book, open workouts, validating video submissions. This is from our rule book. Athletes Alternative to Performing an open workout at an affiliate is to upload a video of their performance of the open workout to the CrossFit Games website through their CrossFit account Score Validation for any online video submission is a sole right of CrossFit. The videos may be reviewed and scored by the CrossFit Games internal review team. As part of this video review process, the athletes posted score may be accepted, modified, or invalidated csection one point 22 for more information on the possible outcomes of a video submission. So Dan Taylor, you can do what you’re saying. You think we can’t do you can’t you

Sevan Matossian (21:16):

Dumb. Fuck

Dave Castro (21:18):

The minute video at Cal TKD. Why have Kettlebells never been programmed in the open or the games? They’ve never been programmed in the open because they’re just not as commonly seen as dumbbells. They have been programmed in the games on a variety of events. I think they’re great for introducing power movements with not the technical difficulty of the Ole Lifts and really emphasize the hinge hip and cord extremity movement patterns. So does the dumbbell and dumbbells are a little easier to get than kettlebells, although these days, because of the popularity of CrossFit, things like kettlebells are becoming easier to get at using

Sevan Matossian (21:47):

Doc. Spartan also makes dumbbells.

Matthew Souza (21:49):

Doc Spartan makes

Sevan Matossian (21:50):

Dumbbells. Yeah. I don’t know if you can get ’em on their website, but they do make, oh, sorry, what’d I say? They make kettlebells. Sorry. They make kettlebell. They make kettlebells.

Matthew Souza (21:56):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (21:57):

Okay. The kettlebells that they make are using, employing people who are reformed of addicts docs. Parton’s a great company. Great, great, great company

Dave Castro (22:11):

On four and M five. TG four D. Sounds like 24 open is going to be lame. Noted at Michael Wright 9 1 0 1. Are you going to be doing more belts in the future? I’d like to pick up one. Yeah, so I took a big hide, cut a bunch of strips out of it and sold a number of belts from that. I plan on doing that once every five, six weeks. When I get a little break and schedule and have a weekend off, I plan on getting a nice hide and then making a number of belts and selling them. I have fun creating, and that’s one of my creative outlets is making things, making belts, and working with leather and sewing.

Sevan Matossian (22:43):

Those are going to be hard to get. If you want to. Dave Castro belt, those are going to be really hard to get

Matthew Souza (22:52):

Power.

Dave Castro (22:52):

Him. He had,

Matthew Souza (22:54):

I was just going to say, he should turn all of his stuff into almost like a gains box description and then have it linked to that and then make different levels of subscription and just not even sell some of these things. Just put it into boxes as a subscription.

Sevan Matossian (23:05):

Give me your credit card. $500 a quarter. You get some Dave Leather shit.

Matthew Souza (23:10):

Seems to be the trend these days.

Sevan Matossian (23:12):

Oh, the gains box guy reached out to me. I need to forward you the text.

Matthew Souza (23:17):

Oh, okay.

Sevan Matossian (23:18):

He wants to do something

Matthew Souza (23:19):

Cool.

Dave Castro (23:19):

Last week. Well, this week’s going to be a very busy week tomorrow. Tonight I’m flying up to Seattle. We have a trainer summit for our West Coast trainers that Joe Alexander, some of our team is leading. I’m excited to be going to that for the first half of tomorrow. Then I’m flying back tomorrow evening and then this week we have the open, so if you’re not signed up, get signed up. It’s going to be a good one. One thing on the open that I would like to

Sevan Matossian (23:40):

Say, so those are the two hats Dave’s wearing. You guys are hearing this. This is a fucking crazy schedule. He’s the director of the CrossFit Games, the largest participatory sport in the world, and he’s the director of the training team, which is the largest training team, international training team in the world. This guy’s no joke, and he’s making belts for you.

Matthew Souza (24:03):

Valuable player.

Sevan Matossian (24:04):

Did he make $200 a belt? I don’t know if he made $200. Oh, did he make the $200 belts? Yeah, he made 20 of them and he sold out in five minutes.

Matthew Souza (24:12):

Awesome. Go team Mustache Jeffrey.

Sevan Matossian (24:14):

He stole that from Josh Bridges

Matthew Souza (24:16):

Good on him. Looks better on him.

Sevan Matossian (24:18):

Yeah, there you go.

Dave Castro (24:22):

Okay. So the mushroom definitely, I captured that here. I was hiking through and I saw that and I was like, oh, that’s perfect. It ties the workout all it makes sense relative to what’s been programmed. So I was like, that’s a fucking clue. Pick a picture. Had it. And then I started thinking about the announcement, how I was going to do it, and I was like, I thought I’d love to have that mushroom. So I went back up to get the mushroom and it’s completely gone. So the mushroom no longer exists, and I was going to use it as a prop within the announcement, but now I can’t. So I’m kind of bummed by that. So big week last week we had an affiliate town hall. I actually showed the mushroom to the affiliates on the town hall prior to actually showing it to the world or posting it to the site on the affiliate town hall.

Sevan Matossian (25:00):

Were you on that affiliate town hall?

Matthew Souza (25:02):

No. I’ll watch it in retrospect. I realize in the affiliate toolkit you can watch ’em after the fact, but no, I

Sevan Matossian (25:09):

Wasn’t. Did you get the email?

Matthew Souza (25:10):

I did get the email, yep.

Sevan Matossian (25:12):

Oh, so you’re on the email list now? I’m

Matthew Souza (25:13):

Back on the email list. Yeah. Right when they told me the open announcement we’re at gyms all around mine.

Sevan Matossian (25:17):

Okay.

Dave Castro (25:19):

We talked a little bit about a medical society that we’re

(25:24):

Doing. Nicole teased it, and CrossFit Medical Society is an independently operated organization that licenses the CrossFit brand. The goal of the CrossFit Medical Society is to expand the network of medical professionals within the CrossFit community who are educated on and endorse CrossFit as a lifestyle intervention to reduce risk of chronic disease and improve health. So really excited about that. We also talked about, we had a few affiliates internationally talk about their experience and what they’re doing. So the town halls are, they’re really fun and it’s cool to speak to the affiliates and kind of read them in on what we’re doing and do that on a regular basis. This once a month cadence with which we’re going to stick to six

Sevan Matossian (26:01):

Months cadence. Hey, what did he say? The medical Society was basically just a networking of CrossFitting doctors.

Matthew Souza (26:07):

Yeah, I am curious as to what that is. I thought they already had that this whole time. The only society stuff I’ve heard of in the recent has all been coming out of broken science. I didn’t know CrossFit had one.

Sevan Matossian (26:19):

Well, it sounds like they’ve launched one too. Broken Science has that also.

Matthew Souza (26:22):

Yeah. Broken Science had released them a while ago. They have a medical society, an educational society, personal Health Society,

Sevan Matossian (26:29):

And that’s to bring people together who are in the same vocations.

Matthew Souza (26:32):

Yeah. Then I also think that they’ll be putting courses and material in there and educational stuff and all that type of stuff too. I don’t know what CrossFits is doing, but that’s what I think broken science is.

Sevan Matossian (26:41):

Hey, Patrick Clark, did you hear during the press conference, Dana White said, Hey, we got to make this fast guys. I got a plane to catch and I’m like, you ain’t got a plane to catch. That plane is waiting for you. That was pretty funny. Anyway, side note,

Dave Castro (26:58):

A couple points there I wanted to talk about. And the final thing I want to talk about as we go into the open, I had talked months ago about the Triple Crown and then totally forgot about it. Dave Eubanks, who helped me crank out the numbers. I asked him to update the numbers and basically, there’s nothing formal or official here, but we played with some Triple Crown numbers for this year’s Big three, call it Ours is the big one. The games, and then the Rogue Invitational and then Guap Palooza. So again, nothing formal, no athletes knew this was going on, or were told, Hey, compete in these events. But five females did all three events. And so Emily Rolf would’ve been fifth with 37 points. Low points wins. Danielle, Brandon would’ve been 20th. I’m sorry, fourth with 20 points.

Sevan Matossian (27:41):

Ariel sounds like my ranking of hottest chicks in CrossFit already. Emily Rolf, then Danielle, Brandon. See who number three is

Dave Castro (27:49):

When? Third with 15, tied with Emma Carey with 15. But Emma, Carrie, wait,

Sevan Matossian (27:52):

Who is third?

Dave Castro (27:53):

Danielle? Brandon would’ve been 20th. I’m sorry. Fourth with 20 points. Ariel Lowen third with 15, tied with Emma Carey with 15. But Emma Carey had a higher overall placement, so she gets the second.

Sevan Matossian (28:06):

That wasn’t cool. He said Emma Carey had a tire. That wasn’t cool at all. I got a tire too

Dave Castro (28:11):

Fourth with 20 points. Ariel Lowen third with 15, tied with Emma Carey with 15. But Emma Carey had a higher overall placement. So she gets the second. And Mag actually got, she would have won this Triple Crown concept and with the low score of 10 points. Oh, so

Sevan Matossian (28:28):

She was fourth. He was reading them backwards. Yeah. Oh, okay. My bad. Okay.

Dave Castro (28:33):

James fourth at Rogue and Second and at Water Palooza. So she would’ve been the Triple Crown winner if we had a formal triple Crown

Sevan Matossian (28:41):

Mag. Wow. Maga, that’s cool.

Dave Castro (28:47):

And let’s do this for the men. So for the men, there was only three athletes, three male athletes who did all three events. And so Roman would’ve had a third place with 14 points. Kowski was second with 10, and Valer would’ve been first with a low score of seven points. So he was second at the games first at Rogue and fourth at Waap Palooza. So that’s how you get seven, two plus one plus four is seven. So Valer would’ve won the Triple Crown if we had formalized this and actually run this as an actual thing. So pretty cool. I just like playing around with the numbers and looking at this stuff as a potential.

Sevan Matossian (29:23):

I don’t think he really does doing that. You don’t think so? Nah. He’s like, fuck that dude. He’s focused, he’s a programmer. He’s a logistics guy. He runs the event. He doesn’t want to get caught. Totally. Yeah. He didn’t want to get caught that. I just feel like he pushes that off to an assistant or something, and then they come back with the numbers and then

Matthew Souza (29:40):

He just seeing how it would’ve played out. That’s

Sevan Matossian (29:43):

What I

Matthew Souza (29:44):

Not like digging through the data himself.

Sevan Matossian (29:46):

Okay. Okay. I could see that. All right. I like that. I like that little twist on it

Dave Castro (29:50):

Thing we could do in the future or play with or format or expressions to what we currently are

Sevan Matossian (29:54):

Doing. Look, did you see the way he crumbled it up, that that’s how he really feels?

Matthew Souza (29:59):

So I guess.
