Sevan Matossian (00:00):

And bam, we’re live. I was going to stream in the audio of Gaza’s interview with Kiki Dixon. Looks like they got a little bit of an issue. We can’t show you the image. Alex, again, GZA finished in first then or Horvat, then Christine Cobra, then Emma Lawson and Tia in sixth place. Milligan seventh, MC eight. Gabriela ninth, Paige, za, and 10th, Shelby Neil. Those times range from five 19 to the winter. Alex end 7 34 for Shelby. Neil, these are the unofficial results, whatever that means. I don’t see the results for 11th through 20 yet. No surprise to see anyone at the top here. And actually it’s quite nice because we actually have a competition ahead of us. I want to show you guys something at home. For those of you maybe who didn’t get a good look,

Caleb Beaver (01:06):

Feel that would be a

Sevan Matossian (01:07):

Lot. That image right there. Oops, sorry.

Caleb Beaver (01:10):

Back to the strong

Sevan Matossian (01:10):

End. I showed you how thick that bar is as a bar. Friday

Caleb Beaver (01:14):

At Dell Diamond Stadium and round

Sevan Matossian (01:16):

And there is your winner. No, not your winner. That’s your winner of heat one actually, right? Christine Coen. Brander.

Caleb Beaver (01:21):

Yes sir,

Sevan Matossian (01:23):

But not the winner of the entire event. Taylor, welcome back Caleb. Thank you. You made it back to your seat quickly. Caleb, do you leave your computer set up while you go watch the event?

Caleb Beaver (01:38):

Yeah, we have a whole room for media people, so I just leave my computer at the desk and come on back to it

Sevan Matossian (01:43):

So it’s safe enough.

Caleb Beaver (01:44):

Yeah, pretty much.

Sevan Matossian (01:46):

Alright, cool. Alright. From California, everything’s being stolen. Guys. Let’s do one quick round of celebration. Taylor. Alex Kaan, real deal. Fourth fittest woman on earth.

Taylor Self (02:00):

Yeah, that was crazy. The squats. I was very shocked to see her squat the bar so fast. I thought

Caleb Beaver (02:06):

You would struggle more

Taylor Self (02:07):

With the squats.

Sevan Matossian (02:08):

The event is called Seat at the Bar, second Event for the 2023 Rogue Invitational. The matchup that everyone wants to see is Laura Horvat, Tia Tomi. We’ll get to that JR. Howell Gaan real deal, fourth fittest woman in the world, strutting her shit.

Taylor Self (02:24):

Yeah, it’s pretty cool. I was saying that was one I was really wanting to watch after Texas Heavy to see if she would bounce back knowing that she’s a freak when it comes to upper body pushing and pulling. So yeah, I mean it was really cool to see her take that event win and I think the next one’s probably going to be good for her. Also, I know traditionally going overhead in some capacities tends to give her trouble. I don’t think that dumbbells going to give her any trouble at all in that workout work out and I mean I look for her to have a big day from here on

Chase Ingraham (02:59):

Out too.

Sevan Matossian (03:01):

Chase, how many games has Gaza’s a new athlete, right?

Chase Ingraham (03:04):

Two

Sevan Matossian (03:05):

Games under her belt? Yeah. Still probably some jitters. Still with a lot of room for growth, almost. Not quite an accidental. I accidentally stumbled into CrossFit story. Are you impressed by her here?

Chase Ingraham (03:21):

Very. I mean Gaza, I think because of what’s been programmed as far as the heavy lifts at either semi-finals or games usually sent around things that she’s weak at, so we know she has a great bench press, but it’s nice to see her put together a back squat. So I see bench back squat. Okay, I see 1, 2, 3. What’s that deadlift looking like if we’re just getting pure strength? It looks good. Chase’s. Alright.

John Young (03:45):

400.

Sevan Matossian (03:49):

You think Gaza is the 400 pound back squat? Is that what you’re saying? Deadlift.

Chase Ingraham (03:51):

Deadlift. Deadlift.

Sevan Matossian (03:52):

Deadlift, okay.

John Young (03:53):

Static strength. Alex Gaza is pretty filthy. It’s just a, I mean clean and jerk. She’s pretty good. It’s just the snacks that she’s bad at

Sevan Matossian (04:02):

From the man who makes people strong From John Young Barbell. Tell me about her movement. Any complaints in her squatting? Any complaints in her bar Mus?

John Young (04:15):

No, I didn’t think she would be better than everybody at the log. I thought her squats would be fine, but I thought Laura Horvat squats would be just as fast. I thought Emma Lawson squats would be just as fast and they, I mean Lauras probably were just as fast, but she beat everybody on the log. Her log was better than everybody too and she didn’t just win by a little bit. She won pretty handedly. Could have walked to the finish line.

Sevan Matossian (04:42):

For those of you who are wondering about the safety and efficacy of CrossFit, we have T Tui out there. Everyone knows she had a baby five and a half, six months ago. She’s out there competing at the highest level and I’m looking at the Legends comp right now on the screen and Annie looks like she’s still competing in it and I’m sure she’ll modulate it to the intensity that’s appropriate for her, but she’s still competing and she just announced she’s pregnant. Erin, I’m curious, will Laurent be a similar match to the one Annie?

Chase Ingraham (05:11):

Th there’s two Annies out there right now.

Sevan Matossian (05:14):

Oh, right, right. Annie Sakamoto. Yeah. And Annie Thor’s daughter. Erin, I’m curious, will Laura and Tia be a similar match to Annie Thor’s daughter and Tia at Rogue? What do you mean a similar match? Anyone want to take a stab at this? I’m not sure I understand the question.

Chase Ingraham (05:28):

Oh, so when Annie came back from two years ago? Yeah. Was this before? This was after she was pregnant. She came to Rogue, gave Tia a run for her money pretty much the whole weekend long and then I think maybe lost it on the last event

John Young (05:45):

She was in first place going into the last day and then Tia beat her in both events the last day,

Chase Ingraham (05:53):

Which is also proving why you don’t do the dual as the last event too is how that all shook out.

Sevan Matossian (05:59):

Why you don’t explain that to me?

Chase Ingraham (06:01):

No, you could have something where the drama just completely dies. Like Annie I think got knocked out in the first round.

John Young (06:10):

He was one of the ones. Then we were like, why are we

Chase Ingraham (06:11):

Watching? We had to sit there for another hour and a half knowing who already won.

Sevan Matossian (06:16):

So there could be a huge payoff, but it

Chase Ingraham (06:18):

Could be a huge payoff, but the potential of it is not the same. It’s not a 50 50 shot like

Sevan Matossian (06:27):

Mosquito. Hey, this Legends event is actually, I’m feel a little more nostalgic than I thought I would. This is actually crazy seeing all these people out there at once. By the way, Kent Sykes, thank you. Go ahead John.

John Young (06:41):

So I ran into Rich up here in the suites room. Paige Powers suite is

Sevan Matossian (06:50):

Oh

Chase Ingraham (06:51):

Wow. No

Sevan Matossian (06:53):

Shit. John dropping the crazy bombs. Thank you for muting him. That would’ve been completely inappropriate if that would’ve gotten out. John, you want to take another shot at it? God, your connections. Hey, you need a new computer, dude,

John Young (07:05):

John, I’m trying to mute so you guys can’t hear the background music. This one’s better than before. Okay, we didn’t hear anything you said.

Sevan Matossian (07:19):

No, you’re not going to tell us what Rich said. All

John Young (07:20):

Right, can you hear me now?

Chase Ingraham (07:21):

Yes.

John Young (07:22):

He was very, very nice, very nice.

Sevan Matossian (07:25):

Oh good. Yeah. What did he

John Young (07:26):

Say? He shut the door. He just said, how are you guys doing? He was just very cordial, very nice guy.

Chase Ingraham (07:34):

What did he say about Page Powers? We missed what you

John Young (07:37):

Said. Oh, Paige Powers Suite is right next to mine and I’m pretty sure he was just here up here for her. Her whole family’s up here. The Page Powers

Chase Ingraham (07:47):

Suite. Oh, glad we spent three minutes on that.

John Young (07:50):

Yeah, no, it wasn’t anything crazy. I don’t dunno why, but he was on the screen. I was just in my mind,

Sevan Matossian (07:57):

Rogue had two incredible broadcasts going on. Josh Bridges was completely, before we talk about the athletes nod to him, what’s that called? The Iron Game tailgate. Josh Bridges is on another level. It was him and Maderis and Fraser and Josh was just gold. Did anyone have any issues with Josh?

John Young (08:18):

No.

Chase Ingraham (08:18):

I loved his commentary. He was shooting the shit and I am sitting there watching with my wife and Lizzie’s like, why

John Young (08:24):

Are we watching

Chase Ingraham (08:25):

This stream? I have no idea what’s going on. Because they weren’t calling. It wasn’t as much of a play-by-play, but I liked that stream way better

Sevan Matossian (08:33):

Personally. Alright. Yeah, that was pretty good and I think Sean and Adrian did a pretty good job too. I listened to that at least.

Chase Ingraham (08:44):

Is it Adrian Conway? It doesn’t sound like Kim. Yeah. Yeah, it’s him.

Sevan Matossian (08:50):

The men started off this event, man, that was kind of brutal for Tudor, huh? Just completely shit. The bed almost didn’t look like he belonged out there with those boys.

Chase Ingraham (09:03):

He’s been competing weird lately. He just seems a bit overrated or maybe, I don’t know.

Sevan Matossian (09:10):

He made it there.

John Young (09:11):

I

Sevan Matossian (09:13):

Go ahead. Go ahead John.

John Young (09:16):

I think he is very, very strong and he can make these competitions, but I think he’s the least fit person when he gets to the competitions. He’s just very strong and people think he’s fitter because of how strong he’s

Sevan Matossian (09:32):

Well he made it there. Do you think that the qualifier wasn’t a good qualifier to get people to rogue? I think it

Chase Ingraham (09:40):

Got a very specific type of people to Rogue.

Sevan Matossian (09:43):

Okay. And on the other end, did Tutor Mag take last? Do we know? It’s pretty bad, right? And then, oh, I could probably pull up the leaderboard too. Sorry. I know you’re on unlimited abilities.

John Young (10:00):

Hopper got last. Wow. Hey, I mean he wasn’t good at the log muscle last year. I didn’t expect him to be good at year

Chase Ingraham (10:11):

This year. Wow. She wees.

John Young (10:16):

You got to think though. I got it.

Sevan Matossian (10:18):

Okay, thank you.

John Young (10:20):

The squat workout last year back attack with the 4 0 5, it was a hard workout for him. He wasn’t great at it and then the log muscle up was also a bad workout for him. He probably couldn’t ask for a worse combination of events. I think after this event he will be fine. He’s just not going to be, this event wasn’t good for him.

Sevan Matossian (10:41):

Ricky Mack took first place. Then Pat Vellner second Bailey Martin third Good on Bailey Martin. That’s huge for him, especially with this field of athletes. Chandler Smith, fourth, Victor, Hoffer, fifth, Noah, Olsson, sixth Bjo. Then Carl Goodman’s in seventh Adler in eighth. Any surprise down here, Adler was moving incredible and we had the benefit of seeing Jeffrey Adler squat right next to Chandler Smith and it’s like two separate creatures. Adler moved faster and was cleaner and yet he’s four places below Chandler Smith.

Chase Ingraham (11:15):

Can we scroll up real quick to the top time,

John Young (11:18):

What’s crazy is there’s a three-way tie for first right now between Ricky Adler and Chandler.

Chase Ingraham (11:25):

What’s crazy is I said six minutes yesterday,

John Young (11:29):

Six oh in the workout.

Sevan Matossian (11:31):

I just see why do they have Chandler Smith in third place? Oh, they just have the leaderboard wrong in John’s

John Young (11:38):

Place. No, because they both got a first place and the tie would go to the highest win and they both have a first, they both have an eighth, so they are tied and Chandler’s tied in points but not in places.

Chase Ingraham (11:51):

That’s crazy.

Sevan Matossian (11:55):

Yeah, we’re going to have this men’s competition is going to be truly incredible. Anyone surprised at Ricky Mack winning this?

Chase Ingraham (12:05):

I’m a little surprised. I

John Young (12:06):

Was surprised he moved to squat way better than he did last year.

Chase Ingraham (12:10):

Yeah,

Sevan Matossian (12:12):

He said that. He said that in his post interview by the way, or when he was talking to Josh, Matt and Maderis, he did say, Hey, I’ve been working on my back squat. I was little. I didn’t like the way I performed here last year.

Chase Ingraham (12:23):

It’s not just him winning though, sorry Taylor. It’s not just him winning because that time is not reflective of how good he did in this event because he was 20

John Young (12:31):

Seconds faster.

Chase Ingraham (12:32):

Right, so he almost beat second place by almost a minute, at least 45 to 50 seconds in a six minute event that Taylor did call and I didn’t think it would. He freaking crushed everybody in this. It wasn’t even close.

Sevan Matossian (12:47):

So good statement for him. Gymnastics and my ass is big and strong. Patrick Vellner, we expected good things from him, traditional Pat Vellner kind of shit. The bed on workout one of a competition and then come back strong and hard. His head coach Michelle Aandra said that this today was going to be good for him. Bailey Martin, the kid who kind of surprised himself, who the fuck is Bailey Martin at the CrossFit games last year now made us question after workout one, do you belong? Can we say, is this workout enough for us to be like, okay, he’s legit third place in a heat of savages.

Chase Ingraham (13:26):

No,

John Young (13:27):

We need to see the whole competition to say he’s legit. I think Victor Hoffer was the most surprising performance and I think it might’ve been Was it Taylor? Was it you?

Chase Ingraham (13:36):

Yeah. I thought he’d be pretty good in it.

John Young (13:39):

You’re on a roll with this event. I thought the squat would be so heavy for him and it wasn’t. I thought Victor did amazing.

Chase Ingraham (13:46):

I was off on Shelby. Neil, I will say I think

John Young (13:49):

Ricky’s we’re off on Shelby Neil. Yeah,

Chase Ingraham (13:53):

I won’t say poor, but Ricky’s poor relative to what we expect out of him. Placement in the run yesterday makes sense now after this event and hearing him talking about working on squatting a lot, I dunno, any thoughts on that? Do

John Young (14:08):

You think it takes that much away from an elite runner though? It takes that much.

Chase Ingraham (14:13):

They’re so squatting. 3 75, 15 times is so different from being the best at a five K in the field.

John Young (14:23):

Yeah, I know. I get it. I just don’t know if you’re already the top. It takes away that much

Chase Ingraham (14:29):

I think if you’ve been working on squatting that much. I don’t know. I mean I guess let’s maybe table it until we hear from ler him on how much you’ve been working on squatting.

John Young (14:40):

Do you think vice versa if you worked on running a lot? A lot it takes away from your squat asking for no reason.

Chase Ingraham (14:49):

Oh shit, asking for no reason other than yourself. Definitely

Caleb Beaver (14:54):

It’s we can move on. That was more of a joke. It depends

Chase Ingraham (14:57):

On

Caleb Beaver (14:57):

How hard you swing

Chase Ingraham (14:58):

The pendulum.

Caleb Beaver (14:59):

I

Chase Ingraham (15:00):

Think if you

Caleb Beaver (15:01):

Are

Chase Ingraham (15:01):

Swinging the pendulum like

Caleb Beaver (15:02):

This

Chase Ingraham (15:03):

Then things are going to increase slower, but things will increase

Caleb Beaver (15:08):

Together. Whereas if

Chase Ingraham (15:09):

You’re swinging it like that, your run might increase a whole lot faster. Your strength relatively might

Caleb Beaver (15:14):

Increase

Chase Ingraham (15:15):

A whole

Caleb Beaver (15:15):

Lot faster,

Chase Ingraham (15:16):

But you’ll lose another area quicker. I thought there was actually a, I don’t even know if this was hinshaw actually. I think it might’ve been Shaw’s talking about just the impact from running alone actually doesn’t take away from your root squat strength. If you are balanced in your training, if anything it actually helps it. It’s just like one of those weird strengthening stability things that actually doesn’t hinder What’s he getting that info off of? Squatting?

Caleb Beaver (15:42):

Is he getting that info off of people who squat 500 pounds or off of runners?

Speaker 6 (15:47):

Well

Chase Ingraham (15:47):

Probably have CrossFitters who run, but yes.

Sevan Matossian (15:53):

Hey, is there a threat of rain at the event? Why are the monitors on the bikes covered? Caleb,

Speaker 6 (16:00):

I went to the forecast

Caleb Beaver (16:00):

This morning. I didn’t see any rain until probably 3 34, so there might be something incoming. I know a lot of all the broadcast cameras are covered in those rain plastic basically, so I don’t know. It’s

Sevan Matossian (16:15):

Possible

Caleb Beaver (16:15):

But it wouldn’t last for very long if it did.

Sevan Matossian (16:18):

Thank you. Hey Jr, maybe I’m behind my time. This is so three or four years ago and I know it’s only two events in, but listen to this Ricky Gerard, Jeffrey Adler, first and an eighth, Ricky Mack an eighth and a first Chandler Smith, a fifth and a fourth Roman Koff, a third and a 10th. Pat Vellner, a 13th and a second Jelly, a Hosty a second and a 14th. The only guy that’s putting up winning numbers here is Chandler Smith. This is what we want to see. We want to see 4, 5, 4, 5, 4, 5, 3, 2, 2, 1. These other guys, this isn’t traditionally championship numbers.

Chase Ingraham (17:05):

Typically you would look for someone that’s that consistent like top five on everything. This is not a typical competition. The field is so deep that even people that will win or podium will most likely have something outside the top 10. I think last year Vellner was he ended up in third or second. Either way he had a 17th and then I think a 10th and an 11th. So I mean that just shows you right there. If you’re someone who can hit home runs, some of these guys are that can win events. No, someone like Roman could easily still be on the podium

Speaker 6 (17:41):

But

Sevan Matossian (17:42):

Continued. Another thing, let’s stick with Chandler Smith for a second. Another thing I feel like we haven’t seen too consistent good showings from him back to back. Chandler’s one of those guys like okay, he got on the podium. Okay, he’s out of the top 10. Okay, he’s back in the top five. Okay, he’s out of the top 10 and now we’re seeing good showing at the games. How do he do at the games? Top 10, right? Yeah, and then he’s off to a good start with two pretty wildly three domains covered as we were talking about earlier, the running, the gymnastics and strength piece.

Taylor Self (18:14):

Sure. Yeah, because we know he’s at the top of the field, top of the world when it comes to brute strength and that event is still to come, so he typically excels here. I think that’s why a lot of people pick him as a top five shoe in maybe even higher, so I’m not surprised at all that he’s performing like this

Sevan Matossian (18:33):

Thoughts on Chandler Smith, Mr. Young is too early to tell just two events or we got a good spread and like man, he’s off to the races. He’s going to be competing for

Taylor Self (18:40):

First all week

Sevan Matossian (18:41):

Weekend.

John Young (18:42):

I don’t know about first, but I definitely think he’ll be competing a podium all weekend. This competition is awesome for him. He got second last year at Rogue,

Taylor Self (18:54):

Right?

John Young (18:55):

I think second, first is hard to call because I think there will be an event where all the other guys are just better at than him and he’ll have a 12th. That’s a costly 12th. Not in the beginning of the competition. 12th you’re in the running and now you’re 12th. You see what I’m saying or is that confusing?

Sevan Matossian (19:15):

I see what you’re saying.

John Young (19:17):

That would take him out of the running for first, but I think he’s in the running for a podium all week long. Yeah, I agree with you that we haven’t seen two competitions back to back, but he usually does bad at the games and amazing at Rope and he did good at the games last year and I don’t see how he’s not top five.

Sevan Matossian (19:42):

I don’t remember who made the comment, but someone made the comment that Ricky just looks different. Ricky does look like an absolute fucking standout amongst this group. He physically and superficially looks like a monster. Have you guys noticed that also?

Taylor Self (20:00):

Well, when I saw him about Waap Palooza, I was shocked how dense he is, just how thick he is. Yeah, he’s one of the few athletes being around in person that I’ve just been like, oh, I did not know you were built like that.

Sevan Matossian (20:15):

Yeah, he looks like a brick shit house out there in his interview. I think Josh or Matt or someone, Justin asked about his shoulder and I can’t tell if he’s just saying this, this is the professional athlete in him, the line in him, but he said, Hey dude, I’m a hundred percent, I’m good to go. It’s a fucking miracle. I feel fucking great. Did you guys hear that? I’m paraphrasing. Okay, I didn’t hear that interview. Okay, he’s claiming he’s healed. He’s ready to go and I don’t see any signs showing otherwise.

Taylor Self (20:54):

This last one that those bar muscle ups would test that.

Sevan Matossian (20:58):

Yeah, if there was any wonkiness in there or something that was causing him to cringe, all JTA took six. We’ll work our way down the, oh, Travis Mayer. A ninth and a ninth and that’s very Travis Mayer too, right?

John Young (21:14):

Yeah, that sounds very Travis Mayer.

Sevan Matossian (21:16):

Yeah, he’s got a ninth and a ninth.

Taylor Self (21:20):

He’ll pull heavy too. A lot of people are wondering who will do well at whatever the deadlift is. Travis has a good pull, so I mean he’s going to do fine there. He’s competed here two times previously, I think sixth both times or seventh maybe John.

John Young (21:35):

I think Hopper was seventh both times, so maybe he’s sixth. I’ll look I’ll for it.

Sevan Matossian (21:42):

What’s interesting here, we’ll look at Adler now and we’ll look at Tia Tomi also, but there has been this theme that hey, the best movers usually are also the best winners. They get the best range of motion. The judges don’t have to second guess them. It is interesting that Jeff moved so well in that last event and at the running, but he got an eighth and Tia did not move so well in that last event. Watching those knees collapse with every,

Taylor Self (22:10):

She is always squatted with a valgus like that. Always, always, what’s it

Sevan Matossian (22:14):

Called, a valgus?

John Young (22:16):

It’s where your knees cave whenever it gets heavy.

Taylor Self (22:18):

She is always squatted that way and I’ve heard a lot of professional weightlifters, whatever say that in some circles that’s actually taught that valgus on the way up almost is something that some people want to see, which is really interesting because she’s been basically professional weightlifter before

John Young (22:39):

Contracting

Taylor Self (22:40):

The

John Young (22:41):

Adductors

Taylor Self (22:41):

So forcefully that they pull the knees in

John Young (22:45):

As long as you don’t do it with 1 35. She does it with lightweight too. No, not like that. Not like that, but she still has a degree of valgus, but she has a degree of something you would never teach at a level one. You would get

Sevan Matossian (22:59):

Annie has it too. Annie TH’s daughter has it too.

John Young (23:02):

Donny, I have that out of my anus if I squatted like that. My He

Sevan Matossian (23:06):

Did pull your anus out of your butt. He has it backwards, but he did. Someone yesterday told me that these shows are really just boys shows and I want to let you know that. I really appreciate that. Thank you. I like those. Those are cool. dLAN Pepper 16th and 16th. What the fuck is going on? I have this guy winning the CrossFit games in a couple of years. He’s a man child. Former CrossFit games teen champion twice. Why a 16th and a 16th here at the Rogue? He must have not tapered, right? This is just a stop for him. He don’t really give a shit. Tell me something.

John Young (23:47):

I think these will be his worst two events of the whole competition.

Sevan Matossian (23:50):

Oh good. I like that. I like that Chase.

Chase Ingraham (23:56):

I see the distance running and more likely the fat bar being an issue in this field. It’s easy to get 16th with these guys, but these also are very specific like distance running with rucks that is very niche fat, bar muscle-ups, also a very niche skill and then heavy back squats for reps, which I don’t really think was his problem. Could be a niche skill more for the women that it’s for the men. After this we’re getting a lot of variance, a lot of classic CrossFit going forward, so yeah, with John it’s like what’s coming up? We’ll see how he handles the next event. If it’s another thing like this, then yeah, then he is

John Young (24:35):

Not right. I could see top five in the next event.

Chase Ingraham (24:38):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (24:39):

Okay. Jr, before we move on to the women, the final question, I want you to channel your inter kowski. He takes a fourth and a 15th. Is Brent saying, okay, that’s good. I was hoping to get between 10 and 15th on it and I did it. Did he know? Did Kowski know going into this that there would be tough for him? This is not a strength.

Chase Ingraham (25:06):

I think Brent, above all athletes understands the difference in the performance versus the result and he’s talked about that before. If he executed the way he wanted to execute, he doesn’t care. He’s happy with it because he didn’t make any mistakes and it’s not comparatively to the field.

Sevan Matossian (25:26):

Okay, fair enough. Let’s move over to the women. The biggest story coming out of the women is that Danielle, Brandon left the field with a smile on her face with a bottom 10 finish.

Chase Ingraham (25:44):

That’s

John Young (25:44):

The story. That’s the story of the day. Can we look at the leaderboard? Look at the leaderboard.

Sevan Matossian (25:48):

This

John Young (25:48):

Is what I’m talking about.

Sevan Matossian (25:50):

It’s be tough. I thought she might leave just

Chase Ingraham (25:54):

Furious

Sevan Matossian (25:58):

And she didn’t. Oh, switch divisions to women. Here we go. Thank you Danielle. Brandon, for those of you who don’t know is one of my favorites and she took, what did she take on that 17th? She walked off the field, chumming it up with Emily Rolf. Why did Danielle Brandon take 17th? It is just back squatting, just shitty for her. I thought last year we had kind of like, oh, her back hurt. That’s why she didn’t do it. Is she just not a good back squatter?

John Young (26:28):

No. Brute strength has always been an issue for her, ironically.

Sevan Matossian (26:36):

Okay, fair enough. Not brute strength the training camp, but brute strength. Just in terms the generic.

John Young (26:41):

Yeah, just in general. She has a lot of power, but just brute strength. Static strength. She’s not, that’s

Chase Ingraham (26:47):

What is static strength. I’m so confused

John Young (26:49):

By that. Dead lifts squat, bench press. That’s

Chase Ingraham (26:51):

Still dynamic movement though.

John Young (26:54):

In strong man. They call that static strength.

Chase Ingraham (26:56):

Do they? I’m serious.

John Young (26:58):

Yes, so deadlifts bench press squat are static lifts in any strong man power lifting world. They refer to it as static lifts.

Sevan Matossian (27:10):

Let’s go through and check out some of the comments about Danielle, Brandon, Corey Leonard. Danielle. Brandon got smashed and not by her coach this time Sean Leman. Matt keeps blowing her back out. Barry Cocker, Danielle branding still can’t squat heavy. Daniel Elise car rid. She’s not the strongest. Erin, and let’s leave on a good note. She did amazing.

Chase Ingraham (27:38):

Yes, queen. Amazing.

Sevan Matossian (27:40):

Huge. That doesn’t

John Young (27:40):

Mean she’s not good at Olympic lifting. She’s good at Olympic lifting.

Chase Ingraham (27:44):

She’s not though. Her snatch isn’t that great. Her cleaning drip’s not that great. I have one 90.

Sevan Matossian (27:47):

Listen.

Chase Ingraham (27:48):

Yeah. Compared to the field, everybody at the game, I mean they’re snatching over 200 A

John Young (27:54):

The good girls. I’m just saying in middle of the pack. Middle of the pack is what I’m saying.

Chase Ingraham (27:58):

Right, and the big three, I’ll call them. I can’t get behind static.

John Young (28:05):

You can’t do it.

Chase Ingraham (28:07):

The big three, the squat, deadlift, strict breasts or bench, whatever. You’re right, they blow, but I’ve always, she thinks that the yolk too. I’ve always been under the impression that she’s just a really bad squatter and if you watch squat mechanics, hers is not great either under a heavy bar. It’s like her feet

John Young (28:24):

Are super

Chase Ingraham (28:24):

Wide. Tia’s got the valgus, but she has such a narrow squat. It’s like, okay, her feet are so close. My wife

Sevan Matossian (28:32):

Has a valgus too, by the way that

Chase Ingraham (28:34):

I’m, I’m not concerned about her blowing a ligament out, but Danielle squats so wide and has the valgus, it hurts me to watch.

Sevan Matossian (28:44):

Speaking of Valgas, I’d want to add, go back to the men just for a quick second. They did say, because I’m a baller and I did purchase the tailgate party from Rogue. I did hear them talk. The down pepper has his PR marked at 4 25 for a back squat. Now they didn’t say that they were certain of that.

John Young (29:01):

He could squat more than that.

Chase Ingraham (29:02):

That’s not, yeah, no shot.

Sevan Matossian (29:05):

Okay. This is completely uncalled for. This is bullshit. Jr what do you think about this? I agree with Taylor and Tutor is overrated. Just like Danielle, Brandon on the female side. Super overrated. Cannot Danielle? Brandon is a world-class. CrossFitter Tudor. Magda is not Tudor. Magda is just

John Young (29:23):

Number. They’re not on the same level.

Sevan Matossian (29:24):

Okay, good.

Taylor Self (29:25):

Actually,

Sevan Matossian (29:26):

Okay, go ahead, Jr.

Taylor Self (29:27):

Yeah, I mean

Sevan Matossian (29:28):

Definitely agree

Taylor Self (29:29):

With you. Danielle is pretty

Chase Ingraham (29:30):

Established. What I was going to say, Danielle and her strength numbers are, I remember you playing this on the show once. I’m pretty sure she’s pushed jerk like 2 35 for three. When it comes to just

Taylor Self (29:42):

Going overhead in that capacity, Danielle, Brandon is incredible. So going into this next event, if that dumbbell requires more stability, which it probably does, it’s dumbbell, it’s a little bit bigger, it’s going to require a little bit more a positional stability.
