Official Rogue Invitational Event 5 & 6 pre/post show

Sevan Matossian (00:07):

Bam. We’re live. Jason Opper wins the event. Brent Falkowski. Pat Vellner. Travis Mayer, yellow host, dLAN Pepper. Ricky Gerard, tutor Mag Bjo. Vin Carl Goodmanson and Bailey Martin. That’s the top 10 for the men. John Young. Hi from JY Barbell. Oh, I can’t hear. John,

Taylor Self (00:35):

You’re muted.

Sevan Matossian (00:36):

Cross Streett Crash Jr. Howell Taylor self. Caleb, what’s up from live from the event? Susa. Good to see you.

Taylor Self (00:43):

What’s up everybody?

Sevan Matossian (00:44):

What’s up dude?

Taylor Self (00:46):

Stevon, what do you wear from bottom down when you do a podcast?

Sevan Matossian (00:50):

Well, it’s funny. I’m so glad I put on nice pants. I was working out in my old man Long Johns and watching this event I’m like, you know what? I should at least dress up a little bit. So I put on all new clean clothes. You’re just in your undies.

JR Howell (01:05):

Taylor Self (01:05):

I go undies. I better go in undies today.

Sevan Matossian (01:07):

Professional. And you leave the closet. Do you even have a door on that closet?

Taylor Self (01:10):

It’s a fucking standing desk, bro. Look,

JR Howell (01:12):

Sevan Matossian (01:15):

Inside a closet.

Taylor Self (01:16):

Alright dude, whatever. I live in the fucking hood.

Sevan Matossian (01:20):

JR Howell. We just watched strong. No, not strong man. Individual event number five. That puts us directly at the midpoint for the 2023 Rogue Invitational, the dual originally, was there a rope in that workout? A rope climb, yes. So it’s a little bit of a sprint. It’s up and over some logs and well, it’s up and over. Some logs, a little bit of a sprint and then lift three heavy bags and then there was going to be a rope in it. How much do you think not having the rope in the event changed the outcome of the winners?

JR Howell (02:00):

We’ll start with women first.

Sevan Matossian (02:03):

We had Danny Spiegel won it for the women. Would she have still won it you think?

JR Howell (02:06):

Is she a good rope climber? I just have to say before I even addressed the rope climb question.

Sevan Matossian (02:12):

JR Howell (02:13):

Above all with the males and females, the most impressive thing that I saw the whole time was how athletic Danny moved on the logs. It was incredible. How

Sevan Matossian (02:23):

Did you see anyone else even use her technique? She was rolling over like water and everyone else was jumping over

Taylor Self (02:28):

Time, had electric slide on the second one that nobody could replicate.

JR Howell (02:32):

It just was really impressive to watch just how fluidly she got over no mistakes made and then when everyone gets the bag, it just kind of becomes a who can handle the bag the fastest unless there was a slip up. Your question about the rope climb though, what would’ve been really interesting to see is if there were any females that chose to do it legless, because legless is faster. If you can do it fast,

Sevan Matossian (02:56):

It’s faster.

JR Howell (02:57):

I think all the men would’ve chosen to do it so that they could just get to the top and touch come down faster. So I would’ve been interested to see how many women were able to incorporate that strategy just to get down and get to the bags quicker. And for the men, it would’ve just been interesting to see the descent efficiency because on something like that, when there’s only one, it’s not as much the speed up sometimes as it can be the speed down. So I think it would just been another variable. It would’ve been another opportunity to mess up. It would’ve been another opportunity to jump from far away after the last log and almost be swinging on the rope versus taking the half second to make sure you’re jumping from directly under. There’s just a lot more variables that come in with a workout that’s sub 23 seconds. Even adding three or four seconds to it really changes it.

Sevan Matossian (03:47):

So let me just be clear. Going back to Danny Spiegel’s athleticism strong start. I saw how she went over the log. I saw when she picked the bag up, she didn’t make extra movements. She literally picked the bag up and she didn’t do the adjustments that a lot of other people do When they pick up a big bag, they make a second movement or a third movement to get it into position to lift. Hers was more of a pick and set in and then I started going over the log, which was like a waterfall, but what’s this slide you’re talking about? You mean when you saw her sliding underneath one of the logs?

Taylor Self (04:18):

Watch how far ahead of everyone. She starts on her starting mat too, or at least maybe that was just against Laura. Look at lane four. See lane four is off to the side of their starting mat.

Sevan Matossian (04:27):

Oh, right, okay, so not that slide you’re talking about. Yeah.

Taylor Self (04:33):

Can you replay? Yeah, replay that one. It’s

JR Howell (04:34):

The smoothness of this first log for sure.

Sevan Matossian (04:36):

Because right there she’s already GAed.

JR Howell (04:39):

If you count the steps after the first log, rewind that it’s like left right dive. It is so fast.

Taylor Self (04:44):

Yeah. Does she turn? Does she turn? Does she go one leg over turn her body? She does a 180. Yep, 180

JR Howell (04:52):

And then interesting

Sevan Matossian (04:54):

Slides right underneath. Now go

Taylor Self (04:55):

To the third log. It’s not the hop log. It’s not the hop log that she goes one leg over. You can’t do that as a guy. No, I know,

Sevan Matossian (05:04):

But because you’re talking ball.

Taylor Self (05:05):

Yeah, you’re going to fuck your nuts up. I would’ve crushed that event. I don’t have any. I tuck

JR Howell (05:09):

Taylor Self (05:13):

Share it.

Sevan Matossian (05:16):

So Jr where do you think she’s, she’s just making up a little bit of time everywhere. She’s proficient at everything and then she doesn’t even have transitions. It’s just all one fluid movement is what you’re saying.

JR Howell (05:26):

Well, one thing about the side view, camera angle that they would show a lot during the sprint was if someone was truly trying to sprint to their bag, they would close a little bit of a gap left after the logs. She’s not slow at all, so she’s going through the logs the most efficiently. She’s running hard to the bags and then when she gets the bag, if she’s getting there even with someone or a little bit ahead of everyone else, there’s no one that’s going to catch her.

Sevan Matossian (05:52):

One of the comments in our group chat was that this was all big girls except for Danielle. Brandon, was this a bigger, stronger athlete event?

JR Howell (06:03):

I mean, I think if you don’t take height into consideration because a rope climb, getting up over something and loading something to something that’s a certain height is more beneficial to a longer athlete. Even if you take height out of it, removing one gymnastics element typically is going to make it easier for bigger, stronger athletes.

Sevan Matossian (06:26):

Let me get a quick little divergence here and we’re going to come back and keep talking about the girls. Let me just show you this too. This just popped up the overall standings for the men. Pat Ner currently leads with 400 Falkowski 360 and second Borman. Carl Goodmanson 3 45 Adler three 40, no Olsson three 20. Now look what’s happened there. We keep talking about these top five in this tier and now we have a Roman who’s been pushed out of it who I don’t think anyone think would be. And we have Travis Mayer who’s come down from 10th and shown that consistency pays off as time goes on.

Taylor Self (07:05):

Is Roman from

JR Howell (07:05):

Sevan Matossian (07:07):

Yeah. You didn’t know that

JR Howell (07:09):

There’s going to be a lot of action later on tonight. If you look at three and five specifically, traditionally you don’t think of them as strength athletes, especially with power lifts. So you’re going to see still a ton of shifting tonight after the deadlift.

Sevan Matossian (07:24):

We don’t think of Adler. Doesn’t Adler have a tremendous deadlift?

JR Howell (07:28):

He does. I said three and five. So B, K, G and Noah. Noah,

Sevan Matossian (07:31):

Okay. Okay. Okay.

Taylor Self (07:32):

Wow. Jason cracked the top 10. Oh, Jason sucks.

Sevan Matossian (07:36):

Jason. Well, let’s go back to the ladies. So specifically Danielle, Brandon, she made it in there with that group, although she may have not been with those women in terms of their size and power. That was just sheer athleticism.

JR Howell (07:52):

Yeah, I mean I would consider her a top three athlete in the female sport in general.

Sevan Matossian (07:58):

So she made up her time on the go. The logs and the sprint.

JR Howell (08:04):

Yeah, and she wasn’t bad on the sandbag at all. I didn’t think. It didn’t look like she was taking an extra second when she lapped it or anything like that. She looked pretty clean.

Sevan Matossian (08:13):

There were some pretty fun falls to watch. We saw Paige za take a pretty cool fall. I think everyone who fell also recovered quite with quite a bit of grace. So we saw Victor Hoffer do a cartwheel.

Taylor Self (08:30):

Yeah, he was

Sevan Matossian (08:31):

Super smooth with that.

Taylor Self (08:34):

This had, it looked like he fell. This is Rome? No.

Sevan Matossian (08:37):

Is this page Roman

Taylor Self (08:39):

Paige Zaza? Same thing. Roman page.

Sevan Matossian (08:42):

Okay, here we go. Let’s take a look at is

Taylor Self (08:45):

Oh, it’s kind of She’s in the second lane in No, it’s, it’s right behind this pillar.

Sevan Matossian (08:54):

Oh, is this true? James Watson has the deadlift and moved to Sunday. Are we still far off schedule? Can anyone confirm that?

JR Howell (09:03):

Sevan Matossian (09:03):

You see the text that we just got? Yeah, so I don’t think that’s true because Susan, I just got a text from an athlete who he asked to come on. Who says, I’m sorry, I can’t, we have a briefing and a tight turnaround. Okay. Will you let the athlete know that if they change their mind they can just jump on and thank you? Hey. And even ask them, maybe even ask them if the, so the deadlifts still on for tonight. Maybe just ask the athlete that. Okay, thank you Wyatt Begay been a while buddy. Haven’t seen you around in a while. Lucky I’m picking you Mr. Wyatt, please stand up and ask your question. Hi Shan. Jeffrey Adler is lucky he didn’t break his wrist on his fall. Did he fall? Did anyone see that?

John Young (09:51):

Yeah. Yeah, he fell on the very first. I mean his only right? His only

Sevan Matossian (09:57):

He was one and done

John Young (09:58):

Go at it. Yeah. Three of the top five guys I think got out that that got through the buy

JR Howell (10:06):

Good. Keep giving him a buy.

Sevan Matossian (10:09):

Okay, let’s talk about that really quick. We are going to make the presupposition that giving the athletes the buy is supposed to help them and reward them for being in the top five. Is that correct? Do we all agree on that? Okay. Then why give them a buy when you know each round the athletes are getting faster and they’re getting one less rep of practice?

JR Howell (10:34):

I don’t know that after watching this and watching the first two years,

Sevan Matossian (10:40):

JR Howell (10:41):

Been evident for three years that the buy is not that advantageous. So I wonder if they do it to create dramatization of

Sevan Matossian (10:47):

So the presupposition is wrong is what you’re saying? It’s actually to punish them because that’s what the proof is pointing at. Am I correct?

JR Howell (10:54):

I think it’s giving the other athletes an advantage

Sevan Matossian (10:57):

To me and we know that because they’re getting faster each round. Right, right, right. They’re making tweaks, subtle tweaks.

JR Howell (11:02):

John Young (11:03):

Yeah. Yeah. Hopper’s first time was like 22, 35 and his last time was 19. Yep.

Sevan Matossian (11:09):

More efficient with each rep, with each go around.

John Young (11:12):

Yeah, and I mean I almost think if Tia goes in the first heat, then she doesn’t have such a poor finish that she did. That was her first go around and she needed to be faster.

JR Howell (11:25):

Nah, she sucks.

Sevan Matossian (11:26):

So Jr are we overthinking it? Is it like, hey, we just don’t give a fuck, we’re doing a buy because it works out better as we go down the reduction and we pick these five? Or do you think that there is some thought to that? Why do you think they give the buy?

JR Howell (11:38):

I think just that’s because of what the buy significant, it’s significant of in every other sport. If you make the final field of 64 and you don’t have to play the playing rounds and basketball, it’s because you better than everyone else. If you get a buy in tennis, it was because you were ranked higher than everyone else coming in. So I think it’s just like

Sevan Matossian (12:01):

That’s how we do it.

John Young (12:02):

But a match in a game doesn’t equal 20 seconds

JR Howell (12:05):

And this bias is hurting them

Sevan Matossian (12:08):

And that’s the problem. I don’t think this is true Jedi. We’ll get to the bottom of this right now. I thought this for a split second and then I think I unfuck myself, Jedi Nelson is saying you could argue they’re guaranteed a top 15 finish. I don’t think so. Right, because if they have the worst time, they’re still putting 20th

JR Howell (12:24):

Because the bottom five, the five out of the first round are already cut.

Sevan Matossian (12:29):

So even if you have a worse time than them,

John Young (12:33):

Even if

JR Howell (12:34):

You get in the second

John Young (12:34):

Round, right? Shit. Yeah, you don’t have a time. You have a placing. Wow. Right. It’s

JR Howell (12:38):

A placing. Yeah, they’re

Sevan Matossian (12:40):

Not digging the buy at all.

John Young (12:42):

JR Howell (12:42):

Dig the buy because now Tia is fucking five

John Young (12:45):

Points ahead of Laurel only or points after the deadlift. I love the lift. Laura’s going to be ahead sick. Laura’s going to be ahead by 10 points after deadlift. Yeah, Adler’s in fourth. Pat’s

JR Howell (12:54):

Winning the buy is dope.

John Young (12:55):

Well, I mean I don’t give a fuck, dude, that didn’t hurt Ner.

Sevan Matossian (13:01):

Hey, did Elena get booted for a false start? Is that what happened,

John Young (13:07):

Elaine? I thought it was someone else. Elena Carala.

Sevan Matossian (13:10):

Yeah. Did someone get booted? Let me ask that. Did someone get booted for a false start? I thought one of the women got booted for a false start.

JR Howell (13:16):

I did hear that. I did hear either Sean or Adrian say that on the free stream, but I don’t remember which athlete it was,

John Young (13:23):

Which is weird because a couple of the men

JR Howell (13:25):

Fall started it seemed.

Sevan Matossian (13:27):

I think I saw Morad and Jay crouch fall start. Is that who you guys saw? You think?

John Young (13:33):

Yeah, I know.

JR Howell (13:34):

Yeah, Morad for

John Young (13:34):

Sevan Matossian (13:37):

Okay. Did they just get time added to their

JR Howell (13:39):

Score or anything?

Sevan Matossian (13:40):

Do we know what happened? It

John Young (13:40):

Looked like they even got a

JR Howell (13:41):

John Young (13:42):

To me and it didn’t look at from the stance. It didn’t look like they were having extra time or anything talking with them at all. I didn’t see anything like that. There was a discrepancy about Hopper not touching the box or not. And I’m very happy that they let him through because he’s the best person at the

JR Howell (14:00):

Sevan Matossian (14:02):

Zach, go ahead. Go ahead Jay. Go

JR Howell (14:04):

Ahead Jay. Yeah, I was just

Sevan Matossian (14:06):

Going to say, whoa, whoa, whoa, buddy. Whoa, buddy. Be cool.

John Young (14:09):

It be cool. It

Sevan Matossian (14:10):

Be cool.

JR Howell (14:12):

Be cool. I was going to say after watching

Sevan Matossian (14:14):

Lower, lower, lower.

JR Howell (14:16):

Hold on. Scoot

Sevan Matossian (14:17):

It. I think I could help you out. Okay, talk now. Now talk now you can talk normal again.

JR Howell (14:23):

Talk normal. Good. Good.

Sevan Matossian (14:25):

That’s good. That’s good. You’re good. Yeah. Six. Talk to

JR Howell (14:28):

Us. No, I was just going to say I think it was pretty obvious that the chip timer was the end all the box was there as a fail safe in case there were technical difficulties, they lost wifi, whatever, and the chip timers didn’t work. They would still have the judge’s stopwatch and the touch of the box as a backup.

Sevan Matossian (14:47):

Did you see me fucking with the volume at the same time? You’re trying, I’m fighting with

JR Howell (14:50):

Susa over your

John Young (14:54):

What you guys are doing when you I was like, wait. Oh I see.

Sevan Matossian (14:57):

Tell me about the chip timer again. What were you saying? JR in the box. Tell me. Tell me.

JR Howell (15:01):

I was saying I think that the chip timer was still the end all be all. Whenever they crossed.

Sevan Matossian (15:08):

JR Howell (15:09):

That was

Sevan Matossian (15:09):

Box was irrelevant dude,

JR Howell (15:10):

Right, that the box was there in case they lost connection with the chip timers. So they told all the athletes, Hey, touch the box. We’ll have a stopwatch time for that just in case the chip fails.

John Young (15:23):

His judge was just being way extra

JR Howell (15:25):

And yeah. And are these everybody in the comments like, oh, you can fall start. You can’t fall start, but you get to just

John Young (15:31):

Miss the

JR Howell (15:32):

Sevan Matossian (15:32):

Okay. Okay. If that’s the truth, can we look at that slowmo of Laura and Danny? Because starting, well, I just think that Laura’s foot crosses that line. Where is the chip is in their shoe?

JR Howell (15:46):

It’s on their ankle. It’s

John Young (15:47):

Around their ankle. You mean Ariel? No meant

Sevan Matossian (15:50):

Spiegel. Oh, maybe it was Ariel and Spiegel. Maybe it was Ariel and Spiegel. You’re right.

John Young (15:58):

It’s not crossed.

JR Howell (15:59):

You can’t tell. It’s so hard to

John Young (16:01):

Tell. But I mean she steps on it. She doesn’t cross the line. It might’ve not made the sensor go off.

Sevan Matossian (16:09):

So at the very end of us, how long was that event? The men’s and women’s event?

John Young (16:15):

In total?

Sevan Matossian (16:16):

Yeah, in total. Did we just spend two hours with that?

John Young (16:20):

I mean

Sevan Matossian (16:22):

Too long? Yes, we did. Okay, so here we have this remarkable event, this fun event. Everyone loves to see a quick sprint. And there were two factors that were holding it back. I don’t want to get too down on this, but the angle, I feel like we never saw that angle. We never saw that angle either. The angles were so bad. It’s one point. I’m like what? I was like, hey, it’s not even worth watching. And then the distance in between their events was making it hard to keep up on what was going on too. Why didn’t they change at the very end, Adrian Conway goes, this is the very end. They’re showing a replay of the men’s event and Adrian says, wow, here’s a good angle. And I’m like, holy shit. And it was the overhead angle, right? It was the parking lot.

John Young (17:09):

The Skyview angle.

Sevan Matossian (17:11):

Yeah. It was basically the way they showed the masters at the games.

John Young (17:14):

I think that’s how they should have showed it the whole time and just have their names up at the top. Me too. With their times going and then you could time stop as the chip goes off.

Sevan Matossian (17:24):

That side angle was absolutely atrocious. So it makes me wonder, by the way, who was making that call? Because soon as you saw it, after the first or second heat, someone should have been like, Hey, we can’t tell what’s going on. But instead they kept us there for two hours with that side cam. It was bad. Yeah, it was far superior. Say it again.

JR Howell (17:44):

It was far superior. The overhead

John Young (17:45):

View and then the one time they did use it right as the

Taylor Self (17:48):

Race got good, they cut back to the shitty angle again. I was like,

Sevan Matossian (17:53):

I’m going to be a little harsh here. That’s like that person has to be let go from their job. That person’s completely incompetent. I could understand doing it once or twice, but whoever’s in that feedback loop or whoever was in charge of choosing that camera for the start of the race, completely fucking unacceptable Wad. Zombie is Caleb Holmes getting homesick. Who is feeding the people chained up at his house at the Shagan?

JR Howell (18:18):

You can go 72 hours without food. So

Sevan Matossian (18:21):

That’s gross. I don’t even know what you guys are talking about. You’re freaking

Taylor Self (18:24):

Out probably longer than that. Huh?

Sevan Matossian (18:26):

Sam Smith in 22nd races, you need wide shots, not closeup. Yeah, I mean, yeah,

JR Howell (18:32):

Absolutely. You be able to see the whole

Sevan Matossian (18:34):

Field pretty much the whole time. If you could do it, you don’t have time for five different camera angles. It was almost like it was like some geek who was geeking out on the fact he had five camera angles and he was excited. Wanted to show ’em all Jason Miller press and for frame by frame adjustment on YouTube. Oh, press and press period. Press,

Taylor Self (18:52):

Press not and comma.

Sevan Matossian (18:54):

Oh dang. Thank you. Wow. He paid us to teach us that. Wow.

JR Howell (18:58):

Thanks dude. Yeah, shit. 2 79,

Taylor Self (19:01):

Dude. So go back. Let’s check that fucking chip timer.

Sevan Matossian (19:04):

We still couldn’t see Ariel because from that shot, Ariel I think is blocking Danny there. It’s got the premium, does have those angles and I had the premium but I just couldn’t be bothered to switch,

Taylor Self (19:18):

But which

Sevan Matossian (19:19):

There we go. Okay, so look, so that is Ariel. So if I told you who won that race, the girl in the foreground or the girl in the background, who did you say?

Taylor Self (19:27):

Wow, a hundred percent Ariel. Wait in timeout. Is this the fourth round?

JR Howell (19:32):

Is it on her left or right?

Taylor Self (19:33):

Well, is this the fourth round?

Sevan Matossian (19:36):

Oh, I see what you’re saying Jared. Because if it’s on the left foot, Dan is eating with the left foot across the line

Taylor Self (19:41):

And Ariel.

JR Howell (19:41):

Exactly. Let’s see when that foot gets across the line, typically it is the left.

Taylor Self (19:46):

If it’s a fucking race, then Ariel wins. She touched the line first.

Sevan Matossian (19:50):

I agree. I don’t give

Taylor Self (19:51):

A fuck about the chip timer. That’s dumb. Fucking cut. Shit, thank you. They all know that they have the chip timer though. I don’t care. Dude, she

Sevan Matossian (19:58):

Won the race.

Taylor Self (19:59):

Is this in the fourth round? The chip timer? Was this in the fourth round where only two people know?

JR Howell (20:08):

But are you saying they should just wear chip timers on both legs

Sevan Matossian (20:11):

And their neck and their hands?

Taylor Self (20:13):

Ultimately this doesn’t matter because Danny Sp ultimately this doesn’t matter because Danny wins out again and again after this. But Ariel, Pete are here.

Sevan Matossian (20:25):

Well, someone was asking is if this is the fourth round, did only one of them progress from here

Taylor Self (20:29):

But Laura had already progressed or was she in a

Sevan Matossian (20:31):

Different heat? She was in a

Taylor Self (20:33):

No, because if it was the fourth heat they would’ve been in the same heat. Laura and Danny.

Sevan Matossian (20:36):

Taylor Self (20:37):

So this is the third round. It doesn’t really matter.

Sevan Matossian (20:39):

Shout out to Emily. Oh, here you go. 2 0 5,

Taylor Self (20:43):

But go to,

Sevan Matossian (20:44):

Okay, shout out to Audrey and Sima. Good to meet you guys today. Told you I’d make it to a live show sometime, Emily. Cool. Awesome. Good to see. Emily,

Taylor Self (20:52):

Can we go to the starting mat of the final round between Danny and Laura because there’s something really crazy there.

Sevan Matossian (21:03):

Tell me what

Taylor Self (21:05):

Well, just fucking Laura starts five feet behind her starting mat and Danny starts like four feet ahead of her.

Sevan Matossian (21:10):

And that’s on Laura though, right?

Taylor Self (21:12):

Yeah, but I just think it’s stupid because if Laura’s starting the center of her match, she wins the workout. The first seats, they were all at the back of their mat. That’s what I’m saying. So was what was the fuckup between judges? Danny should have started in the back of her mat or Yeah, right. Or Laura on her mat.

Sevan Matossian (21:32):

No, that’s on Laura. Danny’s just making the best out of every opportunity,

Taylor Self (21:37):

But they all started on the back of the mat in the first heat, the video we just watched, they all were on the back of their mat, including Danny Spiegel. Right. So if they briefed him, hey, not just start at the back of the mat, if they briefed

Sevan Matossian (21:49):

Them that No, no, I don’t think that If you were making the rules, you wouldn’t say start at the back of the mat. You would be like, hey, you can start anywhere on the map, but you have to have a handle.

Taylor Self (21:56):

Why would they all be back two feet behind her?

Sevan Matossian (22:00):

Maybe they just did it subconsciously and didn’t realize until later on. Zoom in on that, Caleb, she’s not even on her mat. So what I’m saying doesn’t even make sense.

Taylor Self (22:09):

So that’s not something you just subconsciously do. You don’t walk and start behind your shit like someone told her to do that

Sevan Matossian (22:17):

Taylor Self (22:18):

No, dude.

JR Howell (22:20):

The only other thing I could think of would be what? The mats were slick because I saw Brent starting on the grass a lot and that initial acceleration, if the mat was slippery at all, they just didn’t want to deal with it. So she started off the mat.

Sevan Matossian (22:39):

But let me ask you this. Is Taylor just being a hater because Danny’s fucking being a smart athlete?

JR Howell (22:45):

No, I think he asked a legitimate question. If they’re all doing it and the person he’s talking about was doing it initially, why didn’t they make them continue to do it

Taylor Self (22:56):

And she won by less than that.

Sevan Matossian (23:01):

So Taylor, what would you say if you were at Rogue? How would you have started this event? Everyone, would you like the rules that I have? Hey, you have to be on the mat and one hand has to be on the box. Other than that, you’re good to go.

Taylor Self (23:11):

Danny Spiegel disqualified. If I was wrong, I would probably say you all need to be, I don’t know, one or the other. All got to fucking do it. Not choose not pick your poison, not player’s choice to the left of your fucking starting mat with your right hand on the tower or on the center of your starting mat with your right hand on the tower. One of the two.

Sevan Matossian (23:37):

Caleb, are there drunk people fighting around you?

John Young (23:41):

No, somebody’s given us some.

JR Howell (23:46):

Oh, is that Leah Baz?

Sevan Matossian (23:47):

Yeah. Tell us what’s going on. What’s going on in the media room? Everything cool? You got a live shooter? Yeah, yeah. No,

Caleb Beaver (23:54):

They’re telling us that we can go on the floor for this one for the next event, for the deadlift stuff.

Sevan Matossian (23:59):

So fucking time.

John Young (24:00):

Yeah, right. Can you

Sevan Matossian (24:01):

Stream it? Can you Instagram stream it from the sev on Instagram podcast Instagram account?

John Young (24:05):

Probably not. They’ve

Caleb Beaver (24:06):

Been cracking down pretty hard on us.

John Young (24:09):

On you guys. Yeah,

Caleb Beaver (24:12):

They won’t let us.

John Young (24:14):

They’re watching us pretty closely I think off stream for the barbell spin account.

Sevan Matossian (24:19):

Let us quiet John, can we pull up the leaderboard and see the ladies leaderboard before we switch over to the men? Let’s talk about what’s going on here. Do we have a competition here? Is this just a glitch in the matrix and Tia, we’ll get back on the horse. This is just glitch in the matrix. Tia Tomi four 20. Laura Horvat four 10 in second place. Emma Lawson and third 365 Gabriela Mag. 3 35. Emma, Carrie, three 20. Ariel Lowen 2 90, 300, 300. So the top six are those are the gals, those are the girls, right? Maybe Gaza needs to get up there between Lowen and Christine. Colen, brander.

John Young (25:07):

I think the deadlift there will be major shifts.

JR Howell (25:10):

John Gun to your head going into tomorrow. Who’s first? Who’s second

John Young (25:16):

All day.

JR Howell (25:17):

So Laura is going to beat Tia by more than what, two spots?

John Young (25:20):

Yeah, I think Take the gun away from my head and I’ll say Laura Horvath. Wow. You don’t even need

JR Howell (25:26):

A gun, bro. That’s strong.

John Young (25:27):

Yeah, if you just want to look at me hard, I’ll say Laura, Hey, I think

JR Howell (25:31):

Christine Berger gets between them and who else? Allie

John Young (25:38):

Gel again. I don’t think Tia’s pulling four 15. Do you guys, you really think she’s pulling full capacity?

Sevan Matossian (25:44):

Wait, so think Laura’s going to win this. Are you guys saying Laura’s going to win this?

John Young (25:47):

No, but I She’s one of the girls that can win it. I think there are four girls who can win the deadlift and Laura’s going to be in the mix and Tia’s not going to be in the mix. I think Laura wins the deadlift. I’m banking. There’s two people in between them.

Caleb Beaver (26:01):

JR Howell (26:04):

There’s no way you disagree. There’s no way I will underestimate Mrs. Tomi o’s capabilities. It’s two ours. Roll. What do you think? Best guess?

John Young (26:18):

Tia’s. Deadlift. Yeah, I think you five.

Sevan Matossian (26:24):

You’re crazy. Danny’s going to win this.

John Young (26:27):

No fucking way, dude.

JR Howell (26:29):

Who’s got it then Who’s got it then? Taylor, Laura,

John Young (26:32):

The deadlift. Yeah,

JR Howell (26:33):

Dude, Laura’s winning the deadlift.

John Young (26:36):

I think there are four girls who win the deadlift. I’m picking Colin Brander to win the deadlift.

JR Howell (26:39):

I was going to say I think Colin brand’s the top three for sure,

John Young (26:42):

But I say it’s going to go Colin Brander Laura and then Danny Spiegel and then Alex Kaza and then Fre Ova and then one other person that I’m not naming. And then Tia.

Sevan Matossian (26:53):

I mean I think if it was a more technical lift I’d agree with you, but just since it’s just a deadlift and you just need that brute peer strength to pull it off the ground. We saw Danny do it with a log and I don’t know, I think she’s just going to pull heavier than these other girls and I think she’s got some momentum coming after that win too. Who are you not naming?

John Young (27:11):

There’ll just be a girl that I’m not thinking about is what I’m saying.

Taylor Self (27:14):

There’s only 20. How can you not think about ’em?

John Young (27:17):

I just didn’t know that the death lift was that good. So

Sevan Matossian (27:19):

We just got report about

John Young (27:20):

Everybody. Taylor, it’s hard to know what I know already.

Sevan Matossian (27:23):

We just got a report that the deadlift is on, by the way. So I dunno what the schedule says Caleb, but we are hearing from an athlete that they’re being briefed on tie breaks for the deadlift right now. So

Taylor Self (27:39):

Max reps at 3 15, 2 25 in a middle

John Young (27:41):

Window. Oh, that would be so terrible.

Sevan Matossian (27:44):

That would be so bad. Schedule said it’s starting at six 10

John Young (27:48):

And maybe not Reva’s. Really, really sick. I’ve gotten news like vomiting hard sick.

Taylor Self (27:59):

John Young (28:02):

But a deadlift you don’t, I mean

Taylor Self (28:04):

Fuck it. Puke on the way up, baby.

John Young (28:05):

Yeah, yeah.

Taylor Self (28:06):

Let it rip. You ever shit yourself on a deadlift?

John Young (28:10):

No deadlift.

Taylor Self (28:11):

Okay dude, maybe that’s why you only deadlift what you deadlift. Dude.

John Young (28:15):

Maybe get a

Taylor Self (28:16):

Little of that back action when you’re pulling from the floor. Dude, you’re right. Shit, you ain’t trying.

Sevan Matossian (28:26):

Okay, let’s go over, let’s go down. Let me ask you one more person’s deadlift. What about sitting in 10th place, man on Annet? Is that the one you’re not thinking of?

John Young (28:39):

It could be. I don’t know. I don’t know enough about her. I don’t know how good she is. A deadlift

Sevan Matossian (28:45):

Paige Za looks strong.

John Young (28:47):

She does. That’s what I’m saying. There are girls that I just don’t know how good they deadlift and I figure there’ll be one in there that I don’t know.

Taylor Self (28:58):

I really want to see Laura beat Colin brander because I think Colin Brander is the safe pick. Not safe. She’s, when you think who’s don’t, there’s raw strength. I don’t know. When I think raw strength of the field, I’m thinking Colin Brander. Unless it’s a bench, then you’re thinking ask. But I just hope think it would be S in there too.

Sevan Matossian (29:18):

Huh? Did we confirm it?

Taylor Self (29:19):

I put

John Young (29:19):

S Spiegel in there too. Raw strength.

Sevan Matossian (29:21):

Did we confirm it’s a ladder? Are they going to keep progressively lifting up?

John Young (29:25):

Kotler said it was a ladder.

Sevan Matossian (29:27):

So that could play a factor in this too because once they get to that top end strength, it’s also going to be more about who could continuously pull at that really high end as opposed to just setting the bar out of weight.

John Young (29:38):

It depends how long they wait. Maybe let it give them,

Sevan Matossian (29:42):

Johnny says Kyra Milligan looks like she has a nice lift. She’s

John Young (29:46):

A nice squat.

Sevan Matossian (29:47):

Oh, okay. Jessica Valenzuela. Can we talk about Lauren Fisher? She has been I impressive all weekend. Hold on a second. Lemme see. Eighth place she.
