Sevan Matossian (00:00):Video. The first one has nothing to do with CrossFit. Bam. We’re live. Grundler. What’s up, bill Grundler, affiliate owner, former CrossFit games athlete. Uh, uh, Andrew Hiller. Uh, former, uh, two times semi-finals athlete. Doesn’t matter. <laugh> wanted to go to semifinals. Regional Affiliate. Affiliate owner. And, uh, John Young.Bill Grundler (00:22):Just awesome. John Young, just to dude,John Young (00:24):Soon to be semi-finals athlete. I think you need to,Sevan Matossian (00:27):Boom. Hey, so that mic’s working. That’s picking up from your mic.John Young (00:31):Is it?Sevan Matossian (00:32):I can’t, I’m asking youJohn Young (00:33):Guys.Sevan Matossian (00:34):You sound good. Can you check your, um, can you check your, um,John Young (00:40):How would I check it?Sevan Matossian (00:41):Go to, uh, settings and then go to audio. And then go to a mic and speaker. I mean, is it coming through? And, and your mic and speaker should both say Jobber headset.John Young (00:52):I think you muteAndrew Hiller (00:53):The gear. You call it the gear. Click on the little gear on the bottom of your screen.Sevan Matossian (00:57):Yeah. What did I say? Settings, gear settings. Yeah, yeah,John Young (01:00):Yeah. It says it is, it says it’s both the Jabra one.Sevan Matossian (01:03):Okay, cool. Tap on it with your finger. Let’s see. Oh, shit. Wow. Wow. There you go. We’re good to go. You now have better. So now the, the quality is, uh, me and Grundler, then you and then Hiller for audio quality. <laugh>. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Motherfucker. Yeah.Andrew Hiller (01:21):You’re saying mine’s no good.Sevan Matossian (01:22):I’m not saying it’s no good. I’m just saying that there’s a hierarchyAndrew Hiller (01:25):Just because you have microphones on. No,Sevan Matossian (01:27):There’s a hierarchy of testosterone here too. I’m <laugh> I’m at the bottom of that. SoAndrew Hiller (01:34):You ever read this book?Sevan Matossian (01:36):Uh, everyone I think I have, I have read that.Andrew Hiller (01:39):Yeah. It’s a good book.Bill Grundler (01:41):I don’t you have that book.Sevan Matossian (01:42):I remember the cover being different.Bill Grundler (01:44):Yeah.Andrew Hiller (01:45):I don’t know. I got one of these speakers. That’s what I was looking for. And I found the everybody PoopsSevan Matossian (01:49):Book. That’s a microphone. He calls it a speaker. I thoughtBill Grundler (01:51):You pulled that. I thought you pulled that up. I thought, I’m like, he, he brought a bong onto the, onto the show, <laugh>. What theAndrew Hiller (01:56):Heck he doing? It’s aBill Grundler (01:58):I, no, I I got it now. But the way he pulled it up there, I’m like, oh, okay. Everybody poops and he’s got a bong <laugh>.Sevan Matossian (02:05):Um, I, I wanna start this, uh, from a a, this is a CrossFit games update show. It might just end up being the CrossFit update show. I don’t even know how much game shit we have today. But I wanna show you, um, something, uh, that none of you guys have seen, uh, that I saw on Instagram today that I thought was fascinating. It’s from the sport of arm wrestling. Uh, this guy is called the Arm Wrestling Whisperer. He exploded on the arm wrestling scene. Oh, I love this guy. I don’t know, a few years ago, I didn’t even know he existed. And then, uh, he popped up in, he’s got, I think 250,000 followers already. And he’s like the guy when it comes to documenting arm wrestling now. But here’s him arm wrestling, what I think might be the, the greatest female arm wrestler Alive. Uh, it’s, uh, Caleb, uh, Mr. Beaver. It’s the, it’s the one that says, look at this. Hey, fellas. What’s up girl? How are you? Nice to see you, <laugh>. Nice flag.Andrew Hiller (02:55):If I see an arm break, I’ll puke.Sevan Matossian (02:57):Here we go. Uh, it says, um, one of those things. Oh, one of it says one of those things you won’t understand until you feel it. I, I, I kinda love that. Um, there’s a lot of things about women like that, but here, here, this one in particular that listen to is the audio on this. The audio is crazy.Speaker 5 (03:20):I’m not used to someone too smart in the show. <laugh>, everyone usually just grips up.Sevan Matossian (03:35):Oh, do you think that that music’s gonna fuck us?Andrew Hiller (03:38):Yeah.Sevan Matossian (03:39):Oh, well, that sucks. TheAndrew Hiller (03:41):Show’s already been flagged.Sevan Matossian (03:42):Oh, that sucks because is is that a popular song? Do you guys know that song? Yeah. Oh, fuck. Nevermind. Scratch Next bit. Um, I wanna show you this ne Anyway, it’s a crazy video.Andrew Hiller (03:51):Grumpy. Like, I, I couldn’t really tell what was going on.Sevan Matossian (03:54):The guy’s like grunting the whole time. He’s like, fuck.Andrew Hiller (03:58):I thought that wasSevan Matossian (03:58):John. You probably didn’t like, you’re probably the only one who didn’t like that <laugh>.Bill Grundler (04:01):Um,John Young (04:02):I’m spacing out to be honestBill Grundler (04:04):RightSevan Matossian (04:04):Now. Anthony tpa, the show’s best looking male specimen Captain, bill Grundler, the voice of CrossFit and Hiller’s Hero, uh, Savon could pass from Bill’s grandfather.Andrew Hiller (04:13):You’re my hero. I didn’t even know.Sevan Matossian (04:15):$5. You can say whatever.Bill Grundler (04:17):You know that NotBill Grundler (04:17):EvenJohn Young (04:18):Sevan. You and Bill are close to the same age, aren’t you?Sevan Matossian (04:21):I’m older.Bill Grundler (04:22):You are not older.Sevan Matossian (04:23):I’m 51. I’mBill Grundler (04:25):54.Sevan Matossian (04:26):Oh, <laugh>. Shut up, bill.Bill Grundler (04:30):Yeah, try to play that old man. Look at, take your white beard.Bill Grundler (04:35):<laugh>.John Young (04:38):Okay. Uh, and what’s bad is both of you guys have better hair than me. <laugh>.Bill Grundler (04:41):I, I, um, <laugh>,Andrew Hiller (04:42):You know, you know what it is? You were the head of Media CrossFit, and it just aged you. Man. It did the stuff. We saw you holding the camera with the microphones on the other day. You were young looking like 21.Sevan Matossian (04:54):I still like, I just need to shave and, and get some laser treatment on my face. <laugh>Bill Grundler (04:59):AtBill Grundler (04:59):That. Just spun it up. You got the man bun. Pull that all back. You’re good.Sevan Matossian (05:02):Look at Pool boy. Stevon is 51. Get the hell out of here, <laugh>.Bill Grundler (05:06):Thank you.Sevan Matossian (05:11):Okay. Uh, let’s play. Um, uh, peace and love. I just really like this. I played this video earlier, um, in the week, and I just really like it. We’ll get a little, uh, just a reaction from, uh, from the boys here, what they, what they think of this. This was not on the CrossFit Games Instagram page, but I just thought it was so good. I was like, how, how did they not post this? So Katherine, David’s daughter and, uh, Hannah Black. Does this have music that’s copyrighted too?Andrew Hiller (05:37):Yeah.Sevan Matossian (05:39):Oh, shoot. Caleb, your shit is so stuttery today. Can you guys see this?Andrew Hiller (05:45):Yeah. Oh, yeah.Bill Grundler (05:46):Yeah.Sevan Matossian (05:48):Okay. Action.Andrew Hiller (05:53):So what’s your takeaway here? What are we looking at?Sevan Matossian (05:55):Uh, you tell me. What do you see? You tell me. What do you see?Andrew Hiller (05:58):I see, uh, Hannah Black Dwarfing, CRIN.John Young (06:01):Yeah. It makes me think, how big is Hannah Black?Sevan Matossian (06:05):What do you see Grundler?Bill Grundler (06:07):Well, I see abs, first of all. Yeah. Lots of abs. Catherine’s <crosstalk>, Hannah Black has got some broad, broad shoulders. Look at those things. Yeah,Sevan Matossian (06:17):I just, she’s big. They just look so happy. It’s like, that’s everything that CrossFit’s is right there. It’s two competitors. They’re strong, they’re happy. They got the endorphin rush. Their d n a is expressing itself and it’s fullest potential. I just really like this. It’s, um, uh, CCK. Kevin says, uh, Hannah, big girl getting recruited to H W P O if she’s smart.Bill Grundler (06:42):Oh man. Dude, I’ll tell you what the, the coolest thing with, uh, Catherine this year. Catherine this year was just watching literally how happy she was the whole time. She looked like she was having a good time. I, I talked to her at the games last year and she was just pissed. Yeah. That was actually a big thing for, she wasn’tSevan Matossian (07:05):At the games last year. When you say you talked to her at the games, she was on the sidelines.Bill Grundler (07:08):On the sidelines. She was there, actually, she was hanging out with, uh, her dude at the time, I guess. And then, uh, um, I’m like, so how, how is it like hanging back here watching everybody? And she’s like, I fucking hate it. I hate it. Mm. And well, whenJohn Young (07:21):You go not making it to second semifinals, I’d be happy too.Bill Grundler (07:25):Well, no, I mean, absolutely. But what I liked about that was that I still heard the competitor. And so it’s one thing to be a competitor, but then to see her out here, and then even, you know, we watched that, we watched that, uh, that whole semi, and she just looked great. It’s like she was just doing her thing rather than thinking that she was trying to prove something to someone. It was just, she was out there working and it was rad.Sevan Matossian (07:49):I’m just really digging this clip. Uh, uh, a quick note from, uh, Coleman, uh, Hannah Black is going to be on Clydesdale soon. And then, uh, Clydesdale Media chimes in Hannah is on our show Monday. Uh, they’re doing their shows live. Uh, so feel free to tune in, um, to that. I, I, I definitely will be, uh, watching that one. Eventually I’d like to have her on the show too. She did not make it to the games though, right? Hannah did not. But she had set the record lift. Is that her deal? Yeah. Yep. She’s the new strong girl in town. Right? She’s the new move over Danny Spiegel. We have Hannah Black.John Young (08:21):She’s not as strong as DannyAndrew Hiller (08:22):Spiegel moved out. She’s not moving over. Oh, she’s gone. Oh,Sevan Matossian (08:27):Okay. Yeah. Uh, so two corrections there. Uh, she didn’t move over. She moved out and she’s not as strong as Danny. Fine. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Completely made what I said worthless, uh, for hang, uh, extra sloppy. Thanks for hanging with me tonight. Hiller. Oh shit. Here we go. <laugh>, Andrew Hiller, Mary Fucker kill CrossFit High Rocks or B J JAndrew Hiller (08:50):Mary CrossFit, uh, fuck B j J and kill High Rocks.Sevan Matossian (08:55):No shit.Bill Grundler (08:56):I would, amen. That dude right there.Andrew Hiller (08:58):That was easy.Sevan Matossian (08:59):But what about our boy? Um, what about our boy? Uh, our High Rocks boyBill Grundler (09:04):Hunter.Andrew Hiller (09:04):Yeah, he’s,Sevan Matossian (09:05):Yeah. What would, what would he doAndrew Hiller (09:06):The stupidest sport ever created?Sevan Matossian (09:09):Okay, fairJohn Young (09:10):Enough. High Rock. Is the stupidest sport ever created?Andrew Hiller (09:13):Well, well, well, that’s, no, no. <laugh>John Young (09:17):WhatSevan Matossian (09:18):Said. Yeah. Yeah. John, finally, John woke up. John, that was a go get him. JohnAndrew Hiller (09:22):Greg tos is worse, but apparently that’s coming up and gonna be huge pretty soon.John Young (09:27):Bigger than the N F L they say.Andrew Hiller (09:29):Yeah, that’s what I read. That was it. <laugh>,Sevan Matossian (09:30):What’s gonna be bigger than what? PickleballAndrew Hiller (09:33):Corn horn hole.Sevan Matossian (09:34):Oh, please.Andrew Hiller (09:35):They begBill Grundler (09:36):It is on the ocho. They have that on the OchoSevan Matossian (09:38):Corn hole.John Young (09:39):The Ocho <laugh>.Andrew Hiller (09:40):That’sBill Grundler (09:41):Where, and dude, I’m, and I’m not joking like it’s on there.Andrew Hiller (09:44):<laugh> High Rocks belongs there.Sevan Matossian (09:45):Uh, this past weekend, uh, the CrossFit Games team headed up to Columbus, Ohio, the home of Rogue Fitness. Um, the story was, is that they were testing the workouts. I think this is the first, I’m guessing, um, uh, speculating because that’s what we do here. That it’s the first meeting of all the games teams since Justin Berg is, um, toast. And by games team, I mean the people who are in, in charge of the putting on the event, the operations. Uh, have you guys heard anything? Uh, I’m, I’m also guessing it’s the first time that Dave’s been clued in on what the workouts are. I’m guessing he had no idea he wasn’t following any of that. If he, if he was outside of the games, I’m sure I’m, they probably didn’t run anything by him. Right. So he shows up there in Columbus and he gets to see what the 15 events are. Uh, thoughts Bill, or do you think I’m expressing that accurately? Bill, what? Dave walked into this weekend, uh, and he’s up there with his buddy Bill gr, uh, bill Henneger. And I have to guess that Bill Henger and Katie are ecstatic that Dave is back.Bill Grundler (10:47):Well, they’ve always had a close relationship, I think. Yeah. Yeah. You know, for a long, I mean, like, the length of the games for sure. Um, I think,Sevan Matossian (10:54):Yeah. And it was love. It was love, right? Like they, those two, like just, they just, Dave and Bill just grunt at each other and they know, okay, we need three p, uh, sleds, a pegboard and a, and a, um, a sandbag over here.Bill Grundler (11:06):I, I think on, at the games level, it, at least back in the days it was, Dave was the right hand and Bill was the left hand for sure. Dave would come up with his product or whatever he wanted to do, and Bill would be like, well, all I think we can make that. And they’d come up with something cool. ISevan Matossian (11:20):Don’t wanna know if we’reJohn Young (11:21):Trying to try crazy stuff, isn’t he?Bill Grundler (11:24):Yeah. I mean, look at all those strongman things that they did. You know, that that wheel of pain, like they, they make anything, they, they would create anything.Sevan Matossian (11:34):So he, so I dunno what I just bumped something. So he’s respected in the space. He’s not just like some fucking guy selling. He’s not, um, just, uh, um, Jeff Bezos, he’s respected. You think he even has input? I mean, he has input obviously on strongman. He probably has input Dave, like respects him. Just all things, games, layout, the field, equipment, workouts, everything. Uh,John Young (11:56):The consult for sure. I, I don’t know about like, Hey, you think you should do this for the game,Bill Grundler (12:01):Right? I don’t, I wouldn’t say like, layout of the field necessarily, but I would see like, Hey Bill, this is what I wanna make. What can you do? And then he can go and then it’s kinda like his creative juices or, and we could do this. We could do something like this. Or can you make this if we do this instead of this? Right. Right. So he would have that equipment, uh, view that I think Dave wouldn’t necessarily have. And that, I mean, and that’s a great, that’s a great, you know, handshake right there. All right. And left hand is doing their thing, making things happen.Sevan Matossian (12:30):And, and while the pundits are like, oh gosh, darn it, I can’t believe they’re making these changes six weeks before. What are they doing? I don’t think Bill has any of that. I think Bill’s like later. Justin, Dave, thank you. Welcome back <laugh>. Anytime day before the games.John Young (12:44):I mean, Justin kicked Bill out of the semifinal, so, Ooh,Sevan Matossian (12:49):Good call.Bill Grundler (12:50):<laugh>.Sevan Matossian (12:51):Tell us, tell us John, what was that rumor? I heard that too. Tell us, what is that rumor?John Young (12:55):Ah, just like Rich, they, uh, bill didn’t have a pass or whatever, and they said, you gotta go rightSevan Matossian (13:02):Dude, I’d rather kick Greg Glassman out than Bill Henneger. I can’t even, fuck. Can you fathom that Bill Gruner?Bill Grundler (13:07):No, I don’t.Sevan Matossian (13:09):<laugh> <laugh>.John Young (13:10):No, we gotta specialize Grum. He’s like, I’m takingBill Grundler (13:13):LikeSevan Matossian (13:13):With me. Pack that shit up. We’re leaving.Bill Grundler (13:16):Um, it like, it seems to me that in our space there are certain people that it’s like, okay, cool. Yeah, welcome in. Not like, oh, you built all of the things. Yeah, you don’t have the purple wristband. Go ahead and leave. Or you are like, you know, the original, you know, goat of our sport, you’re here. You know, I just don’t know who you are. So you need, you need the purple wristband also to becomeSevan Matossian (13:42):Bill’s. Not the kind of guy who wouldn’t wear the purple wristband. ’cause he thought he was so cool. EitherBill Grundler (13:47):HeSevan Matossian (13:47):Would do, he would, he wouldBill Grundler (13:48):Follow whatever rules. He, he’s a quiet cat man. Yeah.Sevan Matossian (13:52):Uh, um, when, uh, this is a risky question. Did you ever, you worked with Katie Heger broadcasting the games?Bill Grundler (13:58):Uh, uh, sort of. He would do more like the, uh, the games desk thing, like with Pat Sherwood.Sevan Matossian (14:04):Right.Bill Grundler (14:05):They would do, they, they would do the kind of that in between that InBetween stuff. DidSevan Matossian (14:07):You like herBill Grundler (14:09):As far as what? As a person?Sevan Matossian (14:10):Just personally? Yeah. You liked her as a person? Yeah, sheBill Grundler (14:12):Was fine.Sevan Matossian (14:12):Did you like her as a, as, as a commentator onBill Grundler (14:15):In? Um, she was, you, you know what it’s funny is I’ve worked with a lot of, uh, basketball players, like women’s basketball players, Uhhuh <affirmative>. She is very women’s basketball player. She has that tone of voice, like when she’s talking and when she’s analyzing or whatever. And it was more fun to see her. I thought, just for me personally, like if you’d be at HQ and they’re out playing horse or something at the basketball, like, then she would do her little like shit talking and trash talking and stuff. That was, yeah. That was really fun to see that. Because when she was on the other side, she was very businesslike and very, uh, just like very basketball commentator, women’s basketball commentator.Sevan Matossian (14:50):I’ve, I’ve befriended this lady named Jen Ro. She’s a big shot in the softball world. She’s a commentator for E S P N, softball, women’s softball, and dude, I You’re exact same.Bill Grundler (15:00):Yeah.Sevan Matossian (15:00):Identical. They have this certain, they have this one. Like, okay, this is how you’re gonna talk. This is how you’re gonna stand. This is how you’re gonna be. This is, yeah. I thought she was great at it though, by the way. I thought I, and, and also ’cause she was games champ.Andrew Hiller (15:13):What was,Bill Grundler (15:14):I mean, that was helpAndrew Hiller (15:15):Question. You said that was gonna be a risky question.Sevan Matossian (15:17):Well, if he says Fuck Katie, then fucking then there two guys with fucking sunglasses and a suitor at my door taking all the way my podcast equipment. I dareAndrew Hiller (15:25):You. Put him in that position.Sevan Matossian (15:26):Taking down my ropes outta my backyard and shit.Bill Grundler (15:29):<laugh>.Andrew Hiller (15:30):Okay. They were pretty good. It was easy.Sevan Matossian (15:33):Dear Bill and Katie, bill Greer’s thoughts are his own and do not represent me.Bill Grundler (15:39):<laugh>. DidSevan Matossian (15:42):You, and any thoughts from you Hiller on what, what do you think happened in Columbus? Do you have a, a sort of, your, your analytics are so good that you’re almost seem like Nostradamus sometimes. Any thoughts on what happened over there? What it was like?Andrew Hiller (15:53):Just a whole lot of Dan Bailey.Sevan Matossian (15:55):Oh, testing the workouts.Andrew Hiller (15:57):I would assume that that, I mean, he is not competing, is he? Or is he? Did he make it?Bill Grundler (16:02):Mm-hmm.Andrew Hiller (16:02):No, no. He was close. I know. Yeah. If he didn’t make it then he was probably helping test some things out. Maybe they’ll actually,John Young (16:09):He was testing the Master’s workouts. He wasn’t testing any individual workouts.Andrew Hiller (16:13):Did you guys get the uh, the feeling that they didn’t really test anything quite enough last yearBill Grundler (16:19):For the games?Andrew Hiller (16:20):For the games?John Young (16:22):Can you gimme an advance? Well, for example,Andrew Hiller (16:24):Ladder took four hours, <laugh>, and they didn’t have any sort of a, a backup plan. And I mean, it’s like,John Young (16:32):How do you test that though? You have Griffin. Just lift the sandbags and see if he can do it and see if he can’t.Andrew Hiller (16:37):Well,John Young (16:38):From what, how, how do they know how many people are gonna clear 300 pounds?Andrew Hiller (16:42):Well, no, it was just like they didn’t have windows for the sandbag. They could just take as long as they wanted to. And they actually, I didn’t, they let ’em know, Hey, just go as long as you want. And I think that that’s something that could have been nailed down in practice so it didn’t take 10 hours. And also like the tie break, I think you guys brought this up on your last show. The tie break was bags for speed, not bags for weight or time lifted to take the bag. So if Justin did it in five seconds and someone else did it in seven, Justin automatically wins. I dunno, just stuff that <crosstalk> as opposedSevan Matossian (17:11):To what? I didn’t understand the distinction between those two. I understand. Not weighted bags.Andrew Hiller (17:15):The goal was to lift the heaviest bag possible. Right. And then that shouldBill Grundler (17:19):Be the topic thatAndrew Hiller (17:20):The time a great, he lifted it because, oh, level one. And it’s do work or do work quicker and do work in an amount of time or do work quicker. So Justin picks up the three 40 bag quicker. There’s no need for a tiebreaker ’cause you already did it. But I think Dave could have figured that out in a Columbus situation with a Dan Bailey.John Young (17:38):And I think thatSevan Matossian (17:39):Is really incredible. They fucked that up. Sorry John, that is really incredible, especially with Adrian going back to the roots of CrossFit. That makes so much sense what Hiller just said. Right?Andrew Hiller (17:50):It it’s mind blowing that they didn’t figure that out. And then it took four hours. I wanted to leave the stadium. I sat there the whole time. Like, this sucks.Bill Grundler (17:57):Okay. But, but I think that they, my re my thought about the reason why they went that way is the same thing when they did, uh, the clean ladder and then those who tied at a certain weight, they went and did that sprint to see how many cleans they could do. I think they did the same type of thing with the snatch, didn’t they? So that all of a sudden they kind of fell into a routine of heavy, heavy, heavy, let’s come back to a light. Wanna go for speed. Um, but dude, I think that was spin that brought up that idea, wasn’t it on your show? The last show? Yeah. ItJohn Young (18:24):Was somebodyAndrew Hiller (18:25):Somewhere Credit.Bill Grundler (18:25):Yeah. Awesome idea that, that’s an, that’s, that makes complete sense, especially on the sandbag. I I don’t think it would’ve made, it wouldn’t have made the same sense on the cleaning the, and the snatch just because of that lift. But you saw how long it took for people to move that sandbag and that would’ve made it, that would’ve made a really cool, that would’ve made sense.Sevan Matossian (18:46):Uh, for, for those of you you don’t know, um, uh, uh, look at, look at. No, it was me.Andrew Hiller (18:50):I do think it was Chase.Sevan Matossian (18:51):Yeah. Hey, but here’s,John Young (18:53):It’s possible for more than one person to have said it. Well, IBill Grundler (18:55):Didn’t mean I heard it on the show is what I was talking about. The last show. That’s Well, great job Chase. I mean wasSevan Matossian (19:00):Chase on that show?Bill Grundler (19:02):No, I don’t think he was, but he may have said that. I mean, chase, chase a smart guy. He comes,Sevan Matossian (19:06):I’m gonna vote that it was Spin before Chase. Dude. Dude,Andrew Hiller (19:08):It was on the show where you said the four things you would’ve changed with the program, you know, or maybe the four things you wanted to seeJohn Young (19:13):If, if that was then Spin said it way before that.Sevan Matossian (19:16):Yes. Okay. For those of you think we’re being ridiculous, you have no idea. We’re on this thread. Where soon as Hiller said it and didn’t give credit for it, I knew it. Like people got their phones out. Well, <laugh> and then you knew then I saw Grundler being the fireman that he is, he tactfully slipped it in there to give credit to spend it so everyone could like, it was probably like you knew fucking Chase was already like <laugh> and Brian friend and everyone’s like, had their shit up ready to go. And then Bill said that and everyone’s like, okay, can I set my phone down?Bill Grundler (19:44):I just said that I heard Spin say it on the last show. And I thought that that was a, a good call on the last show. Not that it was his idea and he was the sole person on the planet to think about that. We knowAndrew Hiller (19:55):It wasn’t Adrian’s idea. And that’s what’s important.Bill Grundler (19:57):That is what’s important. I see. Now, he’sSevan Matossian (19:59):So selfless. Hillary. So do youBill Grundler (20:01):Think Dave would’ve, do you think Dave would’ve come up with that though? I don’t, I we’ve never had that. I don’t know if he would’veJohn Young (20:06):Well, to Hil, to Hiller’s point, if you had two, like two minute zones to lift the sandbag or 90 seconds however you wanted to do it, the way put put timeAndrew Hiller (20:15):Until you said you were done,John Young (20:16):Like in the smash, you had a minute to do it right, or 30 seconds to do it, whatever they had. And then you’d have a clock going on, you would know who lifted it the fastest. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. It would just make more sense. I I think you could get there quicker if you had certain timeframes for them to lift the sandbag instead of just go for as long as you want.Sevan Matossian (20:35):Do you guys think that, um, do you guys think that Dave changed any of the, um, programming? I’m gonna say he, I’m gonna say he didBill Grundler (20:44):This year. I’m gonna say no.Sevan Matossian (20:45):Yeah, I’m gonna say he went to Columbus and he saw something and he’s like, Nope.John Young (20:52):I think we’ll find out later. Yes.Sevan Matossian (20:54):You think we will find out? I don’t think we’ll find. Okay, so sorry. Let’s do the first vote first. Who thinks he changed something? Bill says no. I say yes. Hiller.Andrew Hiller (21:03):Yes.Sevan Matossian (21:04):Young.John Young (21:05):I think there’s stuff that he would change for the games in 2023 that we’ll see.Sevan Matossian (21:08):Okay. Now Second Boat could beJohn Young (21:10):Small things. Could be small things.Sevan Matossian (21:11):No, I think big things. Well, gimme something small. I think it’s big things. I think switching from rings to to the pull-up bar is big. I think switching from, uh, stoneJohn Young (21:20):To, okay. Well that, that’s the type of stuff. I mean like instead of two miles, maybe one and a half mile. Like, like just to make workout flows better or layouts better.Sevan Matossian (21:29):What about changing stones to, to, uh, bags? You think that’s a big deal?John Young (21:35):Yeah. I mean those are different events almost. Yes.Sevan Matossian (21:37):Yeah. Okay. Completely D OhBill Grundler (21:38):Yeah,Sevan Matossian (21:39):So, so I, so so I think that there’s difference between running 1200 and 1600 meters too. But, but okay. But here’s the thing. Do I don’t think we’ll ever find out Bill, do you think we’ll ever find out?Bill Grundler (21:48):No, they won’t say it.Sevan Matossian (21:49):Yeah. J John do you think we’ll find, ever findJohn Young (21:51):Out? I think after the games, uh, it, they’ll say, this is how it got to this idea.Andrew Hiller (21:57):Can I get you in trouble?Sevan Matossian (21:59):Who me? Yeah. You? No, please don’t.Andrew Hiller (22:02):I’m not, not actually. Oh, what the hell is thisSevan Matossian (22:05):<laugh>? I didn’t this,Andrew Hiller (22:06):Did this get yanked down like immediately? <laugh>Sevan Matossian (22:10):Um, did T D C change the 2023 CrossFit games? Oh, we have a poll going.Andrew Hiller (22:16):It went up as soon as I pulled up my screen,Sevan Matossian (22:18):You pulled back your foreskin and, okay.Bill Grundler (22:20):Okay, well hold on. Okay, now you guys all voted yes. Yeah. Why, why would you think that he would change Now? He, he’s not coming in to the same position where he was right now. I’m not saying that he can’t talk to Adrian about whatever and they can kind of go over things, but I don’t see him coming in and going, Nope, not doing that. Nope, we’re not doing that. I, I could see Dave being like, okay, we’re gonna ride the year out. ’cause dude, it’s not like the year has been spectacular and I, here’s a, I just don’t, I think that they’re just gonna run the thread what it is. He’s gonna let Adrian do his thing.Sevan Matossian (22:53):Wait, pause that video there until Bill’s done talking. I got a question. Keep going David,Bill Grundler (22:56):Do his thing. And then the next year if there’s anything, it’s like, okay, hey, then it’ll be like, Hey, let’s, let’s fix what we need to fix or adjust what we need to adjust whatever. I just don’t see him, I don’t see him as his, as this role that he’s been put in to be the program guy.John Young (23:11):So you don’t think it’s possible like if he went to <crosstalk>? I’mBill Grundler (23:13):Not saying it’s not possible, I just don’t think it’llJohn Young (23:15):Happen. But like solve theSevan Matossian (23:17):<crosstalk>. I agree with Bill, but I don’t think it’s a program guy change. Go ahead John.John Young (23:20):And then just go like, what if we did this like just to make an event flow better and like to boss not changing it. Not saying we have to do this, this is, it’s no on this. And Yes, and this, if he just threw out an idea, just floated something and then is like, you’re right. I like that better. That’s changing something.Bill Grundler (23:37):Uh, I see that as teamwork. I don’t see that as Dave coming in going like, yes, havingSevan Matossian (23:43):Yes.John Young (23:43):On the 2023 games question.Sevan Matossian (23:45):Okay, so we agree. Sorry, lemme be more specific in my question. Well, I, I see thing. Lemme be more specific in my question real quick. Sorry. So we agree. I’m not saying that it wouldn’t be a partnership still with Adrian, but I’m suggesting that Dave is gonna influence the games this year. That’s significantlyJohn Young (23:59):I’m saying yes to that.Sevan Matossian (24:01):The movements, the programming. Uh,Andrew Hiller (24:03):I haven’t to your question.Sevan Matossian (24:05):Okay. Go ahead.Andrew Hiller (24:06):See this. I was watching the behind the scenes from 2017 the other day. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> and Adrian’s sitting right there staring at some if I don’t know. Is that Brooklyn? Yeah. IsSevan Matossian (24:14):That athlete stuck? Someone cut her down. That’s what I down <laugh>.Andrew Hiller (24:17):They’re that thing where they grabbed the net and then they cut over the top. Yeah. And right here you got Adrian staring Justin Berg’s around there and you’ve got Dave look, hey, don’t let them do that boss. It could be as simple as that.John Young (24:30):Yeah. Saying, saying, you’re not allowed to flip. Now you’re allowed to jump off and kill yourself if youAndrew Hiller (24:34):Wanna and mind, you’re not allowed to the day before. This is the day before they’re doing the o course. All the athletes are just out here trying it out, feeling everything out. And you can see like in an earlier scene, I think there’s Fraser going across. They’re just playing around both the day before they do it. And right on the fly they’re flying over and Dave points and goes, you can’t do that. And they make it a rule for tomorrow.John Young (24:55):And that’s not necessarily changing the event, but it is having an influence.Andrew Hiller (24:59):It’sBill Grundler (24:59):Okay. It depends influence wise. Like, okay. Yeah. They can’t do that. I still see that. I see it as a team thing. I see. I don’t see that as, okay, Dave coming in and wrecking shop and being like, like all of a sudden take boss out of the, out of the seat of the programmer. I agree. I see that team. Like, Hey, we need to make this, we need to make it work. Well and if it’s seeing it as a safety perspective or a camera view, because I mean, he’s the GM now, so he wants to make sure that like money,Sevan Matossian (25:25):There’sBill Grundler (25:25):Gonna be good spots.Sevan Matossian (25:26):And I think it’s it’s gonna be money decisions.Bill Grundler (25:28):Exactly.Sevan Matossian (25:28):I heard Sean Woodland say something in the Talking Elite Fitness podcast that I can’t even fucking believe that. It’s like, duh. I think probably Hiller said it to me five times and like, I don’t know what took me so long to sink it in. Justin was like, go, because there’s fucking Sean Wood. Justin’s let go ’cause there’s fucking money issues. Right? But, but I didn’t listen to Hiller. ’cause he is my friend. I talked to him five hours a day. I heard Sean Woodland say it, and it was like, oh fuck,Andrew Hiller (25:50):They had no money. IfSevan Matossian (25:50):He had been making money, they would’ve fucking kept him. Something fucking happened. And, and and and they got, and and, and they, they brought in fucking Dave to fucking lay the hammer down. And I think he’s gonna lay the hammer down. Well,Bill Grundler (26:02):Justin was the GM of sport, right? Uhhuh <affirmative>. What did, what did you always hear him say? And this is, and this is not, I mean small,John Young (26:09):We have a small team.Bill Grundler (26:10):We have a small team, a huge pun. Sev has a big nose, almost almost as good as Bills. And then three, all I ever heard, all I ever heard him talking about was like the affiliates. The affiliates. The affiliates. Okay, cool. Because the affiliate, the community is important. Yep. Yep. But your job is sport. Like go get money for the sport.Andrew Hiller (26:33):Oh,Bill Grundler (26:33):Interesting. Don’t keep talking like to the affiliate. It’s like, like that’s Don fall is, is us, uh, Austin Mallilo is us. Like that, that’s that split between the methodology of CrossFit and the affiliates and then this tip of the spear. The the, the sport of CrossFit. I mean yes, they go hand in hand, but you’re the GM of sport.Sevan Matossian (26:54):Not so much stay in your lane, but hey, fight for your guys. GoBill Grundler (26:57):Get go. Yeah. Yeah. Like the affiliates are not making money for the games. So like, I, I appreciate you talking about the affiliates, but go get money for the games.Sevan Matossian (27:08):Wait a minute. Austin will make sure that the, the affiliates are represented at theBill Grundler (27:11):Games. Well, okay. I mean, there’s, there’s the affiliate fee, that kind of thing. You know what I mean though? But it isn’t like everything dumps, you know what I’m saying?Andrew Hiller (27:17):If you watch any of the Greg Westman content. <laugh>Bill Grundler (27:20):Yeah, totally.Andrew Hiller (27:21):Yeah. 20 million. 40 million all goes to pay for the games. Where does that come from?Bill Grundler (27:26):I’m not saying that that stuff doesn’t go into it. It does, absolutely. But the thing is, is that that can’t be your only revenue stream.Sevan Matossian (27:33):You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. You get, you get, you get 6 million from the open. You get, let’s say, let’s say maybe you get 10 million from sponsors.Bill Grundler (27:40):And the thing is,Sevan Matossian (27:40):Is that you, you 16 million right thereBill Grundler (27:42):When you take, when you take all of these to get all of that broadcast that you’re wanting to do, like that is not cheap. It’s not cheap. So unless you are,Sevan Matossian (27:51):I know sometimes you can’t do event one and threeBill Grundler (27:54):Because it’s expensive, you know? But that, I think that was the thing. If you’re gonna tell people that you’re, you know, that you’re able, if that’s a money thing, I mean that, that, that would fit right in that, in that box. And, and again, like, you know, uh, I’m, I’m, I’m hoping that with the switch to Dave, I’m hoping what it is is, okay, make that thing, do what it needs to do. Get the, get the sponsors that are gonna be paying big Go and talk to people or get the team to talk to people to get a lot of money for tooAndrew Hiller (28:23):Small, the sport team’s too small.Bill Grundler (28:26):Well, maybe he had, well, okay, team is too small. He’s, he’s used. Okay. But now here’s theSevan Matossian (28:29):Difference. We have a very small team. He’sBill Grundler (28:31):Used to working with a small team that can go and do a whole lot of damage. Right?Andrew Hiller (28:35):What Seal Team six. Are there six of ’em? Is that how that works?Bill Grundler (28:38):Yes. I don’t know. Yes. Something like that. Well,Andrew Hiller (28:39):That’s the Expendables. That’s Stallone, right? <laugh>.Sevan Matossian (28:43):There’s way more than six of those graphs.Andrew Hiller (28:45):I know. <laugh>.Bill Grundler (28:46):That’s what I’m saying. I think, I think what I think what he is good at doing or will be good at doing, or what I’m hoping is he’ll be good at doing is, um, not doing it all a one man show, but, but uh, picking the right, picking the right gun to do the right job. Like you’re the, you’re the Seal officer dude. Like go get the people to do the things they need to do. The specialist,Sevan Matossian (29:10):David’s going to let Bo do what he’s doing and offer some other views and thoughts still in a way changing the games. Uh, DJ Yama Yara Yara, Mitch, what do, do what do you DJ outta Israel? What is that? Uh,Andrew Hiller (29:22):<inaudible> right there.Sevan Matossian (29:23):Uh, Fergie show, Boz leaves HQ and starts fit his clown league. Wow. That’s someone who knows their shit. Uh, Greg Ghost. Uh, the main reason I’m listening, Bill’s voice turns me on.Andrew Hiller (29:34):That’s a chick.Sevan Matossian (29:36):Geez, theAndrew Hiller (29:37):Weeds Keep talking. Bill.Sevan Matossian (29:38):<laugh>. My God. Uh, Rosie. Bam. I’m here in the shower. Is the, uh, is it one of those ones where the head comes off and you can get the, get the spots. Get the buddy, the buddy in the boat, uh, Rosie in the shower with four dudes, Barry Cocker. Great show. Alright. Um, John’s Lighting makes him look like, uh, s.
