CrossFit Games Semifinals – Day 3 Finale

Sevan Matossian (00:00):

It was an hour before she thought she was gonna be out there.

Sevan Matossian (00:02):

Wow. Damn.

Sevan Matossian (00:03):

More live like she scared.

Sevan Matossian (00:04):

Oh. Without saying any names. When you say drinking, you mean like some of the sauce?

Sevan Matossian (00:09):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (00:09):

Wow. Wow, wow, wow. That is awesome. Um, fantastic. Final event. Holy cow. Uh, that’s, that’s what I want to see, right? That that’s the race we want to see. Um, uh, incredible. Some people diving over the line. Uh, amazing.

Sevan Matossian (00:28):

Yeah. Good

Sevan Matossian (00:29):

Job. Good job, Adrian. Right? I mean, they killed that.

Sevan Matossian (00:32):

It was, when I’m screaming in my living room, I’m not one of those people who does that,

Sevan Matossian (00:37):

But, but you were, uh, talking to the tv. Yeah. Good job. Yeah,

Sevan Matossian (00:39):

I was screaming to down,

Sevan Matossian (00:41):

I was squeezing my man Bun <laugh>, uh, let’s bring up the, uh, leaderboard and just get at it. Uh, and so we can get through this and everyone can go enjoy the rest of their Sunday, uh, here on the West Coast. It’s still early. We got a whole day. Um, the, uh, I mean, there’s obvious some interesting news that we’ll get to here in a second. Uh, as we go through this. Emma Carey first place, uh, surprise or no surprise, the winner going to the CrossFit games, is this is her first CrossFit Games as an individual.

Sevan Matossian (01:13):

No.

John Young (01:13):

Yes. No. No.

Sevan Matossian (01:14):

She went 21.

John Young (01:15):

No, she got like 16th.

Sevan Matossian (01:18):

Okay. So she went there as a kid and then went one year and then took a year off, and then now is back

Sevan Matossian (01:24):

Then came back as a kid.

Sevan Matossian (01:25):

Yeah. With a <laugh>, right? And, and, and, and, and, and coming with a vengeance.

John Young (01:31):

Oh, yeah.

Sevan Matossian (01:32):

Uh, uh, uh, Danielle, Brandon, uh, second place. Uh, there’s this mistake. I think I I I’m gonna go out on a limb here. People keep suggesting in the broadcast that her and Emma train together. I want to be very clear with what my opinion is. They do not train together. Uh, they train in the same training camp. They have different times. They have different training partners. Uh, but I think that they are like, one of them is a tiger and the other one is a panther. And, uh, maybe they don’t mix so well.

Sevan Matossian (01:59):

They train near each other. <laugh>. Yeah. They every,

Sevan Matossian (02:02):

But there’s bars between them people. Let me tell you, I, at least that’s what I see when I watch the screen and I watch their interaction.

John Young (02:08):

Everybody in the bootcamp has their own individualized program, and they all get together. And they might do one workout together a week,

Sevan Matossian (02:17):

Maybe.

(02:19):

Yeah. Oh, yeah. And there are different times, and it’s even to the point where, okay, sorry. Sorry, uh, uh, this guy actually pro it’s tiger and Dragon. Yeah. Sorry, what did I say? I said, tiger and Panther. You’re right. Tiger and Dragon. And, um, not only that, but it is, it is, I don’t wanna use the word contentious, but it’s so intense that let’s say if, uh, if me and Spin were in there doing our training, and, uh, Danielle and Dalan walked in, Danielle would tell us to get out. I mean, everyone has their times. And, uh, it’s, it’s, I I can, I suspect that when people say, so how was it being here with your training partner, Danielle, uh, is like, that’s not my training partner. So anyway, it, uh, it’s, it’s great to see it. It’s a testament to what Matt Torres is doing there. Uh, you know, being a, uh, he’s like the new Tiger King. He’s, he’s running a fucking, uh, exotic animal park there. Some of the most dangerous animals in the world. So c congrats to them and the whole team. Kudos to Matt for managing all that. Yeah. Crazy. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Uh,

John Young (03:13):

And

Sevan Matossian (03:15):

He’s too down’s. Down’s, um, a mammoth. I love that thing. He’s a docile mammoth. If you don’t fuck with him, he’s, he’s good. Probably.

Sevan Matossian (03:24):

I love that thing that you say about managing talent. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Like, it takes someone who’s talented to manage talent. You gotta let ’em do their thing. It’s like, can you imagine managing like, James Break Ary and Danielle Brandon on the same roof? Like you got, you got some real steel with

Sevan Matossian (03:37):

Mansi. Yeah. Uh, and, and, uh, isn’t, isn’t Nate? Is Nate Ackerman over there too? Yep. Yeah. It, and we’re probably missing a couple. Okay. So, Emma, Carey, Danielle, Brandon, fantastic. Exciting for all of us, right? As fans of the sport were pumped. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. Um, Amanda, uh, Amanda Barnhardt, uh, no one, no one would be pissed if she won the CrossFit games, right? Holy, it would be like, I think people could get on that train in a second, right?

John Young (04:01):

Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. I don’t my mind would be blowing if Amanda Barnhart won the CrossFit

Sevan Matossian (04:05):

Games, but, but you’d be pumped, right? I mean, this is all games. Yeah.

John Young (04:07):

No, I’d be super happy for her.

Sevan Matossian (04:08):

Yeah. Uh, Emma Lawson, uh, uh, superstar good that she put a little question in our head, be taken forth, but we all still, still see her as dominant. Can’t wait to see her, right? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, uh, Alexis Raptors taking fifth place. We have no idea where the glass ceiling is for her, unless she’s completely pulling the wool over our eyes. Uh, she has some of the best attitude out there on the floor, right? Kind of the, the darling of across becoming the darling of CrossFit. Uh, same with page powers, right? We have no idea where the glass ceiling is exciting. And then we get to this mystery. This mystery. Uh, how did she do this?

John Young (04:43):

You know what’s crazy?

Sevan Matossian (04:43):

Sidney Wells? I am so freaking impressed, dude.

John Young (04:47):

There’s 150 point gap between six and seventh. So there’s a clear like tear drop, right?

Sevan Matossian (04:53):

The top, the delineation or demarcation. Yeah. Levels. Top Tiger says there’s levels to this shit.

John Young (04:59):

Yeah. I think we’re gonna all make top 15 in the games. Um, and then seven on down. Uh, I don’t know what they can do, but then not top 15, but it’s funny how much point of a point gap there is from six to seven, and then there’s clear groupings.

Sevan Matossian (05:17):

Um, uh, any, anyone have any thoughts on that? Do you have any thoughts on that? Tyler? Uh, let me ask you this, Tyler, even more specific. Would we see that in the Z score

Sevan Matossian (05:25):

Things are real delineations, like how they should be

Sevan Matossian (05:29):

<laugh>? Oh, shit. You’re gonna do that to us. You, you don’t approve of this scoring?

Sevan Matossian (05:33):

No.

Sevan Matossian (05:34):

Oh, shit.

Sevan Matossian (05:35):

Oh, shit. That bunch between about eighth and 14th was really close performance wise. And I don’t, I don’t like when you are a half a second away from somebody. I mean, you need to be real precise about how you’re scoring them. And so, I mean, we can get into it later, but I don’t, I don’t to, I don’t, I think if you held my leader board up blindly against someone a against this leaderboard blindly, and said which one’s correct? I think people would pick mine with the athletes who would be going,

John Young (06:04):

Well, are you not gonna tell us who? Wait

Sevan Matossian (06:05):

A second, wait a second. <laugh> Tiger doesn’t sing, uh, levels to this shit. It’s Myth Mills <laugh>. When the fuck was someone gonna tell me that?

Sevan Matossian (06:14):

I don’t know.

Sevan Matossian (06:15):

I thought he was at the CrossFit Games in Madison and he sung, uh, and he sung that song. Rap that song, or whatever those dudes do. What are you laughing at? Suza? Who sings that? I got, uh, is that Meek Mills? Is that, lemme see.

Sevan Matossian (06:29):

Did, isn’t this the lyric Avi quoted?

Sevan Matossian (06:37):

Wow. It is Nick Mills. Okay. My bad. Sorry. Uh, back to what was more interesting, uh, what were we talking about? Uh, sorry, we started

Sevan Matossian (06:43):

Talking about numbers.

Sevan Matossian (06:44):

Yeah, Z-score. So, so what’s wrong with this? A z-score. What’s, what’s the Z-score? Say?

Sevan Matossian (06:49):

I got basically fee doesn’t make it, and Carolyn Stanley don’t make it. A CreER makes it and Jordan Sw make it.

Sevan Matossian (06:57):

Wow. Is there a delineation in the, uh, points like this? Like the does that John Youngs pointed out to us this 5 57 and 4 0 9 thing, this gap between the showing the levels.

Sevan Matossian (07:06):

One second. Calculating <laugh>, I would say

Sevan Matossian (07:12):

I am really happy he made it.

Sevan Matossian (07:14):

There is after page. Yeah. So it, it still holds that John is correct. After, after Paige Powers, there’s a giant jump off. There’s almost a hundred point, point cliff,

Sevan Matossian (07:24):

And, um, and also

John Young (07:26):

Any difference at the top?

Sevan Matossian (07:28):

Yeah, Daniel, Brandon won.

Sevan Matossian (07:31):

Wow.

Sevan Matossian (07:32):

Wow. And so would you say,

Sevan Matossian (07:35):

Can you scroll back into the top real quick? Uh, su or

Sevan Matossian (07:37):

Based on your gut, who performed better this weekend? Carrie or Danielle? Brandon.

John Young (07:41):

I mean, I think Emma and Carey performed better.

Sevan Matossian (07:44):

She, Emma Carey has a second to 10th, a 10th, a second, and eighth. And a first Danielle bra has a 16th, a 12th. So that’s the problem right there. Right? She has two out of the top 10

Sevan Matossian (07:53):

We’re missing. Yes. You need, there’s, there’s a score on the left that you’re not seeing. Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (07:58):

What is that, the first

Sevan Matossian (07:58):

Column, the difference between those, those scores?

John Young (08:02):

Yeah. So her lowest score was a 10th. And Mc Carey and Danielle, Brandon has a 16th and a 12th. I think Emma Carey was much more consistent throughout the weekend. But

Sevan Matossian (08:11):

You have to look at the scores themselves, not the placements, the scores, how close they are, how much farther, two minutes. And in the first workout, Danielle, Brandon beats Emma by two minutes,

John Young (08:23):

23 reps in the second workout. Emma Carey, just 23 more burpees. That’s almost double. It’s 40% more.

Sevan Matossian (08:31):

Right?

Sevan Matossian (08:33):

Do you know what, do you know what kinda unfair

Sevan Matossian (08:34):

The Z-score thing, but yes.

Sevan Matossian (08:36):

Do you know what’s kind of unfair about the Z-score? It’s kind of like the fight Last night. Last night, uh, um, Haney fought, uh, Loma Chenko, and I don’t know if you guys are into boxing, but basically, Loma Chenko won the 10th, 11th, and 12th round, but he didn’t win the fight, but it should have. But he fucking just beat his ass in the last three rounds. And it’s almost like it’s a little unfair that there’s a Z score if they don’t know there’s a Z score, right?

Sevan Matossian (08:59):

Yeah, no, and I, I totally get that. What I end up, and that’s what I should say, is that I end up using this, trying to see how close, I think my scoring system’s better at judging what will happen in the future. How alike athletes are, or how close they are together. Okay. Um, yeah, that sort of thing.

John Young (09:18):

I see what Chevon’s saying though, cuz like, if you know you’re doing Z-score, then you’re going to try to beat everybody by more than you

Sevan Matossian (09:26):

Did, I think. I think especially

Sevan Matossian (09:28):

In a first,

Sevan Matossian (09:29):

I think it only holds if you’re in first. I think if you’re not in first, you’re pushing as hard as you can to get in first. Right? Th this thing that people, well, athletes would perform different. I think for the most part, athletes are com performing at capacity, except for those who are in first who might slow up a tad.

John Young (09:48):

Um, and who won first place.

Sevan Matossian (09:50):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (09:51):

I am hop rapidly becoming an Em Carey fan, uh, for sure. Uh, but still love me some Danielle, Brandon, uh, agreed. Uh, proud of J Hop from D Hop, uh, also James Sprague. Let’s Go Tall Folks. Represent, and, uh, I I think you can be, um, fans of both. It’s gonna be, it’s, it’s, it’s gonna be, uh, interesting little ying and yang over there. I am hop. Wow. Another $10. Also, what happened to Brooke? Uh, Mr. Spin? Did anything happen to Brooke? This is the fifth place finisher at the CrossFit Games last year.

Brian Spin (10:19):

The, the only thing I’m hearing is that she may have hurt herself, like her foot or ankle or something like that at some point, but I, I don’t have any confirmation.

Sevan Matossian (10:27):

Okay. They’re all pretty bad scores. 17th, 34th, 30th, 25th, 10th, uh, 15th. I, I I guess that 10th isn’t so bad in the field of 60, but, but she did not have a, um, she, had

John Young (10:38):

She come back or last week? Last score was, uh, third when it Third.

Brian Spin (10:44):

Yeah. It’s just not what you’d expect from somebody who finished what, fifth or fifth? No, last fifth last year.

Sevan Matossian (10:51):

And she, and she just barely, uh, didn’t make it, but Yeah, exactly.

John Young (10:54):

Do you think Shane not being there has a, has a something to do? Do you think she’d be better if Shane was there?

Sevan Matossian (11:00):

He wasn’t there.

Sevan Matossian (11:02):

No. So you’re saying, is she coach dependent? Yeah. Like, does she need that?

John Young (11:06):

I mean, she’s under the Bergeron train, right? Or she used to be mm-hmm.

Sevan Matossian (11:11):

<affirmative>,

John Young (11:12):

Um, you know, he was big on that. I’m just wondering if it had any, like, if it would’ve helped her. She was only out by seven points, you know what I mean? A couple places here and there. I think a coach could add that. You don’t, maybe

Brian Spin (11:26):

If you’re talking about that, but where we expected her to be a top five finisher this weekend. I don’t think that was an issue. I mean, maybe, maybe if he was there, he, she gets into 11th spot, but she just definitely didn’t perform as well as she should have, regardless of whether he was there or not.

Sevan Matossian (11:44):

Do we know who was there as like, the handler of the proven athletes this weekend? Or was, was there one?

Brian Spin (11:49):

I I know Nick Johnston was there. I don’t know who else.

Sevan Matossian (11:52):

I, no, I think, um, I think, uh, Fraser was doing both. Uh, he told, yeah, don’t worry. I got this <laugh>. I got it, I got this. And

John Young (11:59):

All, all of Fraser’s people did great. Ints people. Trash cock,

Sevan Matossian (12:05):

Cock gun. $1. Thank you. Thank you. Uh, cock gun. Okay. Uh, at any, um, let’s go back up to, let’s look at number seven 11 page. Sam Menza barely squeaking by, uh,

John Young (12:20):

Shelby Neil in the clutch. Anika called that.

Brian Spin (12:25):

That was a good call.

Sevan Matossian (12:26):

Hold on when I’m talking. Uh, don’t just jump in. Hold on. Or say, excuse me or something. Uh, Anika Greer at 3 83 page Zaza 3 86. And is, uh, and then, and Carolyn Stanley, uh, who was nice to be introduced to her, I didn’t know who that was. And then in ninth place, John

John Young (12:42):

Shelby, Neil <laugh>.

Sevan Matossian (12:46):

Hey, that’s close. 3 98, 3 97, 3 95. What a, what a mashup. Right?

Sevan Matossian (12:51):

Really close.

Sevan Matossian (12:53):

Uh, what did you guys think? I didn’t think it was cool that, um, the cameraman. So, so the whole, we’re waiting for the final, uh, the 11th person to be called. And the cameraman puts a camera on, uh, page se Menza and Annika Greer. And it’s like, well, at that point we know Brook’s out. And really, you know, normally I’m not a big fan of Instagram followers, meaning shit, but, but in this case, I think it does matter. You got Brooke Wells with 1.8 million or whatever fucking Instagram followers. And now we know that she’s not, she’s not in the running, you know what I mean? All the suspense of her making it is gone. Everyone, because the camera’s got a closer, they

Brian Spin (13:29):

Can only afford two cameras.

Sevan Matossian (13:31):

<laugh> then do a wide shot.

Sevan Matossian (13:33):

They’ll be, yeah, they’ll do a highlight of that later.

Sevan Matossian (13:35):

Yeah. Then just do a wide shot. I’m, I’m just saying for if you wanna make the show as best as possible, just use a wide shot. Use a wide shot. Let us see Brooke. Cuz the whole time, all I’m caring about really no offense to Paige se Menza, but I know of Annika Greer and I know of Brooke Wells and it’s cool. I I’m not saying that they shouldn’t have had Paige se Menza in the shot, but I also would’ve liked to have seen Brooke Wells’s reaction when she didn’t make it, how she handled it. She’s a staple in the com. She’s a staple in the community. They could

Brian Spin (13:58):

Have put, they could have put Paige through, honestly, Carolyn Prevo all together.

Sevan Matossian (14:03):

Yes. Yes. I would give you true Carolyn Prevo big name also. Let us see, let us see all of them. Because we were wondering, when you just narrowed it down to those two, it’s kind of like, eh, you blew your load. There was no suspense on, we all knew. Oh, uh, I didn’t know. I I had no idea. Did you guys know?

Sevan Matossian (14:19):

Yeah. I I, I, that’s why I I disagree with you. I think there’s no gain in putting the camera on her. Like she

Sevan Matossian (14:24):

On On who? On, on Brooke.

Sevan Matossian (14:26):

On Brooke. She was, she knew she wasn’t gonna make it for the most part. Um, and then, so if you’re trying to like, respect her followers, like it’s only gonna be sad or, or, uh, sort of kicking a dog while it’s down sort of thing.

Sevan Matossian (14:39):

No, no. Not respect. Not respect her followers. Respect just the, the sport, the narrative of the sport. She’s the biggest name on the floor. She probably has more followers and more, um, uh, garners more attention has more sponsorships than all the other athletes out there put together. And she’s, let me see, a 3 79, uh, let me see. 11th place. What was 11th place? I mean, fuck worrying about respecting her. She cries. They, they showed lo chenko crying last night. If they can show him crying, they can show seven point difference. Yeah. Come on. Oh, no. Uh, it’s, uh, yeah,

Brian Spin (15:08):

Seven

Sevan Matossian (15:08):

Points. Yeah, seven points. Dude. Tyler.

Sevan Matossian (15:12):

Yeah. I guess. Thank

Sevan Matossian (15:14):

You. Thank you. Thank you. We,

Brian Spin (15:15):

We didn’t, when they announced it, we didn’t know. Right. All we

Sevan Matossian (15:17):

Know. I didn’t know this guy, this guy. Joel’s claiming that he knew she was out. How can you know she was out? She’s only out by seven points. Yeah. We didn’t know that

Brian Spin (15:23):

This was close.

Sevan Matossian (15:24):

Yeah. Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (15:26):

Okay. Uh, no, no. Dissenting saying, I see what I get. What you saying on, oh, thank you. I feel

Sevan Matossian (15:31):

I I get what you’re saying. And so like, it would make a really cool video later in the year of like, you know, her being sad and then like, you know, her going to work and then you know, her redemption or something. That’s cool. I, I get what I get. What you’re trying to set up,

Sevan Matossian (15:44):

Uh, put her on the screen because it’s tv, it’s entertainment. Thank you Julian and Roland. That looks, he looks like he’s ai. I mean,

John Young (15:50):

We could have just kept Sidney on the screen. It’s basically the same thing.

Sevan Matossian (15:54):

<laugh>.

Sevan Matossian (15:56):

Fair enough. I I mean the least we could have seen her sister’s reaction. That’s

Sevan Matossian (15:59):

Racist.

Sevan Matossian (16:01):

Uh oh it is. Okay. Um, let’s cruise over to the, oh, one more thing that was interesting. Um, the schedules that we have, I don’t have mine here with me. The schedules that we have showed that the men were gonna go first. And we had talked about that on the show here, that the men were gonna go first for the final event, seven. And then the women were gonna go and we were kind of questioning why was that? Why was that? But whatever. Let let it be the way it’s supposed to be, the way they want it. And then we were doing, the last time you saw us on the air here, we were wondering, after we got off the air, all of us were sitting around and we’re like, Hmm, I wonder why the show hasn’t started yet. They’re about 10 minutes behind schedule. Well, what we found out is that the women who went in that, what do you call it? Heat one.

Brian Spin (16:43):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (16:43):

First heat. The, the women who went in heat one were basically given 10 minutes notice because they didn’t know that they were going on before the men. They thought just like we all did, the viewers at home, that the men were gonna go first. And so some of these ladies were, they were strewn all over the place. Uh, some of ’em were getting contacted on Instagram, some of ’em by text. Some of ’em just happened to be standing there. Some of them had already started throwing back some of the, you know, the booza, the Booza <laugh>. And, uh, it’s, um, it’s, it’s, uh, it’s interesting. I don’t know wh when we, when we talked to other people who were working the event, they told us, no, that’s bullshit. The girls were notified. But, uh, I’ve talked to three different girls. I think Spins talked to some girls, uh, I don’t know who else has talked to girls, but none of them knew from the first heat. I think we have a first heat, third heat, fourth heat, six heat, uh, confirmation that they had no idea that they were going, uh, before the men, that that was news to them. So, uh, the unknown and unknowable was alive. And I think that’s the reason why that event, uh, started 10 minutes late. Um, does anyone have anything, uh, different to say about that?

Brian Spin (17:44):

I mean, I had, after I posted the story of a couple of the comments initially had even more follow through and it was all the way to top level coaches that were thrown off by it. So it wasn’t like the athlete, you know, the athletes were just focused on something else, didn’t pay attention. And, but the coaches were aware, like, no, nobody knew.

Sevan Matossian (18:03):

And I, and I liked it, that the people that we spoke to were like, no, that can’t be true. We knew <laugh>. Okay. Okay. Well, the athletes didn’t know they’re part of, they’re part of the, uh, there’s athletes and then there’s people who set up the shit and then the judges, and then the media, and then the fans. But the athletes gotta know no one. That’s the most important thing. Right. That they know. So, uh, Joe Biden in the chat. Um, Joe, what’s up buddy? Come on man. <laugh>, uh, thanks for the great coverage this weekend, guys. Uh, you’re welcome. From Canada. Wow. Thank God. Please stay in fucking Canada. Come on, man. Thank you. And I apologize to my mom. She told me, taught me as a young age to always respect our president. But I swear. Oh, are you saying the show was a shit show? No, no. I, I am not. Um, I’m just saying the unknow unknown and unknowable is alive. Uh, Saban’s dog. Oh. It’s my own money. You’re sending me dip shit. Uh, and where is he? What country is my

John Young (18:58):

Dog? What country? What country is it from?

Sevan Matossian (19:02):

I gotta look that up.

Sevan Matossian (19:03):

Uh, but Sevi, you told me the leadership leaderboard isn’t definite because in two weeks something the companies get sued. <laugh>, I don’t even know what you mean, but I like it. Uh, Swiss Frank. Oh, a dollar is that? No. How much is that? It’s five bucks. Well, thank you. Yeah. Um, Sev trying to get Brooke on, uh, grease in the wheels. God, I hope so. That would be cool if she came on. I like Brooke. I wanted her to make it. I was rooting for her the whole time. I am very glad. Uh, fee made it though. Fee, fee. Fisi, uh, Estevan Sanchez, uh, with $13. Thank you. Uh, talk about Greer Judge giving her a no rep and then costing her 10 seconds.

Sevan Matossian (19:42):

Yeah. Did we ever find out? Like I would definitely, I that was definitely

Sevan Matossian (19:45):

Legit. Legit. I think that was, no,

Sevan Matossian (19:47):

It was legit, but I still would’ve

Sevan Matossian (19:49):

Oh, when you’re talking about when she came down the rope or when she carried the bag over the line,

John Young (19:54):

Uh, rope

Brian Spin (19:55):

Was fine that she ended up getting the, counted the rep. Right.

John Young (19:59):

They’re talking about the appeal, like her appealing. It costed her 10 seconds. I I mean she was going to rest that long anyway, guys, as far, I I don’t, it might have costed her a little bit, but she wasn’t going right back up. Um, as No, I’m

Sevan Matossian (20:12):

Gonna CrossFit a point for that. I’m gonna, I’m gonna give cross it a pat on the back on that for like, at least. Yeah. Not making her go up again. I’m gonna get

John Young (20:19):

Up. I’m gonna give you, that’s the best they’ve ever handled. Something like that. Um,

Sevan Matossian (20:22):

But you think about it, that’s the kind of rep that you would want. Cuz it’s like, like you said, she had to wait mm-hmm. <affirmative>, like you have time to make that decision. You can’t do that in the middle of thrusters. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. You know what I mean? So, but, but I, I agreed. I am happy that they gave her that rep.

Brian Spin (20:37):

Yeah. And, and as for picking up the sandbag, it looked like there were a lot of inconsistencies with the, uh, judging mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, but she would’ve needed to pick five seconds to get enough points so she would’ve picked up one spot if she hadn’t been No, no rep on that. Um, but it would’ve been, she still would’ve been one point sh shy of what she needed.

Sevan Matossian (20:58):

God, Shelby Neil, ninth place. She must be stoked. She had a fucking, uh, a good cry, huh? After she was announced.

Brian Spin (21:06):

Oh yeah.

Sevan Matossian (21:07):

Uh, okay. Uh, we don’t know what happened to Brooke. Javier, you could go back like 20 minutes. We talked about what happened. We’re not sure what happened. Uh, maybe an injury. Um, we’re not

John Young (21:16):

Sure. How old is Brooke? Is she on the way down?

Sevan Matossian (21:19):

I mean, she was fifth at the games last year. She’s

Sevan Matossian (21:21):

Been competing a while. Is this the, is this the, the highest placing games athlete who didn’t make it the next year? Um,

John Young (21:30):

In comparison, like, no. Brent, Brent got cut in 2019. Oh, I guess he was at the games though. You’re talking about he was at the games. He did not make the games.

Sevan Matossian (21:37):

I mean, Sam, Sam Briggs is the last one I can think of that is like, man, you did really well at the games last year and now you’re not making it. Is this the highest one we’ve seen since,

John Young (21:46):

Uh, Ricky?

Sevan Matossian (21:48):

Well, oh,

Sevan Matossian (21:49):

<laugh>.

John Young (21:51):

Um, I

Brian Spin (21:52):

Think Brooke is 28 right now.

Sevan Matossian (21:55):

Ah, she got a good, she got a good year Left dinner

Sevan Matossian (21:58):

<laugh>. That’s

Sevan Matossian (21:58):

It. Uh, from the clock. Uh, it was 27.86 seconds between the no rep call and the start of her second climb. She lost, uh, second place and three points by 4.2, uh, seconds. If, let’s say, let’s give her those three points and oh shit. Oh shit.

John Young (22:17):

And then if she tied Paige, it would go to her best finish and she got a third place. Paige got a fifth place. Oh

Sevan Matossian (22:27):

Shit. And then she <laugh>. Oh shit. Shit. Clock sounds. Let’s that, let’s bury that. Don’t let anyone see that. Holy <laugh>.

Sevan Matossian (22:37):

Delicious. See that? Oh,

Sevan Matossian (22:39):

That hurts.

John Young (22:40):

I mean, I think clock’s on. Team an Anika if he’s bringing that up.

Sevan Matossian (22:45):

Damn. Yes. Uh,

Sevan Matossian (22:48):

Everybody wants to know who Trish is. Who’s clock?

Sevan Matossian (22:51):

Uh, Susie tell $20 and 23 cents. Thank you. Cuz we’ve been doing a lot of freebie questions here. I appreciate you covering the, the sloths. The slouches. Great coverage guys. Caleb for the win at the press conference. Dude. Crazy right? Se I saw one CEO shirt in the crowd. What the fuck? Cuz we only probably only gave one away.

Sevan Matossian (23:09):

That’s last season. Last season’s shirt <laugh>.

Sevan Matossian (23:13):

That’s disgusting. I know. Absolutely. Just Caleb, did you see any CEO shirts there?

Caleb Beaver (23:18):

Yeah, I saw probably 1520 of ’em.

Sevan Matossian (23:22):

Um, someone did send, someone did send me a picture of wearing a c e shirt, taking a picture with Justin Berg.

Caleb Beaver (23:28):

Oh yeah.

Sevan Matossian (23:29):

A tank top. That was nice.

Caleb Beaver (23:30):

Lemme take a picture with me. With a TD c e o

Sevan Matossian (23:32):

Shirt. Oh wow. Wow. That was cool. Okay. I thought I was gonna get rich off of those. Uh, Luis Lemos. Wow. Dude. With the big this guy. Uh, penny bucks. Yeah, this guy always comes in big outta nowhere. No profile picture. No way to, I can’t make fun of you. Nothing. Just say thank you

Speaker 6 (23:49):

Dl

Sevan Matossian (23:52):

Uh, Anthony Hendricks. Shane and t were preoccupied with the baby coming. No, the baby’s here. Uh, seems like Brooke got left over coaching time. Ah, an athlete, uh, that fit falls off. Not necessarily on the athlete completely. Ah,

John Young (24:05):

I mean it’s like 80% on the athlete. I think

Sevan Matossian (24:08):

80. I’m gonna say she’s seasoned.

Brian Spin (24:12):

Yeah. The the programmer is still the same.

John Young (24:15):

It’s like 95% still on the athlete.

Speaker 6 (24:18):

Yeah. Might say 95 a

Sevan Matossian (24:20):

Coach can do 95.9. Okay. Let’s go to the boys. Uh, yeah, Caleb was the one asking the real questions. If you didn’t see your, the press conference, uh, go over and check it out. Actually, I want to, um,

John Young (24:34):

It’s updated if you click refresh.

Sevan Matossian (24:38):

Oh, what? Oh, the, the boys leaderboard. Uhhuh

John Young (24:40):

<affirmative>. Yep.

Sevan Matossian (24:42):

Did um, did, did you see Caleb, did you see any cameras there of them streaming? Uh, the did they did, did they stream the press conference?

Speaker 6 (24:53):

No, we were the only ones streaming it.

Sevan Matossian (24:55):

Okay.

Brian Spin (24:59):

I was the only one that streamed the last one.

Sevan Matossian (25:01):

Where, where is that? Is that, is that event six recap?

Brian Spin (25:05):

No, it’s the early morning show.

Speaker 6 (25:07):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (25:08):

Oh, it actually says press conference there. Okay. Okay. Okay. Makes sense. Uh, Jeffrey Adler, uh, his second, uh, uh, semi-finals win. I stole this from, I heard Sean Woodland say this, or Chase or whoever was talking, uh, his second, uh, semi-final win in his career. He also won the open this year. So he is got an open and semi-finals win. How’d he do in the quarter finals?

Brian Spin (25:28):

He won that too, right?

Sevan Matossian (25:32):

You think Justin’s watching? You think he watched this week?

John Young (25:35):

He better be.

Sevan Matossian (25:37):

Why do you say that? Yeah,

John Young (25:40):

I mean, the way Jeff has looked, I think he can, I think he can give Maderas a scare. I don’t know if he can win, but look, if you look at the consistency, it’s stuff that we’re used to seeing from Justin, like across all these events. The only difference is Adler’s capable of winning events. Um, my Adler has his home runs too, and there I don’t see a spot where he was weak. His worst event was a 2 85 pound snatch. I’m, I trust that Adler’s gonna be all right in the strength department. And that was his worst event. Um, I,

Sevan Matossian (26:17):

I also, I also stole this from Sean Woodland, uh, that Adler and Dolan Pepper were the only two, uh, that didn’t fall out of the top 10 all week. And that is, uh, you know, reminiscent of our buddy, uh, Mr. Madras, the champ also, uh, that’s an important quality, right? Not necessarily winning events, but just consistency. Consistency in the top 10, top seven. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>.

Brian Spin (26:39):

Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Yeah. I, I, I like Adler. I think coming out of this, seeing that he beat Roman pretty easily, um, I think that gives him a lot of confidence going into to the games.

John Young (26:51):

I have my own opinion about that though.

Sevan Matossian (26:53):

Oh, let’s hear it. Let’s hear it.

John Young (26:55):

I I mean, hopper also easily beat Roman. Um, which I thought Hopper had a chance to beat Roman, but not easily because any event that Hopper does good in Roman should do good in vice versa. Um, Roman just did not look like the Roman that we’re used to seeing. I, I, I feel like we’re used to seeing him kill everybody in three events. Like the three events he did really, really good in. I’m used to him beating everybody by 30 seconds on those events.

Sevan Matossian (27:26):

Here’s a thought, here’s a thought. I know at Mayhem they generally, like there are people training in groups that are all like pro-level athletes. It’s the same thing at Proven, they kind of train in groups, but at Brew we do know that they train separate and that they might clash. So are they going too hard in the paint when they’re training and then they get to these things and they’re burnt?

John Young (27:47):

Romans and Nathan.

Sevan Matossian (27:49):

That’s what I said. Yeah.

John Young (27:51):

So what, what are you, what are you meaning just

Brian Spin (27:54):

Training along side of each other. Yeah. Constantly.

Sevan Matossian (27:56):

There were two camps that kind of struggled this year, I think. Mayhem and Proven and proven. Yeah. And they all trained together.

Brian Spin (28:05):

Certain people at Mayhem did well,

Sevan Matossian (28:07):

Yeah. I mean sa but Sam, he’s been in Canada. He hasn’t been at That’s true.

John Young (28:11):

Mayhem. And Sam had a gap year too. So like, we’re seeing what two years of training is with for Sam, right. An individual.

Sevan Matossian (28:19):

He’s probably

John Young (28:20):

Top 10. I don’t, I don’t dislike it, Tyler. I really don’t. But, uh,

Sevan Matossian (28:24):

No, it’s just a, I mean it’s a bullshit theory. I’m just throwing something out there. But it does feel like, it feels like there’s some meat there,

John Young (28:29):

You know what I mean? I just feels like he was not dominant in the stuff. We’re accustomed to him being dominant in Yeah. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> and like, like Hopper, hopper has the ability to stick with him on stuff, but Hopper beat him like repeatedly, um, in workouts. He, last year at the games, nobody was close to him in certain things. And

Sevan Matossian (28:53):

I

John Young (28:53):

Wonder, uh,

Sevan Matossian (28:54):

I think we noticed something else outta Jason that we’ve not seen before too, which was he did not start off as hot as everybody else.

John Young (29:02):

So Hopper,

Sevan Matossian (29:04):

<laugh>, <laugh>, William Roland. So I’m asked John Young if Mad Magazine paid him. Well for those covers shots.

Sevan Matossian (29:14):

<laugh>. That’s a generational joke.

John Young (29:16):

Yeah, I don’t that one. Can you explain it to me please?

Sevan Matossian (29:18):

We didn’t look, we didn’t look, they have

Sevan Matossian (29:20):

A guy, they have a guy, uh, Alfred e Newman. He’s kind of their, he’s the main G over there. He’s, he’s the gangster over there. And, uh, you, he’s suggesting that maybe you <laugh>

John Young (29:34):

Gotcha.

Sevan Matossian (29:36):

You assholes.

Sevan Matossian (29:37):

But how do you go from God? That’s, that’s, people don’t think you, people think you look like a lot of people. That’s I know. There’s no way I can look like all of these people. No, but it is, uh, wow. That’s, that’s, that’s good. What was that, what was I saying John? Sorry. You said you thought Feasta golf was amazing and the, the Z-score treated or Well, that’s exactly what I thought.
