Born Primitive 24.3 Bryson Delmonte

Sevan Matossian (00:02):

Bam, we’re live. Welcome. We are minutes away from Bryson Delmonte doing 24.3. What an incredible show. Sidney Wells, Roman Koff, Jay Crouch, Ariel Lowen put on an amazing show back and forth in the leadership position. I don’t think anyone disappointed. Even Roman at the end there showed why he is a top competitor at the CrossFit game, Sidney Wells represented Jay Crouch killed within a nine 14, almost a minute. Lead over second place. Ariel came out very strong in the first, as Jocko would say, evolution and then imploded. The camera in the upper left hand corner is at Andy Hen’s gym CrossFit Charlotte, where Sentinel Training protege Bryson del Monte is preparing to go. You are watching the Seon podcast. This is the born primitive ca peptides pre-show. Tomorrow will be Taylor Self versus the world where you will see actually two of the very best in the world and maybe the very best in the world. Go head to head tomorrow. Well,

Andrew Hiller (01:06):

He’ll be the best

Sevan Matossian (01:08):

At four 30 Eastern standard time. Andrew Hiller, the least biased man in the business already calling the win for Colton Merton’s. No

Andrew Hiller (01:18):

One’s touching him. The relationship between man and iron is the ultimate metaphor for life. The iron doesn’t care how busy you are or how much sleep you’ve got. It offers no refuge to your excuses or your self pity. You only get what you earn. Three 15 is always three 15 just like life’s burdens. Some days the weight is going to feel heavier than others, but you still have to show up. You still have to put in the work because anything truly worthwhile in life requires hard work and sacrifice. No shortcuts, no handouts, no entitlements. People can make excuses all day long about why they aren’t successful. But let’s speak a hard truth. At the end of the day, the only one stopping you is you. So what’s it going to be? Born Primitive made for the modern Savage.

Sevan Matossian (03:07):

Everyone knows the best shoes in the business right now. Best CrossFit shoes are the Savage one. Born Primitive also has some amazing joggers. They got a new swim line out. Check them out@bornprimitive.com ca peptides.com. For those of you who want to play with peptides, head over there. Use code word Hiller or code word seon. These are the people who are providing the cash that flies in the likes of Do and Pepper. Jason Hopper and Colton Merton’s and gives them a place to put their head at night and little pockets sent cash for sandwiches. No, we did not give any money to Taylor. He’s just doing it for pride. In the lower left hand corner, you have John Young from JY Barbell, the senior analyst in the entire CrossFit space I used to say for the seven podcast, but he’s really hoarded himself out lately. Bill Grundler, former CrossFit games athlete, owner of CrossFit Inferno, one of the most knowledgeable people of all things CrossFit games.

(03:58):

Taylor Self, the ferocious man himself of Sentinel training home. That is his home gym. Andy Heel’s gym at CrossFit Charlotte where Bryson Delmonte will be performing the workout in just a few minutes. And then of course, center Square and the top is the man himself, the true influencer in the CrossFit space. Hiller fitt who also has an insane training program and maybe the most prolific person in the space except for me. Welcome to the show Taylor. How close are we to our superhero? Bryson Del Monte or not a superhero? He is more of a titan. He’s one level below. He’s not actually allowed in the Justice League yet. I

Taylor Self (04:36):

Think we’re about ready to go superhero.

Sevan Matossian (04:37):

He’s like one of the Wonder twins, you know what I mean? He’s not like Aquaman or nothing yet.

Taylor Self (04:43):

Okay, I think we’re ready. Ready ish. Maybe give 30 seconds. He just did a set of four like an idiot.

Sevan Matossian (04:49):

Before we go, I want to give you guys one second each. Tell me about Jay Crouch. Bill Grundler.

Bill Grundler (04:54):

He was fantastic. I think he was pacing himself off of Ariel. That came out extremely hot and even with that he was able to really compose himself on that back half and that’s really what it is. That first part’s the buy-in and how much much you going to have left of that back half.

Sevan Matossian (05:09):

Really quick, John Young, has your perception of the workout changed now that you’ve seen superstars like Ariel Lowen, Romanoff, Sidney Wells and Ariel Lowen do the workout?

Taylor Self (05:18):

No, I think everybody needs to break it up way more than they think, but no, my perception hasn’t changed.

Sevan Matossian (05:24):

Okay, we’re ready when you are Taylor. 15 minute time people.

Taylor Self (05:30):

Alright, the clock is out of frame. So Caleb, we can’t put anything up, can we? We can. All right.

Sevan Matossian (05:38):

Okay.

Taylor Self (05:40):

I can mine back here.

Sevan Matossian (05:43):

And then Taylor or Caleb, can you tell us or Taylor, can you tell us every time? Oh wow.

Taylor Self (05:48):

Okay, here we go. Look at that. That’s beautiful. Wow.

(05:50):

Caleb, I’m going to give you a 3, 2, 1 or are you just going to hit start at 3, 2, 1, go.

(05:55):

I’ll go off of your 3, 2, 1.

(05:57):

Alright, you ready? Starts with the thrusters, right? All right, and starting in 10 seconds. 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and go.

Sevan Matossian (06:18):

Now you guys know how

Taylor Self (06:19):

Valuable.

(06:21):

It’s okay. We can figure it out. It’s fine.

Sevan Matossian (06:24):

Now you guys know how valuable will Branstetter is to the show. I do want to tell you this. I want to tell you the workout, this is 24.3. It is 10 thrusters at 95 pounds, 10 chest bar pull-ups for five rounds. Then they get a one minute break and it is seven bar muscle ups. No, sorry, I apologize. Seven thrusters at 1 35, 7 bar muscle ups for another five rounds with a 15 minute time cap and Bryson is just coming out just as hot as the other guys.

Andrew Hiller (06:58):

I wouldn’t say just

Taylor Self (06:59):

As hot. I think fitness level relatively. Yes, Hillary.

Andrew Hiller (07:02):

Oh okay then yeah, you’re on

Taylor Self (07:04):

Relative to fitness level

Andrew Hiller (07:08):

That sure,

Taylor Self (07:09):

But Bryson Bryson’s good at these movements. He’s got a really good engine and gymnastics is probably his best thing, but I think I’m broken is a mistake in the first part but maybe it’s not. Maybe that’s great

Bill Grundler (07:24):

But look at that time that he’s doing that break that he’s taking in between on the transition, catching his way back

Taylor Self (07:29):

For elite, I think the elites need to take that transition

Bill Grundler (07:32):

A hundred percent, which

Taylor Self (07:33):

Means it’s too fast for him.

Andrew Hiller (07:37):

Robbie, what do you know repping him for? I’ve seen nothing. He’s fine.

Taylor Self (07:41):

Can we get the clock

Sevan Matossian (07:42):

Back that Bryson got? Nore?

Andrew Hiller (07:43):

I don’t know. Robbie just said no rep. Our

Taylor Self (07:46):

Clock

Andrew Hiller (07:47):

Clock disappeared. There’s there’s nothing wrong with what he’s doing. You kidding? Or

Sevan Matossian (07:51):

Taylor, can you update is starting round three. Round three for Bryson a five

Andrew Hiller (08:00):

As long Ason beat Troy. I think that’s going to happen.

Taylor Self (08:04):

Can you update us on the clock, Taylor?

(08:06):

Yeah. He’s a minute 50 in.

(08:08):

You see what I mean? He is already resting. He’s going too hot right now.

Sevan Matossian (08:14):

I’m not sure I

Taylor Self (08:14):

Understand this else.

(08:16):

I think he should break the chest bar up. Go six four.

Andrew Hiller (08:19):

Rich, I’m not sure

Sevan Matossian (08:21):

If I understand this question. What’s this question mean? Brock Adams does the one minute rest matter?

Andrew Hiller (08:27):

Are you going to recover at all during it is how I read this?

Taylor Self (08:29):

No. No it’s not. Honestly, it probably makes your grip, whatever muscles you’re using, fill up more before you go.

Andrew Hiller (08:38):

Right.

Taylor Self (08:40):

Deep breath and go

Sevan Matossian (08:41):

Julie Jones. It was a false start.

Taylor Self (08:44):

He’s fine. It

(08:45):

Wasn’t a false start. It

Bill Grundler (08:46):

Wasn’t a false start.

Taylor Self (08:47):

This is his last round, correct?

(08:49):

No, it’s round four. Three

Bill Grundler (08:51):

Four. Yeah dude, make him break. Make him cut it

Taylor Self (08:53):

Five. No.

(08:54):

Fuck that on the

Sevan Matossian (08:55):

Dude. Do you see? He’s already

Bill Grundler (08:57):

Hands on. His knees in breaking in between

Taylor Self (09:00):

Nine 10. Good.

Bill Grundler (09:04):

He’s like, no I’m not.

Taylor Self (09:05):

That’s fine. Two deep breaths. Three deep breaths. Exactly

(09:10):

What the gymnastics girl did in the first in announcement.

(09:15):

Hey, hey John, it’s thrusters and pull-ups bro. All right, shut up.

Andrew Hiller (09:17):

Here’s the thing about saying no rep every chance you get guys is it’s kind of like crying wolf if you say it every chance you get. It doesn’t mean anything when you actually say it.

Taylor Self (09:26):

3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 5.

Andrew Hiller (09:32):

But I like cross that I had to say 10.

Taylor Self (09:34):

The thing about breaking this first part up, if you have someone’s capacity like Bryson’s is it just takes so much more energy to stop and start a set of chest bar or stop and start a set of 10th thrusters. It’s like I think just take a little more rest in between sets like he’s doing and keep the rhythm there and go on broken. I don’t know. Come on last round. Let’s go.

Bill Grundler (09:53):

That was just a long break.

Taylor Self (09:56):

It’s going to

(09:57):

Hurt him in the second round

(09:58):

Is what we’re saying. How does it hurt him in the second round if he takes the break now he’s taking the same amount of rest. If he’s breaking up each movement, he’s just taking more prolonged before we’re going on broken. We’ll see,

Andrew Hiller (10:09):

I tell you what we’re going to see

Sevan Matossian (10:11):

Samantha H. Can somebody then confirm the weight of the bar that was used in the open announcement? Because the weights definitely looked over

Taylor Self (10:18):

Loaded. It was a shorty bar. It was a shorty bar. That’s why it looks like

Andrew Hiller (10:21):

That. One of the chicks neuromuscular or something. I heard a rumor about that. I don’t know if that’s accurate.

Taylor Self (10:27):

1, 2, 3.

Andrew Hiller (10:29):

There you go.

Taylor Self (10:29):

Four, five.

Sevan Matossian (10:31):

What’s the time?

Taylor Self (10:32):

6 7 4 17. Nine ten four eighteen. Five 18 You start, get that out of the way. Roll the 1 35 bar in. Come on.

(10:42):

So that’s not all that different from Roman.

Andrew Hiller (10:46):

Where’s that bro? In my head

Taylor Self (10:47):

Was Roman.

(10:48):

I’m going back right now but I think they’re like 20 seconds apart.

Sevan Matossian (10:52):

Iron Hog for the easy win tomorrow. John, shut up.

Andrew Hiller (10:58):

Did Seth Rowan give him that name? I’ve never heard that before. The

Taylor Self (11:00):

Iron Hog. The

Andrew Hiller (11:02):

Iron Hog.

Sevan Matossian (11:04):

That’s Colton’s nickname. Iron Hog. I like that better than Muscle Hamster.

Andrew Hiller (11:08):

I certainly like that better too.

Taylor Self (11:10):

28 seconds.

Sevan Matossian (11:14):

Go Bryson.

Taylor Self (11:15):

20

Sevan Matossian (11:16):

Seconds. Who are the other people in the gym? Taylor. Those are just people getting their class on.

Taylor Self (11:20):

Hey, I’m on crack. Taylor Roman was 3 22 10

(11:25):

Seconds.

Andrew Hiller (11:27):

Yeah, give it to Roman, Bryson, let’s go

Sevan Matossian (11:31):

John Young. Here’s a question for you for

Taylor Self (11:33):

That. 3, 2, 1, go.

Sevan Matossian (11:36):

John Young for the average Joe like me, no pun intended, any advice on the best way to approach this better to break up thrusters or try to hold on as much as possible? Same with Chester. Bars

Andrew Hiller (11:44):

Always break up the pole

Taylor Self (11:45):

For the average athlete, I would break both of them up. Six, four.

Andrew Hiller (11:49):

No, you don’t break up the barbell,

Taylor Self (11:52):

Just the average. The person, their lungs are going to hurt too is what I’m saying. You want to be as fresh as possible. Going to the second one.

(12:00):

Well he’s got about 10 minutes to finish this part so he should be good.

(12:04):

Well not I think he’s going to finish. Taylor, I’m not talking about Bryson. I don’t think Bryson’s the average athlete. I’m talking about people less fit than, oh,

(12:15):

Here we go. This is going to be telling

Sevan Matossian (12:17):

Where are you going? Dalton Ott. Colton will win this workout worldwide going two of three this year. Four,

Taylor Self (12:25):

Five,

Andrew Hiller (12:25):

Fool if he wins two

Taylor Self (12:27):

Worldwide, I think he’s going to

(12:30):

Seven. Fuck you guys. You don’t think I’m going to be Colton?

Sevan Matossian (12:33):

Yeah, that’s done. You’re

Andrew Hiller (12:34):

Going to kick until last week. I can’t put anything past you but the best I’m going to think is you’re going to tie him.

Taylor Self (12:42):

Wow, he’s got one round down. Took him a minute. That round took him a minute. I think going unbroken on the first set of seven thrusters was not the best move here but

Sevan Matossian (12:52):

Where are we on time?

Taylor Self (12:53):

He’s at 6 30, 7 38.

(12:55):

I think he’ll finish. It’s

(12:57):

Just going to take a lot. Hey, let’s go.

Sevan Matossian (13:03):

You’re yelling at a dog to get out out of the trash or something.

Andrew Hiller (13:07):

This is a Aran buy-in three. I always realize that four.

Taylor Self (13:11):

Oh, here we go. Hey, all right now the rest has got to be deliberate. Couple deep breaths, get three out of the way.

Andrew Hiller (13:19):

What are you doing? Resting in a squat.

Taylor Self (13:20):

Put your hands on the bar. Let’s go. Three reps go. Wow.

Sevan Matossian (13:27):

Bryon Del Monte has done the workout live every week here on the sev on podcast after the official open announcement.

Taylor Self (13:37):

Two, three. Alright, there’s seven roughly,

Sevan Matossian (13:43):

So he’s starting round two.

Taylor Self (13:45):

He’s on round two. Seven 30.

Sevan Matossian (13:50):

What about this? Sebastian Ye brings this up for the people who aren’t going to do it. Unbroken. The extra cleans hurt.

Taylor Self (13:56):

No they don’t. Not that way.

(13:58):

You still have to go into a squat. No, not at all. If you don’t think you can go unbroken like lungs wise, you should break up everything along. Let’s go like the thrusters too. I wouldn’t break up the thrusters but that’s just a different People are different. Athletes are different.

Andrew Hiller (14:17):

John Young is built different. He’s

Taylor Self (14:19):

First. No, it’s you know exactly what I’m

Andrew Hiller (14:23):

Saying. I know what you mean. John five,

Taylor Self (14:27):

Six. He needs to catch a little higher on the bar. Try to catch a little higher on the bar.

Sevan Matossian (14:34):

Ian Adams. Could you imagine just trying to work out and this bald dude with a handlebar mustache yells at you like a dog. You don’t have to imagine it. We’re watching it.

Taylor Self (14:43):

Shoo, shoo bitch.

Andrew Hiller (14:45):

This is his third round.

Taylor Self (14:47):

Yeah, starting round 3, 8 30. Let’s go

Andrew Hiller (14:50):

Sweet as time. Let’s go.

Taylor Self (14:53):

Dude,

(14:54):

You just got your go.

Sevan Matossian (14:58):

He ain’t going to finish.

Andrew Hiller (15:01):

No,

Taylor Self (15:02):

I think he’s going to still finish.

Andrew Hiller (15:03):

What time of the clock over there Taylor?

Taylor Self (15:06):

8 46.

(15:07):

He’s going to be fine.

Andrew Hiller (15:08):

I don’t know. He is been going in for three minutes and go and show it.

Taylor Self (15:11):

Hands back on it. Let’s go two, one go. Come on, get up.

Andrew Hiller (15:17):

Heat one app. Put it really well. Jason T. Watkins, if you don’t think you can go fast, go slower.

Sevan Matossian (15:25):

Wisdom hashtag wisdom

Andrew Hiller (15:32):

You. He should have worn a belt. That’s what I’m thinking. No, maybe he’s got one. Remember

Taylor Self (15:36):

There he just should have broke it up in the beginning. That’s it. No dude

Andrew Hiller (15:41):

Put a fricking belt on. It makes every thruster just a little bit easier. Dude’s out of his mind.

Sevan Matossian (15:48):

Lance kneading. Is Colton going to talk junk to Taylor during the one minute break?

Taylor Self (15:53):

He’s probably going to be doing a set of 1 35 thrusters.

Andrew Hiller (16:00):

Why wear a belt? Because it makes the thrusters easier.

Taylor Self (16:03):

Not really. I don’t think so.

(16:05):

I think it makes breathing harder though.

(16:10):

Come on

Sevan Matossian (16:11):

Mike. Halpin, the average CrossFit athlete needs to do what they can to get to bar muscle up. Break it all up if it

Taylor Self (16:17):

Means you

(16:18):

Hey, got to go. He broke the bar. Muscle ups. Come

(16:20):

On, let’s go. Three reps go

Andrew Hiller (16:22):

Using Fred Richie’s subscribers number as the me average. CrossFitter,

Taylor Self (16:27):

Let’s go. Come on

Sevan Matossian (16:37):

Sebastian n Hill. You think Jay Crouch’s vast improvements possible without juice. Listen, Jay Crouch is young.

Andrew Hiller (16:43):

Wasn’t he top 10 last year?

Taylor Self (16:45):

He was number nine.

Andrew Hiller (16:47):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (16:48):

Yeah, he’s young. Yeah, you

Taylor Self (16:50):

Got to go Bryson, you got to go.

(16:51):

He’s improved every single year so all I’m saying is so far I have not seen one person not blow up in this workout. Every person we’ve seen has blown up.

Sevan Matossian (17:09):

Jay got

Taylor Self (17:10):

Slow. Ariel got slow Roman, they all slowed down a lot when it got in that second round and Bryson got slow too.

(17:18):

10 seconds and then you’re back on the bar. Five seconds.

Sevan Matossian (17:22):

John K. Can we just agree Hiller’s sharing the league was like the best plot ever gets 86th then leaks their workout. God it made me happy. Hiller did not leak their workout.

Taylor Self (17:31):

Yes

Andrew Hiller (17:31):

I did.

Taylor Self (17:32):

They leaked their workout.

Sevan Matossian (17:34):

They leaked their workout and we all know 50 people who got a text thread with the workout and there were people who beat Hiller to the punch like Ben Smith and others. So Hiller did not leak the workout.

Andrew Hiller (17:47):

Hey, stop telling him I didn’t leak it, I leaked it.

Taylor Self (17:49):

Okay, fine. If Healer hacked headquarters and I did the workouts,

Andrew Hiller (17:57):

Are you guys stupid? I did hack.

Sevan Matossian (17:59):

Listen, it was a crowdsourcing publication more than it was a leak. That would be a more accurate way to describe it.

Taylor Self (18:06):

What’s he at Taylor?

(18:08):

He’s on his fourth set of bar muscle up. There’s one

(18:12):

Time wise

(18:12):

Two, he’s at 12 minutes. Three he’s going to finish.

(18:18):

Yeah, yeah.

(18:19):

Four quick rest and go.

Sevan Matossian (18:23):

He’s Where are we on time? 12,

Taylor Self (18:28):

10. What

Andrew Hiller (18:29):

The hell? Magnus Round. How do

Taylor Self (18:30):

You know I have an iPad? Get up and go.

Sevan Matossian (18:34):

What round are we in?

Taylor Self (18:35):

The fourth round. So he has one more set of thrusters and bar mu ups. After this round. I’m going to say 14.

(18:45):

Come on, let’s go

Sevan Matossian (18:47):

50. Alright,

Taylor Self (18:48):

Let’s go.

(18:49):

50 13, 52.

Andrew Hiller (18:54):

That’s probably the most

Sevan Matossian (18:56):

Shit. Taylor must be giving him the hard talk now. He muted himself.

Andrew Hiller (19:00):

He just had a bunch of Insanities. Wow, you got your streamy yard filter on. Nice job

Sevan Matossian (19:07):

Taylor. Where are we on time?

Taylor Self (19:09):

1252.

Sevan Matossian (19:10):

1252. Bryson del Monte starting his final round of 135 pound thrusters. He has to get through seven of these. I think he’s going to push through all of them. We’re not going to break here. Oh, we are going to break.

Andrew Hiller (19:26):

I would love to hear you as the live commentator. Just flip you for Lauren. Oh, always knocking a break. Oh,

Taylor Self (19:31):

He broke. Oh great.

Sevan Matossian (19:34):

Three more left for Bryson. This is going to be closed.

Taylor Self (19:38):

This is

Andrew Hiller (19:38):

Crazy

Taylor Self (19:39):

Dude. Cross lungs too. It’s not just capacity.

(19:45):

Come on.

(19:46):

It is way harder than people think because Bryson’s got a good engine.

Andrew Hiller (19:53):

Come

Sevan Matossian (19:53):

On. Are you saying there’s a correlation between the injury and there’s

Andrew Hiller (19:57):

A massive Reddit thread about frog grips destroying people’s hands. What’s

Taylor Self (20:00):

His time, Taylor?

(20:03):

1345.

(20:08):

Come on Bryson.

Sevan Matossian (20:10):

Five reps left. We’re at 14 minutes. Hold on. Four reps left.

Taylor Self (20:14):

Oh, Bryson, that was a terrible break too. He’s going 3, 2, 2.

Sevan Matossian (20:18):

Yeah, dude, look how stressed Taylor is. Look how stressed Taylor is. Taylor’s like if you fucking you’re not going to get them work

Taylor Self (20:23):

With

Sevan Matossian (20:23):

Me. He won’t finish.

Taylor Self (20:24):

He shoulda went four three. He shoulda have went four, three. That three two. Two was a terrible choice on that.

Sevan Matossian (20:30):

How many reps left?

Taylor Self (20:31):

Four reps.

Sevan Matossian (20:33):

What’s the time? Come on.

Taylor Self (20:34):

2, 14, 17. Come on. One more. One more.

Sevan Matossian (20:39):

Yeah. Boy, four.

Taylor Self (20:40):

Good job.

Sevan Matossian (20:41):

Nice, nice. Bryon Del Monte putting on a show again for the CrossFit. Charlotte born primitive sea of peptides, 24.3 open. Andy Hendle walks in. Doesn’t give a fuck that his boils down and now it doesn’t even look at him. Did he even say good job?

Taylor Self (21:02):

No, he said you suck.

Sevan Matossian (21:05):

Gets a high five from just a rando.

Andrew Hiller (21:07):

Taylor cold might blow up. No

Sevan Matossian (21:13):

Anything’s possible until you

Andrew Hiller (21:14):

Got a shot. Everybody’s blown up. That’s fair.

Sevan Matossian (21:19):

Once again, I want to tell you, did you see how slow, go ahead. Once again, I want to tell you what the workout is. It is 10 thrusters at 95 pounds, 10 chest bar pullups, five rounds, rest one minute, seven thrusters at 135 pounds, seven bar muscle-ups time cap at 15 minutes. Let’s hear from the man himself. Bryson Delmonte. What’s up buddy?

Taylor Self (21:41):

What up?

Sevan Matossian (21:42):

Tell us. Tell us nasty. Honestly, did the nastiness just set in just right away? Two minutes into the workout?

Taylor Self (21:49):

Yeah, I think that was pretty bad. I shipped my pants like 10 seconds before I started

Sevan Matossian (21:58):

A true underwear change, like a true underwear change.

Taylor Self (22:00):

Wow. Yeah, I’m going to have to change before I coach for sure.

Sevan Matossian (22:03):

So double. Do you come to work normally with three pairs of underwear?

Taylor Self (22:07):

Yeah, I bring clothes. I work out before I coach a lot.

Sevan Matossian (22:11):

What do you think caused the pantry? Do you think you just had this wobbly stomach, you knew you were going to do it in front of 2000 people or

Taylor Self (22:18):

I think that, but on top of this should be a good workout for me. Last week I was like, oh, this isn’t really a workout I’m good at so it doesn’t really matter what happens and I think I was just super nervous about that. It should be a good one for me.

Sevan Matossian (22:32):

What did you think when you saw the other guys do the workouts? Did your perception change?

Taylor Self (22:39):

No, I didn’t get to watch him do it. I was getting everything set up.

Sevan Matossian (22:45):

Bryson Delmonte, B-R-Y-S-O-N under Delmonte, D-E-L-M-O-N-T-E. He’s at CrossFit. Charlotte trainer with CrossFit, Charlotte Sentinel training and Taylor Self. He’s been testing the workouts for us. Oh, you just got a notification from Make Wads great again. I think he

Andrew Hiller (23:04):

Tagged me in something. You go follow a Bryce. He’s been kicking butt every week.

Sevan Matossian (23:10):

Yeah, go ahead.

Taylor Self (23:13):

Yeah. Last week Taylor, I heard you say that you would be able to beat me and I heard watch do not beat me.

Andrew Hiller (23:18):

So what’d you end up getting on that?

Taylor Self (23:23):

I got nine rounds plus 24, 240 meter.

Andrew Hiller (23:27):

Oh, you beat me by 90 meters. All right. All right.

Sevan Matossian (23:29):

Did you get any? No reps. Just now. Bryson, how did you feel on your reps? I mean you look good from what we were watching.

Taylor Self (23:35):

I’m not usually worried about that kind of thing. I feel like I moved pretty well, but I was just moving really slow.

Sevan Matossian (23:44):

You didn’t look like you’re moving slow and the one minute rest, what goes on in your mind during the one minute rest?

Taylor Self (23:53):

Just thinking about how your body feels. It wasn’t necessarily like my legs were pumped up or anything like that. It was just kind of total body weakness that you get from a Fran stimulus. It wasn’t like, oh, my quads aren’t going to be able to thrust to 1 35. It was like my whole body is like, damn, I’m really going to have to brace and thrust to 1 35. That sounds like it’s going to be really hard.

Sevan Matossian (24:16):

Hey, what is your friend time?

Taylor Self (24:19):

2 18, 2

Bill Grundler (24:21):

Eighteens. What did this feel like and did you feel like you went slow enough on that first half?

Taylor Self (24:28):

I think I went slow enough maybe. I don’t know. I mean today obviously I didn’t, but I think on a different day that would’ve been the right pace for me to do the first part at to not be super blown up for the second part, I just did not feel really good in that.

Sevan Matossian (24:48):

When boys sleep in a bed together, they have options. They can sleep, pull to pole, hold the hole or hold the hole as Renee Pape says, these two look like they sleep. Pull to hole.

Taylor Self (25:00):

Correct. Renee sleeps poll in her mouth. Hey, now you guys got to

Sevan Matossian (25:03):

Figure out who’s poll.

Taylor Self (25:05):

You guys got to figure out who’s polls and who’s hole. Renee runs rent poll.com. Dude,

Sevan Matossian (25:10):

Listen, listen. Renee’s fucking killing it. I’m very impressed. Renee, I changed my opinion about you. I’m make a little note here. Renee’s not a bitch. She’s good. What’s

Taylor Self (25:17):

Up with all these fuck faces talking shit about my sunglasses? These are $300 fucking sunglasses, dude.

Sevan Matossian (25:22):

White trash douche. You look like Heisenberg from Breaking Bad with it on. Okay, Bryson, let me ask you a serious question. Some of the commentators are pussies on this show. I don’t want to name their names, but they’re concerned it tomorrow that on Saturday and Kat there’s some front squats. Are you okay tomorrow doing some front squats?

Taylor Self (25:43):

Yeah. I don’t think this is like a quad soreness workout. I mean I could be wrong. Think about who’s taking class. Dumb shit, right?

Sevan Matossian (25:52):

Sentinel training is having an internal dispute now, right? Live on the

Taylor Self (25:57):

Aired about doing front squat. I’m not concerned about doing front squats tomorrow, but I think like, hey, there’s all these different functional movements. Why do you have to do thrusters and front squats on back-to-back days?

Sevan Matossian (26:09):

Okay, are you saying that Taylor, did Taylor just intimidate you?

Taylor Self (26:13):

No, but this is the same thing. I had the argument with the first two weeks. Yes, they’re a week apart, whatever. It’s not that doing deadlifts and dumbbell snatches in the same open makes it a bad open, but back to back weeks, it’s like you couldn’t have thought of just something else. Maybe do shoulder to overhead instead of deadlifts. Just something slightly different. It’s not like you guys aren’t creative and can’t come up with something like that, so I don’t think it makes it a bad open, but it’s kind of like, come on dude, just use your brain a little.

Sevan Matossian (26:42):

They need help. Delmont the fashionista who wears his shirts, 12 sizes too large is a star in the making says Jeremy, eat World. Also, there’s more comments here. We’re not supposed to talk about people’s apparel or their body, but here we go. Taylor wears his watch upside down.

Taylor Self (26:59):

Hey, my

Andrew Hiller (27:00):

Favorite is this one. Those glasses make you look like you listen to five Finger death punch and kick holding.

Taylor Self (27:08):

What’s a more aggressive fashion choice? My big shirts or chevon’s Long johns where you can see his little tuna cam flocking around. What’s more aggressive?

Sevan Matossian (27:18):

Oh my god. Hey, you have a girlfriend? Hey, do you have a girlfriend? Yeah. Okay. You

Taylor Self (27:24):

Asked him last.

Sevan Matossian (27:25):

I know. I just can’t believe it. I’m teching continuity in the answers Bill. So we’ve had a lot of opinions about this workout now we’ve seen a handful of people do it. Anything changed on your perception on whether it’s a good workout or bad workout in terms of just the programming? Is your perception changed?

Bill Grundler (27:42):

I like the workout. I think it’s a great workout. I just don’t think that it fits with whatever the last two workouts were. You got to get on one side of the line. Are we going it like a quarter workout? It’s super, super easy and everyone can play. Or are we actually going to go open a couple years ago where it’s like, okay, we’re going to test everybody and we’re going to gradually test everyone and we’re going to move the right people forward. Right People meaning the 25% moving

Sevan Matossian (28:06):

Forward. John Young, same question to you. Any thoughts about how this has changed just as a workout or in relationship at two, the other two workouts and being an open workout? Now that you’ve seen ’em do it? Because I know our opinions do change a lot. We’ll see the rogue programming or games programming and we’ll criticize it and then we see it executed and we’re like, holy shit. That was amazing.

Taylor Self (28:25):

Yeah. I think as far as what they’re testing, I’m glad that it is what it is, but it does, it’s just very inconsistent with the messaging. I just want consistent messaging on we need to expect this in the, open this in quarterfinals and not have a guessing game.

Sevan Matossian (28:44):

If I share a bed with Bryson, I wake up. Little spoon.

Taylor Self (28:49):

Yeah, we know this guy. This guy’s actually gay. Yeah,

Sevan Matossian (28:51):

Perfect. Well, there you go. Then he’s an expert. Andrew Hiller, thoughts on the overall open? Hey Caleb, can we do a poll? Now that we know the open, can we do a poll?

Taylor Self (29:02):

Pull the poll or pull the

Sevan Matossian (29:03):

Poll? Just a poll. Just a straight poll. Let’s just do a straight poll. Let’s do poll.

Taylor Self (29:07):

Poll.

Sevan Matossian (29:09):

Two choices. Open, good, open, bad.

Andrew Hiller (29:12):

Oh, this is a great comment.

Taylor Self (29:15):

Okay.

Sevan Matossian (29:15):

Oh, it’s from the fucking OG too. Yeah,

Andrew Hiller (29:18):

I better workout Would’ve been

Taylor Self (29:20):

Just more gated, more of a gated workout. So you have pullups in the beginning of your toes to bar or just wall balls and then it’s just, it graduates to chest to bar and then graduates to bar muscle ups, and you got to be fit to get there. What Taylor said, it starts with chest to bars. A lot of people are going to have 10 reps and that’s the end. Their workout. Yeah, that’s the That’s fine, that’s fine. But then don’t preach to me that everybody should be able to do the open the first two weeks. It’s just, I agree. Decide what you want. Preaching that’s important.
