#666 – Zelos Games Preview Show w/ Brian Friend & Andrew Hiller

Sevan Matossian (00:01):

Bam, we’re live. Why do you say that?

Brian Friend (00:04):

Cause in trying to prep for this, these aren’t aren’t games athletes for the most part. So the meaningful data set, a lot of ’em comes from semifinals. And when you’re look, you know, could look and say, Oh she got 14th at this semifinal, great. But since every semifinal had different workouts, when you’re trying to actually learn about where these athletes may do well or not do well, you wanna see, well okay she got 14th, but were there a couple workouts she was really good on, or one or two that she was terrible at. And then some of the workouts, it’s easy to find them <laugh> for some of the semi-finals. Others are difficult to find.

Sevan Matossian (00:46):

Jessica, good morning. Shit, take two. Jessica. Good evening vindicate. Good evening. Be good. Evening the shs. Good evening. Oh by the way, guys check out this guy’s Instagram account. He’s putting a lot of work in with graphics and fun stuff. It’s good stuff and occasionally he’ll send me stuff. We try to get it up. Hey, so it’s not as bad. The first thing I heard you say is now that it’s gonna be standardized, you can compare apples to apples. Not that you ever had to compare apples to oranges, but it was different variety of apples, right? It was still apples. But it’s like this semifinals has a running of an event that’s 22 minutes and this one has an event that’s 22 minutes, but they’re different. But you still had some crossover in that Venn diagram.

Brian Friend (01:29):

<laugh>. Yeah.

Andrew Hiller (01:32):

Look at

Sevan Matossian (01:32):

That thing. Oh shit dude. Am I, Is that good Brian or no?

Brian Friend (01:36):

What?

Sevan Matossian (01:38):

I said

Brian Friend (01:39):

Oh

Sevan Matossian (01:40):

Validate me or Unvalidated?

Brian Friend (01:41):

No, what I’m saying is instead of having six or seven or eight semifinal programs to know what they are, there are like 50, they had two each that were the same, but then each of the 10 semifinals had four unique ones. So you end up with dozens of workouts. So if I want to, I can look and see, oh this athlete did well on events one and five, but then I have to find out what were events one in five and in some cases you can just search and it’s pretty easy In some cases I have some spreadsheets that I made that make them easy to find. But a couple of ’em, I had to go on YouTube, search for the competition, go to the correct day, find the correct event, and then try to scroll around and find the workout description on the screen for YouTube.

Sevan Matossian (02:21):

You won’t rate the true benefits of this until 2024 because after the 2023 season is over.

Brian Friend (02:28):

Yeah

Sevan Matossian (02:30):

Watch this Brian. Watch this. Hi Andrew.

Andrew Hiller (02:32):

I totally thought you guys was having a conversation and then I realized it’s been live. I’m like good day. I didn’t say anything

Sevan Matossian (02:38):

Andrew. Hi.

Andrew Hiller (02:39):

Hi. Hi. What’s up?

Sevan Matossian (02:41):

How was your tanning bed

Andrew Hiller (02:43):

Today? Dude, these screens are orange. I swear to God I didn’t go tanning. Do I look red

Sevan Matossian (02:49):

<laugh>? Do you look red? You look like fucking Satan’s cousin

Andrew Hiller (02:53):

<laugh>. Look, the screens, they’re red. So now it’s red like pours off of the screen. The update of the computers. You did notice though, I gotta change the background to blue.

Sevan Matossian (03:06):

That’s fascinating. That means that everyone who podcast who has a background screen should find the There’s got, I bet you that’s somewhere on the internet where you could find the, I’ve noticed that too. My screens are all orange around. Me too. But I have a light that changes the temperature in here. Yeah, so someone should have,

Brian Friend (03:25):

Andrew, you haven’t received your temperature changing light in the mail yet. You’ve

Andrew Hiller (03:29):

Got one. I see

Sevan Matossian (03:29):

You got

Andrew Hiller (03:30):

Microphone there. I was gonna compliment you on how nice you sound in that thing.

Brian Friend (03:33):

It’s the same one I always have. I just got rid the beard so my voice is coming out a little bit

Andrew Hiller (03:39):

More clearly. That’s what it is. When I saw that video of you the other day talking to Mr. Ben Bergeron and you look good, clean, shaved and now we see most of it

Brian Friend (03:50):

Long time ago.

Sevan Matossian (03:52):

Just so you guys know, eventually today we are going to get into the zealous games. All of us are participating full steam ahead with 100% of our bean. We are serious as heart attacks. Andrew Hiller Will is really involves he’s actually helping bake the cake testing workouts going there and doing judging. He’s gonna get his hands dirty and Brian and I are gonna be in our usual roles critiquing, talking to he

Brian Friend (04:20):

Has no idea.

Sevan Matossian (04:21):

Analyze. I have no idea.

Brian Friend (04:23):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (04:24):

Analyzing what’s going on and it’s going to be a blast. Oh nice. Su nice. That’s

Andrew Hiller (04:31):

Cool.

Brian Friend (04:32):

SU’s here. We didn’t even get to say hi to him.

Sevan Matossian (04:36):

Sus

Brian Friend (04:36):

Much better.

Sevan Matossian (04:37):

Oh, he was about to say something. <laugh>,

Brian Friend (04:40):

Why? See him for a second.

Sevan Matossian (04:42):

There are 24 athletes going. We’ll we’ll get into that in a second. We’ll

Andrew Hiller (04:46):

Get into that. Yes, Paul will be there.

Sevan Matossian (04:47):

Oh, and

Andrew Hiller (04:48):

Ryan’s gonna be there too, right?

Sevan Matossian (04:49):

Why are you wearing a jacket?

Andrew Hiller (04:51):

Cause it’s freaking 40 degrees here.

Sevan Matossian (04:54):

Okay,

Andrew Hiller (04:55):

It’s cold.

Sevan Matossian (04:56):

Is that gonna be the new kind of you the seasonally you, you’ll be shirtless for six months of the year and then a jacket for six months or

Andrew Hiller (05:04):

No? I got a heater in here. It’s just for some reason I’m cold right now. Got no really bruising for it.

Sevan Matossian (05:09):

The first time I saw you wearing a shirt, I thought, oh shit, the TRTs giving them acne.

Andrew Hiller (05:14):

No, none.

Sevan Matossian (05:15):

None.

Andrew Hiller (05:15):

No, not thus far, at least,

Sevan Matossian (05:17):

Right?

Andrew Hiller (05:18):

What do you mean? The first time I wore I thought I wear a don’t wear a shirt every single time.

Sevan Matossian (05:22):

Hey, I got a little mental note in here of all one and a half times you’ve worn a shirt.

Andrew Hiller (05:27):

<laugh>, We’ve been on how many shows together? I think I’ve probably not worn a shirt. Five of them

Sevan Matossian (05:34):

Not worn a shirt.

Andrew Hiller (05:35):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (05:36):

Oh really? In my mind’s lie when I look at you, you’re always naked.

Andrew Hiller (05:39):

Oh, well that’s hot <laugh>.

Brian Friend (05:44):

I leave you too alone.

Sevan Matossian (05:46):

Thank you

Andrew Hiller (05:46):

Paul. Brian, you’re still here. <laugh>.

Sevan Matossian (05:49):

I have a little bit of house cleaning. I wanna do am as I prepare for podcasts, I watch other podcasts and what I do is I basically plagiarize off of them my shtick. So if you ask someone if another podcaster asks, Hey, why did you get married? And they said, Because I’m in love. Then I take that and I say, Well, can you define love for me? And I just try to drill down and go a little deeper in topics that other podcasters bring up that I find interesting.

Andrew Hiller (06:15):

Okay.

Sevan Matossian (06:15):

Unfortunately, I come across a lot of bad podcasts, but today I came across a fucking world class dumpster fire. And I don’t mean a dumpster fire like my interview with Laura Hvat or Haley Adams. Those still don’t hurt anyone’s brand. It’s just a fucking train wreck. And it’s funny and it’s a little uncomfortable, but they’re not bad for the brand. No one’s like, fuck that. Those people are idiots. It’s like, oh, that one didn’t go good. That was fun watching someone slip and fall on ice. There’s still brand value to it. Do you care

Andrew Hiller (06:47):

To share which they were?

Sevan Matossian (06:49):

No, I cannot because who’s

Andrew Hiller (06:51):

Being interviewed?

Sevan Matossian (06:53):

<laugh>. You need a pipe hill like a corn pipe. You put it in your mouth and start doing detective shit in the hat with a bill in the front in the back.

Andrew Hiller (07:04):

How long ago were they recorded

Sevan Matossian (07:06):

This thing? This thing? I’m one hour in and they’re, it’s gotten nothing from it. And the interviewer asked the interviewee, So what’s your favorite ice cream? Now listen, I don’t give a fuck what someone’s favorite ice cream is unless when you give it to your wife, she has fucking orgasms. I don’t want hear you be like, Oh

Sevan Matossian (07:29):

My Gods

Sevan Matossian (07:33):

Shut <laugh>. There’s just nothing. It’s just surface like, oh my God, I feel so good

Andrew Hiller (07:45):

You’re gonna do with my dad from today then, because I ask him what his favorite ice cream is.

Sevan Matossian (07:52):

Oh fuck me, <laugh>. Wait,

Andrew Hiller (07:54):

Wait,

Brian Friend (07:54):

Wait, wait. I think the, you’re about to tell us which ice cream will give a woman an orgasm. Is that what’s

Sevan Matossian (07:59):

About to happen? I’ll tell you off the air. I just can’t believe road, isn’t it? You’re one hour in and it’s not going well and just stop it. I actually thought, oh, I would actually like to do a podcast. Just try to make it horrible. You know what? And I realized today this was my takeaway. I used to think that the worst podcast you could have is when the interviewer and the person you’re interviewing feel uncomfortable and then the people watching it start to feel uncomfortable. No, there is a worse one when both the interviewer and interviewee are comfortable being morons. That’s a bad podcast. When’s your birthday? Oh my God. Are you Pisces?

Andrew Hiller (08:42):

Fuck me.

Sevan Matossian (08:46):

And really I’m just feeling sorry for myself cuz I’ve been researching now and I just wasted an hour preparing and it got me nowhere. How

Andrew Hiller (08:55):

Many good things did you take away?

Brian Friend (08:57):

<laugh> The fuck is going

Sevan Matossian (08:58):

On? None. I just need to see Susan smiling face.

Brian Friend (09:01):

That accent wasn’t bad. That 16 year old girl accent.

Sevan Matossian (09:04):

Oh my God. Oh thank you Brian. Oh my god,

Andrew Hiller (09:09):

You took nothing good away from an hour long podcast.

Sevan Matossian (09:12):

Dude, there’s 30 minutes still to go, bro. Bro,

Andrew Hiller (09:15):

You don’t have to finish it. What’s wrong with you?

Sevan Matossian (09:18):

I feel like I do.

Andrew Hiller (09:20):

All right.

Sevan Matossian (09:22):

Okay. What do you think about this? I wanna do a workout that’s gonna make people think I’m cool. They thought you were cool. So I came up with this. Okay,

Andrew Hiller (09:32):

Grace it. 2 26. Do

Sevan Matossian (09:34):

You think? Yeah. Do you? I should not say it cuz then 30 people are gonna do it. Like 30 16 year old girls are gonna do it and I’m gonna be fucked. It’s gonna be like seven.

Brian Friend (09:43):

What? These things happen spontaneously.

Sevan Matossian (09:46):

Okay, I’ll tell you guys off

Brian Friend (09:47):

The Yeah, force it. Remember the bike when we did six months ago?

Sevan Matossian (09:50):

Oh yeah, Yeah.

Brian Friend (09:51):

Just randomly did a workout. You did the workout, Andrew did the workout, then everyone did the work. We didn’t plan it. That

Andrew Hiller (09:56):

Was cool.

Sevan Matossian (09:57):

Okay. All right.

Andrew Hiller (09:59):

I do want whatever

Brian Friend (10:00):

It is, if you have the perfect idea, don’t let anyone know. Just put it out there.

Andrew Hiller (10:06):

Where does it involve or they give it away?

Brian Friend (10:09):

Corn pipe

Sevan Matossian (10:10):

Dumbbell snatches. Andrick muscle ups.

Andrew Hiller (10:13):

Oh, I don’t think you’ll find very many teenage girls who are gonna kick your butt then. Cuz you’re really good at those.

Sevan Matossian (10:19):

Yeah, I’m trying to do something to up my street cred

Brian Friend (10:23):

25 pound dumbbell snatch,

Sevan Matossian (10:25):

<laugh>

Andrew Hiller (10:26):

<laugh>. And we’re right back to getting his butt cage.

Sevan Matossian (10:29):

I ordered my 70 pound today, the 60. I destroyed the 60 yesterday just like I, It’s just owned it like a bitch.

Andrew Hiller (10:38):

Tommy Marque, Danny Spiegel interview.

Sevan Matossian (10:42):

I’m not, not saying anything but no, I act actually all those interviews that Tommy does, I get shit from all like 99

Brian Friend (10:49):

Was talking about the Halloween candy podium picks episode.

Andrew Hiller (10:53):

Yeah, I watched like 35 seconds of

Sevan Matossian (10:57):

That. Oh yeah. Yeah. I wouldn’t even, Yeah baby. Yeah baby. Yeah baby 10 burpees for time. Blow me Tyler

Andrew Hiller (11:06):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (11:11):

Zillow’s games. I truly God, it’s hard for me to say this. I’m truly getting excited. When I saw Andrea Nestler was gonna be there, I was like, oh shit. And when I interviewed Devin Kim today, I was like wow. And degos, by the way that Degos is really turned the corner in interviews. I mean the first interview with him was pretty good. He came out, him and Devin Kim came shot out of a cannon when I interviewed them this week. They made it so easy

Brian Friend (11:39):

On me. Did you get any other athletes this week?

Sevan Matossian (11:43):

I had someone I had Alex Gaza. So Alex Gaza’s interview, the first one I set the bar so high with her. The next one was like, the first one was a 10, the second one was a six. That’s not her fault

Brian Friend (11:56):

Is how many men have you had on so far?

Sevan Matossian (12:00):

Just

Andrew Hiller (12:00):

Matt,

Sevan Matossian (12:01):

I think. Yeah. Susan’s nodding his head yes.

Andrew Hiller (12:04):

You’re saying that she’s the opposite of Hopper where he set the bar so low that he gets better every time.

Sevan Matossian (12:09):

Yes. Yes. I think that’s fair. I think that’s totally fair.

Brian Friend (12:12):

We also gave him a ton of chances so he could And he was just taking one step at a time. Sometimes stepping his toe on the way up.

Sevan Matossian (12:18):

Maybe I’ll, I’ll send Hopper a text right now. Hopper,

Andrew Hiller (12:23):

You feel like, are you feeling like a five or a six today?

Sevan Matossian (12:26):

Yeah. I’m gonna put you on it to su what is going on with him? Are we gonna get him podcast

Andrew Hiller (12:33):

To do what? Just recently. Just at some point in the future. He’s not going to the Ellos games.

Sevan Matossian (12:38):

I know but

Brian Friend (12:38):

A friend of ours used to be a buddy on here.

Sevan Matossian (12:41):

<laugh>. He did used to be a buddy on here. <laugh>.

Andrew Hiller (12:44):

What happened?

Sevan Matossian (12:45):

We upgraded the Taylor. What’d you say?

Andrew Hiller (12:48):

Right Did

Brian Friend (12:49):

It’s like someone’s influenced his minds or decision making.

Sevan Matossian (12:54):

Okay, we missing

Brian Friend (12:55):

Though.

Sevan Matossian (12:56):

Let’s let’s say some of the fucking awesome people who are gonna be on there. Christine Coleen, brander, Savage and fun to look at

Andrew Hiller (13:10):

<laugh>.

Andrew Hiller (13:10):

Here we go.

Brian Friend (13:12):

You could say that about every one of them. I

Sevan Matossian (13:14):

Think you can but me, I just wanna make people, There’s

Andrew Hiller (13:17):

Not one person on the planet that isn’t fun to look at.

Sevan Matossian (13:21):

That’s

Andrew Hiller (13:22):

You. That’s like incredibly average for any reason. That’s

Sevan Matossian (13:25):

True.

Andrew Hiller (13:26):

Walk by. It’s like whatever.

Sevan Matossian (13:27):

That’s true. It is fun.

Andrew Hiller (13:28):

Jared Stevens is fun to look at. They’re both. Jared

Sevan Matossian (13:30):

Stevens is very fun to look at. I was actually thinking about that. If the two of them go out, it’s like must be like walking great Danes <laugh>. Or when I go out with my boys, it’s like everyone must just stare. God that’s a great go back to that shot of him in those pants with the belt and no shirt. Yeah, I don’t know what he’s doing there, but I’m getting pretty good man vibes from that. Pretty good.

Andrew Hiller (14:01):

I think you just killed a bear.

Sevan Matossian (14:03):

Look at coffee and a gun. <laugh> guns. Sorry Guns.

Andrew Hiller (14:13):

I think about what led up to that photograph. Alright, put this gun on. Walking through the door. You’re coming home from a day of work. Drink your coffee.

Sevan Matossian (14:23):

Andy’s got a little Sam dancer in them too. Look at those shorts. Hillary. Hillary, you got a little Sam dancer in you.

Andrew Hiller (14:32):

That’s a compliment.

Sevan Matossian (14:33):

It is. He’s

Andrew Hiller (14:34):

The man.

Sevan Matossian (14:35):

I agree. She did say something fantastic in the interview. I did watch today.

Andrew Hiller (14:43):

<laugh>. Oh, all right. Really quick. I’m gonna YouTube

Sevan Matossian (14:47):

Please. Hiller. Please don’t. Please.

Andrew Hiller (14:49):

I won’t. I won’t, I won’t. But everyone else will.

Sevan Matossian (14:54):

The interviewer asked her, what would you like to be known for your fam, by the way, she’s gonna be at the zealous games. What would you like to be known for? And she said, if you could be famous about, Oh no, no, no. Actually that’s not true. This in a previous podcast I watched with her before this one. I watched one the Clyde Dale people did with her and they made a really nice tight one. It’s like six minutes long and one of the questions they asked her is I think, what would you like to be known? If you could be famous, what would you like to be known for? I think it was that one. And she said, I would like to be known as a good person. And I was like, fuck, you’re cool. Your straight mom material.

Andrew Hiller (15:32):

Can you go to the private chat and see if I guess it

Sevan Matossian (15:35):

Right? Sure, I’d love to. Christine Cole brander. Matt Degos. Yes.

Andrew Hiller (15:40):

Ah, <laugh>.

Sevan Matossian (15:43):

Matt Degos Andrea Nestler, Devin Kim. So who else is gonna be there? Brian spout off some people or don’t?

Brian Friend (15:55):

Well we could just pull up the list.

Sevan Matossian (15:56):

Oh,

Andrew Hiller (15:57):

Do you have the list?

Brian Friend (15:58):

Yeah. Su has a link to the article I published today that has the current roster of athletes that’ll be competing there. It’s been changing quite a bit.

Sevan Matossian (16:08):

Let’s do that and we’ll test Brian’s like knowledge on people. We’ll just fucking put all the pressure on Brian right now.

Brian Friend (16:19):

<laugh>.

Sevan Matossian (16:20):

Okay could you make it just a little smaller? I wanna see how many total. 24. 12 and 12.

Brian Friend (16:28):

Yes. 12 and 12.

Sevan Matossian (16:30):

Okay. These are the cats who are gonna be here and Brian’s gonna tell us something about all of them. My god, Brian, good luck. Sorry. Sucks to be you. Brit Weiss.

Brian Friend (16:42):

Never heard of

Sevan Matossian (16:43):

Her.

Andrew Hiller (16:44):

<laugh> we’re up to a hot start. Not true.

Brian Friend (16:47):

Brittany Weiss, well she’s the highest ranking of any of these in the open this year, but she competed along with Devon Kim for CrossFit Invictus team, which were champions of the semifinals and podium at the cross games. They had an incredible season. She personally has been quite active in the off season in terms of online qualifiers. This is an invite event but she did also qualify for and I think she’s gonna be competing there and I’m not sure if some of the athletes are doing one division or two divisions, but I think she’ll be competing there in at least one division. I met Britney Weiss years ago actually when she qualified for regionals and was still training with Haley Adams. And if we’re just being super honest, she does not have the body type that lends itself to putting on a lot of muscle and strength. You crying?

Sevan Matossian (17:36):

What do you mean? Gimme an example for those like a Christie Ara or

Brian Friend (17:40):

What that No, no. She’s taller and she’s got long muscles and she’s just skinny by nature. But she’s worked

Andrew Hiller (17:45):

Fairly real sort of person,

Brian Friend (17:47):

Similar body type. But she’s worked really, really hard. I think that for her body type and I really admire this cuz I have a similar body type, not, I’m never gonna weigh 230 pounds no matter how hard I try to, I think

Sevan Matossian (18:00):

She’s done it. California hormones, Go ahead.

Brian Friend (18:02):

I don’t know. Anyway, I think she’s done really, really well in terms of her development over the last, I think that was five years ago that I met her and she’s been continuing to get better and she’s just really gritty. So I think she, she’ll do pretty well actually against this field.

Sevan Matossian (18:20):

Dude, the 30th fittest woman out of the worldwide open

Andrew Hiller (18:28):

And

Brian Friend (18:29):

Put more weight on that than 91st and the photo

Andrew Hiller (18:31):

Shoot this past weekend.

Sevan Matossian (18:32):

Say that again Hiller.

Andrew Hiller (18:34):

She was a in a noble photo shoot this past weekend. So they were said the film that Brian made have left out.

Sevan Matossian (18:41):

<laugh>, thanks.

Andrew Hiller (18:43):

Yep, there you go.

Sevan Matossian (18:48):

Brian, you were gonna ask, do I put more weight on that than 91st in the open? I don’t know, you tell me. In the quarter,

Brian Friend (18:53):

Quarter finals. Well, I mean I don’t know. It’s the opens three tests. The quarter finals is, was it five tests or six tests Andrew? Was it five or six

Andrew Hiller (19:03):

This year? Five.

Brian Friend (19:04):

Five. And there’s a better pool of athletes. Probably some of the athletes are putting a little bit more effort into the quarter finals than the semifinals and that’s a worldwide ranking. So specifically in Europe it’s difficult to make the top 60 because it’s half as many as North America gets and the caliber of athlete is better. So it’s a lot of European athletes that are putting a little lot of effort into the quarter finals cuz it’s make or break competition for them. So it’s not surprising that she might do a little bit worse in the quarter finals where it’s maybe a little heavier, which is not a strength of hers, but her work capacity which tests in the open is really, really good.

Sevan Matossian (19:44):

Can we see that list again? Su, She’s out of San Diego, she’s out of Invictus.

Brian Friend (19:52):

Mm-hmm <affirmative> used to live in North Carolina, moved out there a while ago. I think she’s been coaching at CrossFit Invictus for a few years and seems to have a really stable environment there personally and professionally.

Sevan Matossian (20:03):

Was third on the podium this year in the team competition behind Rich Mayhem and who took second Oslo? Impressive. Basically with Rich Gone, she’s a contender to

Brian Friend (20:18):

That. Oslo team’s gonna blow up too cuz Lena Richter has said she’s gonna compete individually. So they’re the top team that’s returning, that’s intending to return the same four members last year.

Sevan Matossian (20:27):

And Invictus the same thing.

Brian Friend (20:30):

Invictus, I’m saying no. Oh right. Oslo’s gonna at least have one change. We we’ll see. Invictus will bring back the same four. Of course the team, the vision has changed a little bit, but yeah, they’ll be amongst the contenders to potentially win depending on if one or two other teams maybe shows up

Sevan Matossian (20:46):

And that Invictus team will be better this year.

Brian Friend (20:49):

Especially because, well chemistry goes a long way in the team competition. So having a year, a really successful year under your belt will be huge. But also in particular, Devon Kim is still quite young and so she’s gonna be continuing to improve. I’m sure the others will too.

Sevan Matossian (21:06):

We are looking at the 12 women who will be competing on Saturday and Sunday at the Ellos games. We are going through the order in the order that they qualified for the quarter finals, basically where they ranked in the CrossFit Open number two maybe the biggest name on the list Andrea Nestler

Brian Friend (21:31):

And I think also the latest edition. There have been some athletes who’ve withdrawn quite recently and she was able to fill in for one of ’em, which was awesome. She certainly is immediately a contender in this competition and there’s a lot of people that have always thought why man, if Nester competed individual, she could place top 20, maybe even top 10 at the games. And we’ve seen her do some individual competitions. She’s had some podium finishes going back. She used to always compete in the Granite Games. She has competed in Dubai as an individual recently, so get to see her out there on the floor again and yeah, she’s extremely good. I don’t know if she’s top 10 in the world as an individual, but I think that she could very realistically make the games. Wait,

Andrew Hiller (22:14):

She’s got a pumpkin picture.

Brian Friend (22:17):

<laugh> top 10.

Andrew Hiller (22:18):

There we go. She’s winning the competition.

Sevan Matossian (22:26):

Beck Leach, $50. Incredibly generous, nice dogs. Thanks for the great content off season. Keep it coming. Also shout out to Brian Friend for the great article on Car Saunders and for Hill’s impromptu effort on heavy grace. You guys rock.

Andrew Hiller (22:41):

Nice dog. Brian, do you know where she finished? Oo or odd Dubai qualifier?

Brian Friend (22:47):

Yes sir. Sir,

Andrew Hiller (22:48):

Sir. Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (22:51):

Is she going this year?

Andrew Hiller (22:53):

52nd.

Brian Friend (22:55):

Oh didn’t she do that on the same weekend she was getting married?

Andrew Hiller (22:58):

Well that would explain that but I didn’t know that

Brian Friend (23:01):

Much. Yeah, I think it was was the same weekend or

Sevan Matossian (23:05):

One of the, Why is she going individual? Brian, when’s the last time we saw her compete individual somewhere. Why is she doing the Ellos games?

Brian Friend (23:10):

Well, I mean this is what the Ellos games is a unique event. This is not doing the Rogue Invitational. It’s not a 10 workout, four day beat down. This is four workouts over this is,

Sevan Matossian (23:27):

Oh, I’m so glad that whole thing was planned. What a stud she is.

Brian Friend (23:31):

This is four workouts over two days. There’s one longer workout and the rest of ’em are relatively short. This is almost like a training weekend simulation for these athletes with an opportunity to A, get some exposure on a live broadcast that international broadcast and B, to potentially earn a little bit of money.

Sevan Matossian (23:56):

But can you tell me why, when’s the last time she’s done an individual comp? Do you know?

Brian Friend (24:00):

I think last year,

Sevan Matossian (24:02):

Excuse

Andrew Hiller (24:03):

Me, did you know individual lot of Pza? Not too long ago.

Brian Friend (24:07):

I think last year. I’ll

Andrew Hiller (24:08):

Check it right now. Was it Waza because her and Taylor both went individual?

Brian Friend (24:12):

No, last year they were on the team. I think she might have competed individually with

Andrew Hiller (24:16):

Haley, right?

Brian Friend (24:18):

She was sixth and No, that’s 2020. I know,

Andrew Hiller (24:20):

I know. She’s done it recently, not too long ago.

Brian Friend (24:23):

Yeah, Dubai last year she was sixth Horvath Hol McGall Briggs from Missler. Sigman Sutter. But I think Guap should competed on the team with yeah, Missler and Hailey and they took second behind that team from Norway. I was

Sevan Matossian (24:38):

Blue so I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I was thinking about what I wanted to say next and wasn’t listening that that happens once every 237 shows. When was the last time she did Individuals?

Andrew Hiller (24:46):

That’s the second time you’ve said that to me.

Brian Friend (24:48):

Dubai last

Sevan Matossian (24:49):

Year. <laugh> Dubai in 2021.

Brian Friend (24:54):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (24:55):

And how did she place

Brian Friend (24:57):

<laugh>? She placed sixth.

Sevan Matossian (24:58):

Sixth, okay. Who beat her?

Brian Friend (25:01):

Me serious. I just said all of this, right?

Sevan Matossian (25:04):

No, okay. Sorry. I was thinking about something I wanted to say nice about Jared grave. Sorry. Here, here’s the thing. This Ellos games. Am I saying it right? Ellos.

Brian Friend (25:13):

I think it’s

Sevan Matossian (25:15):

Zelos. What Jared Grave is doing here is he’s putting on this event and the three people you’re looking at in about a half dozen more that I know and I’m sure it’s probably a hundred more. It reminds me so much of this podcast, it’s people contributing because they wanna contribute and everyone who’s gonna be there, who’s working the event is gonna be there because they wanna be there. And where are the, It’s very few places in the world that you see something like that. One place you do see something like that is inside of a CrossFit affiliate. Every single person in there pretty much wants to be there that you don’t see that at fucking McDonald’s. You don’t see that at fucking working at Amazon, you don’t see that working at Goldman Sachs. And so I really like this event and I’m so excited about it because everyone you see there is gonna be passionate, authentic, and vulnerable. It’s gonna be, I don’t know about the athletes can’t speak for them, but for the crew

Andrew Hiller (26:05):

Oh they’re vulnerable

Sevan Matossian (26:07):

<laugh>. Okay, so you’re not surprised to see her here, Brian, This is an uncharacteristic for her to take her hot rod out and swing it around a little bit and do individual.

Brian Friend (26:20):

Yeah, I think it’s fun for her very, I don’t think it’s a super stressful weekend and I think she has a great personality for stuff like this, so it, it’ll be fun to have her there and she’ll probably do very well.

Sevan Matossian (26:35):

Devon had her on the show this morning. She does wanna be an individual someday and she’s not shy to say it and she’s sharpening her tool by being on arguably the best team in the

Brian Friend (26:49):

World. I gonna say the best podcast.

Sevan Matossian (26:50):

Yeah, that too. Arguably we’re gonna see on the best team in 2023

Brian Friend (26:57):

Possibly. Yeah, I think that she’s intending to, their whole team is intending to do one more year the same team and then I think the year after that, at least her and Jorge will run individual. Joshua Chama is good enough to make a run for it in Europe, but I think he likes doing the teams and he’s seems to be living in and enjoying the time in the US right now. So I don’t know what he’ll necessarily do. And then Brittany’s the other person on that team. So yeah, I think that’s probably their plan.

Sevan Matossian (27:30):

How was she? 12?

Andrew Hiller (27:32):

Damn.

Brian Friend (27:33):

I think she’s 20.

Sevan Matossian (27:34):

She’s 20.

Andrew Hiller (27:35):

I know. I heard her say she’s been doing this for 70 years, so

Sevan Matossian (27:40):

Yeah, eight. She started when she was eight years. Eight years old. Yeah. Crazy. Started

Andrew Hiller (27:44):

When she was 12, now she’s 20.

Sevan Matossian (27:46):

What? This is off subject, but hor Jorge Fernandez is older than I thought.

Brian Friend (27:51):

Yeah, he’s like 29 or 30. He just doesn’t have a lot of experience in CrossFit.

Sevan Matossian (27:56):

Oh, I thought you were gonna say he just doesn’t have a lot of chest hair. Okay, well he better Jorge, I wanna see you go individual. Stop fucking around Alexis Johnson.

Brian Friend (28:06):

Alexis Johnson. Or

Andrew Hiller (28:08):

Was Miss Fit, right?

Brian Friend (28:11):

Yeah, she’s trained with Lot as Miss Fit athlete over the years. She also competed on a team. So the top four ranking athletes coming outta the open, all competed on teams this year in the CrossFit game season. Alexis was on the 27

Sevan Matossian (28:30):

Her age. Her age. Her age. Jorge Age. Sorry. Jorge’s J Jorge’s age. Sorry. Sorry.

Brian Friend (28:37):

He was aging him. My bad. We probably have it right here anyway. Well he’s not competing here anyway. What were we talking

Sevan Matossian (28:47):

About? Alexis Johnson. Oh

Brian Friend (28:49):

Yeah. Yeah. She competed across the MAM independence team this year with Angelo and Luke. She did do an individual competition. She took second place at Crash Crucible in early October, late November or late September which Luke Parker won that. So they had a very good showing there from their team. And again I think she’ll do pretty well here. I think definitely in the hunt for the podium at this competition.

Sevan Matossian (29:14):

And she was rocking the seeing glasses like Chandler Smith in one of those clean videos.

Brian Friend (29:21):

Yeah, she does occasionally work out with her glasses on.

Sevan Matossian (29:24):

Yes. All right. There was something in the comments here. Okay, so Tyler, thank you. Can you get the Zes broadcast schedule in the newsletter? Absolutely. I’m going to make a note of that right now.
