#651 – Rogue Invitational Event 1 Recap ft. Caity Henniger, Lazar Djukic, Barbell Spin

Sevan Matossian (00:02):

Bam. We’re live.

Mattew Souza (00:04):

Sevan Matossian (00:04):

What are you laughing at? What the fuck are you laughing at? <laugh> Uh, Taylor Self from smtp, uh, uh, Aspiring games athlete, uh, licking some wounds. Uh, Brian from the barbell spin back in action. Uh, the place for all your immediate news where we plagiarize all of our shit for competitions and then present it like our own. And Matthew, who’s the executive producer of the Saban podcast. Brian, what’s up dude? Good to meet you finally.

Brian (00:34):

Yeah, man. Good. Thanks for having me on.

Sevan Matossian (00:36):

Uh, exciting, uh, weekend, uh, Thursday started. We didn’t know a lot. Um, it was, it’s kind of fun because it puts everyone, um, I’m assuming Bill and Katie don’t mind, but it puts all of us kind of in scramble mode to try to figure out what’s going on. And it’s cool. It gives us, uh, something to do and gives us the ability to leak stuff out. Um, I was told that the athletes were told that if they leaked any information, not only would they be disqualified, well, if they leaked any information regarding event one that they would be disqualified from, uh, Rogue this year and for Eternity. Did any, did any other Oh,

Mattew Souza (01:13):

Shit. Didn’t hear that, but apparently a bunch of athletes leaked the leaderboard standing. So does that stand as leaking information?

Sevan Matossian (01:20):

No. No, I think it was just in regards. I think it was in regards to where, I think basically what they didn’t want is people to drive out to the ranch. Yeah.

Mattew Souza (01:28):

Their fucking house. No shit.

Sevan Matossian (01:30):

Yeah, it, So is that confirmed? Do we know, uh, Brian, have you heard anything about it actually being the, um, Henig’s Ranch?

Brian (01:36):

I don’t know. Um, I mean, obviously what, what Hiller said and you know, or in chalk, but I don’t, I don’t know exactly where they are. Okay. I know, I know they’re back at the, at the hotel now,

Sevan Matossian (01:48):

So. Oh, they are back at the hotel. Yes. Uh, feel free to jump in. Um, uh, okay, hold on. We already have a question for Brian. Uh, are you single <laugh>?

Mattew Souza (02:01):

Welcome to the

Sevan Matossian (02:02):

Show. <laugh>, uh, John Young, the other Brian. Um, did Devon say that Vindicate was giving away an L one for a qualifying purchase? Yeah, it’s, if you go to their site, it may have closed already, but go over there and check it out. You go over to Vindicate V, uh, here it is, V N D K a.com and it’s a shirt with a Greg Glassman coat quote on it, and he’s using the proceeds to send someone to an oh one, uh, change of life. Um, I heard that the name of the ranch was the Cyprus Mill Ranch. Uh, and it’s 37 miles out of Austin. They took buses there. It was a mass start for everyone, boys and girls at the same time. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I do that just to upset some of you. I purpose choose

Mattew Souza (02:49):

Boys and Mill Cypress Mill Ranch. <laugh>.

Sevan Matossian (02:52):

Mattew Souza (02:53):

Sevan Matossian (02:54):

Uh, the, does this sound, have you guys heard any, if you guys hear anything that you think might be inaccurate or if you just want to contest it? Uh, I’m open for that. Uh, 4.2 mile ruck. That’s the backpack that, with the weights in the back, uh, 30 pounds for men, 20 pounds for women, then

Brian (03:10):

1.2 miles.

Sevan Matossian (03:12):

How far?

Brian (03:13):

Sevan Matossian (03:14):

Oh, okay. 1.2

Brian (03:16):

4.2 total.

Sevan Matossian (03:18):

Thank you. Uh, at one point mile ruck, 30 pound for men, 20 pound for women. Then, uh, I guess they ditched the ruck and they ran a mile. And then, and then this is, this seems a little peculiar to me there. It’s just says three sandbags that were tossed over a hay bale. You guys heard? Is that what,

Mattew Souza (03:37):

Is that what it says in the event description?

Sevan Matossian (03:40):

That’s, no. Oh, is that what it says in the, is there a event description we have now?

Mattew Souza (03:44):

No, I’m asking that cause it doesn’t say that. So I know that’s what you’ve heard from reporting.

Brian (03:51):

It says three sandbags up and over.

Mattew Souza (03:53):

Sevan Matossian (03:54):

Where did you see, where do you, where you seen that Brian? On the Rogue site?

Brian (03:57):

It’s on the individual events. Yeah, right

Sevan Matossian (03:59):

There. Oh, okay. So they have it up. Okay. I didn’t even know

Mattew Souza (04:02):

That sandbags up and over. So you just have no real idea and over what that means, other than what people have kind of said they did.

Sevan Matossian (04:10):

Mattew Souza (04:11):

Which is toss a bunch of, a couple sandbags over a hay bale,

Sevan Matossian (04:15):

But that would seem of a little peculiar. Right.

Mattew Souza (04:17):

That to me, seems very peculiar. When I first read it, I thought maybe that’s like up and over a berm, like a carry up a steep hill and back. Um, kind of like the games event where they moved sandbags from one end of the tennis arena up the stairs, you know, move three sandbags up and over the berm. But apparently that’s not what took place.

Sevan Matossian (04:37):

Okay. Uh, I think shortly we will have Lizar, uh, Gik and Katie Henneger pop in the show, so we can get clarification from them. Uh, the, the, the bags were a hundred pound for the men, 70 pounds for the women, and then a two mile sprint. Mr. Gik.

Lazar Djukic (04:55):

Sevan Matossian (04:56):

Lazar Djukic (04:57):

What’s up guys?

Sevan Matossian (04:59):

Oh, man. Do we have questions for you?

Mattew Souza (05:00):

Can you tell us about the sandbags?

Sevan Matossian (05:03):

Mattew Souza (05:05):

Oh, you can’t say you can’t say anything, can you?

Lazar Djukic (05:07):

Well, like we, they told us if we, if something leaks from us.

Mattew Souza (05:12):

Yeah. Okay. Don’t say it. Yeah. How’s your ankle?

Lazar Djukic (05:16):

It, it’s actually good. It’s, uh, better than, uh, during the workout. Yeah. When it happened, I, I kind of rolled it inward, was on the downhill, and I had 15, 20, like hard steps downhill and, uh, like every step kind of, And, uh, I just stopped, started walking, people started passing me, and uh, at some point I was lost and there was no, uh, no point of doing more damage to myself. So I walked like four kilometers.

Sevan Matossian (05:56):

Um, uh, Lazar did that happen to you while you had the ruck on?

Lazar Djukic (06:00):

Sevan Matossian (06:01):

Yeah. Wow. And, and when they say you’re not allowed to give out any information, you’re not allowed to give out. That was that. I, I assume that was just prior to the event. Now that the event’s over, they’re still asking you to stay quiet.

Lazar Djukic (06:13):

Well, uh,

Sevan Matossian (06:14):

Are you’re playing it safe?

Lazar Djukic (06:15):

I, I, I, I don’t really know, but, um, I think it, it was supposed, we, we didn’t know anything about the event that we are supposed to do. Uh, so nothing could leak anyway, <laugh>, so, yeah. But, uh, I, I think it was, uh, uh, that, that was concerning the, like, warmup areas and, uh, like, uh, briefings and stuff. So I think now that we are done with the, with the workout, we can talk about it.

Sevan Matossian (06:47):

But, But you’re still playing it safe. You still don’t wanna talk about it?

Lazar Djukic (06:50):

Well, depend, depends on the question,

Sevan Matossian (06:53):

<laugh>. Okay. Can you tell me about the sandbags?

Lazar Djukic (06:56):

Yeah. Tell me.

Sevan Matossian (06:58):

Uh, no, you tell me. Like

Lazar Djukic (07:00):

What, what the

Sevan Matossian (07:01):

<laugh> what was the up and over. So, so what was, what is the, because in the, in the, in the, um, event description, it says, uh, three sandbags up and over. What does that mean? What did you guys have to do with the sandbags?

Lazar Djukic (07:12):

Well put it up on the ha bay Hale, push it over the Bay Hill. It’s like, I, I don’t really think that was important in the whole workout. It was just, Yeah, it was only

Sevan Matossian (07:25):

Lazar Djukic (07:25):

Reps. Just three reps? Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (07:27):

What was the point of that? I’m not sure I even understand it at all. I could understand if it was a 300 pound bag, but, but what’s, what’s going on? What, what was that about?

Lazar Djukic (07:34):

I don’t know. Maybe cool photos

Sevan Matossian (07:36):

Do something. Oh, okay. Okay. Uh, is it, is it, is it ac, is it accurate that there was a mass start? The boys and girls started together?

Lazar Djukic (07:46):

Sevan Matossian (07:48):

And, and how, and how was that? Did people come out hot?

Lazar Djukic (07:51):

Yeah, very hot <laugh>. I was one of the guys that started too hot, but, uh, it was okay. Like, girls were behind us and we were kind in front, so it was really no elbowing or, or anything, uh, sketchy.

Sevan Matossian (08:05):

Were you guys chipped?

Lazar Djukic (08:07):

Sevan Matossian (08:08):

Wow. Okay. Was there any media there?

Lazar Djukic (08:12):

Sevan Matossian (08:13):

Not even rogue camera guys.

Lazar Djukic (08:15):

There. There were rogue, rogue guys.

Sevan Matossian (08:17):

Okay. So just some, just some internal guys, but no one from the outside. Yeah. So you think eventually we will get to see some of this?

Lazar Djukic (08:25):

Yeah, they, they were drawn, they were drones, like all lot of drones.

Sevan Matossian (08:29):

Oh, cool. I

Lazar Djukic (08:30):

Love it. So probably you’re gonna see, uh, kind of highlights or something.

Sevan Matossian (08:34):

Who did, who does the briefings? Who did the briefing?

Lazar Djukic (08:37):

Oh, uh, or Rob. Rob, Low Lo. Rob Lowen. I, I, I would need to check on the last name, but her judge is Rob. He’s a Scottish guy.

Sevan Matossian (08:51):

Okay. And how did they have the trails marked?

Lazar Djukic (08:54):

Oh, it was super, super easy. Like, uh, they were gora uh, signs and they were like, uh, um, marks on the trees. And, uh, they were, uh, like the lines on the trees, like, like, uh, they were tied for three, one to another, so we can like, really follow the, the road, but it was super, super easy to follow.

Sevan Matossian (09:23):

Did you see this, is this from the ranch? Did you guys go underneath that in the bus? Yeah,

Lazar Djukic (09:28):

That, that was, uh, the finish line, actually.

Sevan Matossian (09:30):

Oh, awesome. Awesome. Awesome, awesome. Yeah,

Lazar Djukic (09:33):

It was cool.

Sevan Matossian (09:35):

Um, any other, uh, any other injuries, uh, besides you that you saw there?

Lazar Djukic (09:41):

Well, I hope this is not an injury. I hope it’s just a small step

Sevan Matossian (09:44):

Back. <laugh>. Okay. Oh, okay.

Lazar Djukic (09:46):

We gotta see tomorrow. We gonna see tomorrow. But, uh, right now it feels good. I, I can, uh, lean on it, like, it, it hurts a bit, but it’s not, uh, very painful. Uh, but no, no other injuries as I, I could see.

Sevan Matossian (10:00):

What place were you in when, when it happened?

Lazar Djukic (10:04):

Probably like fourth to four, maybe four fifth.

Sevan Matossian (10:08):

And could you see the guy who was in first?

Lazar Djukic (10:10):

Uh, yeah, Jason was in first. I, I, I could still see him, but, uh, <laugh>, Jeffery told us that he couldn’t see him because he was second Uhhuh and Jason was so much in front that he couldn’t see him at all.

Sevan Matossian (10:23):

Wow. Uh, did you expect that, um, Jason to be the guy at the front?

Lazar Djukic (10:27):

Well, I feel like it, it was, uh, it, it’s easier for the bigger guys to run with the Rock, and Jason is not a bad runner, so, uh, it’s, uh, it was kind of playing in his favor, but, uh, he took off on the, with, with the Rock, and he just kept his advantage on the, on the running without rock.

Sevan Matossian (10:46):

Okay. So he started off in first and he kept it the whole way

Lazar Djukic (10:50):

<laugh>. At one point we were on the uphill and he was behind me. So we started Ricky Roman, me and Jason was behind me. And at what one point I started walking uphill and he was pushing me on Rock,

Sevan Matossian (11:02):

<laugh>, <laugh>. What a good guy. What a good guy.

Lazar Djukic (11:06):

Have a history on running. Last time on the Capitol, I was behind him running and just drafting off. And he go, he tell me, Now you’re going front. I’m like, No. And he stops. He completely stops. So I can go in

Sevan Matossian (11:20):

Front. Oh, today he did that?

Lazar Djukic (11:22):

No, no. That, that happened

Sevan Matossian (11:24):

At the Capital? Yeah. Awesome. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Um, uh, so did you take last because of that? Yeah. Behind all the women and everything?

Lazar Djukic (11:34):

Behind all the women.

Sevan Matossian (11:37):

Um, if you wouldn’t have finished it, um, would you have been deed?

Lazar Djukic (11:43):

Probably, uh, they offered me to lift me up in the car, but I didn’t want, I didn’t want, like, I would rather finish last, last, then be picked up in the truck and go like, maybe not finish, maybe get got disqualified because of that. It’s the last place, but there is like nine more events. Right. So we’re gonna see what happens. I, I know I’m gonna send it really bad tomorrow on the Ski Gs Gsd Barma slot one. So we gonna see,

Sevan Matossian (12:14):

Um, you seem like you’re in a good head space. I don’t, I don’t sense any mourn from you?

Lazar Djukic (12:18):

Well, uh, shit happens, like you can’t really, uh, uh, do anything about it right now, except, uh, like try to fix it and, uh, be ready for tomorrow. So, uh, it, it’s okay. It’s okay. I’m, I’m really not worried. Like I, I told my girlfriend before I came here, uh, Rogue is one competition that I feel like, uh, whatever I do, it is fine because I, I don’t wanna feel pressure on every competition. I like, here, I came just to enjoy and then Dubai in a month, I’m going to win. So, uh, yeah,

Sevan Matossian (12:56):

<laugh> good. I like that. Um, do you have a history of ankle rolls?

Lazar Djukic (13:00):

No. No. This was the first one,

Sevan Matossian (13:02):

<laugh>. Um, do you remember exactly what, what happened? Like what you stepped on?

Lazar Djukic (13:07):

Uh, a rock, like, like, uh, steps, uh, from Big Rocks, and I stepped wrong on one and just like rolled it.

Sevan Matossian (13:19):

All right. I’m sorry to hear that. That sucks. I know you’re, I know you’re a huge, uh, fan favorite. Did you see, um, did you see is, did Danielle Brandon win for the women?

Lazar Djukic (13:29):

Yeah, she, I, I, I heard she won from all the guys, her and Hopper once, so, uh, yeah, she won for sure.

Sevan Matossian (13:39):

Any other, uh, uh, oh, thank you. Su Any other notable, um, things that you saw out there?

Lazar Djukic (13:47):

Well, Jeffrey, uh, took second. I think he was like, What the hell? Jeffrey had like, taking second on the run. Good job, man.

Sevan Matossian (13:55):

Because you didn’t expect that from him. He’s the strong guy.

Lazar Djukic (13:58):

Yeah. Yeah, he strong guy. I, I expected Roman to win this without, and he and me like to be, uh, like second or third and like this, this, this happens. So yeah. Good job for, uh, Jason and, and Jeffrey,

Sevan Matossian (14:16):

Did you see how Emma Lawson did? No. No. And, um, did they, did they give you any, what? Did they give you any idea of when the leaderboard would be updated or when the information would start going out to the public?

Lazar Djukic (14:29):

No. No.

Sevan Matossian (14:30):

Oh, okay. And there were no agents there? No one could, You were there by yourself? Yeah.

Lazar Djukic (14:34):

Only athletes. Which was, was okay.

Sevan Matossian (14:37):

Yeah. Uh, did they feed, did they feed you out there?

Lazar Djukic (14:41):

Uh, no, but, uh, the guys, like, when I rolled an ankle, uh, and I started walking and I was lost, uh, the car was behind me, the head judge and the volunteers and the guys who were, uh, on the trail were super helpful. Like, they were encouraging me, like, Let’s go. And, uh, Rob was, at one point he wanted to run and walk with me, <laugh>. So I’m like, No, man, it’s, it’s okay. Really. You don’t need to do that. So good. Very, very good job on the, on, on their part. Their like, I was very, very, uh, thankful to have them there because at some point I was like, like how you say, uh, when you walk on one leg and

Sevan Matossian (15:22):

The one limping? Limping,

Lazar Djukic (15:23):

Yeah. I was limping and there was like nobody around me and I, and they told us there was a wild wildlife around, and I was like, Mountain lion will will kill me if you see me like limping. So it was like scary at one point, but they, uh, they caught up to me and they were just following me with the truck. So

Sevan Matossian (15:40):

They’ve never eaten a Serbian man. <laugh>, it be their, it would be their first

Lazar Djukic (15:44):

I would fight for my life, but <laugh>, yeah, it would be nasty.

Sevan Matossian (15:48):

Did you see any wildlife out there? Did you see Turkey vultures circling, or snakes or coyotes or anything?

Lazar Djukic (15:54):

No. No. No.

Sevan Matossian (15:56):

Lazar Djukic (15:56):

They told us there, there was a giraffe on the, uh, ranch <laugh>.

Sevan Matossian (16:01):

Um, what about the, uh, facilities there? Did you see, I’ve seen pictures on bills, uh, Instagram before of the, um, gym there and of the kitchen, did you get to see any of that stuff? Did you guys go inside?

Lazar Djukic (16:12):

Well, we were, uh, where, uh, At the

Sevan Matossian (16:15):

Ranch. At the ranch? Yeah.

Lazar Djukic (16:16):

No, no, no, no. We were just, uh, in the open. We had some like bathroom toilets and that’s

Sevan Matossian (16:22):

It. You didn’t see any facilities, You didn’t see any buildings on the property?

Lazar Djukic (16:26):

We saw, saw some houses, but, uh, some houses, but, um, we didn’t like go inside or something.

Sevan Matossian (16:32):

Awesome. And, and proper

Lazar Djukic (16:35):

Huge, like, you need to drive like 10 minutes when you go inside the gate.

Sevan Matossian (16:40):

I, I, I think I saw that the ranch is 715 acres

Lazar Djukic (16:44):

And I don’t know how much is it, but it’s like very big property.

Sevan Matossian (16:49):

How, how many people were there altogether? Do you have an idea where there are a hundred people there where there’s many staff there as there were athletes?

Lazar Djukic (16:55):

There were 40, uh, guys on the trail. Uh, so 40 volunteers and, uh, probably 20, 30 more, uh, on the finish line.

Mattew Souza (17:11):

La do you know which ranch you were at? Were you, a lot of people are saying you guys were at the Go Rock Ranch?

Lazar Djukic (17:18):

Uh, it’s, uh, I’m, I’m gonna tell you, I hope you, you don’t lose me, but, uh, Si Mill, I’m gonna tell you. Uh, Cypress

Sevan Matossian (17:28):

Lazar Djukic (17:29):

Yep, that one. Okay. That, that’s,

Sevan Matossian (17:34):

Uh, and, and regarding your ankle, what makes you think that you’re gonna be able to go tomorrow? It’s, it’s feeling better as time goes on.

Lazar Djukic (17:42):

Uh, well, after like, uh, 10 minutes of walking, I started feeling good, just like it, it was hurting when I step on it, but it’s like not terrible. So, and it’s still not, uh, very, uh, like swollen ju just the small, small part on the inner side. So I, I think it’s gonna be good if I like go ice it now, floss it, and, uh, put Zi tape on it. So I, I feel it’s gonna be good. I’m just scared about the bo jumps. I hope his step down is allowed. So,

Sevan Matossian (18:14):

Um, uh, there, there was a story that came out that te LO’s son, uh, was hospitalized and that he might not make it. Did you see him at the event?

Lazar Djukic (18:22):

Yes. Scott was there and I asked him yesterday about his son. His son is good now, and he made it Oh, good. To the briefing and to check for the checking, so yeah.

Sevan Matossian (18:33):

Yeah, information that I stole from the barbell spin, by the way,

Brian (18:37):

<laugh> great.

Sevan Matossian (18:39):

Uh, all right. Uh, thank you Lazer. I really appreciate you taking time. I know it’s in the middle of the, of the, uh, events and it’s awesome to see you. And, uh, we’ll be bugging you throughout the week. You demand. Thanks for coming on.

Lazar Djukic (18:50):

Thank you. See you guys. Bye.

Sevan Matossian (18:52):

Cheers. Bye-Bye. So, I, I, I think we, we have the puzzle pretty much put together. We just need to see the standings. Now, is there a rogue leaderboard? Su

Mattew Souza (19:03):

I don’t think anything’s up yet.

Mattew Souza (19:05):

No. Nothing yet to keep refreshing it, to keep an eye on it and I’ll

Brian (19:09):

Up. They just, they just put it up.

Mattew Souza (19:11):

Oh, right now. Oh,

Mattew Souza (19:13):

Keep moving my computer around. Cause I’m right next to a door on,

Sevan Matossian (19:16):

On the rogue site,

Brian (19:17):

Right? Yeah, yeah. The road leaderboard there it is. Literally just came up

Sevan Matossian (19:22):

As, as far as bad news goes. That’s probably the worst news that Lara rolled his ankle, but also Olivia Kier took last place. I guess someone has to take last place, but, um, that’s also a tough start for her. This is her, uh, coming out party for professional competitions. Okay. The male leaderboard. Jason Hopper, First Jeffrey Adler, second. Ricky Gerard third. I had been reported earlier that it was Roman who took third. Uh, Roman takes fourth. Justin Maderas, the champ, the fittest man in the world takes fifth Chandler Smith bor, uh, Carl Goodmanson. Seventh, eighth Saxon Panche, ninth Noah. Wow. Hat,

Mattew Souza (19:58):

That’s surprising.

Sevan Matossian (19:59):

10th Patrick Venner. Why? And why is that, Taylor, why is that surprising?

Mattew Souza (20:02):

I just would’ve expected him a little bit higher on something like that.

Brian (20:06):

Uh, he’s not been running though since the games, for whatever reason, taking break. So,

Sevan Matossian (20:12):

Uh, Scott, uh, 11th Col. Sager 12th, Scott Telo 13th. Um, the former, uh, youth competitor to CrossFit Games. Jo Hernandez 14th, Nick Matthews, 15th Hendrick, Halo Halinan, uh, 16th Samwell Quant 17th. Tim Paulson, 18th Yona Koski. Is that a surprise? Yona Koski. I think of him as an endurance guy.

Mattew Souza (20:37):

Mattew Souza (20:39):

I think the last couple times were a little surprising considering Asar sprained his ankle and they’re only 10 minutes faster on a four mile run.

Sevan Matossian (20:47):

Yeah, that is, that is trippy. Right? So Jack Farlow is in 19th with the time of 40 minutes and 29 seconds and 10 minutes and 20 seconds later, 10 minutes and 13 seconds later is Laz Juki. So he was about one month.

Mattew Souza (21:00):

Yeah. Look at the discrepancy between, Sorry,

Sevan Matossian (21:04):

Let’s look at the speed of first place. Uh, while Taylor, uh, deals with does some crowd control, the time for Jason Hopper was 31 minutes and 27 seconds, and Jack Farlow came in 40 minutes and 29 seconds. So was that, was that 10 minutes? Nine and a half minutes. Nine and a half minutes after him. So that’s basically a mile, right?

Mattew Souza (21:32):

A 10 minute is,

Sevan Matossian (21:33):

Yeah, they’re basically doing 10 minute miles. If you just, uh, scratch the, uh, the sandbag. How long do you think that sandbag, uh, piece took? One minute.

Mattew Souza (21:43):

Um, no, three sandbag up and overs. 10 seconds.

Sevan Matossian (21:47):

Okay. 10 seconds. Okay, so we can’t scratch it. Uh, Taylor is going to punch someone in the dick. I don’t know why there, but, um, <laugh>, whatever needs to happen needs to happen. Who, uh, Jeff Beko, I bet any takes $1,000. That Maderas does not win 2023 CrossFit games. He’s already back on the hopper train. Oh. What, Brian, what do you think when you see this? Um, are you getting, uh, good hopper vibes? Are you like, Oh shit, he really is the real deal. We’re getting some, What was the Granite Games that he swept that one year? Was it the Gran or the Mac? It,

Brian (22:21):

Yeah, I mean, I, he’s, he’s, I expect him to be up here. Um, maybe not win it. Um, I still like Adler though, um, with the rest of the workouts that are in, in place. So, um, I mean, he did well on the capital, I believe. So

Sevan Matossian (22:37):

How did he do on the capital? Uh, Taylor is the, um, is the Jason Hopper hype real? We just expected too much too soon.

Mattew Souza (22:45):

Um, it’s a long weekend.

Sevan Matossian (22:48):

Okay. Uh, uh, good friend of, uh, Jason Hopper. Still can’t get behind him. Hopper is drinking the h w o juice. I, I think maybe that’s a typo.

Mattew Souza (23:00):

The h wop

Sevan Matossian (23:02):

<laugh>, uh, going, going to Jeffrey Adler. Why the, why the surprise on Adler? Has he been not, is it just because he’s a strong guy or He is been notorious not to finish in the top, uh, in, in, in running events.

Brian (23:16):

I mean, he, he, he got sixth on the Capitol right behind Hopper, I guess. You know, you just don’t think of him as, as his strong suit. You just think of him as a, a strength athlete that’s gonna, um, you know, win events like the shuttle, the overhead B, um, but I think he has bigger engine than what we may just kind of put ’em into that category.

Sevan Matossian (23:37):

And, and in 14 of these guys are from the top 15 at the CrossFit games, right?

Brian (23:43):

Sevan Matossian (23:44):

And it is kind of weird because you think Hadler would’ve done better at the capital event than this event since it was a little more mixed modality. He got to do the run and then show off some of his strength.

Brian (23:54):

Yeah. Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (23:57):

Uh, so training, So training works. Taylor, you think that’s just, that’s just training. Uh, Taylor’s in a noisy place. He’s muted himself. Oh my goodness. Jeff Beko. Wow. Maderas has lost the eye of the tiger. Harsh.

Mattew Souza (24:15):

It’s been one event. <laugh>. Yeah, I, one, I agree with Susan to, I think different athletes work on different things at different points in the season. And Jeff is a notoriously strong guy, so I’m sure he’s potentially been doing a little bit of running. Um, but just to reiterate, it’s been one event.

Brian (24:35):

<laugh>, I mean, I think the biggest surprise is quant, honestly. Um,

Mattew Souza (24:40):

Brian (24:41):

If you look at, if you look at the capital, Ricky Roman, then Samuel was in fourth. I’ll skip Travis cuz he’s not in this. Followed by Hopper Adler Maderas in eighth and Kwans all the way down in 16th in this event. So

Mattew Souza (24:59):

I guess the reason that doesn’t surprise me is because he’s been so inconsistent.

Sevan Matossian (25:03):

I I, it, it would be interesting to see a leaderboard for who finished the run first at the capital to see where Sam Well, you said he took fourth there, Brian?

Brian (25:14):

Sevan Matossian (25:15):

Yeah. That’s amazing. I wonder how many people he passed on the farmer carry and then up the stairs.

Brian (25:23):

I, I don’t know. I mean, I, it’s, I mean, I can’t imagine he passed Hopper Adler on that. I mean, Vineo was seventh, Maderas was eighth, so you gotta imagine that he was pretty similar.

Sevan Matossian (25:36):

Uh, Jeff Beko. Ellie is draining his power. I think that’s, uh, yeah,

Mattew Souza (25:41):

Sevan Matossian (25:41):

Not true. Uh, yeah, that’s not, um, well, maybe a little true. Uh, who is the fake Bryan? Uh, the fake Brian is Brian from Barbell Spin. Um, and he’s now the real Brian. Okay, let’s look at the women’s leaderboard. Thank you. Spiegel. Only because you gimme 1999. Uh, every show, The 20, 20, 30 toes to bar at 1.5 mile is better thing to take from. Oh, in terms of, uh, checking, comparing the two.

Mattew Souza (26:19):

Hey Brian, do you know where Bailey Rogers is from?

Brian (26:22):

She’s from Australia. Yeah. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, she just missed out on the semi-final.

Mattew Souza (26:26):

So impressive.

Sevan Matossian (26:28):

Uh, first place. Danielle, Brandon. I wanna say, did I pick her last night or did I pick Laura? I picked Laura, I think.

Mattew Souza (26:33):

No, you picked, you picked Olivia, Kris Stutterer.

Sevan Matossian (26:36):

Oh, did I? Uh, Daniel Brandon, first place. Uh, Bailey. Rogers second place. Uh, Gabriela, uh, she was the favorite going into this. A lot of people had picked her, uh, to be in first. She did quite well. Third place, Matilda Gars. Fourth, Emma Lawson, Fifth place. Let’s keep going. Uh, sixth place. Jacqueline Dahlstrom. Seventh place. Annie Thor’s daughter. Uh, eighth Place. Emma McQuaid. A ninth place. Laura Hvat. 10th place. Andrea Solberg. 11th place. Ariel Lowen. 12th Place. Ellie Turner. 13th Place. Alexis Rist. 14th place. Amanda Barnhart. 15th place. Manon. Anies. Here we go. Katie. Hi.

Caity Henniger (27:22):

What’s up? Can you hear me?

Sevan Matossian (27:23):

Oh, perfect. It started.

Caity Henniger (27:27):

It started.

Sevan Matossian (27:28):

Uh, how, how did you sleep last night?

Caity Henniger (27:31):

I didn’t sleep much. I was so excited.

Sevan Matossian (27:33):

No. Is it cuz you’re excited or nervous?

Caity Henniger (27:36):

A little bit of both, but I think that’s a good mix.

Sevan Matossian (27:38):

Yeah, totally. Uh, were you out at the venue this morning at the run? Yes. Yep. And, um, was that at your guys’ ranch or was that the Go Ruck ranch?

Caity Henniger (27:47):

It was at our ranch. Don’t believe everything you

Sevan Matossian (27:50):

Read. Don’t. Okay, good. I won’t, I won’t, I will only, I don’t believe anything I read <laugh>. Uh, how long did you guys know you were gonna do that event at your ranch?

Caity Henniger (27:59):

Uh, we’ve wanted to do it for the last two years and just couldn’t pull it off last year. Uh, so this year made sense. So we’ve been planning on it all year. Started working the trail about three months ago,

Sevan Matossian (28:10):

And, uh, everything goes planned.

Caity Henniger (28:11):

Absolutely. It was, the athletes did their job and they, they <laugh> they made it perfect.

Sevan Matossian (28:17):

Uh, are you surprised by the times?

Caity Henniger (28:19):

No, we thought, we thought 32. So he beat our time.

Sevan Matossian (28:22):

Oh. And, uh, La Gage’s, uh, in injury, uh, what do you think is, does he look good for tomorrow? We had him on here and he’s hoping he can come to come in tomorrow.

Caity Henniger (28:32):

Is that what he said? Yeah. Um, I, that’s what he, that’s what he said to me. Uh, when he left, I, I’ll give it to him. He finished the course. Uh, we gave him the option to not, um, but he wanted to finish. And, and I always appreciate when an athlete wants to, to finish and, uh, finish the event.

Sevan Matossian (28:48):

Um, he said that a, uh, you know, a a a carriage came up behind him and offered him a ride, and he said no way. If he would’ve got in that carriage, would that have been it for him?

Caity Henniger (28:59):

Sevan Matossian (28:59):

He could have gone on.

Caity Henniger (29:01):

Sevan Matossian (29:02):

Awesome. And he, he also commended your team. He said that they were there cheering him on. Um, they did warn him of a possibility of being eaten by some mountain lions, uh, because he was limping. So he said he quickly stopped limping.

Caity Henniger (29:14):

Oh yeah, he, he finished strong.

Sevan Matossian (29:17):

Um, Katie, what’s the, there’s this, all this talk that, um, the CrossFit games are supposed to, um, find the fittest person and that, uh, Rogue has its own nuance. Dubai has its own nuance. Guus has its own nuance. And do you have any thoughts on that? Are you guys trying to pick the fittest when you guys do the programming? What’s, what’s on your mind?

Caity Henniger (29:37):

No, that, you know, the games is trying to find the fittest. And this is an invitational for a reason. We want to showcase the athletes. We obviously want to have a good, well-rounded weekend of programming, which we are, we’re really excited about the, the workout for this, this event. Um, but that’s really our goal. It’s all about the athletes. We want them to, we wanna put ’em in a place to, to put on a show for the crowd and, and those watching on the live stream and.
