#551 – Arielle Loewen

Listen now

Sevan Matossian (00:01):

Bam we’re live. Yeah. I, I, I don’t take it as he’s he’s bitching at all. It’s it? This is actually pro of all the games posts I’ve ever seen. This is the most interesting. This is the coolest one I’ve ever seen. I mean, I read the whole fucking thing. I wanna ask Ariel about it. <laugh> it’s like, it kind of feels like, um, you know, when someone goes to jail and then you have all these questions for ’em, what did you eat? Did someone touch your anus? What did the toilet paper feel like? Just kind of shit like that. Hey, good morning, beaver. Um, uh, it’s kind of like that he, he, these are all the things as a fan that I would want to see. It’s it’s it’s it’s bro. It’s uh, Brian’s it’s Matt’s fault. Cause I, I showed him this post and he started talking about it and I’m like, there’s no fucking way. We’re gonna talk about this without people hearing. Hey, go. What’s up?

Arielle Loewen (00:54):

Hey what’s how are you?

Sevan Matossian (00:55):

Good. Is that you’re at your friend’s house?

Arielle Loewen (00:57):

I’m at my sister’s house.

Sevan Matossian (00:59):

Yeah.

Arielle Loewen (01:00):

Yeah. She’s got the good wifi. Damn,

Sevan Matossian (01:02):

Your, your connection’s good.

Arielle Loewen (01:05):

Good. I had to redeem myself. It was, it was bad last time.

Sevan Matossian (01:09):

<laugh> I, I, I wanna show Ariel that post in a, um, in a, in a, in a minute don’t don’t lose that. I thought it was a great post. Um, I was I’m uh, for Kowski made a really cool post.

Arielle Loewen (01:22):

Was it the one where he said, what was your favorite moment from the games? And all these people commented?

Sevan Matossian (01:27):

Um, it, it was, it was he’s talking about the crossover event.

Arielle Loewen (01:32):

Oh no, I didn’t

Sevan Matossian (01:33):

See it. And like, oh, and, and like you kind, and then he gives you like 20 perspectives or experiences people had with the crossover event. And then, but, but some of them are so good and so funny, but, but it’s kind of like, it’s all this stuff as a fan, you want you’d wanna know like, who was back there? Like he goes some, you know, like someone was back there crying, but he doesn’t tell you who <laugh>, but then like you have to like, I, and it kind of inspired this other thought. I was imagining all of the athletes, like Ima pick like 10 girls, um, who are in the CrossFit games. And then on the other side, what would they be doing if they didn’t do CrossFit? And then you just got to draw a line across to ’em, you know, mm-hmm, <affirmative> like mowing yards porn,

Arielle Loewen (02:13):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (02:14):

Writing cookbooks. You know what I mean? And you like you.

Arielle Loewen (02:18):

That’s great. Well, funny thing about that

Sevan Matossian (02:20):

About someone would have their feelings hurt for sure.

Arielle Loewen (02:22):

Oh yeah. So when they briefed that event, you know how we’re all on the Coliseum? Yeah. Usually when the

Sevan Matossian (02:28):

Demo, no, actually I don’t know. But now I do, yes.

Arielle Loewen (02:31):

<laugh> I’ll break it down for you please. We’re on the Coliseum. Usually from the demo team, one athlete will show the event. So like Griffin showed us the strong man event with yolk. He did all of it. Okay. Um, with that event they needed three different demo team athletes to show each movement. Oh, I don’t know if that was strategic, but it was like, oh, ally scuds does the peg board piece ofoff did the jump rope street Horner did the Presta handstand. Wow. So we saw that. We all knew like, okay, this is gonna be a little difficult.

Sevan Matossian (03:04):

Did you were any other events, um, split up like that? Like did you like, uh, how about that run jerk did the same person who did the run do the, the, the shuttle run jerk. Same person did it.

Arielle Loewen (03:13):

Yeah. Same person.

Sevan Matossian (03:15):

<laugh> Hey, I don’t know if this is true. I need to ask Adrian this, but I heard they brought in street Horner cuz none of those other knuckleheads could do it.

Arielle Loewen (03:24):

<laugh> you know, what’s funny about street, which I don’t know him personally, but when he was demoing the press to handstand and you walk across the parallel bars, pat ner was standing right by me and street presses to handstand walks and pat ner just goes, man, they don’t make him like that anymore.

Sevan Matossian (03:42):

<laugh> oh, like the dudes? Yeah. Oh he’s a beautiful man. Oh, special man.

Arielle Loewen (03:48):

So

Sevan Matossian (03:48):

Funny because he thought he looked so good.

Arielle Loewen (03:50):

Yeah, exactly. Yeah. I think, I think they brought in street because I think James got COVID. That’s what I heard.

Sevan Matossian (03:57):

I heard that too. I tried to, yeah, that was confirmed. Oh, that was confirmed. We,

Mattew Souza (04:01):

Yeah, we actually caught up with him on the onsite at the event. I don’t know if you guys could hear, but yeah, he, apparently he, he worked out really hard, kind of broke down his body as he put it tested positive, but had no symptoms. So they just isolated him for a little bit. Then he tested negative and then he got to come back and play.

Arielle Loewen (04:18):

Man

Mattew Souza (04:18):

Was essentially what

Sevan Matossian (04:19):

Happened. Oh, that’s FA wow.

Mattew Souza (04:21):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (04:22):

Um, it’s it’s kind of like, um, I like that kind of description of a guy co I worked out so hard that I got co I, I became susceptible with co I was so drunk. I kissed the wrong guy at the party like

Mattew Souza (04:37):

That,

Sevan Matossian (04:40):

Like,

Mattew Souza (04:40):

Like that. So my fault to just blame it on the goose.

Sevan Matossian (04:44):

Are you, um, where do you live? Ariel?

Arielle Loewen (04:47):

We live in Midland, Texas, which is if you know Dallas, you know, El Paso, we’re literally like right in the middle.

Sevan Matossian (04:53):

Are you by a lake?

Arielle Loewen (04:55):

We are not by any water. Oh, we’d have to travel like five hours to get to a puddle in the street.

Sevan Matossian (05:02):

<laugh> wow. I’m getting this total. Like you’re getting ready to go to the beach. Maybe I’m projecting. Cuz I’m going to the beach today. I’m getting this total. Like you’re going, you’re getting ready to go to the beach today. Like I picture next to you. You have a bag with towels and some shit for your kids to eat.

Arielle Loewen (05:13):

No, I wish no. The only thing we have here are swimming pools

Sevan Matossian (05:18):

And, and um, and you have one

Arielle Loewen (05:21):

Kid she’s three years old and she actually went to the games with us, which was fun. But never again. <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (05:28):

Tell me, tell me some shit, like, like you woke up in the middle of the night stuff.

Arielle Loewen (05:32):

No, no, she was oh, behaved. Great. It’s just not an event for kids. And my mom came with and my mom was like, man, we were at the venue all day and I was like, yeah, I don’t know what you expected, but like you, if you’re a fan, you just kind of sit around and wait for the events. Yeah. I didn’t have to deal, deal with anything. I just know it probably wasn’t much fun.

Sevan Matossian (05:53):

Did she see you? Was she up in the stands and like she’s like

Arielle Loewen (05:57):

She was yeah. For the sandbag event, I actually saw her on the floor. I’ve got a cool picture. I’m gonna post probably later, but it was a little too loud for her. When I won the event, she was actually in the beer garden. Yeah. This is our house. <laugh> when I won the event, she was in the beer garden, which I really wanted her to be at the finish line. Cuz what a cool picture. Of course I’m thinking all Instagram at the games of course. But how cool would it be to like cross the finish line and there’s Blakely and I get a big old hug and a picture from her.

Sevan Matossian (06:28):

Yeah. Well sorry. Which event did you win?

Arielle Loewen (06:31):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (06:32):

No, I don’t apply here.

Arielle Loewen (06:33):

Oh, you’re good. I won elevated Elizabeth.

Sevan Matossian (06:36):

Yes. Wow.

Arielle Loewen (06:38):

Yeah, it was so awesome to watch. It was amazing. So I’m in the, I’m lined up. My goal for the weekend was just to be in the final heat at some point throughout the weekend. So day one, I’m in the final heat and it’s Tia me, Laura Hova and just all the other athletes. And before it started, I like motion to my friends. I was like, just take a picture of me standing next to these athletes. Yeah, yeah. And then three to one go. I, I finish and beat all of ’em but it was amazing. It was pretty cool.

Sevan Matossian (07:09):

I wanna come back to that. I have some yeah. Crazy questions about how your arms must have felt after that. Um, so, so did your daughter ever cry in the stands?

Arielle Loewen (07:19):

I’m sure

Sevan Matossian (07:19):

She did. Like she was worried, like she was worried about you. I mean, can you imagine watching your mom pick up what you guys had to do? I, I would probably cry

Arielle Loewen (07:26):

<laugh> I don’t know if she, I don’t know if she’s old enough to quite comprehend that yet, but I think it was a little too loud for her. So she cried because of the fans going crazy.

Sevan Matossian (07:36):

Um, I, when I had been on the floor, um, and some in one of the, two of the final events and years passed, it was so loud that I started hearing ringing. Was it like that?

Arielle Loewen (07:48):

I never heard ringing. No, but it was pretty, it was pretty loud,

Sevan Matossian (07:51):

Like uncomfortable, loud.

Arielle Loewen (07:53):

Um, I didn’t think it was that uncomfortable to be honest. Okay. I would, I like expect that Saturday night in the Coliseum. So I was like the louder, the better

Sevan Matossian (08:02):

I, but I’m also the guy I’ve never been to a concert where I think, oh, this volume’s perfect. Oh. Or a bar. I’m always like, what the fuck is wrong with these people?

Arielle Loewen (08:09):

<laugh> I went, I went to a blue October concert. Do you know who that is?

Sevan Matossian (08:15):

No.

Arielle Loewen (08:16):

Oh, it was so loud. I like couldn’t even understand the music. I felt like the old person like get me outta here. It’s too loud.

Sevan Matossian (08:23):

Yeah. What are you doing? What I, I go to people’s houses and it’s like that. Like you go over there and they have like 20 people over and their music’s so loud. I’m like, I’m outside now. <laugh> that’s a goal. So I don’t, I don’t come in your house. That’s the goal.

Arielle Loewen (08:34):

That’s the goal.

Sevan Matossian (08:37):

So, so when you see all those dips, um, I, when I think of dips, I think of them as traditionally scaring people. Um, because they know that there’s a point, it’s one of those movements. If you get, it’s not like running where you can just slow down or burpees, you can slow down. It’s like, if you get stopped, it can be that’s it. Um, what, when you saw those, were you like, oh, I practice these all the time where you’re like, what the fuck is this mess?

Arielle Loewen (09:02):

Okay. You’re the first person I’m telling this to. Okay. Because I, I realized this,

Sevan Matossian (09:07):

You were high. You, you were high when you did that workout

Arielle Loewen (09:09):

<laugh> yeah, no. I started CrossFit 2012. The first event, not even event, the first workout I ever did at a CrossFit box here at CrossFit. Midland in Texas was one to 10. You’re in a pushup position. And you like row with a dumbbell and then you do one dip on the parallel bars.

Sevan Matossian (09:30):

Are those man makers or man makers. You have to go up like this

Arielle Loewen (09:33):

Man makers. You gotta go like all the way overhead.

Sevan Matossian (09:36):

Oh, oh yeah. Yeah. That’s okay. Okay. What’s the one where you go, go like this and you’re still on the ground. That’s Superman. Like a turn. You it up. No, you’re like in a pushup and you go up to one arm with the dumbbell, but you’re still in the pushup PO plank position. Okay. Anyway, but you didn’t do that. You did push up and then just draw and then like a, a LA raise. Okay.

Arielle Loewen (09:54):

Yeah. So the first workout I ever did for CrossFit was one to 10 LA rays and then dip on the parallel bars.

Sevan Matossian (10:01):

Okay.

Arielle Loewen (10:02):

And you come full circle. And then I end up winning an event with dips on the parallel bars. I thought that was pretty cool, but I wouldn’t say I personally like the bars better than I do rings. I felt like I do better on the bars, but actually was backstage. We couldn’t warm up with those bars. So the athletes like put together two of the row rigs and then put two like bars on them that you would lift. And so they were just like practicing shimming on these two bars. And I was actually practicing my dips and I was all over the place. And Dylan, my husband was like, Ariel, your dips are horrible.

Sevan Matossian (10:39):

<laugh> oh, wow, wow. Wow. It’s it’s boost.

Arielle Loewen (10:44):

Yeah. So we practiced a few little techniques and I got better, but

Sevan Matossian (10:48):

In the back

Arielle Loewen (10:49):

In the back, yeah.

Sevan Matossian (10:52):

Hey girl, your dips are ass is heed to that to you back there

Arielle Loewen (10:58):

He is because I know he’s not doing it to be rude. He’s trying to do it to be like, Hey, like get it together. Like a little bit of a realist, which from him, I can handle it. Anybody else? I’d be like, don’t talk to me. <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (11:12):

Oh, that’s awesome.

Arielle Loewen (11:13):

Oh yeah. It’s good.

Sevan Matossian (11:15):

So what were some of the things like, were you too far out, like when you were doing ’em and he is like tuck in tighter, squeeze your legs together. Like what, what were some of the, did he give you any

Arielle Loewen (11:24):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (11:25):

Or no, he is just like your ass, figure it out.

Arielle Loewen (11:28):

<laugh> no, I was like kicking behind me, like kicking my butt as I would kick. So I was doing like a weird circle and he was like, when you go down, bring your knees up and it helped me stay a little bit more intact.

Sevan Matossian (11:43):

Um, so when you, when that starts, um, when that event starts, you’re not, you’re not like, Hey, I’m gonna win this.

Arielle Loewen (11:55):

Oh no. Um, I just knew crazy. Tia was gonna come out hot. Don’t try and hang with her. But if you can stay close to her, do it, which Dylan was actually in the stands. And he was sitting next to Tasha Haley’s coach. And like, me and Tia are like fairly close through the first two rounds. And he’s all telling Tasia. He’s like, oh my gosh, Ariel’s coming out too hot. Who is she to think she can hang with Tia and Laura hve on <laugh>. So we all kinda like didn’t realize what was happening until I just like pulled away a little bit at the end.

Sevan Matossian (12:28):

How, um, who was on your lane to your right. And who was on your lane to your left?

Arielle Loewen (12:32):

Tia was to the right. Laura was to the left.

Sevan Matossian (12:35):

Oh shit.

Arielle Loewen (12:36):

Yeah. So

Sevan Matossian (12:37):

Yeah. You were sandwiched in between the menaces?

Arielle Loewen (12:40):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (12:40):

<laugh> oh, wow. Um, were you even surprised at that point that you were in that heat or did you know you belonged in that heat?

Arielle Loewen (12:50):

I was still surprised. I was surprised, but also the first events were really good for me with the skill stuff and I did decent on the bike one, so I was glad to be there. And I was like, will I stay here throughout the weekend?

Sevan Matossian (13:03):

Did, did you fail any di in any, any dips in those, um, sets of three?

Arielle Loewen (13:08):

No, I did you, I felt,

Sevan Matossian (13:10):

Go ahead. Sorry.

Arielle Loewen (13:11):

No, I felt like they never got to the point of failure. They were manageable.

Sevan Matossian (13:18):

And, and so you did them 7 7, 7 5 5 5 3 3 3.

Arielle Loewen (13:24):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (13:25):

Yeah. Crazy. And, um, you were never up there, like with one left and were like, Ooh, these are, my arms are really blown up or my chest is, did you, do you feel when you do dips or you tricep person or a chess person, are you feeling it here or are you feeling it back here?

Arielle Loewen (13:38):

Definitely triceps.

Sevan Matossian (13:39):

Triceps.

Arielle Loewen (13:40):

Yeah. But no, it never felt to the point of fatigue.

Sevan Matossian (13:44):

Crazy.

Arielle Loewen (13:45):

I know that’s

Sevan Matossian (13:46):

Fun. Fucking nuts.

Arielle Loewen (13:47):

So the events going amazing the last round? No, the middle round. You do three dips, three dips, then three dips. I finished my three dips and at this point I’m in the lead. I get off the P bars and I step, if you looked at the P bars, you could like, see the, the legs that hold it at the end. Yeah. And they were like clearly elevated. I stepped on it wrong and twisted my ankle.

Mattew Souza (14:15):

Oh

Arielle Loewen (14:16):

Yeah. See if you, do you see it sticking out? Down there?

Sevan Matossian (14:20):

Yeah.

Arielle Loewen (14:21):

The little like black thing, kind of in the corner there. Yeah. All the way back there. Up to the corner, Susan. Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (14:29):

Oh yeah. Yeah. Is that a, what is, what is that thing? It

Mattew Souza (14:32):

Branchees off that way. So it holds it from tilting side to side.

Sevan Matossian (14:35):

Exactly. Like the joint. Okay. Yeah.

Arielle Loewen (14:37):

So I step on that going into my last round of nine twist my ankle and I can like bar walk. So when you text me to like, come on the Savan podcast that night, I literally couldn’t walk to the car. My ankle was swollen and bruised and everything and it was bad. So

Sevan Matossian (14:55):

All you cry, do you cry? Are you like, my games are over. I fucked up,

Arielle Loewen (14:59):

No. I had a PT there, Jody from body works and she looked at it and she’s like, you’re fine. Let me just do this to it. But she taped, she taped the like living crap out of it, the rest of the weekend, just so I couldn’t feel anything.

Sevan Matossian (15:12):

<laugh> is it, are, are you, um, are you, uh, are you still hurt from that?

Arielle Loewen (15:16):

I am actually. I I’m. Um, I still can’t walk normal yet, but maybe in the next few weeks,

Sevan Matossian (15:23):

Like you’re adjusting your gate because you feel some pain.

Arielle Loewen (15:26):

Exactly.

Sevan Matossian (15:28):

That’s. How about anything else? How’s the rest of the body how’s any, any soreness or

Arielle Loewen (15:32):

No, honestly, I felt good. My back was sore after the dead lifts. Yeah. If you look there, my ankles taped on the right side. And then any other pictures you see, I’m either wearing high socks to not show any weakness of an ankle taped or <laugh> um, you’ll just see it there.

Sevan Matossian (15:49):

Is that what event was that? Right there was that the, uh, capital

Arielle Loewen (15:52):

One. That was the capital. Yeah. That was the capital.

Sevan Matossian (15:55):

Hey, you know what I saw? I saw, um, I mean, you can find anything on the internet, but there’s this lady who used to work for CrossFit, she was a fucking wackadoodle. This is like way back in the day. But she wrote that that workout was like subversive and was supposed to like ignite the fans to remind them of January 6th. That was like <laugh>. And that’s why that workout was done. I swear to God, I read a hole from an old CrossFit employee

Mattew Souza (16:20):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (16:21):

She used to actually be in charge of the affiliate blog. Hey, she’s one of your people, Caleb, she’s in the military too.

Mattew Souza (16:28):

Like

Sevan Matossian (16:28):

Fucking nut pretending

Mattew Souza (16:29):

You can’t hear now. <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (16:31):

I, I was never watching that and, and was like, oh my God, I’m having January 6th flashback.

Mattew Souza (16:37):

<laugh> that’s hilarious.

Sevan Matossian (16:43):

Um, so, so you, so you win that event. We people always talk about, oh, the, these workouts exposed athletes for what they couldn’t do. But when an athlete, like you, we never know when an athlete like you, what it did is it exposed what you’re amazing at that you didn’t even know.

Arielle Loewen (17:04):

Yeah. I didn’t even know.

Sevan Matossian (17:05):

Right. Mm-hmm <affirmative> and that, and that’s kind of crazy. And we would never know that from watching. So when we’re watching, if we see like handstand, pushups, stop someone, we’re like, oh, they’re fucked. Right? Like we saw ma O’Brien do that first handstand push up. And we’re like, uhoh, uh, you saw Ricky Gerard do that first one. You’re like uhoh, but you, you killed that. And we were in real time, we find out as the viewer at the same time, you’re finding out, oh shit, I’m gonna win. Like you didn’t expect it.

Arielle Loewen (17:31):

No, not at all. It was awesome.

Sevan Matossian (17:33):

Yeah. That’s awesome. Hey, you think Tia’s coming back?

Arielle Loewen (17:38):

I don’t know part of me doesn’t I don’t know me and Dylan. We listen to all the podcasts. Well, he does. And he tells me about it, but we’ve heard all the theories of like her whole family was there. She was emotional backstage. I don’t know. I am glad she was there this year though, because what a sweet thing to say that I wanted event an Tia was in the field because that’s just like unheard of

Sevan Matossian (18:02):

Mm-hmm <affirmative> yeah. That’s really, really cool. A huge fan of the show. Double high five to the fittest mom in America

Arielle Loewen (18:08):

Too. Cool. He’s painting. Good.

Sevan Matossian (18:11):

I wanna come back to Tia here in a second, but are people’s perception of you? Um, changing?

Arielle Loewen (18:18):

I don’t really know what their perception was in the beginning,

Sevan Matossian (18:21):

But maybe can you tell and, and I guess the litmus test would be comments on your Instagram or, or DMS you get. Well, I, I, at least my perception of you is that you weren’t, you weren’t, that you were, you weren’t that serious. You were just super athletic. You were super committed. You were, uh, a fitness nut and right. You were just dabbling, but you were hardcore by dabbling. I mean, dabbling to your own, whatever hard hardcores that you worked out and then you, and then you had some success. And then now you’re like, you’re, you’re kind of like in it to win it and, and maybe even a transformation from, um, like I saw you as just kind of like a mom before. Right. And now I don’t after this year. I see you different,

Arielle Loewen (19:10):

Man. I think you said it all Sivan <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (19:13):

Look, I see you as like, you know what I mean? So I’m just wondering, do you feel that like, from the perception, like, I don’t, like before you were just a mom who made it to CrossFit now you’re to me, you’re like a hardcore games athlete who just happens to have a kid.

Arielle Loewen (19:26):

Yeah. And what’s what I love, love, love about that story is it’s nothing, my words have said it’s been all like

Sevan Matossian (19:33):

Execution.

Arielle Loewen (19:34):

Yeah. Yeah. And then you, you figure it out for yourself.

Sevan Matossian (19:38):

Yeah. It is. It is all look you’re right. Yeah. It’s really, um, I, I know this is gonna sound bad, but it’s not, it’s really superficial. It’s like numbers and behavior and your physique and how you attack and the outcomes,

Arielle Loewen (19:51):

Which is my favorite way. Like you’re not gonna ever see me saying like, oh, look at me, look at this, look at this. But it’s like, I’ll work hard and then you figure it out for yourself. So it’s been really cool to see that come to fruition.

Sevan Matossian (20:05):

Um, who do you have any sponsors?

Arielle Loewen (20:07):

I do. I have born primitive.

Sevan Matossian (20:10):

Oh, I’m in love with their fucking loves those joggers. Oh my God. Those joggers

Arielle Loewen (20:17):

Simonon. I can get you some, you text me your size. I’ll get you some

Sevan Matossian (20:19):

More. Okay. I that’s good to hear because I was actually thinking I have this obsessive personality and I was actually thinking about like going online and like just buying $500 worth. And I don’t know how I was gonna explain it to my like one for every day.

Arielle Loewen (20:33):

You text me your size and I’ll hook you up somebody.

Sevan Matossian (20:35):

Okay. Okay. Born primitive. I got ’em in the Gaines box. I can’t even believe I get some it’s. So unlike me to do the Gaines box, that’s the thing where random shit comes to you. Yeah. And these pants were in there and I’ve, I can’t stop wearing them.

Mattew Souza (20:48):

Yeah. That isn’t like it with the game box.

Sevan Matossian (20:50):

Yeah.

Arielle Loewen (20:51):

<laugh> what a CrossFit fan.

Sevan Matossian (20:54):

Okay. Okay. So barn primitive

Arielle Loewen (20:57):

And then tier

Sevan Matossian (20:58):

For sure. Oh, wait back to barn primitive and their bathing suits are nice.

Arielle Loewen (21:02):

They’re really nice. Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (21:03):

And they have one pieces that aren’t like, granny, they have nice one pieces for women that aren’t like dumb.

Arielle Loewen (21:09):

Yeah. And they also just came out with a golfer line for guys. So they have like those nice black pants and shorts Dylan. So, because I get the hook up, Dylan gets blessed too. So it’s been great for the whole family and they have kids clothes.

Sevan Matossian (21:25):

Oh, I didn’t even know that. Yeah. Yeah. I’m totally upset. I wonder if I can get my kid sponsor. It

Mattew Souza (21:30):

Sounds a huge fan now. Yes.

Sevan Matossian (21:31):

Yeah. Who are these guys? Do you know? Who are these gals? Is this a, who owns this company? Do you know them?

Arielle Loewen (21:37):

I know Jen, which I believe she works for them. I don’t personally know the owners.

Sevan Matossian (21:41):

Okay. But

Arielle Loewen (21:42):

I would like to,

Sevan Matossian (21:43):

Are, are they a CrossFit brand or are these dudes like, is this, are they in other like, did they come out of the CrossFit ecosystem?

Arielle Loewen (21:50):

Yeah. They came outta the CrossFit ecosystem and they’re very much like Patriot inspired America,

Sevan Matossian (21:57):

America.

Caleb Beaver (21:57):

They’re based outta Virginia Beach.

Sevan Matossian (21:59):

Don’t be scared. He works with us. That’s Caleb. Don’t be don’t let him scare you. He’s not like

Arielle Loewen (22:06):

We’re taking live audience members. <laugh> yeah.

Mattew Souza (22:11):

Virginia Beach,

Caleb Beaver (22:11):

Virginia Beach. I’m pretty sure they’re owned by like Navy seals or something.

Sevan Matossian (22:14):

Okay. Mm-hmm <affirmative>. Oh, and that would explain also they, um, they did, uh, Josh Bridge’s shorts,

Mattew Souza (22:21):

The JS,

Sevan Matossian (22:22):

The JS. I lost mine. So bombed you

Mattew Souza (22:24):

Lost your JS. What did you just taken? ’em off, down at the beach is getting loose and like, I can bring him home. <laugh>

Arielle Loewen (22:31):

Tell the story.

Sevan Matossian (22:33):

No, I wish I wish. Hey, do you have a pretty tight loop of your life? Ariel,

Arielle Loewen (22:40):

Friends and family? Or what do you mean by?

Sevan Matossian (22:42):

No, no, no. I don’t mean people like, so if I wanna know where you want on a Tuesday at 8:00 AM, 90% of the time I’ll know where you’re at. Like once I like your hu. Yeah. And like you park your car in the same spot. You eat this every day. You wake up at this time, you go to bed at this time and like,

Arielle Loewen (22:58):

Yeah. Not, not so much going to bed, but like Dylan always gives me crap because I’m very scheduled and like routine, I’ll say routine. And like, if I’m at the gym at 12, he knows not to call me at 12. Cause I’m at the gym. But like, if you try and mess up that schedule, um, I’m just like, no, I can’t. I can’t, this is my schedule. <laugh> yeah. It’s a weakness. Mm-hmm <affirmative>

Sevan Matossian (23:19):

And, and even, and, and how, how many days a week do you swim?

Arielle Loewen (23:22):

Well, I’m leading up to the games once, twice a week. Twice

Sevan Matossian (23:26):

A week. And so on those days you have a pool. You go to you go there, you, you have your part, you have a spot that you like to park in. That’s usually open you get out.

Arielle Loewen (23:34):

No, no, no. Let me break you down my pole situation. The owner of

Sevan Matossian (23:39):

You sleep, you were in a little kidney sized pool that you jump in someone else’s backyard to swim minute. She

Mattew Souza (23:43):

Drive my hours to

Sevan Matossian (23:44):

Get there.

Arielle Loewen (23:46):

<laugh> the owner of the gym. I go to has a back door in their backyard, Olympic size lap pool, right behind their guest house. Wow. I it’s absolutely beautiful Sivan. I pull up park right next to her house, walk in and I can, I literally have this like Oasis and there’s nobody else in the pool. It’s peaceful. They have waterfalls. So I’ll swim in the lap pool and Blakely will swim behind me. They have like a little hot tub area and my sister will come and watch her. I have the best swimming situation as far as like peaceful. Beautiful. When it comes to swimming for the games. It’s awesome.

Sevan Matossian (24:29):

How, how long is an Olympic size pool?

Arielle Loewen (24:31):

Oh, she told me it was longer than what we had to do at the games. I wanna say maybe

Caleb Beaver (24:37):

50,

Arielle Loewen (24:38):

50 feet, 50

Caleb Beaver (24:39):

Meters, 50 meters.

Arielle Loewen (24:41):

50, 50 meters. Yeah. So I was training a little bit longer than what we had to do competition

Sevan Matossian (24:47):

Time. So it’s 25 each way. There’s no way someone has a 50 meter pool in their backyard.

Arielle Loewen (24:52):

I can send you a picture.

Caleb Beaver (24:54):

Pretty sure. It’s 50, 50 meters in length is an Olympic size pool.

Sevan Matossian (24:57):

That’s 150 feet.

Caleb Beaver (25:00):

Mm-hmm <affirmative>, it’s a, it’s like a normal pool is like 25 meters there. Like one length. Yeah. The Olympic is 50 meters. Like straight.

Sevan Matossian (25:10):

When, when you guys swam at the games, was it 25 there and back or mm-hmm <affirmative>

Arielle Loewen (25:16):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (25:16):

Think so. You swam you’re the pool you swim in is twice as the distance. One way

Arielle Loewen (25:24):

It might, I wouldn’t say twice. It might be 50 feet, but it, it was I’d say at least if I was going down and back in the CrossFit pool. Yeah. Where I train in her backyard would be down and back in a half.

Sevan Matossian (25:37):

And it it’s, it’s a skinny pool. It’s skinny. It’s it’s it’s it’s, it’s a lap pool. It’s skinny.

Arielle Loewen (25:42):

You could fit two people in there. So I’d say it’s like one lane.

Caleb Beaver (25:46):

Hmm.

Sevan Matossian (25:47):

Wow.

Arielle Loewen (25:48):

It’s amazing. I’ll send a picture once we’re done, but it’s, it’s beautiful.

Sevan Matossian (25:54):

And what

Arielle Loewen (25:55):

Go ahead. Or what’s what screwed me over for last year at the games is I’m used to this beautiful, peaceful, um, pool. And then we have an open water swim, and I have no idea how to swim in open water. So it’s good for when I need to swim in a pool setting, but it didn’t work for open water

Sevan Matossian (26:15):

In, in open water. It’s not because of the waves and shit, but it’s just like finding your direction. Right. You’re in a pool. You’re kept like this and there you’re like, oh shit. Where am I going?

Arielle Loewen (26:24):

Yeah. And you can’t see anything. So when your head’s underwater, it’s almost like your eyes are closed and then you can’t breathe. It’s a little scary.

Sevan Matossian (26:32):

When, when you were doing the swim in the, uh, in the lake there and you have goggles on, is it just, what do you see in there?

Arielle Loewen (26:38):

Brown <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (26:40):

<laugh> you just swimming in a toilet.

Arielle Loewen (26:43):

Toilet. Yeah. Yeah. Picture you put your head in the toilet. <laugh> it’s gross.

Sevan Matossian (26:50):

Oh, what is your, um, what’s the owner of the gym do like what’s their day job.

Arielle Loewen (26:55):

Her husband owns an oil company

Mattew Souza (27:00):

OHS, right?

Arielle Loewen (27:01):

Yep. Her facility is amazing though.

Sevan Matossian (27:04):

Midlands for the oil and gas money. It’s inhabited by like 50 people. Thank you. Will look, will knows exact. He didn’t even ask the question yet. He knows my brain’s turning. Like

Mattew Souza (27:13):

What though? That was like 20 minutes ago. He wrote that

Arielle Loewen (27:17):

Hundred 50,000 people I think are in Midland a little bit more than 50, but

Sevan Matossian (27:22):

It’s no for oil.

Arielle Loewen (27:24):

Yeah. It’s known for oil.

Sevan Matossian (27:26):

Um, so you’re do you own your gym that you train? No. No. Belongs to this lady? Yeah.

Arielle Loewen (27:31):

Yeah. It belongs to her and she’s, she’s been amazing. I switched gyms in January to move to her gym. And the first thing I’ve known her for years, the first thing she does, she comes up to me and she’s like, okay, what are your weaknesses? And I told her, like the echo bike, the sandbag, the next day, she sends me a screenshot and was like, I ordered you a sandbag. I ordered you an echo bike. What else do you need? Oh, so she’s just, yeah, she’s there in my corner. Just like, how can you get better? And we’re gonna do everything we can to support you.

Sevan Matossian (28:01):

Well, um, why do you think, um, benefactors are great people who have resources that can help other people. It’s fucking so nice. Um, why, why, why you, what, what do you think she likes about you?

Arielle Loewen (28:16):

I’d like to think it’s cuz she’s known me for years and she knows I’ll show up and work hard, mind my business and then leave. But that’s

Sevan Matossian (28:24):

Why, so she wants to support a winner.

Arielle Loewen (28:27):

Yeah, I think so. And she’s seen me. She actually was at the gym. I first went to in 2012. So she’s seen my journey kind of unfold from the beginning. Like no one else has.

Mattew Souza (28:38):

So she saw you win missable. That’s what really? It comes down to

Arielle Loewen (28:42):

<laugh> if we’re gonna go back that far, <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (28:45):

Wait. I don’t even know that. What did you what’s what’s miss valuable.

Arielle Loewen (28:49):

Oh, tell us soon. I could tell you, um, at high school, you know how they pick people like, um, for your high school, miss talented, miss, um, congeniality, all of that stuff. I won most

Sevan Matossian (29:02):

Likely to be a comedian or shit like that. Yeah.

Arielle Loewen (29:05):

I won miss valuable. I don’t even know what that means. <laugh> but I hold the title <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (29:11):

I would think it means you’re gonna have the highest UHT tax bill. Like you’re gonna be the richest person, most

Arielle Loewen (29:16):

Valuable <laugh> man.

Sevan Matossian (29:18):

Um, you take your daughter with you when you swim laps.

Arielle Loewen (29:21):

Yeah. And my sister came with, which was awesome. And she’ll watch her while I’ll swim.

Sevan Matossian (29:26):

How old’s your sister?

Arielle Loewen (29:28):

She’s 30 and she’s actually pregnant. She’s gonna have a kid in the end of September.

Sevan Matossian (29:35):

And you and you have a good relationship with her.

Arielle Loewen (29:37):

Yeah, I do. We’ve gotten closer as we’ve gotten older for sure.

Sevan Matossian (29:41):

Yeah. Same with my sister.

Arielle Loewen (29:43):

Really?

Sevan Matossian (29:43):

Yeah. Way closer, way closer.

Arielle Loewen (29:46):

Agreed. Cause you kind of go, well, you wouldn’t know, but in high school we were like, not enemies, but not friends. I would steal her her clothes and she would hate it actually got so bad cuz I have.
