#532 – Adrian Bozman Day 3 Recap | 2022 CrossFit Games

Sevan Matossian (00:00):

But you are <laugh>. Are you outside in the sunlight? Are you indoors in a sh in a very, very beachy atmosphere? Holy cow.

Adrian Bozman (00:11):

They did an awesome job, man. This pool looks bad ass.

Mattew Souza (00:15):

Oh, that looks amazing. Adrian. I’m hearing that, that place seats 800 people.

Adrian Bozman (00:22):

It’s not very many. Yeah. Uh,

Sevan Matossian (00:23):

I think that’s not very many.

Adrian Bozman (00:26):

Well, it’s all up there.

Sevan Matossian (00:29):

Yeah. That’s gonna be wild.

Adrian Bozman (00:31):

Yeah. It’s a pretty badass facility. So it’s not that many compared to how many we’re expecting to have on site. So, you know, it’ll definitely be, it’ll be cutthroat to get in here, but, uh, it’s gonna be awesome. Yeah. Like, and we got all the divisions rolling through, like everybody’s doing this test age. Grouper is adaptive, young, old men, women teams. They all do exactly the same thing. So this is like for the nerds, like me after the whole thing is said and done, you can dig through the forensics and you can be like, Hey cool. Wow. There’s some team athlete out there that would, would’ve hung with Tia or some 65 year old. Ah, that would’ve been a, a total anchor on a team or something like that, you know? Um,

Sevan Matossian (01:15):

So, and they all have to, they all have the, um, the buy-in that’s the first six rounds before you get to sort of the race and the last two rounds, it’s all identical like that.

Adrian Bozman (01:24):

Well, so it’s a two minute clock that my, the inspiration’s like a beep test, right? Where you just, you run like a 10 yard thing and then the beep gets shorter and shorter. And so you just can’t keep up the same kind of deal here. But the trick was like, how do you do that? Make it appropriate for a 65 year old lady and Tia, like that’s hard. So it’s gotta start off pretty slow roll. And if we had an infinite time to do, like, you just kept going until you failed. That’d be great. But because we have a thousand heats to run, that’s just not feasible. I mean, as it is, the pool is opening at eight tomorrow. We’re running heats all day until like 3 45 or something. Um, so even adding like two or three minutes compounded creates hours in your schedule.

Sevan Matossian (02:09):

So, but, but, but the final two rounds, you, you pull the steer as as many calories as you can. And once you make it to the sixth round, you can do the seventh and the eighth.

Adrian Bozman (02:18):

No, you still have, uh, well, yes. That’s yes. Sorry. I’m tired. And I misspoke there that, yeah. So if you make it past the round 18, um, I mean, at that point you’ve proven that you’re gonna make it right then it’s just max on both and, uh, full send for max cow’s wins.

Sevan Matossian (02:38):

Yeah. I like that. I just, that that’s yeah.

Adrian Bozman (02:40):

I’ll tell you you’ll you’ll appreciate the seven. That was a toilet thought. Originally it went originally it went 20 calories and then max calories. And it was like, man, like there just wasn’t enough separation there. Like if you’re a good swimmer, you’re gonna make it. And then it’s just one effort. It wasn’t enough of a spread to get points on the board. And I was sitting there in testing week at, at robe fitness and I was taking a dump and, um, I was like, I got it. We’re gonna do two max rounds. And then they got lots of chance to separate.

Sevan Matossian (03:10):

So I, I, I was wondering if actually you were taking a dump or if it was, um, because more and more men are sitting now when they pee because of social media so they can have time on their phone. And so I was wondering if it was actually a dump or if you were just getting some social media time in, it was just a pee.

Adrian Bozman (03:27):

No, it was a solid number two.

Sevan Matossian (03:29):

Okay. Uh, I wanna thank California hormones for the sponsorship. I wanna thank Brandon Gillum. Appreciate all you guys. Thank you. Thanks for the great coverage and all the podcast. Holy cow. Thank you.

Adrian Bozman (03:41):

Wow. The other day, where’s my like dollar 89 for my internet.

Sevan Matossian (03:45):

I, I, I Venmo it to you. Check your account

Adrian Bozman (03:49):

Guys for my internet connection though. <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (03:52):

How many lanes will, how many heats will the, uh, the elite division go in?

Adrian Bozman (03:58):

So it’s heats of twenties. So it’ll be 20 men and then 20 women. Boom.

Sevan Matossian (04:04):

Okay. Oh, Alex get awesome. And the cuts are, um, after, at the end of the day tomorrow.

Adrian Bozman (04:11):

That’s right.

Sevan Matossian (04:12):

Okay. And, and will that be a production? Like, will you gather all the athletes together and no,

Adrian Bozman (04:17):

Cause it’s gonna be a late night. So we’ll, we’ll gather him back a house. It’s a softer, gentler time Seon. Right, right. So we will, uh, we’ll gather him back a house. We’ll say, Hey, thanks for playing. It’s been a lot of fun and, um, check the leaderboard and we’ll see some of you tomorrow, most of you tomorrow.

Sevan Matossian (04:33):

Oh, really? That’s how it’s gonna be.

Adrian Bozman (04:36):

It’s late. Like, I don’t know what else it’s gonna, if we have any scoring things to resolve, um, you know, whatever, whatever. It’s just,

Sevan Matossian (04:44):

It’s just, I, I just like there to be there with the camera and watch them cry, but that’s just me. I’m sick. Like that

Adrian Bozman (04:49):

<laugh> fair enough. I might have been a little bit of that, uh, with that handstand pushup workout, although God, that was awesome. SU were you in the Coliseum for that? I

Sevan Matossian (04:58):

Was, yeah.

Adrian Bozman (04:59):

Crap that men’s he, the, the men’s competition was absolutely insane today. Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (05:07):

I, I have two, I have two questions for you. Um, I, I know you don’t have a lot of time. The, when Rebecca fussier was carrying the, uh, SEL, um, stone up the capital steps and you guys let the crowd in behind her, how did you make that decision? Were you like, okay, security let ’em in. Or was that the crowd pushed their way through what happened?

Adrian Bozman (05:26):

No, there was no, uh, the, Hey crossword games, fans are awesome. They all were so good for an open course like that, where they could have basically just mobbed the field if they wanted to, none of that was taken place and they were so self-policing, and I think it’s a real Testament to the people that are involved in this. Like they really care about the athletes and it’s, it’s not like it’s not like that. They’re not gonna just jump the fence, you know? And so it was very much, we saw it happening. She was gonna finish last athlete on the field. I went, I, I went up to her earlier, uh, when she was a little further down and I, I said, Hey, real talk. Like, are you gonna make it? And she’s like, yeah, of course. I said, okay, great. We’ll let it run. And so, um, when she made that last landing, then I just started waving people in. And then I got the couple of the judges, couple of the security basically just make a, a bit of a barrier so that they didn’t get like right up on her. And, um, then we just kind of followed from that lead

Sevan Matossian (06:22):

Or from that God, that was brilliant. Ah,

Adrian Bozman (06:25):

It was amazing. It was crazy. I

Sevan Matossian (06:27):

Haven’t

Adrian Bozman (06:28):

Experienced anything like that. It was absolutely insane.

Sevan Matossian (06:31):

My mom text me and she said, holy cow, did you see that? I started tearing up and then an affiliate owner, grown ass man, text me from the east coast season at the same time. He’s like, did you see that? I started crying.

Adrian Bozman (06:43):

Yeah. Some powerful stuff. And, uh, I, you know, it’s funny, I’ve had a few affiliate owners come up to me today and say, Hey, thanks what the athlete experience so far is gonna be really good for my affiliate in the sense that like yeah, basics matter. And yeah, like mm-hmm, <affirmative> yeah. Playing with things and expanding on existing skill sets matters. And that’s what I say all the time in my affiliate. And I’m like, great. Like that is great. And uh, like, you know, I think people, because cross the games is shiny and, and very visible. They think that it is supported by these other aspects. Uh, and it’s not true. It’s like the games is there to be the highlight reel for everything else. It’s like, it’s like the, uh, somebody said it. Ah, and I can’t remember. It was a good saying something about, it’s the thing that draws you in, but it’s not the real thing, but whatever. They had a good analogy and I don’t have it

Sevan Matossian (07:41):

Right now. Was it chase?

Adrian Bozman (07:43):

No, it was not chase anyway. Yeah. I gotta go though. I gotta, I gotta finish up here and go to bed.

Sevan Matossian (07:51):

One last question.

Adrian Bozman (07:52):

Hey, quick.

Sevan Matossian (07:53):

The workout that you talked about that would be indicative of like the order in which people win or that the champion would, would, would win. Like the one that you thought, Hey, whoever wins, this is probably the winner of the CrossFit games. If you had to pick one, is that workout? Um, the shuttle run, uh, jerks.

Adrian Bozman (08:11):

That was, yeah, that was one that I was like, if you do well in both of those, like if you took like a first, second, or like a second, third, I’m like pretty hard to, uh,

Sevan Matossian (08:21):

You’re the guy.

Adrian Bozman (08:23):

Yeah. That’s a pretty good predictor in my opinion.

Sevan Matossian (08:25):

Okay. Awesome. Thanks brother. You demand. Do you want, yeah. And you can come over and eat some raw meat if you want. <laugh>

Adrian Bozman (08:31):

Tar tar. There’s a place by my house in Nashville that, uh, they do this beef tartar thing and I could live off of that, man. I could eat that three meals a day, every day, knocking sick. So good.

Sevan Matossian (08:42):

Anyway, so good. See you guys. Thanks Adrian boss. Bye. Uh, by him he looked by himself. Yeah. I think Sam his last night out there. Yeah. Yeah.

Adrian Bozman (08:53):

It’s kind of cool that we get to follow him

Mattew Souza (08:54):

Along as he’s like and shows his work, right? Like he’s not leaving the event going to bed. No, he is already planning for tomorrow. He’s prepping. He’s double checking, triple checking. Every,

Sevan Matossian (09:07):

Without th this isn’t like, um, this isn’t like, um, oh, thank you. McDonald’s for being the official sponsor of the Olympics. I’m telling you that this podcast would not be unfolding like this. Like you’d probably be listening to me interview some guy who immigrated from Venezuela, who, um, is now rich or an author of some book or some doctor somewhere, or you’d be hearing one of my live calling shows where I talk about abortion and racism. And the reason why you’re watching this game stuff is because of people like California hormones and, and, and really it’s like, it’s upped our game, like 10 X. And so the owner of that company is a listener to the podcast, uh, part of the CrossFit community. And, uh, it’s, it’s been just, it’s been just fucking amazing. They’ve given us the resources to up our game on our, uh, social media to send people like, uh, SU out to the games to, um, uh, basically just reach out to a bunch of people.

Sevan Matossian (10:16):

And I J and I just wanna tell you that, cuz I feel like when I talk about California hormones and I, and I give you like the spiel and I’m just going through it and I’m like, Hey, if you wanna get your blood checked and if you wanna get a free consultation from a doctor, these, these people were already supporting us before we offered that, that, that was just like something that’s come along since then. So they were already like, this was someone who had the means to help support the show. And then that happened. But that being said, I do, I every, I wanna add value to everyone’s business life, everything that they present, that I can help them with. Especially people who are on the same team like Gabe or like California hormones. So you can get a free doctor’s consultation. You go to their website, CA hormones.com.

Sevan Matossian (10:58):

Uh, you use the password seven on, uh, turn in your blood work and you get a free doctor’s consultation. If you live in California, you get the blood work done free too. That’s it? There’s no obligation. There’ll be no spamming you. But then if you find out you do wanna get on testosterone replacement therapy, you’ll be getting the best stuff from the cheapest price. And, uh, and you’ll be doing it through here. And you’ll be supporting someone who supported the podcast, which I think is just like cool as fuck. Because it’s AC, it’s AC it’s doing more than supporting the podcast. It’s driving it forward. Same thing with Gabe. Um, Gabe got that booth. We didn’t pay him any money. That shit was expensive as fuck. He’s like, Hey, it would be cool. If I could break. Even they told him he couldn’t even sell coffee there.

Sevan Matossian (11:40):

And then the California hormones, people are like, Hey, we’ll buy a thousand shirts and you can give him away there. They didn’t even, they didn’t even ask to put the CA hormones thing on the, on the back. I didn’t even want them doing that and giving away the free shirts, cuz I sell the shirts. I wanna make money. You guys. But they’re like, now I give the shirts away free. Anyway, that that’s how that shit’s playing out. It’s just everyone just jumping in. So, uh, Jenny like Jenny Vaca, Vaccaro 9 99. Thank you. And I’m just using and, and, and also as you guys know, like, and I’ve said this a million fucking times, like if people like Adrian didn’t jump in or Lizar GI or rich phoning and Angelo or Taylor and Jr, or like this show would also be like, I’d just be doing my own thing, which would be fine. But, um, it really is just hardworking, committed, focused people. I was literally on the phone with map because what we’re doing is tomorrow. So, so, oh, I gotta explain all this shit to you guys.

Sevan Matossian (12:46):

Don’t tell will Branstetter Gabe this cuz they put together this fucking insane, perfect plan so that you’re supposed to wear your CEO shirt on Sunday, take a picture, post it. And then they’re gonna pick the winner for the bike that we’re still gonna do that. But tomorrow at three 15, you know, they have that beautiful mock affiliate that says for and elite fitness at the venue at three 15 tomorrow, we’re asking anyone who listens to the seven podcast to show up there and meet. Ideally, we want you in your CEO shirt, but then you won’t be able to wear your CEO, oh, shirt, Sunday, which we wanted you to do. So now what we’re gonna tell you to do this is the part don’t tell Willer, Gabe, if you wear it tomorrow, take a picture, but don’t post the picture till Sunday.

Sevan Matossian (13:33):

Anyway, if you come there tomorrow, three 15, even if you don’t have the shirt come there, we’re gonna take a giant group picture. Uh, we’re gonna stream it live. It’ll be after, uh, the second event tomorrow, um, Hiller will be there. Susan will be there. Um, Heidi will be there. They’ll be streaming it live. And then afterwards, uh, we’ll all mosey on over to the well not yeah, me too. I guess just not physically. We’ll mosey on over to the beer garden and throw one down together. If you guys are nice, maybe Susan will buy one of you, a beer or two of you, three of you, not too many, not too many on the media card. So that’s a plan and you can go if you didn’t understand anything. I said go to the Instagram seven on podcast, Instagram. Um, how would you describe it? SU oh, I can’t hear you SU no. Um, you know that you there’s a mock affiliate there. It says forg and elite fitness basically when you enter the, I think when you enter the venue, it’s on the left and the beer garden’s on the right. It’s basically right in between them there. You know what I’m saying? Um, and it says forging elite fitness on it and it says CrossFit affiliate and it’s basically a mock CrossFit affiliate that anyone can go into and take a class. And it’s basically, they set up an affiliate. Oh, now I can hear you.

Mattew Souza (14:54):

Can you hear me now?

Sevan Matossian (14:55):

Yeah,

Mattew Souza (14:56):

I think it’s probably just through the laptop. Huh?

Sevan Matossian (14:59):

Probably.

Mattew Souza (15:00):

Okay. Now the speaker’s on here, but the place come through the laptop. Okay. So when you guys come into the venue, those of you guys that know how the layout is, you walk in the affiliate, um, the affiliates onto your left hand side, the beer, the beer gardens on your right hand side, we’ll meet in front of the affiliate. On the left hand side, we’ll take a group photo. We’ll rock across a little pathway and uh, we’ll grab a, we’ll grab a B together.

Sevan Matossian (15:23):

Makes sense. All right. And I’m trying to think if there’s any other house cleaning, how cool of Adrian to come on.

Mattew Souza (15:32):

So cool. Let’s see if I could switch it back to this.

Mattew Souza (15:37):

Can you hear me still?

Sevan Matossian (15:38):

Oh, that’s nice.

Mattew Souza (15:40):

Yeah. Well it, for whatever reason it dropped me off of this and went, could you hear me when Adrian was on?

Sevan Matossian (15:46):

I didn’t. Were you even, I didn’t even see you. Were you there? <laugh>

Mattew Souza (15:52):

I just wanna show my shirt off.

Sevan Matossian (15:55):

Oh yeah. That’s dope, man. That’s a dope shirt. <laugh> that’s smart that that’s got some Dolly esque shit to it. Who is that again? That’s uh, Alexis rap.

Mattew Souza (16:06):

Yep. Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (16:06):

That’s smart.

Mattew Souza (16:07):

It’s uh, it’s, it’s pretty funny. I, people have been so generous, like giving shirts and stuff like that, that I, um, I didn’t even know if I needed to pack any shirts.

Sevan Matossian (16:17):

Right.

Mattew Souza (16:18):

And then we got some cool stuff. I think these will be down at the, uh, booth too.

Sevan Matossian (16:22):

Oh my goodness.

Mattew Souza (16:25):

I’ll bring this to you.

Sevan Matossian (16:27):

Oh my God. How come I haven’t do they have shirts that say that?

Mattew Souza (16:33):

I think they do. Yeah. I’ll run and do ’em tomorrow and then are they,

Sevan Matossian (16:39):

I saw that one. Is the person selling that culture? Is it, is that chase and bill?

Mattew Souza (16:45):

I think so. Yeah. It’s all part of the OG. Cuz you see the little puke, the clown?

Sevan Matossian (16:50):

Yeah. Where, where, where, where are they selling those at the venue?

Mattew Souza (16:54):

I, I don’t know if they had enough in time to sell the venue,

Sevan Matossian (16:58):

But that cult one is fucking gnarly.

Mattew Souza (17:01):

And then we ran into these guys too.

Sevan Matossian (17:07):

See if you could oh yeah, yeah, yeah. The Phoenix project. Is that what that is? Yep. Yeah. The rehab thing. Yeah. Yeah. I think Greg won like their person of the year. Once or something.

Mattew Souza (17:15):

Yeah. People have been super cool, crazy, supportive, crazy generous. Especially everybody coming to say hi and stuff like that and you know, telling us, Hey I’m so and so in the comments and uh, or I love the show miss like watch all the time, never miss an episode, like really appreciate your guys’ support and uh, letting us know it’s been really cool meeting everybody.

Sevan Matossian (17:33):

Awesome. Thank you. I’m glad you’re doing all that, uh, DS. I fully appreciate your full send on Dan Bailey day. The thing is this

Mattew Souza (17:40):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (17:41):

I don’t, it’s not, it’s not it’s it’s it sucks when um, you’re so fucking good to someone and then they burn you and are, are part of the, the posse that comes to hang your family for whatever reason may maybe I did something mean to him. Fuck. I don’t know. But as far as I’m concerned, like I used to eat dinner with him and, and my kids and it was all fucking love and kumbaya kumbaya. I did bent over backwards. I thought for him, but either way there could have been misunderstanding. You could have not liked me, but when you participate in getting me fired from a job that was 15 years of my life and you tell people who are really high up that shit. And, and I know a bunch of you who, who did it. And uh, Dan was kind of the most, a little bit of the most hurtful or fucked up.

Sevan Matossian (18:25):

And I don’t, and by no means, think I need an apology at all. It’s not like that at all. But, um, but it is, uh, it’s just part of my war chant. Now your name’s part of my war chant. I, I, I don’t know how to, how to explain it. I don’t even, I don’t even hate the guy, but um, that woke fucking duality, fucking backstabbing shit. Like it’s, it’s just fodder for me to party with. And uh, like part of me, I wish the best for him. I hope God, I hope marriage doesn’t well, we as kids, I hope like he can, you know, live a good life, but, um, the, the, that lack of integrity and that, that intersection in his life and my life intersected and how he chose to, uh, deal with it at the end’s. Now part of my story, when it comes outta my mouth, that motherfucker’s gonna get run over by a bus every time I got nothing nice to say about him in, in that regards, that’s how it ended the worst kind. I think, I think they even have a character like that in the Bible back, stabs people, Julie, Judah Judas, one of those guys.

Sevan Matossian (19:35):

So, but yeah. Thank you. It felt, felt kind of good. It was fun. I, I haven’t I’ve, I’ve alluded to it and, and like I said, a lot of, a lot of your, uh, heroes did that shit. A lot of the people you guys love did that, that I was fucking close with. That could have just called me. Yo dude, what the fuck. Anyway, not Boz, not Boz. He’s a good dude. He’s a good dude. All right, guys. Uh, thanks for checking in, uh, short show right now. Um, I’m gonna leave now while there’s 420 people watching and, uh, I will see you guys, uh, tomorrow morning, bright and early, uh, once again, thank you, California hormones. Uh, DS. Thanks for the kind, uh, comment. And, uh, Jenny Vaccaro. Thank you. And, and Brandon Gill Gillum come. I I’ll bathe I’ll I’ll uh, I’m done bathing dudes, but I’ll wash your car or something for like, I’ll wear something too tight, Kenny, how are you?

Kenny (20:36):

I’m doing well. It’s your just quick statement.

Sevan Matossian (20:40):

You sound like Elvis

Kenny (20:42):

<laugh> well, well thank you for the compliment. <laugh> yeah. Uh, I, I just wanna say, uh, this is, uh, Tia is in the bag this year, but Emma Lawson is telling Mel O Bryant that this next decade after Tia, it’s gonna be a dog fight. Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (20:56):

Hey and wait. I know. And wait until Emma Carey gets in the mix too. And Olivia Kier, it is the women are, yeah.

Kenny (21:03):

They’re more exciting than the guys are. Yeah, it’s insane.

Sevan Matossian (21:07):

I think I Lawson’s gonna be, I think she’s it’s it’s too much. It, it it’s it’s next level shit.

Kenny (21:14):

Yes. Yes. It’s.

Sevan Matossian (21:15):

Yeah. Well, thank you. Thanks for calling and recognizing her. She, yeah, she gets, uh, I’m pumped on her. I can’t wait.

Kenny (21:22):

Yeah, yeah. Go see ya. Uh, you guys have a great podcast. Thanks for saying her brother.

Sevan Matossian (21:26):

Thank you. Bye. Thanks. And bye. Okay. Uh, I will see you guys tomorrow. I’ll see you tomorrow too. SU.
