#529 – Event 5 “The Capitol” Recap

Listen now

Sevan Matossian (00:02):

Bam. We’re live guys. We did it. Uh, let’s start, uh, with, uh, we’ll cruise over to Heidi. Uh, Heidi, what’s up. Hi. Uh, the event is over. Uh, did everyone clear out of there after once it, uh, they sent all the heats that everyone split or?

Heidi (00:21):

Um, no, everybody, once they left on the run, everybody moved to the cafeteria area where the big screen was and everybody’s still kind of hanging out now. They’re looks like they’re kind of going into the stores. Um, but the teams are about to start in the north park. So people are hanging around.

Sevan Matossian (00:37):

Um, is there any chatter? Is there, is, is the Ricky hype train starting? Is there like, as you walk around or do you hear people murmuring Ricky’s name?

Heidi (00:45):

Yeah, I think, I think mostly people are just excited. I mean, obviously there’s a lot of haters still, but people are cheering for him and stuff, so it’s good.

Sevan Matossian (00:55):

And, and people are starting to believe.

Heidi (00:57):

I think so.

Taylor Self (00:59):

My fucking mom was cheering for him. Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (01:01):

<laugh> that’s awesome. Yeah. All all right, Heidi, we’re gonna check in with SU he’s over at the, uh, finish line. Okay. Uh, it looked oh, SU what’s up brother, Matt SU. So there are a lot of cell phones where SU’s at. So there’s a lot of competition there for, uh, self, self tower bandwidth. What’s up Suza. How, how are things?

Mattew Souza  (01:27):

Hey guys, can you hear me? Okay. There’s uh, a lot of

Sevan Matossian (01:30):

Internet. Yeah, we hear you. Great. We, we hear you. Great. Oh,

Mattew Souza  (01:33):

Perfect. Okay. So I’m at the finish line here. This is where they, uh, came across and that line there is where they had to switch the grip on the SEL bag. Um, the athletes just walked walk down, are being, uh, escorted back to the venue now.

Sevan Matossian (01:47):

Um, so what

Mattew Souza  (01:48):

You think is everything just kind of being picked up,

Sevan Matossian (01:50):

Uh, Susan, the carnage for some people, uh, look brutal. Did you like we basically saw, uh, Hailey Adams just fucking collapse.

Mattew Souza  (01:59):

Yeah. It looked terrible. And we got her like whos say she’s limping pretty bad right now. I don’t know if you guys can

Sevan Matossian (02:04):

See it. Who, who is Rebecca’s

Mattew Souza  (02:06):

Rebecca is, yeah. When she came in on the run, um, she was being escorted by, uh, medical, um, through that run.

Sevan Matossian (02:15):

Okay. So that might, so she was hurt even before she picked up the SAF fell bag.

Mattew Souza  (02:20):

Yes. Yeah. She, yes, something happened. I don’t know what exactly, but she has her shoe off, but she barely looks like she could, uh, have light on her left leg there,

Sevan Matossian (02:31):

Uh, Jr. Taylor, when you see someone with their shoe off, um, is that, uh, ankle roll

Taylor Self (02:39):

Potentially, uh, could be a lot of things.

JR Howell (02:43):

I don’t know. Typically when you, I don’t know, typically when you roll your ankle, you wanna leave your shoe on and lace it up tighter if you’ve sprained it,

Sevan Matossian (02:50):

Uh, to offer you some support,

Taylor Self (02:51):

If it’s a high tie.

JR Howell (02:54):

Yeah, yeah. Maybe.

Sevan Matossian (02:56):

Hey, Hey, did she, did she finish? Uh, SU I left the TV to come over to the computer before, uh, the end SU do you know if she actually finished?

Mattew Souza  (03:13):

Hey guys. So, um, I think I’m gonna jump back and try to get back to the venue to, uh, avoid this crowd here. Was there anything else we wanted to see on seed real quick?

Sevan Matossian (03:22):

Do, do you know if Rebecca actually finished?

Mattew Souza  (03:25):

Yeah. Rebecca did

JR Howell (03:26):

Finish. She did finish.

Sevan Matossian (03:30):

All right, Chuck, is that Chuck Carswell there?

Mattew Souza  (03:33):

That should have, yeah, that is

Sevan Matossian (03:38):

Just, I’m just gonna watch for a second. Stefan Roche looks like from the, uh, oh, is that Stefan? I don’t know. I don’t know who that is. Hugs for everybody.

Speaker 6 (03:53):

So is that all that? That is it? Yes.

Sevan Matossian (03:58):

Sounds like Chuck’s making sure everyone’s uh,

Mattew Souza  (04:02):

It’s great. Yeah. Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (04:04):

Check Zo. What’s up. We

Mattew Souza  (04:05):

Know that Rebecca finished. No. Did you see that?

Speaker 6 (04:07):

The very end right there? Absolutely. She was able to finish. There was no time cap for that event, so the athletes were going to finish, but obviously we got other events and meeting were to get back, but she did what most CrossFits do with the hammer down and got it done in time. He did

Mattew Souza  (04:21):

Just got hard. Thanks.

Speaker 6 (04:22):

Appreciate you.

Sevan Matossian (04:24):

Uh, Chuck Carswell, uh, head judge. Uh, he has replaced Adrian Bosman and probably one of the most senior guys over there on the CrossFit, uh, seminar team. Uh, I am hop Ricky’s a beast and I don’t think Jason dropped the bag. Uh, um, once going up the stairs, can we confirm that

Taylor Self (04:41):

He did drop it one time? And I think that’s what he was banking on was to make up more ground than maybe he could on the sandbag carry. Um, still a great finish. It was a, it was a fifth place, right, Jr.

JR Howell (04:54):

Right.

Sevan Matossian (04:55):

Jr. Did you smile at all when he crossed the finish line? What’s up hill Jr?

JR Howell (05:02):

Uh, no, not really. <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (05:04):

Okay, cool. Uh, mal won’t win this year, but will next year, let me tell you something. If Emma Lawson, she mal might just be a placeholder. You better watch out for Emma Lawson that if, if she gets 5% better, um, which I think she can in the next year, um,

Taylor Self (05:19):

I love just the overlooking of Haley. Was that not her third event win for a female.

Sevan Matossian (05:24):

It could have been, but she didn’t win. Could have been okay. That’s right, right, right. I mean, could, could, could have

JR Howell (05:29):

You gotta go back and watch, you gotta go back and watch that man. That’s that like, like rarely do you get to see an elite level athlete get to 100% muscle failure and that’s where she was at. It was crazy. Wow.

Sevan Matossian (05:43):

Oh, oh.

JR Howell (05:43):

What about she still finished? She still finished fifth.

Sevan Matossian (05:47):

Yeah. Um, and what’s kind of amazing about that too, is that we saw that happen to Jason Hopper last year with the Hussel Carey, but still Jason’s was more, um, devastating to his score. Haley still got a decent score, right? Yeah.

JR Howell (06:03):

Yeah. Because Haley was crushing everyone even after the farmer’s Carrie mm-hmm

Sevan Matossian (06:07):

<affirmative> Hey, um, do the, the commentators are saying that basically she switched grips too soon.

Taylor Self (06:13):

I don’t that didn’t, that didn’t cause her to reach muscular fatigue. That was maybe five feet.

Sevan Matossian (06:18):

Nah, they were saying, they were saying like 25 meters or some shit weren’t they?

JR Howell (06:22):

Yeah. I think chase said 15 meters. So about 50 feet is what he thought. Okay. I think maybe at that point when she dropped it, it was gonna take too much effort to get it up to her shoulder just to carry it for 50 feet and drop it again. So she thought I might as well just start carrying it in front now.

Sevan Matossian (06:39):

And it might, and that might, that may have made the difference. That may have been just a, a, a, an error. I mean it, the last 20 feet, it was the last four meters that she couldn’t carry the bag.

JR Howell (06:55):

Yeah. It was really toward the top of the steps. I mean that last, that last flight of steps were, was probably three attempts to get it up.

Sevan Matossian (07:03):

Uh, SU did you wanna jump in and say something? You and Andrew,

Andrew Hiller (07:09):

This is, this is Hiller. I took SU’s phone.

Sevan Matossian (07:11):

Oh, is in your bathroom. Where did he go in the bathroom? Why’d you get such a late start this morning hill in

Andrew Hiller (07:18):

The bathroom. I checked follow him.

Sevan Matossian (07:20):

No. Why did you get such a late start this morning? Is

Andrew Hiller (07:23):

It you’re sounded like a robot. Sorry. I can’t hear you.

Sevan Matossian (07:27):

All right. Fine. You did Dick. Okay. Uh, can we pull up the leaderboard 8:45 AM? Uh, just so you guys know the next event will be starting at 11:00 AM. Pacific standard time. That’s uh, 9:00 AM central time, and then we will come back, live at 12:45 AM. I will remind you guys of this. Okay. Uh, are the, so, okay, so the scores are in. Can we look at the overall ranking? The, um, Laura HVAT took second in that?

Taylor Self (08:04):

No, this okay.

JR Howell (08:05):

Yep. You go.

Sevan Matossian (08:06):

Wow. Okay. Uh, ma oh, oh, these haven’t been updated.

Taylor Self (08:10):

No, the points haven’t

Sevan Matossian (08:11):

Okay. Sorry. Oh, sorry. You the

JR Howell (08:13):

Points haven’t.

Sevan Matossian (08:16):

How could the leaderboard be updated without the main points being updated? Isn’t that a trip?

Taylor Self (08:22):

Brooke, Brooke Wells crushing it. I did not have her up there.

Sevan Matossian (08:26):

Uh, first place was, uh, Gabby Manawa. Second place. Laura HVAT man. Laura needed. That is isn’t that isn’t that right? How’s big to you to me. And third place, Brooke Wells and fourth place, Haley Adams and fifth let’s shake it. Check in with the ultimate numbers guy. Uh, Mike Halpin, Halpin. What’s up brother. You’re live.

Speaker 8 (08:44):

Yeah. I’m pulling the numbers now. So, so what happens is they load in the time score, but they don’t actually load in and recalculate the total overall score until they do any adjustments or things along those lines. Not that this event really calls for that. Like the last two days I’ve obviously had, but, um, just historically it happened a lot in the semi-finals as well. They’re not updating the, or recalculating the and resorting.

Sevan Matossian (09:13):

And what’s the reason for that, that, that doesn’t make sense to me. What’s the reason for that. I mean, if there’s a mistake, there’s a mistake

Taylor Self (09:19):

And they wait, I guess, until they can remedy it before inputting the scores, instead of putting the scores in as they see them and then having to go back and double back and correct them again.

Sevan Matossian (09:29):

I’m assuming it’s just a button you push though. And it just re, it just does it for you,

Taylor Self (09:33):

Not a tech guy,

Sevan Matossian (09:37):

Helping

Speaker 8 (09:37):

Slightly a tech guy. And, uh, there’s a bit more nuance, I guess. Um, so I, I recalculated it myself.

Sevan Matossian (09:47):

Oh, even better. Okay.

Speaker 8 (09:49):

Um,

Sevan Matossian (09:51):

Bring up the leaderboard again, will, so

Speaker 8 (09:53):

We can I, Ricky, well, I won’t say the points, cause the points are a bit all over the place, but just ranking wise after this event, Ricky and first Roman and second Justin and third Jeff aler and fourth labs are and fifth. Um,

Sevan Matossian (10:07):

Did you say Justin, you have Justin and third, did you say if Justin and third

Taylor Self (10:10):

And Roman and second,

Speaker 8 (10:13):

Yeah. About

Taylor Self (10:14):

That makes sense.

Speaker 8 (10:16):

About eight points, eight points between Roman and Justin. Yeah.

Taylor Self (10:19):

That’s big, but,

Speaker 8 (10:21):

But Ricky’s 75 points up.

Taylor Self (10:24):

You can assume Sam quant is over his chronic illness, at least for the time being, cuz that was just a pure capacity event. And he did fourth.

Sevan Matossian (10:34):

How, how

Speaker 8 (10:36):

Seven,

Sevan Matossian (10:36):

How, uh, Ricky is uh, uh, two events away though from losing first place. Also people shouldn’t get carried away and be like, he’s won this thing. Correct? I mean we’ve seen crazy shit. Well every and not like occasionally crazy shit. Like every year we see crazy shit every

Taylor Self (10:50):

Year. Yeah. You can you have, do you agree

Sevan Matossian (10:54):

Happen?

Speaker 8 (10:54):

Well, I mean the perfect store for that here, here to just jump over to the women, the perfect story for that Tia is in post smart tonight.

Sevan Matossian (11:01):

Uh, say that again. You broke up. Can we go back to the women’s leaderboard? Say that again?

Taylor Self (11:04):

They said Tia is in first

Speaker 8 (11:05):

By two. Well, as you said, so the, so yes, yesterday Tia was in eighth. Tia is now in first.

Sevan Matossian (11:11):

Okay.

Speaker 8 (11:11):

And again, they, these aren’t official, these are unofficial.

Sevan Matossian (11:15):

Hey, lemme tell you something everybody’s official as it fucking gets. How dare you. <laugh> you’re on step on podcast. How dare?

Speaker 8 (11:22):

Um, so I have Tia in first by two points.

Sevan Matossian (11:24):

Okay. And, and, and so do I, I did the calculations also. Yep. I have her two point by ahead by 2.2 points, but that’s close enough.

Speaker 8 (11:31):

That’s the Z score. Yep. Um, so, uh, and then mal and second Emma and third Hailey and fourth Daniel, Bri, Brandon, and, well, it looks like Daniel, Brandon and Christie tied. And this, I don’t know the tiebreaker.

Sevan Matossian (11:47):

Oh and, and who, so who did you have in fourth?

Speaker 8 (11:52):

Either. Haley

Sevan Matossian (11:52):

Adams. Haley Adams. Okay. And this isn’t just for this workout. This is for, uh, overall, overall. So Danielle, Brandon jumped up, uh, three spots

JR Howell (12:02):

Looks like

Sevan Matossian (12:03):

It. Okay. Thanks, dude. I appreciate you calling in you’re the best. Yep. Okay, bye. Uh, Mike Halpin, uh, the ultimate numbers guy, uh, let’s check back in with SU and then I wanna come back and ask Jr. And Taylor, what they think about, uh, how Danielle Brandon’s doing.

JR Howell (12:20):

I got like two minutes.

Sevan Matossian (12:22):

I dunno if you guys are America am in this elevator and we

Sevan Matossian (12:27):

Okay. Back to Jr. Jr. Um, Dan, Danielle, Brandon, are we gonna see or keep climbing up the, uh, leaderboard? What don’t we want to see what, like, if you’re a Daniel Brandon fan, what, what are you, what don’t you wanna see pop up?

JR Howell (12:42):

Well, if you go off of semifinals performances and things that she’s talked about, trying to manage some lingering injuries she’s had over the last, you know, year or two, then, you know, we’ve, we’ve already heard that the athletes have been fitted for yolks. You know, that can be a lot of taxing on the low back and on the midline in general. Um, you have to think there’s gonna be some heavy squatting coming. They’ve only done the 63 squat cleans at 95 pounds. So we know there’s gonna be heavy squatting, but look at this next workout. Like I think Danielle will crush that she’s super athletic. So the getting over, however they have to with hands without hands clearing it in the air anding muscle ups. She’s gonna be great on that workout,

Sevan Matossian (13:24):

Uh, to, just to repeat what you said, uh, Jr. Thinks it’s gonna be a great workout for Danielle Brandon. It’s got muscle up, it’s got the, uh, athletic component of jumping over a bunch of different objects and the, and the GD sit ups and then an 84, uh, foot, uh, weighted lunch for this, uh, powerhouse is nothing event win even Jr.

Taylor Self (13:45):

Uh, no,

JR Howell (13:46):

No, I don’t.

Sevan Matossian (13:47):

I don’t think

JR Howell (13:48):

So. <laugh> I, I think, I think this has Tia written all over it.

Taylor Self (13:52):

Yeah. Without a doubt, Tia, potentially Laurel HVA as well. She’s a good jumper and really good at pulling. She’s got good muscle ups

Sevan Matossian (14:01):

Jr. Thanks for checking in. Please keep checking in throughout the day. Your connection was fucking perfect, dude. So anytime please just

JR Howell (14:07):

Agenda coach. I’m sorry.

Sevan Matossian (14:08):

Okay. Please keep checking in. Thank you. Um, uh, so at this point, does it become the Tia Tomi show? Is she gonna just slowly pull away now

Taylor Self (14:18):

Again, it’s early, but it’s hard not to assume that that’s the case. You look back at the events she did poorly in and predominantly you’re looking at the speed skill medley and uh, just that mistake of missing a single under and being set back 20 seconds in a workout where one second is a place. So,

Sevan Matossian (14:37):

Um, they, they must be pretty excited, Brooke and her didn’t they finish one right after each other just now didn’t they come up the stairs together.

Taylor Self (14:46):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (14:47):

Yeah. That’s gotta be good for morale. Let’s check in with, uh, Tyler Watkins, Tyler what’s up brother.

Tyler Watkins (14:53):

Greatest story. This morning, Danielle runs up the hill grabs the, the bags walks about 10 feet. Cooper comes over, says, let’s go, let’s go speed up. She drops. The bags says, shut the fuck up and picks the bags up. <laugh> and Cooper just smiles and walks away.

Taylor Self (15:13):

I fucking hate that. <laugh> that’s funny. I got a story though. I got a story at

Sevan Matossian (15:18):

Granny. James, wait, wait before you, before you tell a story, that was that during the event. Yes, sir.

Tyler Watkins (15:22):

During the event,

Taylor Self (15:23):

Classic.

Sevan Matossian (15:24):

Wait a second.

Tyler Watkins (15:25):

I get it. I’m the same way. I’ve I’ve told my fuck off in the middle of,

Sevan Matossian (15:33):

I I, I wanna hear that again. Basically. What you’re saying is, is Cooper marsh. Her agent was at the place where she was, uh, picking up the, uh, SSA fell bag at the final movement. Just now she ran, she picked it up. She carried it 10 feet. He told her to hurry up. She put it down and said, shut your fucking mouth. Shut the fuck up. Hey, how many people heard that? Oh,

Tyler Watkins (15:53):

It was like, I don’t know, a hundred people standing there.

Taylor Self (15:55):

That’s that’s the problem. <laugh> if it’s you, if it’s you in the open and your coach, that’s fine. But when you got like a hundred people watching you and that’s somebody who does a lot for you and you’re just in front of everyone, shitting on him, hiking your leg up and pissing on him. I, I don’t like that.

Sevan Matossian (16:10):

Hey, I don’t know. I don’t know. I love it.

Tyler Watkins (16:13):

I love it. He handled it like a champ too. He

Sevan Matossian (16:15):

Was, you gotta know what you’re you gotta know what you’re getting yourself into

Taylor Self (16:19):

At, at granite games in 2018, there was this hill run event and we were walking. The guys were walking down the hill as the women were going. And there’s this one girl, Amanda Goodman. I think she’s like an OPEX girl. Yep. Was running up. She was in last place and some of the guys were like, you got this, you got this. And she stops, stops in the workout. Looks over and goes, shut the fuck up. I know I got this. And we were just like, whoa, we’ll never cheer you on again.

Sevan Matossian (16:41):

Oh, wow.

Taylor Self (16:42):

Yeah. That’s the one. That’s what exact exactly. TJ, I got butt hurt. And so did the rest of the men. It’s just like

Sevan Matossian (16:48):

<laugh>. Hey, unnecessary. You know, what’s crazy though. She, um, that’s not, uh, I’ve never even heard Amanda Goodman talk in all the years. I did the behind the scenes. I never heard her say a fucking word.

Taylor Self (16:59):

She said that to us. That’s the thing. If you can open your mouth and say, shut the fuck up and work out, you should probably be going faster.

Sevan Matossian (17:06):

That’s fucking awesome. I’m sending out some links here. Uh, see if we can lure some people in with their star power. Go ahead. SU

Mattew Souza  (17:16):

I’m reporting live from inside the bad mobile right now.

Sevan Matossian (17:20):

Uh, what are you guys doing?

Mattew Souza  (17:21):

We’re headed back to the event, trying to get our way out of, uh, the downtown area.

Sevan Matossian (17:28):

Uh, are you guys gonna go over to that, uh, to that warm up area where the athletes enter again and see if you can catch them as they’re coming back?

Mattew Souza  (17:35):

Yeah, exactly. That’s like the media room. So we’re gonna go right back there and just hang out and see who we could catch. Perfect.

Sevan Matossian (17:40):

Okay. Awesome.

Mattew Souza  (17:42):

And then, uh, there, there will be a noble or a, uh, no rep rally in front of the noble booth today as well.

Sevan Matossian (17:49):

No, shit. What time is that at?

Mattew Souza  (17:53):

Andrew? What time is the uh, no rep rally 2 30, 2 30.

Sevan Matossian (17:57):

Wow. Two 30 central time. If you are at the event, come to the noble booth, uh, for the no rep rally. That’s fantastic. So just you just cruised over there, even if you don’t have a no rep shirt, are you welcome?

Mattew Souza  (18:11):

Yes, of course. Yes. If you want to come, hang out, see everybody we’ll begin some shirts and you, you will have about 15 or so minutes before you gotta head to the Coliseum.

Sevan Matossian (18:20):

Oh, oh right. Because for the event that starts at, uh, 2 45

Mattew Souza  (18:27):

That’s

Sevan Matossian (18:29):

That’s not a dusty, that’s not a dusty ass couch. That’s that’s not a dusty ass. It’s

Mattew Souza  (18:34):

Great to have.

Sevan Matossian (18:36):

Thank you. As far as Jamal Smith Cooper understands her Headspace in that moment. Yeah. What? We don’t know. Oh, I can’t say that. I can’t say that. I can’t say that.

Taylor Self (18:45):

Yeah. Let me tell us, Hey, just go to the Instagram page self-made training program and click the link

Sevan Matossian (18:50):

To go to go. Where to get what sign

Taylor Self (18:52):

Up for my program.

Sevan Matossian (18:53):

Yes. Yes. If you wanna donate money for a new couch for me, go to the self-made training program and click the link. Not only will you buy me a new couch, but you’ll get, uh, some fantastic programming. When are you gonna, when are you gonna, when are you gonna, I need to see, I need to see one of these workouts and fuck one year workouts up.

Taylor Self (19:10):

Do one. You should do the burpee one. It’d be perfect for you. It was the, the one, uh, Jim Lavansky, uh, 365 MERF and hero guy. He did it. He told you to do it.

Sevan Matossian (19:20):

What’s the workout. What was it?

Taylor Self (19:22):

Zero to five minutes, 50 bar facing burpees for time, five to 10 minutes, 50 burpees to a 12 inch target for time, the last chance standard and then 10 to finish 50 burpee. Pullups that middle part would be terrible.

Sevan Matossian (19:40):

And, and you get a, you get a break. If

Taylor Self (19:43):

You get as much of a break as you earn. So from zero to five, you’ve got 50 mark facing burpees as fast as you can, five to 10, another 50 tend to finish the 50 burpy

Sevan Matossian (19:51):

Pull ups. And what, how do you score it then?

Taylor Self (19:54):

Uh, score of each triple or, or sorry, score of each 50 burpy section.

Sevan Matossian (19:58):

Okay. When you finish

Taylor Self (19:59):

First score, second course score third score.

Sevan Matossian (20:01):

Okay. Can’t wait, uh, Boz program. One of the best events ever with this one, everyone felt like Ricky has felt, everyone felt like Ricky has felt these past four years tested.

Taylor Self (20:15):

Oh shit. That was an awesome workout. That was so fucking

Sevan Matossian (20:17):

Cool. This guy’s a poet Kevo. Uh, well said, buddy, um, is Danielle’s fuck off to the judge. Any different than Ryan Fisher’s meltdown was that, uh, it wasn’t a fuck off to the judge. It was to her agent,

Taylor Self (20:30):

But they were also talking about on the speed. Medley speed, skill medley. She, she yelled at her judge and yelled. What the fuck at her judge?

Sevan Matossian (20:39):

Oh, uh, it’s very, I think it’s very different than what I think. Ryan Fisher threatened to kill his judge. Yeah. Ryan Fisher kill you.

Taylor Self (20:46):

He had a neck vein bulging yelling at his judge. That’s a little crazy.

Sevan Matossian (20:50):

Hey, if you did a, if you did a movement, I don’t know. Fuck. What do I know? I’ve never competed, but if, if you, if you’ve done a movement I’m and, and you, uh, and the judge doesn’t, it gives you a no rep and you know, you did it. I think of what the fuck is. Okay. I mean, even if you’re just talking to yourself,

Taylor Self (21:09):

No, actually we’re gonna do, I, I get what you’re saying, I guess where I disagree about it and I’m not really not, but about it. I just think you’re wasting seconds saying what the fuck, rather than just making the adjustment and doing the rep again. So you’re just allowing your emotions to get in the way of potentially getting a better score because you gotta no rep that you feel like is undeserved. Your feelings are kind of irrelevant in the middle of a competition. You should be the one shutting the fuck up.

Sevan Matossian (21:33):

Just moving forward. Just keep moving forward. Uh, oh, you, you you’re muted. Go ahead, Tyler, go ahead. You’re muted.

Tyler Watkins (21:40):

Um, it is weird cuz in other sports we like, they do check the reps, but they have time, you know, usually it’s during time out or something like that, it’s it is a little weird. So it’s like part of me does think, yeah, like maybe throw your judge some, some heat every now and again. But then at the same time you are wasting seconds.

Sevan Matossian (21:57):

She was talking. I remember while she was doing the, the jump roping, she was still talking to a judge. It was pretty.

Tyler Watkins (22:02):

That was different though, because it was like, what is the sta like? I think she was legitimately confused. What do I do here? So at that point, like I totally get put stuff down and be like, what do you want me to do?

Taylor Self (22:12):

You’ve also gotta, yeah. You’ve also gotta remember that the second that you say that or treat a judge like that, you’re just, you’re just asking for more issues. Yeah.

Tyler Watkins (22:21):

I mean,

Taylor Self (22:21):

You have to be a people person to a degree. You go out there, shake the judge’s hand and you respect him. If they tell you you’re doing something wrong. Hey,

Sevan Matossian (22:27):

What do I use? I don’t know if Danielle Brandon told me to shut the fuck up. I’d get aroused. What if he yelled back? What if he I’d yell back at her? No, you shut the fuck up. Hey, can the judge do that?

Tyler Watkins (22:38):

They’d probably get fired, but Hey, you can do whatever you want.

Sevan Matossian (22:41):

<laugh> um, there was another, did you guys see a Wimbleton this year with, uh, joke, AIC? I can’t remember the guy’s plan. Basically. The guy fought, the guy he played against was fighting with the whole stadium, the judges, his, his coaches the entire time. It was amazing. Like the entire time after every point he talks shit. It was, it was, it was awesome. You know, that guy’s name will or Caleb, that guy, it was ki goes, yeah, you gotta see that match the finals in Wimbleton it was amazing. Daniel Brandon speaks the same in and out of competition, nothing wrong with it. There is, there is a piece to that, right? That at least it’s consistent. Jeremy. I don’t know if, if that justifies it. Um,

Tyler Watkins (23:22):

It’s funny though. I have like, cuz we, I was criticizing tutor Magda the other day for kind of being, you know, a little moody after the jump rope event. Yeah. But then yeah, I guess I have a double standard cuz I think it’s, it’s cool for Danielle to do it, but it was a little lame for him to do it.

Sevan Matossian (23:38):

He um, yeah, he, he

Taylor Self (23:40):

It’s the, well it’s the same. You look at how Jason reacted during that snatch workout last year, people were freaking out and it’s the same reaction. It’s emotional reaction. Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (23:50):

Uh, let’s look at the, uh, workout that’s coming up. Um, when Nick, uh, uh, I don’t know her last name. Nicky brazer is that ITER Nicky brazer when she was, when she was uh, interviewing, uh, Gabriel Maga with the winner and, and Ricky garage, she goes, okay, they’ve fully recovered. And I’m like really

Taylor Self (24:13):

Recovered. <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (24:16):

Uh, there, there, there will be no fully recovered, right? For any of the athletes, even with a good night’s sleep like there, there’re now into the everyone’s into the damage zone.

Tyler Watkins (24:27):

I think that’s what the test is on the, on, on this next one is like your ability to recover, going into, up and over. So it’s gonna separate them in from the, from the boys on this one, you know, how well did you recover going into the up and over?

Sevan Matossian (24:42):

What do you think? Taylor, the, the people who, um, wanna take a break cuz they just can’t take anymore. Where are they gonna take a break here?

Taylor Self (24:49):

There’s there’s not really a break in this workout there isn’t the pull up is too short. It’s too small of a set for even the females to be resting on the jump overs. Uh, we’re assuming that the difficulty decreases the workout goes, it could increase, but we’re gonna assume that it decreases as the workout goes. Um, and then 30 GDS is no place to rest in a three round workout. You should be sprinting the GDS doing the muscle ups unbroken, and then you’ve gotta find a steady cadence on the jump overs that keep you moving. And I think the people that get to the lunge and can lunge that as close to unbroken as possible are gonna win the workout.

Tyler Watkins (25:25):

Are you gonna, are we gonna see a lot of unbroken, all three sets on the muscle ups?

Taylor Self (25:30):

Oh, in the men’s field. I think most of the field will do all 12, all three sets of 12 unbroken, a lot, not most, maybe not wrong, not most of the field, but a lot of the field will do all three sets up

Tyler Watkins (25:40):

The upper part of the field,

Taylor Self (25:41):

At least 10 men, at least 10 men.

Sevan Matossian (25:43):

So if, if you stop and put your hands on your hips or on your, uh, thighs and this one, you you’re not top 10,

Taylor Self (25:49):

Correct?

Sevan Matossian (25:50):

This is so you see this almost as, uh, a, a kind of a pace. I know this is a bit of a paradox, but uh, a pace, uh, pace sprint

Taylor Self (25:59):

It’s I, I look at this workout and I think of its similar to like a mile run. It’s not a 400, but it’s not slow. And you, and there’s not much there’s a strategy to it. Absolutely. But it’s, it’s fast.

Sevan Matossian (26:11):

Uh, the, the grip, well, will the muscles be, um, bothered by any of the, uh, grip work that they in, in, in that chest work and that holding work that they did from this last workout,

Taylor Self (26:22):

They will for sure be challenged. But I, again, I don’t expect three sets of 12 to be a huge obstacle for most of the men’s field. And I don’t expect it to be a huge obstacle for a lot of the women’s field either

Tyler Watkins (26:35):

After the gymnastics day, a couple days ago.

Sevan Matossian (26:39):

Say that again, Tyler. So

Tyler Watkins (26:40):

Like alls they did was gymnastics pressing triceps on the, the first day. I I’m wondering going, like, you know, you, you’re starting to get doms now. Probably I’m wondering if they’re gonna feel that on the, on the muscle

Taylor Self (26:51):

Ups they’ll feel it. But again, it’s this workout is nothing like last year’s muscle up workout where you’ve got 48 in a row mm-hmm <affirmative> um, this is just so different and the, and the dose is appropriate, I think. Um, but it’s not gonna, it’s not the muscle ups that are gonna hold people back. It’s not a muscle up workout. I think it’s a very well-balanced workout

Sevan Matossian (27:12):

Car Saunders. Uh, will she be top five for this?

Taylor Self (27:20):

No.

Sevan Matossian (27:21):

No. Uh, can we, can we see the women’s leaderboard? How did Karara do on this last workout?

Tyler Watkins (27:27):

Fair.

Sevan Matossian (27:32):

Have, have we got any more word about, uh, Rebecca Fu uh, not Rebecca fus Lee, uh, Emily, Ralph, have we heard anything more, by the way

Tyler Watkins (27:38):

She had, uh, a double, uh, what was it called? A blood clot, two blood clots.

Caleb Beaver (27:46):

She said that she started eating solid foods today. So yeah, it’s, I think she’ll have a pretty quick recovery, especially since she’s already pretty fit, but otherwise that’s pretty much it.

Tyler Watkins (27:56):

I saw her husband this morning, so I know that like he’s not standing right next, next to her. So that’s good.

Sevan Matossian (28:02):

You saw him at the event at the venue? Yeah,

Tyler Watkins (28:05):

I saw him at Starbucks. Yeah.

Taylor Self (28:07):

Hey, can you pull the workout back up cuz I didn’t see if they specified, if it was front rack or overhead lung it’s front. Definitely not. It’s front rack. Okay. Yeah.

Taylor Self (28:15):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (28:16):

Hey, um, 185 pounds. Do do the guys do that unbroken 1 25 for the women unbroken

Taylor Self (28:21):

84 feet. I don’t

Tyler Watkins (28:25):

3 84.

Taylor Self (28:27):

It’ll be hard. It’ll be hard. I don’t think a lot of ’em do it. I’m broken. And if somebody does, it’ll be like two or three people. I don’t, you know,

Tyler Watkins (28:34):

It’s 28 steps. That’s yeah,

Taylor Self (28:36):

That’s a lot of steps, but, and I’m not necessarily thinking about, uh, the legs as much as I’m thinking about the grip and holding the axle bar on the

Tyler Watkins (28:44):

No. Yeah, cuz you’re, you’re gonna be, your midline is gonna be fatigued and so just, yeah, that pressure sitting on you for that long,

Taylor Self (28:49):

It’ll be the grip and it’ll be, if they allow athletes to do this, it’ll be, we may see some more going on broken,

Sevan Matossian (28:55):

Uh, Jacqueline Robinson. Thank you. You’re awesome. Is always, you’re all you’ve always been there. Frank. Thank you. Don’t stand too close to the fire. Uh, ging. Good ninja. Have they specified how the axle bar will be head overhead front rack, front rack. Perfect timing. You probably could have got that answer for free, but thank you for the $10. Uh, can we go back and look at the, at the, um, leaderboard here, Tyler, when you look at this, is there any, I guess I, I guess it hasn’t been updated yet, so we don’t know for sure what place everyone’s in, but is there any, can you rank them, uh, in order, uh, by, um, first through whatever, not, uh, not by the event, but overall in their totality. Uh, is there anyone after right now that you think is completely out? Like how far down do we have to go? Where it’s like, Hey, you’re mathematically toast. Wait, what do you mean out? Like there there’s like, there’s no chance of there’s no chance them. There’s no chance of them winning the games.
