#437 – Granite Games Event 4 Recap | Justin Medeiros, Justin Cotler, Matt Dlugos, Townsend, Hiller, Howell, Self

Sevan Matossian (00:02):

Bam more live

Andrew Hiller (00:04):

About time.

Sevan Matossian (00:06):

There is a position at CrossFit, Inc. That is the highest position. The position of the most integrity, the position, the most respected position of all. And it’s called the CrossFit red shirt. The CrossFit red shirt are the people who teach the CrossFit level one. I would argue if you haven’t taken your level one that you’re maybe not even a full full-blooded CrossFitter, it’s been life changing for me. It’s been life changing for 99.9%, every thousand people who tell me it’s life changing. There’s one person who says it’s not, it’s easy to go on the internet and find out, find someone who says that these two days that you spend taking your crossroad level one are better than four years at a, uh, uh, getting a kinesiology degree from some big, great university

Andrew Hiller (00:58):

From someone who has both. I can, I can second bet

Sevan Matossian (01:02):

Spoken by Andrew Hiller.

Andrew Hiller (01:06):

Can you see how degrees

Sevan Matossian (01:08):

Are you trying to cancel? And, and, and I’m invoking emotional appeal here because I, cuz I don’t understand what, uh, what, um, uh, Alex Parker is doing. I have no clue. I listened to her complaints. I have no clue. She’s upset. Cuz he talked about a dude who had some cool hair dye and cuz chase doesn’t wanna live in Philly. Alex, nobody wants to live in Philly. <laugh>

Mattew Ouza (01:31):

I talked her on

Sevan Matossian (01:32):

Instagram. You’ve done something horrible in your past life. If you live in Philly or San Francisco or Portland or Canada,

Mattew Ouza (01:40):

<laugh> <laugh>,

Sevan Matossian (01:42):

You’re trying to cancel a red shirt. You’re trying to cancel a guy. You’re trying to cancel a guy who was across the games athlete in 2010. And he went to the sectionals. He won every single event, first place and every single event, he went to the regionals three times he went to the games. He’s coached two regional teams. He’s sorry. He’s coached four regional teams. He’s been on the regional teams twice. He coached a master games athlete. He’s been an affiliate owner for nine years. Did I mention he’s a, he was a fucking red shirt.

Sevan Matossian (02:15):

He disseminates the DNA of this society, of this culture, of this lifestyle that saves people’s lives. Have you done that? Were you on the team? I’m not sure. I know you were on the demo team. I dunno if you were a red shirt. I don’t know what happens to red shirts who turn in other red shirts like that. Try to cancel them. He owns an affiliate for nine years. He owns an affiliate. Cause on seminar staff as an L one guy for seven years, he went around and shared this knowledge. He saved. He has saved people’s lives. I’d be willing to bet your life and your partner’s life on it. He literally has pioneered how broadcasting is done for the CrossFit games. Have you ever gone over to ESPN? You compared him to golf to, to like fuck that you compared him to golf analysts. Are you outta your fucking mind? Next? You’re gonna compare him to the Olympics. Hey that doesn’t invoke like, oh my God. He, he, he must be so wrong because he doesn’t do it the way the golf guys do it please.

Andrew Hiller (03:24):

Couple of people don’t know.

Mattew Ouza (03:25):

I mean

Sevan Matossian (03:25):

That’s ridiculous. I’m sorry. Say that again.

Andrew Hiller (03:28):

Couple of people don’t know what you’re talking about yet.

Sevan Matossian (03:30):

You can go over to her Instagram account. She’s trying to cancel chase. Hey, if you had any balls, if you had any integrity, any dignity, any pride, any self worth, any caring when you saw whatever he did that upset you because he said something about a city or about someone’s hair color. You would’ve DMed him in Instagram. He’s so accessible. Only 15 people listen in the world, listen to his podcast. You can just address him on his podcast.

Mattew Ouza (03:59):

<laugh> take him. <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (04:01):

Thank you. I thought that was good too. Just Jay, why do you have to, why? Why? Why would you start a, a petition

Mattew Ouza (04:08):

To fire

Sevan Matossian (04:09):

Him, to fire him? You know he said dad and he has two kids.

Mattew Ouza (04:13):

We don’t care about that. Only my opinion.

Andrew Hiller (04:15):

All we care about is that he says the right things on the nice TV show. Yeah.

Mattew Ouza (04:19):

Fucking ridiculous.

Sevan Matossian (04:20):

You, you are, you are, you are invoking a mob to attack a guy. You know who else has done that? Right? That’s like witch hunt shit. You, you, you know that G B Q flag. Won’t shouldn’t tolerate that shit. Right? You don’t like something that someone says, so you invoke the mob to come after him. It’s cowardice. It, it lacks, integrity, lacks, dignity. It’s it. You have no soul. You have no heart. It’s brutal. It doesn’t matter what he said. Address him in his DMS. First, give him a fucking chance.

Mattew Ouza (04:55):

He said should too many times

Sevan Matossian (04:57):

I did or he did.

Mattew Ouza (04:58):

<laugh> he did. He did no allegedly. That’s

Andrew Hiller (05:01):

What I, that was one of the complaints.

Mattew Ouza (05:03):

That’s what I

Sevan Matossian (05:03):

Got this, this woke bully crowd stuff will never be tolerated by anyone on this. Oh shoot. Did I send James a uh, well, someone I didn’t send James towns in a link.

Andrew Hiller (05:12):

I heard he is not showing up. Cuz this guy got beat by my guy. Oh,

Mattew Ouza (05:15):

Show,

Sevan Matossian (05:16):

Hold on.

Mattew Ouza (05:16):

Hold on. Who is your guy? Who is your guy?

Andrew Hiller (05:19):

Anthony Davis. Anthony Davis. AJ.

Sevan Matossian (05:22):

Oh shoot. Cause I don’t have him in my computer. I only have him in my phone. Damn

Mattew Ouza (05:26):

It. My pick shit. The bed for me

Sevan Matossian (05:27):

In front of my right in front of my, my, my monologue. See real, this shit never happens to real media.

Mattew Ouza (05:33):

<laugh>

Andrew Hiller (05:35):

All right. Well I don’t think a lot of people still know what’s going on. So I think her name is Alex Parker put out a post about chase Ingram, commentating on the cross state games and he’s been doing so. And he’s been doing this for a long time and he has a lot to talk about. And I think a lot of people like to watch my YouTube channel because I come from a perspective of someone in like the Taylor self type position. And for the most part, these people don’t have time to do so. But chase Ingram is a former CrossFit games, competitor. And Sev just told us all about that. And she’s saying, and

Sevan Matossian (06:04):

An affiliate owner and an L one shirt and an L one trainer, a red shirt,

Andrew Hiller (06:08):

All, all of those things. Yeah. Yeah. Um, so he has a bunch of perspective to speak from and if any, anybody should be commentating on the games he should be doing. So, and a lot of people don’t understand how hard it is for people like him to do the things that he’s doing and saying the things that he’s saying as he’s doing it lifetime. And I think he does a pretty damn good job and everyone kind of hates on him and they don’t understand that he’s gotta balance.

Sevan Matossian (06:26):

No, I don’t think a lot of people hate on him. I don’t think, I think it’s a, it’s a, it’s a, it’s a vocal minority,

Andrew Hiller (06:32):

I guess it’s probably yeah. The vocal minority. Yeah. And I, I wrote it in the, the, the pitch petition, the, the, so there’s two petitions. <laugh> should we, should we bring that up? Break down

Sevan Matossian (06:42):

The petitions? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,

Andrew Hiller (06:43):

Yeah. It there’s two petitions. There’s the petitions that Alex made that they should bring like sign. Go ahead. What’s up.

Sevan Matossian (06:48):

Sorry. Yes. Just so you know, the, the, the cross and that’s the only reason why I’m bringing this up, cuz CrossFit will fucking bend the need of fucking idiot icy like this

Andrew Hiller (06:58):

Always. And, and that’s kind of where I did everything

Sevan Matossian (07:01):

Run by this

Andrew Hiller (07:02):

Go ahead is, is like we can’t lose what we are. I mean, chase is part of the good one. I mean he, he right. Would you guys argue anything differently, dude?

Sevan Matossian (07:11):

He’s given his life to it. If any, I fought with chase many times, tons of people have fought with chase. Just call him up and fight with him. He’s a fucking, he’s just like don’t, don’t like start a petition to get the dude canceled. He’s one of us like, is that what you would do to a family member? I mean, Alex, you’re in this family, you and Meredith are in the family. Why are you doing that?

Andrew Hiller (07:31):

He’s talked plenty of shit to me. So <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (07:33):

Yeah. Yeah. He talks crazy shit. Yeah. He’s talked a ton of shit to Hiller

Andrew Hiller (07:39):

And I, I guess the only thing is like Tom Brady to sign a $375 million contract over the 10 years upon the, the exit of his NFL career. And it’s because he can speak from experience and nobody else is going to be able to speak from experience that they would possibly replace him with. And that’s one of the biggest issues. And I think I’ve heard Sevan talk about that before too. It’s like, do you want some random commentator coming in? Try to like, guess what a pull up looks like and try to commentate on it. That would be the worst case scenario.

Taylor Self (08:08):

Terrible. Well, and that’s the thing that you can oh shit. <laugh>

Andrew Hiller (08:14):

An intruder alert

Sevan Matossian (08:17):

Anyway. Okay. So here’s the thing. Hiller started a pod, uh, uh, link. I don’t know why it’s not pinned to the top up here, but it should be pinned up.

Mattew Ouza (08:24):

It is it’s it’s pinned up. You just can’t see it on this side. It is

Sevan Matossian (08:26):

On YouTube. Oh, okay. Oh, beautiful. Good. Yeah. We’re good to go. Thank you. Yep. Uh, and uh, so if, if, if you wanna just, we’re just doing it kind of it’s part of joke, but to build a wall, please go over there. Take two seconds to go over there, sign it. Um, I, I just don’t tolerate this. I, I, I, I, I don’t wanna cancel. I don’t wanna kick anyone off. I don’t wanna cancel, um, Tommy or Sean or, or I don’t want anyone. I don’t want anyone kick off. I don’t wanna kick off James Hobart. I’ll tolerate him. <laugh> and, and just to, to do that to a red shirt, it’s just, it’s just gross to me. Okay. Okay. We’re having a guest on everyone. Be cool. Act cool. Hey, Hey.

Justin Cotler (09:09):

Hey.

Sevan Matossian (09:10):

Hey, what’s up? Hey,

Justin Cotler (09:11):

How you guys doing?

Sevan Matossian (09:12):

Good. How are you?

Justin Cotler (09:14):

I’m fucking annoyed. That’s what I

Sevan Matossian (09:16):

Tell boy. They cut the ropes. Someone sent the picture, they cut the ropes.

Justin Cotler (09:20):

Now here’s the deal. Yeah. If you’re short, you’re allowed to have a riser,

Sevan Matossian (09:25):

Right? Yes. Yes.

Justin Cotler (09:26):

But if you’re six foot four, you have to fucking do pullups on a 92 inch bar where your feet hit the fucking ground. Every single rep. I saw that. And you know what, at the end of the day, you try that, you try set yourself up on a pullup bar that you literally, that your elbow goes up to and try to do 72 butterfly pull up. Okay. And see how your fitness looks. That’s all I have to fucking

Sevan Matossian (09:56):

Say. Uh, Hiller does, uh, Mr. Kotler have a point.

Andrew Hiller (10:00):

I had a teammate back in the day who is six, three. And the issue that we had was that everybody had the same distance spars. He had the issue that Justin’s bringing up, which is that one is too short. And two, when he is that tall and need to do Syncro, pullups, there’s no room for both people. So yeah. And they don’t, they they’ve never taken into account the taller athletes. He’s he’s

Justin Cotler (10:18):

Gotta it’s guys. I, I gotta be honest with you. It’s brutal. And I, you know, Brent and I had the conversation and Brent’s been trying to get it changed. And last year, actually at west coast, they made a couple of concessions. They, they, they moved Matt’s who’s right here, by the way, Mattie, I know Mattie Degos um, uh,

Andrew Hiller (10:39):

That’s tall one.

Justin Cotler (10:40):

Yeah. They, they moved his rings up six inches. Now this afternoon’s workout. He, he was hitting his feet on every rep in the rings. You can hear it skimming. Now they’re at 96 inches. So at least it’s tolerable, but these bars are at 92 inches and he literally can’t extend his hips. So when he’s trying to there’s no Kip, there’s no leg whip. There’s it’s it’s. And by the end, he’s just blown up in a workout. That is so good for him. And so frustrated. I mean, you guys saw what he did in quarters with those power snatches. And he was in first place going to the fucking Chester of bars. And I hate to be this guy. Like, it really bothers me

Sevan Matossian (11:18):

To, I’ve never seen you like this, actually. No,

Justin Cotler (11:20):

It’s frustrating, man, but I’m gonna stick up for my guys. I’m always gonna stick up with my guys. And at the end of the day, it’s just, it’s not, it’s just not cool. Like it’s not cool. You know? And, and if that’s what I’m saying, if you, if you’re vertically challenged, you get to have a riser. And in some cases you get to have two risers, but when you’re, when you’re his height, you know, and, and so it’s like, what do I say? You know what I mean? It’s like, what do I say at the end of the workout? Cuz we practice on a short-ish bar, but this is, I’ve never seen anything. Like what I just saw. And I got guys standing Shane or came up to me. He doesn’t have skin in the game, came up to me after the workout was like, that is so fucked up. What I just watched. Like it would be so frustrating to have your feet hit the ground on every single rep. So, but

Sevan Matossian (12:05):

I’m gonna ask you to explain why the body mechanics of it for the, for those of us who are, um, um, not as smart, not don’t understand. Kippy like we still do strict pullups, but I wanna ask Taylor something really quick in Jr. And Hiller and SU if you guys can on this, where else is there something comparable to this where they’re inflexible with the equipment that height or weight or somebody mechanics actually, um, uh, makes a difference. Is there anywhere else? Is there precedent anywhere else where this happens? How about, how about, let me ask you this. Have they ever used a short bar and a snatch in, in, in the big and it messes with the big guys? Has that ever happened?

Taylor Self (12:42):

No. Um, they at regionals 2018, but I don’t think it messed with the big guys. It was a light enough weight. I don’t think there’s, I don’t think there’s anything. Uh, yeah, this is,

Sevan Matossian (12:52):

So this pull up thing, cuz this has been going on forever, right? Well this is since day one of CrossFit. It’s either the, the, the rings or the bars. There’s always been someone who’s too, not too tall, but taller than what’s ideal for them.

Taylor Self (13:03):

Well, well the, the problem is what he’s saying is if they give someone like Colton the riser, then they gotta make the concession for someone like Matt.

Justin Cotler (13:09):

Absolutely.

Taylor Self (13:10):

If you don’t get Colton, the riser, he can’t reach the fucking bar and then he’s dead. Correct.

Justin Cotler (13:14):

And, and there you go. But if Matt can’t, if, if they’re not gonna raise the bar for him, they shouldn’t give anyone a fucking riser. I mean that then, then you’re leveling the playing field. If you got standardized bar Heights and standardized ring Heights, then you shouldn’t allow risers. If you’re gonna penalize the tall gas,

Sevan Matossian (13:29):

Hey, the place riots though, you don’t give Colton a riser and the place riots people, fucking people come outta stands. That’s probably true. It’s it’s cuz no one loves your boy Degos that they did riot or in OWK.

Justin Cotler (13:41):

I mean I do, you know, all right. All

Sevan Matossian (13:43):

Well. And you’re riot and you are riding <laugh> listen. So tell me what the mechanics are that, I mean basically the feet hit the ground, right? He can’t do every

Justin Cotler (13:50):

Single rep. His feet hit the ground. And also, Hey,

Sevan Matossian (13:54):

That sounds dangerous actually.

Justin Cotler (13:55):

Oh it is fucking dangerous. Mm-hmm <affirmative> there’s no question. He’s done that on a, on a, on a muscle up last year in warmups in west coach, which is actually why they changed it. He hit the ground on a Kip and you could easily hurt yourself. Mm-hmm <affirmative> you know what I mean? So it’s God, I, you know, I mean, we can go on to a different topic, but I’m just I’m fired up cuz it just happened. And it was so frustrating to watch because it was one of those workouts. Listen, he’s, you know, he’s, he’s an 11th coming into the workout and you’re right in striking distance. You’re 36 points from eighth place, which is last chance qualifier. And it’s a workout he should be able to eat on and you just, you know, you gotta deal with that. And it’s just hard when it’s not a level playing field. That’s all, that’s all I’m

Sevan Matossian (14:34):

Saying MLK 52 40 says you can fuck your back.

Justin Cotler (14:39):

Oh yeah. You can fuck a lot of stuff. Hip flexers back. You can hurt a knee. There’s a lot of stuff you could you’ll break your fucking foot.

Sevan Matossian (14:46):

Honestly. Yeah. That’s what I was thinking. Thinking about it. Yeah. Yeah. I got a back. That’s been fucked being, been fucked for like five years straight <laugh> I don’t like it at all, but, but not because my feet dragged the ground on some pull ups. Um, how, what do you suggest they do Justin? Yeah. Can they just unscrew the side and raise it? The, the, the, I mean, what did you see

Justin Cotler (15:05):

The raise? Am I still on?

Sevan Matossian (15:08):

Yeah. You’re still on. Yeah. Yes.

Justin Cotler (15:10):

Um, what’s I think honestly, if they raised, if they raised a bar bar six inches and prior to the competition, I, you know, Matt doesn’t

Sevan Matossian (15:21):

Even, could they have done that right then and there. Let me ask you that. Could they have just done that? Was there a place where they could just unscrew a couple bolts and do it? They

Justin Cotler (15:27):

Could so easily. It takes five seconds. The rings are clipped too. It literally takes five seconds.

Sevan Matossian (15:33):

Hey Justin, Hey Justin. They can give Danielle, Brandon her own fucking lane for some fucking mystery virus that no one’s ever seen, but they can’t fucking raise the bar for this fucking dude.

Justin Cotler (15:44):

There you go.

Sevan Matossian (15:46):

I’m glad I thought of that. I’d have been angry if I was in bed tonight. Didn’t get that. I realize I didn’t get that in. That was great. Nailed it. Yep. Crazy. Uh, what do they say? What do they say? Are they compassionate? Are they nice? Is, does Justin Berg even listen to you? Or is it just like, is it the same nonsense we hear ’em doing the, in the, um,

Justin Cotler (16:02):

It’s the same. It’s so far it’s been the same nonsense.

Sevan Matossian (16:04):

Yeah. It’s just words falling out of his mouth. I can’t even understand what they mean. Uh,

Justin Cotler (16:08):

It’s just, they don’t really, they don’t really listen. You know,

Sevan Matossian (16:13):

I wanna ask your opinion on what we see happening or what we saw happen to um, uh, Chandler OWK and not quite the extent Travis mayor, but not in this last workout, but two workouts to go. We saw Travis not do nearly as well as like anyone would’ve thought he’d done. We saw OWK have trouble wa exiting the stadium. Um, and we saw, uh, we, we heard that Chandler Smith needed, uh, medical assistance getting off the field. What was that? The workout, the heat. Can you give us any ideas?

Justin Cotler (16:38):

Definitely. Wasn’t the heat. It’s not hot. He guys,

Sevan Matossian (16:41):

Okay. No,

Justin Cotler (16:42):

It’s not the heat. Um, mean, I think it was a bit of the workout and you know, possible. I mean, I don’t know, it could be nerves, it could be hydration. It could be nutrition. Who knows. I mean, I’m not in those guys’ camp, but Chandler definitely wasn’t right. Like you could see it. He was pretty fucked up. Actually it reminded me a little bit of what Ricky went through and for Ricky, it was cuz he was vomiting all morning and, and uh, and wasn’t able to keep any nutrition and literally vomited everything out like 20 minutes before that first workout. But uh, that’s what it looked like to me on, on Chandler. Um, so Kowski looks okay. I mean he, you know, he, he looks fine. He he’s, he’s gotta be top five. Doesn’t he? He’s still the top

Sevan Matossian (17:20):

Five. Yeah. How is he doing? What’s the shakeout after this in

Justin Cotler (17:25):

Third. I think he’s

Sevan Matossian (17:25):

In third. Yeah. Was, was Del Lugo’s planning on going to the games this year? Is that the plan?

Justin Cotler (17:31):

I mean, listen, that’s, that’s always the plan, right? Um, yeah, you that’s pretty stack field. I mean, we felt really confident. We still feel confident. He’s got two workouts tomorrow that are very good for him. Um, and there’s no fucking pull up our muscle up, so that’s beautiful. We don’t have to worry about the height thing. Um, but yeah, I mean he’ll still be in striking distance of last chance. Um, you know, so right now we just want the season to continue. So we’re, we’re gonna work hard there. And then obviously on the women’s side, we got a young buck right now is in the top five, um, who I think is finally getting some due. Um, and uh, she’s starting to believe, you know, I, I, I knew about six months ago that she was good enough, but it takes time. She’s only 20 and you know, she’s improved so much in a short period of time and sometimes all it takes is for an athlete to believe and you’ve gotta be able to convince them that they’re good enough to hang. And that workout early this afternoon where she took third in that chipper. Um, I think she believes and, and I think, uh, she’s got a great chance tomorrow. Her, her best movement, her legless rope climbs, she could easily win that event. She hangs in that next event and, and does well. I think, uh, she’s got a great chance to punch her ticket, which be fucking awesome. So

Sevan Matossian (18:43):

I, I, oh, sorry. Oh shoot. Oh yeah. Wait, sorry. There’s a message. Uh, for anyone, for anyone who needs some naked HD, uh, cheap fuck, uh, make sure you check the comments. Okay.

Justin Cotler (18:56):

Said, oh wow.

Sevan Matossian (18:57):

<laugh> so Alex Willis that that’s, that’s the young lady you’re talking about.

Justin Cotler (19:01):

Yes.

Sevan Matossian (19:02):

Yeah. Uh, and how long have you been, how long has she been with you?

Justin Cotler (19:06):

Uh, she’s been with us now, uh, right after west coast last year.

Sevan Matossian (19:11):

Um, how man, how big is this stable? How, how many athletes are there? Uh, at, uh, underground, uh, underdogs, uh, athletics.

Justin Cotler (19:19):

We’ve got like in house we’ve got, uh, 12 or so 15, but listen man, we’re I still like, I look at us, we’re still the little engine that could, you know, like our brand is just over a year old now I’ve been coaching for fucking ever, but the brand’s just over a year old and you know, we’ve got, uh, we have like about nine semifinals, elite semifinals athletes around the world and we got a bunch of masters and we got some teams and stuff, but you know, we, we are, we’re kind of new and, and, and we just, you know, we’ve got a lot of visibility very quickly because of how well our athletes are doing. Um, but in general, man, you know, it’s, we’re, we’re still, we’re, we’re very, uh, popular visibility wise, but we’re trying to catch up, you know, to all the monsters, um, like the bands and the provens and the hard work pays off and stuff.

Sevan Matossian (20:07):

Oh, stop being, stop being humble. Stop, stop. Stop.

Justin Cotler (20:10):

I, no, no, I, I just in general that there’s, you know, we’re proud of what we’ve done is just, you know, trying to, trying to keep up and travel our coaches and do all that shit. It gets, it gets challenging, but man, I’m blessed. It’s fucking awesome. I love doing this. This is like, you know, it’s a labor love for me, man. Like my favorite thing is game day coaching and, you know, getting the most outta my athletes on game day, get having them reach their maximum potential firing ’em up. And uh, you know, it’s, it’s exciting. We’re two for two, you know, Ricky week one, Danielle week two, we’re trying to go three for three here. And then I go to Atlas next week and we got scuds next

Sevan Matossian (20:47):

Week, who I think have a great chance too. So we’re, we’re sure that would be huge for her. That would be huge for her. I mean, Justin, I wanna interrupt you a second. Um, uh, just sorry, cuz Taylor and I have been having a little bit of a beef today and we got, uh, Justin Maderas on the phone to, um, to unfuck this beef Taylor, is there something you wanted to ask Justin? You just can’t stop talking about it. So I thought I’d invite Justin on so you could ask him yourself.

Taylor Self (21:08):

What’s my question

Sevan Matossian (21:10):

About yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Taylor Self (21:12):

Oh, a lot of guy. This is the Hiller hot take. Justin, the Hiller hot take.

Sevan Matossian (21:15):

You’re gonna pass this shit off on Hiller. <laugh> no, just

Taylor Self (21:19):

Here, you’re passing this off that Taylor, that dude. I said, I said he couldn’t do it. I said he couldn’t swim. Good enough. Do you think, dude, are you worried about Philly? Is he gonna beat you this year at the

Justin Medeiros (21:27):

Games? Me dude.

Taylor Self (21:29):

Yeah. <laugh> worried about,

Justin Medeiros (21:31):

I’m worried about 39 other guys out there, man. One

Sevan Matossian (21:35):

Of those, one of

Andrew Hiller (21:36):

Those guys is being Phil too. Isn’t it

Justin Medeiros (21:38):

For sure. See, you gotta, you gotta give him, you gotta give everybody respect. I mean, I, I came onto the scene my very first year and I got third. No one had any idea who I am. So like, why couldn’t that happen again? I mean, same thing, Brett McKowski came onto the scene his first year at the games and I’m pretty sure he got third, second or third, uh, his first year. So like you never know who’s gonna be a contender. You know, there’s always someone that does really good that you had no idea and there’s always someone that was supposed to do good that doesn’t, so it’s kind of gotta watch and figure that out. But

Sevan Matossian (22:09):

Um, have you ever had, have you ever had, what did you see what happened to Chandler today? Have you ever had that happen to you in a competition where you, where you go down to medics after, uh, to mess with you?

Justin Medeiros (22:18):

I don’t think so. <laugh> not that I remember. I think if, uh, uh, I mean, I don’t know what anybody’s going through, so I don’t wanna comment too much on that, but uh, I think, uh, you got some serious issues going on. If, if you’re getting medical, you know, like I, I think it’s gonna be pretty hard to continue with competition. Like if, if you’re getting medical help, like going down helped off the field, I think you’re gonna, uh, especially if you’re getting medical help, I think it’d be hard to compete.

Sevan Matossian (22:43):

Yeah. Have you ever had that, Taylor, have you ever had any, um, needed medical assistance? Nope. Cause I was thinking he doesn’t, um, you know, if your car, let’s say you’re a race car driver and your car breaks down and you get a problem with it, you get to do some lapses before the race starts. But when we see Chandler go back out there, he has to be taking analysis in real time. Right. They say go and did you notice he was the, he, I mean, he, he won his heat, but he was also the slowest runner off the go it’s like when you crash your skateboard, you know, at the park and you’re laying there and you’re kind of taking inventory of all your shit. Are your finger still, there is your ankle on straight. How’s your head. It’s gotta be a scary thing.

Justin Medeiros (23:24):

You asking me

Sevan Matossian (23:25):

Anyone? Anyone? I just wanted to making an uncomfortable silence. I was just seeing how quiet we could get <laugh>.

Justin Medeiros (23:30):

Yeah, no for sure. I mean, obviously you’re gonna be a little bit shaken up, but uh, yeah. Mean he, he came back,

Sevan Matossian (23:38):

Um, Hillary, do you, do you, do you think that Phil tune has any chance of beating Justin Maderas at the games this year?

Andrew Hiller (23:43):

I’ve said it a couple of times. Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (23:45):

Wow.

Andrew Hiller (23:46):

And it’s if only because of exactly what Justin just said, you don’t, you never know and he’s kind of coming out.

Sevan Matossian (23:51):

You mean like Justin can get in a plane accident on the way there. What do you mean? You never

Andrew Hiller (23:53):

Know. He’s says Christ. That is not what I meant. <laugh> uh, what I, what I meant is, I mean, he, he kind of popped onto the scene and then he did real well last year. And who, if the trajectory continues, he can totally challenge Justin.

Justin Medeiros (24:06):

You think he’s the number one, contender you, uh, things knock down pat and Brent and all

Andrew Hiller (24:11):

This guys. I like to say, I think he’s the number one contender. And as of right now, I’m two and oh, on my picks. So he would just be my overall pick contender. What does the collar think?

Sevan Matossian (24:20):

Yeah, that’s what I wanna know. What’s Justin co think does, and don’t let that name. Don’t be name, biased and shit either. We want honest opinion. I’m not,

Justin Cotler (24:28):

I’m not name biased. I, Justin, Badari who I adore. My name is fucking fake, but that’s all I have to say. I, I got a chance to watch Justin lie in person, like when we were in the bubble together. And obviously I love Adam, but uh, he’s gotten fitter and fitter and fitter. I, I still think that Justin’s the guy to beat. I’ve watched Phil this weekend. He’s

Justin Cotler (24:52):

Very impressive. Um, but we know Justin has been through the gauntlet of games programming for a couple of years and done fantastic. We’ve seen people crush, semi-finals go to the games and not deal extremely well with games programming. Um, so I think the verdict is still out on someone who would be a rookie, um, talking about de throwing a champ. That’s, uh, that’s some pretty high praise and I’m, and, and listen, obviously everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but in my opinion, you know, Justin is the, is the champ and, and somebody gotta knock him off before. I’m gonna say that he’s not the, uh, not the

Sevan Matossian (25:34):

Jr.

Andrew Hiller (25:35):

I would Justin’s opinion over mind, by the way,

Sevan Matossian (25:38):

J Jr.

Andrew Hiller (25:39):

Or yeah.

JR Howell (25:40):

Yeah, no, I, you know, I agree with Justin, I, I still kind of go back to, um, kind of the old guard that for the past few year now, people have been assuming are gonna drop off like pat in particular. And until someone goes to the games and goes through that many events improves that they can still hang and finish second, multiple years. I still think someone like pat is, is, is the, the biggest

Sevan Matossian (26:02):

Threat. Me too. I think it’s pat too. Actually, I think it’s ner too, but, but that could just be proximity cuz we just had him on the show. Okay. Justin, thank you. I just wanted to squat. I will not tolerate this, this Maderas bashing. I mean, you’re welcome to stand, but I all

Andrew Hiller (26:16):

No was bash bashing

Sevan Matossian (26:18):

Gross as well. Just if you say his name without like having like dropping to a knee, I then I won’t tolerate it

Andrew Hiller (26:22):

On this. Well, I got his

Sevan Matossian (26:24):

Face. I got,

Andrew Hiller (26:25):

We all dropping to a knee. <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (26:27):

Um, oh Justin, you were, you were wild. Uh, at the, um, at the, at last week’s event with, uh, Danielle, Brandon, I mean just like just the camera would pan to you and you were just wild and then, um, same with, uh, and I thought maybe it was just the, the Daniel Brandon energy, the DBE. Um, but this week we see the exact same thing from you. You are a calm collective gentleman on the two hour podcast I do with you. We talk about singing and, and love and kids and then out there you’re, you’re one of the most vocal, I mean, it’s, it’s like you’re cheering on UFC fighters.

Justin Cotler (27:05):

Yeah, I know. I, I kind of washed myself document like, oh fucking, um, I don’t know, man, it’s just, I’m passionate about it. And I also think like, I just, I don’t, I don’t know any other way, you know, I, I I’m just like, it, it, it just gets them, you know, seeing, seeing them perform and seeing them do as well as they’re doing. And I just get thoughted up. They can’t, you know, I don’t like to hold back honestly to me, it’s just, uh, I feel like that’s what I feel and I just let it go. And you know, um, what you see is what you get kind of thing and yeah, it’s, uh, it’s exciting. Mommy. DB was so fucking good last week and I was so proud. Her she’s grown so much. She’s an athlete, you know, physically she’s, she’s always been in my opinion, just one of the best, but she’s now emotionally and mentally, like what she did last week compared to last year, west coast. If you could see what west coast was like last year, it was a rollercoaster and she’s, she’s gotten so much trouble.

Sevan Matossian (28:08):

Justin. Your audio is so bad, brother. I don’t think we can do you unless you like something happened.

Justin Cotler (28:15):

Alright. All right.

Sevan Matossian (28:16):

Sounds good. Yeah. Thank you. I don’t know what happened. It just went, it just went bad in the last like 90 seconds. Tell, uh Degos. We love him. Thank you.

Andrew Hiller (28:24):

That get angry again.

Justin Cotler (28:25):

You

Sevan Matossian (28:25):

Guys too. Okay. Chow, Mr. Friend. Welcome to show Taylor. Did I upset you doing that?

Taylor Self (28:34):

No.

Sevan Matossian (28:35):

Oh, okay.

Taylor Self (28:36):

Sorry.

Sevan Matossian (28:37):

I didn’t.

Taylor Self (28:39):

No,

Sevan Matossian (28:39):

You sure you didn’t feel picked on anything. Okay. I thought it was funny. I was excited about it, but you didn’t, you were just kind of like, eh,

Andrew Hiller (28:45):

I

Sevan Matossian (28:46):

Was excited. Like, look like, look at, look at, look it, look. It just like, they just, just laughing back there.

Taylor Self (28:56):

I’m I just like J nobody saw what I said to Jason’s comment. You did Jason’s comment. You put it up and nobody saw what I did to it.

Sevan Matossian (29:03):

Know what you do, drew a penis on it. I was

Taylor Self (29:04):

Like, I, I was doing that. Darn cause that’s what he was doing to Justin,

Sevan Matossian (29:09):

Mr. Friend. Hi

Taylor Self (29:12):

<laugh>. Hi,

Sevan Matossian (29:13):

Holy cow. It’s a, it’s a star studded cast.

Andrew Hiller (29:16):

He’s always walking.

Justin Cotler (29:18):

I

Taylor Self (29:18):

Got, I got like five minutes.

Andrew Hiller (29:20):

Okay. You don’t five

Sevan Matossian (29:21):

Minutes, Jen. You headed to the bar to meet Danielle. We know.

Andrew Hiller (29:24):

Ask your question. Seon go.

Sevan Matossian (29:25):

Um, what are we? Uh, Anthony Davis. Colton Merton’s uh, I mean stealing the show, stealing my heart. Uh, can you pull up the leaderboard? Uh, Mr. Caleb or, or Susan? What, what, tell me about these guys. Tell me how surprised you are about Anthony Davis.

Brian Friend (29:42):

How pleasantly surprised I AM’s totally different. Uh, Anthony Davis from last year and those event finishes today are more impressive than anything else I saw. And he’s not like he told us he’s not training to be a pro athlete, but he is totally transformed himself in the last year. And he’s able to.
