Sevan Matossian (00:01):
Five $5 from, uh, Matt Reynold, spending money for the people at granite games next week, next week. Cause they’re doing blow with that money, Matt. Oh, hill, you think I swear too much. Huh? And then I,
Andrew Hiller (00:14):
Oh, you’re you’re in the comic section. Huh?
Sevan Matossian (00:16):
I saw you get toe up for talking shit about me. I saw you get to up.
Andrew Hiller (00:20):
No, no, no. What do you mean? Let me, I missed that.
Sevan Matossian (00:24):
Let me read the, uh, the comments that came in after you. You ambushed me. Good to see. See you guys.
Andrew Hiller (00:30):
Good. Hey guys. So you know, Sovan also the comments he doesn’t talk.
Sevan Matossian (00:34):
Oh, uh, um, uh, Taylor, I’m glad for you that you’re taking this broadcast seriously and that you’re in your car. It’s cool. How professional, uh, and, and serious you take this, you know, we just got paid five bucks, right?
Andrew Hiller (00:46):
<laugh> it’s $5 studio right there. Just
Sevan Matossian (00:48):
Mute the fucking thumb.
Andrew Hiller (00:50):
<laugh> that’s all really rude
Sevan Matossian (00:52):
Muted. His ass coming in, hot, coming in hot. Hey,
Andrew Hiller (00:54):
Pay for effort. He’s
Sevan Matossian (00:55):
Like, look at me. He looks like a cop. He looks like a, oh, he’s in the parking garage. <laugh> stuck in the parking garage at the Mac. He can’t even get out. Is that okay? Fine. We’ll unmute him. Where, where are you? Can you hear me? And unfortunately
Taylor Self (01:09):
Is the audio any good
Sevan Matossian (01:11):
Right now? It is. Are you driving or are you just,
Taylor Self (01:14):
I turned, I turned wifi off, so we should be fine.
Sevan Matossian (01:17):
<laugh> oh, cuz you’re sharing it with 10,000 other people.
Taylor Self (01:21):
No, I was on my girlfriend’s hotspot, but I don’t think that’s better than my data. So I think we’re good to go.
Sevan Matossian (01:28):
Uh, where are
Andrew Hiller (01:28):
You? Are you?
Taylor Self (01:31):
I was in the parking garage from the Mac waiting for Jason Hopper to finish, uh, his buddies. Um, and then we’re driving back to, uh, South Carolina.
Sevan Matossian (01:43):
This is not a family show. Uh, before we start, I want to thank, uh, Andrew Hiller from Hiller fit. Uh, you guys all know who he is, uh, for doing this this whole week. He’s been freaking awesome. Uh, the guy who kind of drove this and uh, has let his alpha seep all over us and kind of almost borderline bulls, uh, Taylor self for the weekend, but someone has to, um, kind of make sure the ball keeps rolling. And then of course the executive producer, the Seton podcast, Matt Suza, who, uh, sends us all the schedules and make sure everyone shows up on time. And unfortunately we don’t have, um, Jr Howell here who is, uh, put, prioritized, uh, driving with his kids than being with us. Um, and then, and then all the guests of course, that we’ve had on during the week, uh, Dave Castro, uh, James towns and uh, who, who else has, uh, stopped rowing? Who else? Ising Scott. Panche rich. Froning uh, Angelo de Chico,
Andrew Hiller (02:33):
Sevan Matossian (02:34):
Sprague, James Sprague, the whole crew you guys have. And then, and then all you guys at home, uh, in all honesty, if, if you guys weren’t listening, we would not do this. Like if we had three listeners, I’d be like, fuck this. Oh, we are live. No, no, I’m just rehearsing for long. We
Andrew Hiller (02:50):
Do. You, you never said shit. <laugh>
Sevan Matossian (02:54):
Uh, I didn’t do the band. We’re live Batman we’re live. No.
Andrew Hiller (02:56):
Oh, oh, now we’re live Batman. We’re
Sevan Matossian (02:59):
Batman. Uh, you can get your TD CEO shirts. Yes. At, uh, vindicate. Um, by the way, all of these shows also, if you would like to get blood panel work and uh, and, and, and start exploring what it’s like to be on TRT, you should check out California hormones. We have a really exciting year coming up for you. Uh, tomorrow on the podcast, we will have a guy who’s embarking on the, uh, CRT program. He had a severe COVID, uh, almost died. He was in a coma for 80 days. We’re gonna interview him tomorrow. He also, uh, had, has a little, what you might call cartel experience, which will be fun to talk about. Um, also, oh, look at Taylor’s like taking some deep breaths.
Andrew Hiller (03:41):
He doesn’t like the,
Sevan Matossian (03:43):
Andrew Hiller (03:44):
Looks like he fights against the cartel. DEA. Oh,
Sevan Matossian (03:49):
Do you wanna start? Do you wanna start at the beginning or just be like, holy shit. We Spencer’s in
Andrew Hiller (03:55):
Yeah. Kick it
Sevan Matossian (03:56):
Off right there. Okay.
Andrew Hiller (03:58):
Sevan Matossian (03:58):
Yeah. Yeah. And then we’ll go back and talk about, uh, um, uh, mayhem, uh, what they did early this morning when I should have been asleep. Holy cow. Um, so basically, uh, Spencer’s that, that that’s not fun, right? Spencer’s destiny was controlled by Tyler. Christopher.
Andrew Hiller (04:17):
Why, why is that not fun? What’s not fun about that. That being kinda fun.
Sevan Matossian (04:21):
I mean, for Spencer, I mean, for Spencer
Andrew Hiller (04:24):
It’s, it’s how it is at the end every weekend though, is it there’s always gonna be somebody, I suppose who’s gonna be controlled somebody else’s destiny and all Spencer can do is finish as high as he can.
Sevan Matossian (04:34):
Andrew Hiller (04:34):
And it finish. I hope that the other guy falls back
Sevan Matossian (04:36):
And he didn’t just fall back.
Andrew Hiller (04:40):
He was, uh, that was the best judging performance of the, uh, semifinals thus far.
Sevan Matossian (04:46):
Are, are you shocked when you see someone as seasoned as Tyler, Christopher, and, uh, Brooke Wells make that same mistake at the finish line where to, to put the bar down from overhead, um, before they lock out and have control at the top there
Andrew Hiller (05:00):
At the beginning of the weekend, I think Taylor and I were going back and forth about Taylor’s overhead and how the, the complex was gonna be an issue, not due to the cleans or the front squats, but due to his ability to push it O shouldered overhead. So approaching that bar, I don’t think that very many of us were surprised that that was the issue for him, which was keeping the bar overhead on the lunges. And then what you were saying was, is it something that season? I think Brooke put it down cause she knew she couldn’t finish. I think Tyler lapsed mentally.
Sevan Matossian (05:29):
No, really you, so you, I think, uh, Brooke lapsed mentally too, you think they both stepped over the yellow line and then, uh, uh, B before they had control fully standing up, it came forward. You’re saying Brooke didn’t have a choice. She lost control. Um, and Tyler, his was just, he was trying to rush across the finish line. I think it was, I think they both made the same mistake.
Andrew Hiller (05:51):
Taylor, what do you think? Are you driving <laugh>
Taylor Self (05:54):
I I’m good. I think Brooke took a lot more time and was a little more poised in terms of sitting and waiting until she had it. It seemed like Tyler had several sections of the lunge that he, especially at the end, that he was at failure and failed right at the last second. And it cost him big
Sevan Matossian (06:13):
Time. We’re talking specifically at the very last rep, both of them stepped over the line and I’m suggesting that both of them, uh, had a mental lapse. Uh, and, and Andrew is saying only Tyler had the mental lapse in Brooks was a, a physical, uh, bad positioning fatigue type issue. And we’re going to you for the tiebreaker. Is that true? They hear that right?
Andrew Hiller (06:37):
Taylor Self (06:38):
I think Tyler had more of, I think Tyler had more of a mental lapse because he failed that last section several times.
Andrew Hiller (06:44):
You could see him shake his head too. Like he was like, he, he kinda,
Taylor Self (06:49):
And I think why is because he knew what was going on. He, he, I, I think in that moment he knows, like
Andrew Hiller (06:55):
He knew he lost his spot.
Taylor Self (06:56):
Andrew Hiller (06:57):
But also it looks a lot like the rope climbs, you see the athletes, so it’s like, go, go, go, go, go. And they’re trying to get up the rope too soon. I, in my opinion, almost looks like they just try to do the lunge too soon. Like they, they lost gas in their ability to hold the bar overhead or complete the lunges.
Sevan Matossian (07:11):
Uh, Mason, Mitchell, Mason, Mitchell is suggesting that Brooke also, uh, the next time she came through, she failed. I didn’t see that.
Mattew Ouza (07:18):
I didn’t see that. I think she said
Andrew Hiller (07:20):
Mattew Ouza (07:20):
With the second time. I would also say too, that
Taylor Self (07:23):
Mattew Ouza (07:24):
Go ahead, Taylor.
Taylor Self (07:25):
I was gonna say what happened to Brooke? And Tyler were both very similar and I was surprised to see Brooke and forth. I thought she was close to dropping out. Um, at at least that’s how it felt when you were in the arena. Um, watching that go down. Um,
Andrew Hiller (07:43):
Are you saying there was a tinkering on the leaderboard,
Taylor Self (07:46):
Man? It, it didn’t look like it made sense. I mean, I don’t know. She, she
Andrew Hiller (07:50):
Sevan Matossian (07:52):
Tinkering on the leaderboard dude. This isn’t United States of America. There’s no tinkering. CrossFit are legit and this isn’t Georgia.
Andrew Hiller (08:06):
Taylor Self (08:08):
Did you pay for that documentary that
Sevan Matossian (08:11):
Uh, no. No, no. But I had read the article. The article had come out, uh, a month earlier and I had
Taylor Self (08:17):
Go buy it. It’s not worth it. It’s not worth the money. So
Mattew Ouza (08:19):
Wait, what’s the confusion with Brooke across the line. What are you guys saying that she didn’t get that rep and then they gave it to her and then the leader board’s being tinkered with now is
Taylor Self (08:26):
That the no speculation is fine. I was just saying, yeah, I was just saying that you were holding your breath because she was so behind in that heat. And it was like, man, if, if enough of these girls pass her, she’s, she’s not getting in. But
Sevan Matossian (08:39):
Hey, let me tell you how close it is. Let me tell you how close it is. Kelly Clark did everything she had to do. Mm-hmm
Andrew Hiller (08:47):
Sevan Matossian (08:48):
On the, on the, on the push press. She timed it to the last one. Yeah. She put the bar down. Then she finished the last push press and then she lunge across the finish line. She never dropped her bar. I mean, she’s a, she was a Savage.
Andrew Hiller (09:00):
She didn’t beat Daniel. Brandon.
Sevan Matossian (09:02):
No, that’s you’re right. You’re right. Uh, she has Kelly Clark. You ready?
Taylor Self (09:07):
Sevan Matossian (09:08):
441 points. Rebecca of fusier fusier 4 42, Brooke Wells, 4 43. So you’re right. It is. I mean, uh, if Kelly Clark would be Daniel, Brandon, uh, she would’ve jumped up in the fourth place.
Andrew Hiller (09:22):
Taylor Self (09:24):
And it was tough. It was tough to watch her. I met her in aromas at the ranch and she was a super nice girl and she moves so well. It was awesome to watch her on that workout and fucking gosh, you CA one point
Sevan Matossian (09:35):
Heartbreaking master athlete going for it.
Taylor Self (09:38):
Andrew Hiller (09:40):
How did she do with the pig?
Taylor Self (09:43):
Um, I didn’t see her on the pig. I was the only athlete that I saw. You’re too
Andrew Hiller (09:45):
Busy underneath it. Yes, yes. Damn.
Taylor Self (09:49):
She saw my own taint. I own TA
Sevan Matossian (09:57):
Oh, the stench from his own ass while being smashed under the pig was too strong to see any other athletes. Uh, Taylor Williamson looked pissed when they announced Brooke, even though her husband works alongside her, but it might be because she has constant AR geez, Louise. Geez, Damian. Geez,
Taylor Self (10:16):
Sevan Matossian (10:16):
She constant damn can’t believe I even started reading that. <laugh>
Andrew Hiller (10:19):
I gotta bet those boys. I was waiting for you to start reading it. So I’m not surprised <laugh>
Sevan Matossian (10:25):
Um, Jeffrey Birchfield, the rep is credited. This is going back to, and I still not sure if Taylor understands what we’re talking about, Hillary, cuz he keeps like trying to address it directly. But the rep is credited. When the athlete gets both heels across a solid line, that was the yellow line with the barbell in the overhead position and a standing tall with hips and knees fully extended per max standards. I agree. And Jeff, the thing is, is Andrew is saying that Tyler Christal, um, rushed it and put it down before he got to that position cuz of a mental error.
Andrew Hiller (10:55):
His whole body was tilted forward
Sevan Matossian (10:56):
And Brooke was tilted forward and couldn’t get in that position because it physical limitations and she got tired or, or whatever the reason. No. And I disagree with Andrew. I think it’s both that they both had a moment of tarnation.
Taylor Self (11:07):
Yeah, you’re right. I saw Brooke. Sorry. I was, I was confused. Um, I saw Brooke fail and I also was standing right in front of Todd, Christopher. He didn’t let it down before he just stood all the way up. He was trying to stand it up and his elbows buckled and he dropped the ball. Oh it was, it was subtle. It was subtle, but it was a for sure. Physical
Sevan Matossian (11:22):
Failure. Oh, so Andrew and I are both wrong on Tyler question.
Andrew Hiller (11:25):
Well, that looked different in person then.
Taylor Self (11:27):
Wow. Okay. He was, he was standing it up. He was standing it up and his elbows were like, it was like a quarter inch of buckle. And if he were to try to like, if he were, if he was trying to straighten his knees out, another inches, elbows would just fully given him. He just threw the bar ahead of him cuz he couldn’t stand
Sevan Matossian (11:39):
It up. Okay. And Ms. Wells, what would you say about so as were both Owen and Owen one on Tyler. What about Brooke?
Taylor Self (11:46):
Oh, it was the same thing for Brooke. Yeah. It was a physical, oh shit. She just pushed it to the, push it to the limit way.
Sevan Matossian (11:53):
The Hiller fit.
Mattew Ouza (11:53):
They have to red line. They have to go through it there and think about how loud it is inside their head. Right. They know that this is it. They have to make it in a certain thing to qualify. They’re gonna completely push the limits. There’s no reason to be conservative. It’s an all or nothing approaching. We’ve seen these type of just utter failures right at the line with the lunge events all the time they make for the best drama, especially that overhead position. Right. Because there’s, so that was a great event. Start to go around. So I thought it was a really great event, but I mean, it, I think it’s a combination of just that mental, everything is so loud and then physically you’re just red line. So we see those bars come down.
Taylor Self (12:25):
Yeah. I, I think that also the thing to point out with both of them or they were both in kind of a bubble qualifying position and both were so far behind in their heat. Yeah. I could see them both in their head or thinking like, fuck, you’re losing it. You’re losing it. You’re losing it. Yeah. And that just cyclical, negative talk going in your head, making you pick up too far, a little too quick and not Taylor,
Sevan Matossian (12:48):
Can you turn your turn signal off and from here on out only use
Taylor Self (12:51):
Hand. Yeah. Sorry.
Sevan Matossian (12:52):
Yeah. And please only use hand signals from here on out and uh, Hiller, uh, while I’m criticizing, uh, people, uh, please, uh, no drinks with ice while on the show, the disturbing sound is kind of erotic, but the ice is, uh, not so good. Okay. Uh, will you go back? Uh, um, I spoke to our RJ Jr. Howell. Um, he is driving, but there was something he wanted to point out to us that also Brian friend mentions quite a bit. Can we go over to the men’s leader board? Um, Brian’s always talking about how the, not always, but he he’ll mention that the men’s, uh, CrossFit games, competitions, the me, the, the male athletes are a little more, um, along the progression, the evolution it’s maybe you could say it’s more competitive, right? That would be the way. And one of the telltale signs is if you look at the top five here and you look at the lowest, anyone placed, so you have Spencer I think is the lowest anyone placed? Oh no, no. Even no Olson has a 19th. So the lowest you have placed is a fourth place finisher, Noah Olson with a 19th, uh, placement. Now let’s go over to the top five women just to test out this theory, just, just to see what’s going on and see what the lowest placement here is of a, of a woman in the top five, just to see where we’re at. Um,
Taylor Self (14:07):
Mattew Ouza (14:08):
Taylor Self (14:10):
Sevan Matossian (14:10):
Oh, you do see a 24th Brooke
Mattew Ouza (14:12):
Wells. Oh, Brooke Wells. Yep.
Sevan Matossian (14:13):
Yep. Okay. Okay. So, so, so it’s kind of fascinating. Um, had anyone heard of this, uh, Rebecca fusier uh, before this event,
Taylor Self (14:25):
James Sprague, James Sprague talked about her a little bit on the show. Mm-hmm <affirmative>, aside from that, I, I, aside she’s kind of like, you know, she’s has like a big Instagram following for like reels or stuff, whatever, like little talks or things she makes. But aside from that, I <laugh>, I didn’t think athletically about to be too.
Sevan Matossian (14:46):
She she’s a fucking to legend. Let me see how many followers she has.
Mattew Ouza (14:51):
Sevan Matossian (14:51):
Okay. Uh, those, uh, those, uh, uh, red, white and blue shorts. Those would look nice on you, Taylor.
Andrew Hiller (14:59):
Sevan Matossian (15:00):
Man. You could rock the shit out of those.
Andrew Hiller (15:02):
Oh, handstand walk
Sevan Matossian (15:03):
Action. And those bad
Taylor Self (15:04):
Boys. Same, same cut.
Sevan Matossian (15:05):
I wanna see, I wanna see swim in those that waap Polooza next year.
Andrew Hiller (15:09):
Some Adrian kind of way approved, GD sit ups.
Sevan Matossian (15:13):
When she hugged Kelly Clark, she like the top of her head came under Kelly Clark’s head. And then I saw Kelly Clark hug. One of the competitors out there and her head went underneath that competitor’s head. I wish she knew which competitor that was. There was a giant woman out there. Do you guys did
Andrew Hiller (15:29):
A J a giant woman?
Sevan Matossian (15:31):
Yeah, but I didn’t recognize her. I didn’t recognize her at tall.
Andrew Hiller (15:35):
Sevan Matossian (15:35):
She was in the final heat. I wonder who the tallest, uh, lady was, who was in the final heat.
Andrew Hiller (15:39):
Oh, let’s find out.
Sevan Matossian (15:41):
Well, uh, my wife was asking me, so Kelly Clark still has a chance because she goes to the last chance qualifier, but really, I mean the last chance qualifier is just savagery. Right? I mean, it’s just that that’s harder. That’s the hardest way to go. Right? I mean, there’s so many good athletes and only two go,
Andrew Hiller (15:59):
Well, Taylor was there last year. How tough is it?
Taylor Self (16:03):
I think there’s an argument to be made that it’s, I mean, it’s, it’s different. You don’t have the best games qualifiers there because all of them qualify through their semifinal, but you also don’t have the slap dicks that are 20 to 30 in all the semifinals. You have the guys that are 6, 7, 8, 6, 7, 8, 6, 7, 8. So it’s tough, but it’s
Sevan Matossian (16:26):
You arguably have some of the, the greatest outliers in there though, also, which is a problem.
Taylor Self (16:32):
Yeah. You, the, the outliers are, I think what make the last,
Andrew Hiller (16:35):
I say you call ’em the,
Taylor Self (16:36):
You have a lot of those, you <laugh>. I just like that term. You, you have, you have the guys that can hit home, runs in those specialty events. A lot of them in the last chance. And that’s what makes it really tough. Like I think last year you had those guys like Papadopoulos that Greek dude who deadlifted like 700 pounds for three. I don’t know. Not that much, but a lot like
Sevan Matossian (16:56):
Fucking with, with one arm, with one arm,
Andrew Hiller (16:58):
5 85, 6, 5 85.
Taylor Self (17:00):
Andrew Hiller (17:02):
Taylor Self (17:03):
Yes. So you have guys like that in there. Uh, even you guys, you have guys like Alex Kala who is gonna win a hundred burpees for you have home run hitters. Um, and very rarely do you have an athlete that’s extremely well rounded or, I mean, the guy, I think the person who’s the most well rounded, um, is, is the guy who wins the last chance. Same with the girl. And I think you saw that last year you saw, um, Roman Koff win the last chance. And he was clearly the best athlete there in that field. Um,
Sevan Matossian (17:30):
Well that, well, that gives hope to Kelly Clark because she’s definitely well rounded seventh, 11th, eighth, fourth, 14th, and second mm-hmm <affirmative>
Andrew Hiller (17:36):
Dude. Tyler’s going back there too. Yeah. Tyler was there last year. Took third. I think that’s one or no, he got to the games didn they, after that, didn’t they back fill that? Or did
Taylor Self (17:44):
Andrew Hiller (17:45):
No back filling that cause Roman
Taylor Self (17:46):
Didn’t go. They didn’t backfill it <laugh>, they, they didn’t backfill. He asked, they asked to backfill and they told him no kick
Mattew Ouza (17:54):
Andrew Hiller (17:55):
Geez. That’s unbelievable. Yeah. <laugh>
Mattew Ouza (17:59):
Sevan Matossian (18:00):
Uh Rebecca’s five, two.
Taylor Self (18:01):
Oh yeah. Tyler. Yeah,
Sevan Matossian (18:03):
Go ahead Taylor. Sorry, Taylor.
Taylor Self (18:05):
No, I was just gonna say he, he, it was, uh, Roman Alexander Corona and Tyler, and then me in the last chance.
Sevan Matossian (18:14):
Oh, so, so Spencer goes and, and Saxon goes and we have mom and dad, uh, kissing and crying and, and the whole family’s happy and, and it’s intense to watch. And of course my homeboy, uh, Jake Berman, uh, doesn’t go that, that sucks, but I am happy for Spencer. Um, but Scott, who could have gone, isn’t going, I wonder, I wonder if that’s just extra salt in the womb for Scott pan.
Mattew Ouza (18:44):
Oh, for sure. For sure. I mean, think about it. That would’ve been the first time, the three of them at the games, especially we know Scott, um, this potentially you, well now what the, what the injury is, is last year, you know, who knows if he’ll be able to make a comeback from that. And so it would’ve been his, you know, his kind of rah at the games with the two brothers there, which just would’ve put a nice bow on the Che story.
Sevan Matossian (19:04):
And now there’s Nobo
Mattew Ouza (19:05):
And CrossFit fucked it up.
Sevan Matossian (19:08):
<laugh> Hey, Darren, he would love that. He would love to be wearing a Batman
Andrew Hiller (19:17):
Outfit. No joke. I have one from high school. I’ve been looking for it. I gotta find the picture. Don’t I’ll put it on. I’ll get
Sevan Matossian (19:25):
In there. Hillary. Don’t let the comments in the chat. Um, uh, when, when you said that I swear too much and people started bombing you telling you, you talk too much affect you. You talk away, buddy. Don’t don’t hold back.
Andrew Hiller (19:35):
No, no, no. This is your show. Remember I’m I’m not gonna say a word. I’m just gonna speak in sign language this whole time.
Sevan Matossian (19:40):
Don’t let that shit get in your head.
Andrew Hiller (19:43):
That that’ll bring the show to the next level. When I just sign the whole show or bring you a whole new audience.
Sevan Matossian (19:48):
Uh, can we, uh, oh. Oh, where did William? Where did William Lehe finish? Oh 10th. He was
Taylor Self (19:54):
Andrew Hiller (19:57):
So I was listening to another show. I know you don’t like talking about those and there is an analyst. Give me a hint. Speaking on this other show, give a hint, um, LIC.
Sevan Matossian (20:08):
Andrew Hiller (20:10):
Sevan Matossian (20:10):
Can always talk about anything. She does go
Andrew Hiller (20:13):
On this show. Mr. Friend was talking about Mr. William Lehe. And I believe he goes by bill saying that he had similar stature of Bryan. And then I looked up his profile and he is almost 200 pounds, but it’s a wi 200 pounds. So I don’t know. Brian said he standing next to him. <laugh> and he is like, we, we, we share very similar body attributes. And then Brian goes, if anyone’s ever seen me, I’m a little bit thinner. And I’m like, are you trying to knock down Mr. William Lahey? I I’m a big fan of, uh, LA
Sevan Matossian (20:45):
Uh, Brian, him small Brian bill. He don’t have don’t have similar bodies at all.
Mattew Ouza (20:51):
Andrew Hiller (20:52):
Yes. You, you summed up my one minute rant right there. Thank you.
Sevan Matossian (20:56):
Um, but me and Colton, me’s very close.
Mattew Ouza (20:59):
Mm mm-hmm. <affirmative>
Sevan Matossian (21:00):
Mattew Ouza (21:01):
Sevan Matossian (21:02):
So this makes sense. He’s 21 years old. What did you guys think about him? Is, is, is he, is he gonna be next year’s uh, is he next year’s, uh, magnitude Tutu mag, uh, 21 years old. He has a, um,
Andrew Hiller (21:16):
Well, dude, if I went for the first two events, he was there.
Sevan Matossian (21:20):
I mean, he has an event when,
Mattew Ouza (21:22):
Yeah, the 19th and the 22nd. I mean, but look it, after that first seventh, fourth, 13th, I mean, he cleans up those first two. I mean, really that second event, the midline sadness is really what kind of put him
Andrew Hiller (21:32):
Out. Remember what pen said yesterday? This is actually pretty cool pen. They said that midline was the GD setup. Workout was the indicator of who would finish where? And the top five spots were the top five finishes, not in order, but they were all within the top five on that workout. Yes. So that was a great take on his end. Yes. And the females are pretty fucking close too, with the exception of Shelby Neal.
Sevan Matossian (21:55):
I’m I’m looking now. So you have sax and pan chick.
Andrew Hiller (21:58):
So all those people are in the top five.
Sevan Matossian (22:00):
He pepper Cole Sager. Wow.
Mattew Ouza (22:04):
Sevan Matossian (22:06):
Holy shit. He nailed it.
Andrew Hiller (22:09):
That’s that was a, one of the best calls in the history of calls.
Sevan Matossian (22:12):
He kind of knows his shit
Andrew Hiller (22:14):
Mattew Ouza (22:16):
Sevan Matossian (22:18):
Um, in the fifth event, this is a little, uh, obscure and abstract. If, um, they had a close up shot of Saxon, uh, pancake. Did you, do you guys remember that right before the bell rings and he does something with his throat, do you think he was gonna throw up? Did you guys notice that it was the close up of him and he kind of like convulsed? Did
Andrew Hiller (22:41):
You see that? I wish he would’ve thrown up.
Sevan Matossian (22:43):
Yeah. That would’ve been awesome.
Andrew Hiller (22:46):
Um, I didn’t see that. No, but I have made mention of most of the movements he does under some sort of duress, he goes in the middle of he ever noticed that
Sevan Matossian (22:55):
Andrew Hiller (22:55):
Correct? Yeah. Usually on a, in a clean, like when he joined a clean pole, it’s like why and anything under stress. And I always wondered why he does that makes it feel easier
Taylor Self (23:06):
Best for both to it. Yeah.
Mattew Ouza (23:07):
Sevan Matossian (23:08):
There like some technique about, um, taking in air that like, I think, I think Sam, you the
Taylor Self (23:14):
Do it on the 21 15 9,
Sevan Matossian (23:17):
Like, like you’re trying to GU air. I
Taylor Self (23:19):
Must, I must be on a delay.
Andrew Hiller (23:22):
Yeah. Maybe that’s why we haven’t gotten the next level yet. Taylor, we need more air.
Sevan Matossian (23:27):
Okay. Uh, the, the Tia cam count 4 million, 590 south 389, rich three.
Andrew Hiller (23:34):
I actually hired that guy to take, take a stats statistics on that. So thank you. Darren’s
Mattew Ouza (23:41):
Sevan Matossian (23:43):
Mm. I looking over here to see if any of the people we have asked to come to this show
Mattew Ouza (23:49):
Sevan Matossian (23:51):
Yes. Have responded. Maybe we should, maybe we should start digging deeper into the bullpen.
Mattew Ouza (23:58):
Yeah. They might be celebrating popping champagne right now. Huh?
Sevan Matossian (24:02):
I would be great to get Spencer on. I’m dying to hear I’m dying to hear what he thinks I’m dying. Yeah. Uh, fifth event, uh, Tyler Christal was hauling on those dumbbell, um, uh, snatches. Did you notice that he, those guys are so strong and so talented? He, he drops it into his other hand. There’s a moment where it’s free falling. Do you guys do that?
Andrew Hiller (24:24):
Sevan Matossian (24:25):
Um, can you do that too? Taylor?
Taylor Self (24:29):
Uh, I don’t, I, I drop it from overhead
Sevan Matossian (24:32):
And, and then, and then catch it in your other hand.
Taylor Self (24:34):
And yeah, I switch like right here.
Sevan Matossian (24:36):
Andrew Hiller (24:37):
One of the worst judging things ever. And this is kind of what I was trying to get at with the entire G H D placement idea was that remember in the open where they said you had to like, control it below your head before you switch, it just adds too much abstractness to the movement. I thought that that was one of the worst additions into the history CrossFit movements.
Sevan Matossian (24:57):
Yeah. Where, where was that ruled? That was the rule. The games.
Andrew Hiller (25:01):
I think they started in what? The 20, no 18 or 19 open.
Sevan Matossian (25:05):
Yeah, that’s complete. Remember
Andrew Hiller (25:06):
The first year the dumbbell that workout came out, it was okay. Like you do whatever the hell you wanted. And most people at that point in time were still like taking the 50 pound dumbbell for the males and switching on the floor and the open announce with McKowski and ner, you can see if AOW actually does the whole workout that way.
Sevan Matossian (25:21):
Isn’t that was a safety thing. I can’t think of any reason to do that. Unless for some reason they thought it was a safety issue that is complete stupidity to try to put that.
Andrew Hiller (25:29):
SU’s the affiliate owner. What do you think SU?
Mattew Ouza (25:31):
Well, I mean, you’re talking about two different categories of people here. The people in my affiliate. Yeah. We’re gonna go for safety over speed. Right? Dropping a 50 pound dumbbell from the top of your head down to try to catch it.
Andrew Hiller (25:41):
Are you saying there should be a safety over speed division Suza?
Mattew Ouza (25:44):
No. I’m just thinking that the, uh, that the standards, when you go to the open should favor it a little bit more than when you’re doing it in a live competition. Like this.
Sevan Matossian (25:52):
Can you pull up? Dave’s Dave’s Instagram. Hey, I just looked over at Susan. I got like the Ben Berger on effect. Do you think Susan kinda looks like Ben Berger on right now? He seems a baseball cap.
Mattew Ouza (26:01):
Andrew Hiller (26:01):
Got Ben. He looks like my cousin. He looks like my cousin, Susan. Is
Mattew Ouza (26:05):
It the headphones?
Sevan Matossian (26:07):
Andrew Hiller (26:07):
Don’t, no, you actually look less like my cousin with the headphones on.
Sevan Matossian (26:10):
Well, you pull up
Andrew Hiller (26:11):
Dave’s ER, on,
Sevan Matossian (26:12):
Pull up Dave’s Instagram. Let me see this thing. Shots fired from Dave. What are you talking? I I’ll I’ll decide whether it’s shots fired from
Mattew Ouza (26:18):
Dave. We’ll be there.
Sevan Matossian (26:20):
Uh, I I’m I’m happy Noah went to the games. Uh, but did you see an event? Five Noah going over the box?
Andrew Hiller (26:28):
I saw an event. Five Noah going over the box. Well
Sevan Matossian (26:31):
You did. You thought that was well
Andrew Hiller (26:34):
Con compared to the other athletes going over the box. What do you, what are you making note of?
Sevan Matossian (26:40):
Uh, Dave Castro. Scott Panche I heard about the knee that sucks. Heal up and come back stronger. You’re a fighter. Oh, nah. I don’t know if that shots fired. That’s just,
Mattew Ouza (26:50):
It’s just a little love. It’s just giving Scotty little love
Sevan Matossian (26:52):
There. Yeah. It’s just a little love, just a little love, but, but I’m glad you brought it to our attention. That is it’s. It’s interesting. It’s worth noting. Do you think it shots? The
Andrew Hiller (26:59):
Only way it could be shots fired is if he was trying to make a post and the CrossFit games, hasn’t made a post directly about it yet.
Sevan Matossian (27:08):
And have they,
Andrew Hiller (27:10):
Well, in the past Dave kero, would’ve made a post about it, you know? Yeah. That was kind his thing. He would speak out to the situations like this on his personal Instagram. Something, a lot of people didn’t like very much. Yeah. But had a lot of help at that point in time.
Sevan Matossian (27:25):
Yeah. I mean, get me started on that thing. Uh, I, I, I thought, I thought he looked slow and clunky and
Andrew Hiller (27:32):
Just, you know, why he looked slow and clunky
Sevan Matossian (27:34):
Because he is tired. They,
Andrew Hiller (27:35):
They, they to keep their feet within the freaking box.
Sevan Matossian (27:37):
Yeah. What did you think about
Andrew Hiller (27:38):
That? You gotta like go within the
Sevan Matossian (27:40):
Box. Okay. Let’s talk
Andrew Hiller (27:41):
About that. And any part of your appendage will left the box? The whole movement becomes
Sevan Matossian (27:45):
Easier. Well then I didn’t see a single good rep from anybody.
Andrew Hiller (27:47):
Exactly. No had good reps.
Taylor Self (27:51):
There were a lot of athletes that were getting no rep on that. And also a lot that realized that if they just put their feet to the other side of the judge, that they could do whatever the fuck they wanted. And I thought that the, the standard was stupid. It’s a get over. You’re jumping over a fence who fucking cares where your feet are.
Sevan Matossian (28:07):
Um, the box is too, uh, the box is too fucking small
Andrew Hiller (28:14):
For those guys. Noah could do it.
Sevan Matossian (28:16):
Andrew Hiller (28:17):
Exactly. It’s not easy.
Sevan Matossian (28:18):
There was nothing athletic about it. There was nothing athletic or functional about it all.
Mattew Ouza (28:24):
Andrew Hiller (28:26):
I see the argument being made, but the thing is they were supposed to keep themselves within the realm of the box. And at athletes, like, no, the tip of, well,
Sevan Matossian (28:36):
Even if the tip of your shoe went out the outside, it should have been a no rep. Yeah. According then I saw, I saw hundreds of no reps that
Andrew Hiller (28:42):
The worst case was like your girl, Cindy, basically half of her fricking her knee and everything else was outside of the box. And I think what Taylor said that she figured it out. Keep her to the other side of the judge.
Sevan Matossian (28:53):
Hey, will you pull up? Will you pull up my, um, the three plane brothers, Instagram? Yeah. And, and look what I just posed. I
Andrew Hiller (28:59):
Had, cause the movements made much easier
Sevan Matossian (29:02):
Andrew Hiller (29:03):
When, when you’re allowed to go around it, it, it untacks the hip. Flexers like, you gotta get your hips a little bit higher and it makes you pull on your hips a little bit more challengingly to get over the box.
Taylor Self (29:13):
I think though, I think what makes it a lot easier is you don’t have to fucking crawl over the box. Like you’re a baby. If you can just jump over the box, that gets a fast,
Andrew Hiller (29:20):
You just don’t like that to look stupid.
Sevan Matossian (29:22):
Oh shit. It,
Taylor Self (29:23):
It does look
Andrew Hiller (29:23):
Stupid. It, it does look stupid.
Taylor Self (29:25):
Sevan Matossian (29:26):
It didn’t post,
Andrew Hiller (29:27):
But it is what it was, what it was. It does look stupid though. Yeah. Bigger box. I agree with Sivan. I agree with you. Yeah. Didn’t they have stupid.
Mattew Ouza (29:36):
The first time we seen something like this was that wall in 2013, 2013, 2014 at the end of the games with the obstacle course. Oh no, it was a wall. No, it was the snatches at 1 65. And then they did the burpees over the wall. And I think that that’s the way to go because if you have that small box, it’s, it’s mostly just about the design of the piece of equipment you’re using. Right. So if you just squished all the boxes together and made a wall for the, you say the Mac.
