Andrew Hiller (00:01):
A lot said, it’s fine.
Sevan Matossian (00:02):
Bam. We’re live. Uh, we are 10 minutes. No, fuck
Andrew Hiller (00:09):
What?
Sevan Matossian (00:10):
We are 15 minutes late and it’s all my fault. <laugh> I told these gentlemen one 50 and then, uh, I in my head recalibrated to two 50, uh, Pacific standard time. I am extremely sorry. The good news is
Andrew Hiller (00:22):
You see where I am. I don’t even have access to my usual area. <laugh>
Sevan Matossian (00:28):
Uh, the good news
Andrew Hiller (00:29):
Is, do you use for exercise?
Sevan Matossian (00:30):
Oh, it is.
Andrew Hiller (00:31):
Yeah. It’s it’s what it’s meant for, right.
Sevan Matossian (00:34):
I mean, last night I did tell you guys one 50, right? And then I, then I just switched it on you all of a sudden
Andrew Hiller (00:39):
That’s yeah. Well I think we were all on the, the two 50 page, right?
Sevan Matossian (00:43):
Yeah. Yeah. Whatever. I wasn’t, I was on the one 50 page until the last minute, until about, about 30 minutes before we came on, I, I, I was told I was wrong. It was two 50 and I just fucked myself. Anyway. Who cares? We are here. Did you guys, it doesn’t matter. Did you guys watch with, uh, uh, unwavering focus?
Andrew Hiller (01:03):
Of course, third heat men and women. I watched with unwavering focus.
Sevan Matossian (01:08):
All right. Me too. But I, I think I did watch most of it. Uh, so what we saw, where we did see the teams go, um, I, I just wanna make a quick, uh, some say something there. Um, what do I wanna say there? I, uh, Tanya Wagner was talking about how, uh, Mr. Suza. Hi,
Andrew Hiller (01:28):
Lost
Sevan Matossian (01:28):
My, sorry. I lost my cool. Sorry. I lost my cool Matthew.
Mattew Ouza (01:31):
Oh, I am I, I 17 episodes and I have never, ever done that as bad. I apologize. I apologize to all the viewers. Oh,
Andrew Hiller (01:40):
This is super
Mattew Ouza (01:40):
Responsibility. It was a hundred. My fault Sivan called me. He goes, he goes, it’s one 50. Right? I go and looked down on my notes. No, two 50. We’re good. Cool. Thanks. I get a text about the gym. Taylor’s like we going right now. I have my hearts going like a hundred, but where’s my Whoopie score. It’s like, it’s like 1 95
Andrew Hiller (01:58):
Whoopy. Someone
Sevan Matossian (01:59):
Throw someone, someone throw the banner on the bottom. We are not professional media. Ooh. Um,
Mattew Ouza (02:04):
Matt is not professional media. The rest of you gentlemen are doing a great job though.
Sevan Matossian (02:08):
Matt, you’re amazing
Mattew Ouza (02:10):
For
Sevan Matossian (02:10):
Your patience. There is that young lady on that. Uh, I had no idea her tongue to Wagner, say this in the live feed. That young lady, Sasha Nevis. Am I saying her name? Right?
Mattew Ouza (02:20):
Oh, here comes someone to save me. Now.
Sevan Matossian (02:22):
She is. Oh yeah. Look at that. Handsome devil, SAS, Sasha Nevis. Uh, the at 15 years old, she was on the, uh, youth Olympic team and she won the bronze. And when they asked her about her 200, uh, pound, uh, complex lift, uh, she said it was easy. And the, uh, mayhem independence team went on to take first place. Uh, you guys aren’t surprised right
Andrew Hiller (02:49):
Now. Can you hear it here? Can, can they hear
Sevan Matossian (02:51):
Me? No, we can’t hear, but go ahead. Say, tell us your deepest inner thoughts.
Andrew Hiller (02:56):
<laugh> he doesn’t have any Jason
Sevan Matossian (03:00):
<laugh>. Ah, we just heard inside of Jason Hopper’s minds.
Andrew Hiller (03:04):
<laugh>
Sevan Matossian (03:07):
Uh, Jason, did you have a chance to watch any of that? Uh, any of the, uh, happenings over at the Mac where you, you won that event last year, right?
Jason Hopper (03:16):
Yeah, I did. Uh, yeah, I, I watched a little bit of
Sevan Matossian (03:18):
It. Uh, what, what parts did you watch and, and what stood out to you?
Jason Hopper (03:25):
Uh, I watched the guys and Noah missing a couple of lists stood out. Um, and then, I don’t know. I don’t know who missed. Who was the dude that lifted first started out with
Andrew Hiller (03:38):
The dude from Mexico. Louis Oscar Mora. Yeah. That was the fucking man. Bad, bad move, buddy. Yeah, that
Jason Hopper (03:44):
Was, that
Andrew Hiller (03:45):
Was pretty. What was a bad move about if he would’ve hit it, he was very close to hitting it. He was coming for the record. Nice to meet. Yeah,
Jason Hopper (03:52):
Dude. Hold on. Nice to meet you Heller.
Andrew Hiller (03:54):
Oh, hopper. Nice to meet you too. Finally,
Jason Hopper (03:58):
You heard, heard a lot of great things, dude. Watch a few
Andrew Hiller (04:00):
Videos. You,
Sevan Matossian (04:02):
You haven’t heard one fucking good thing. What are you talking about?
Andrew Hiller (04:06):
I’m I’m sure it’s 50. 50.
Sevan Matossian (04:08):
I see you be asshole in the internet. Five or six times. It’s good to see you on seven podcast might light up
Andrew Hiller (04:12):
A bit. I got, I’ve got no reason to pick out hopper. Hopper is a good moving in, man.
Jason Hopper (04:18):
Appreciate you. Yeah.
Andrew Hiller (04:20):
Okay.
Sevan Matossian (04:20):
Back back now, back to this, uh, this guy who looks like he’s from a boy band from Mexico, what did you think about him? Uh, hopper.
Jason Hopper (04:28):
I mean, he, he was, he looks SW, but I’m saying it’s a bad move. If he, if there was any doubt that he was gonna miss or make that lift as an opening, as an opener.
Sevan Matossian (04:41):
Uh, okay. Did you see his post post fight interview
Jason Hopper (04:45):
One there’s one rule when it comes to weightlift, when you, your, your weight, your first weight always needs to be a weight that you’re able to lift, getting spray with a fire hose.
Andrew Hiller (04:58):
Who taught you that weight?
Sevan Matossian (04:59):
Yeah, that’s good. That’s good. That’s good.
Andrew Hiller (05:04):
That sounds FRA Somera and Fraiser. Wisdom’s pretty good though. I like it. What would now a fire hose. That’s powerful as shit. That’s a strong hose. <laugh> have you ever been sprayed with one to give you freaking a rash? I’ve seen Rambo that’s about all I need to do.
Sevan Matossian (05:20):
Hey, um, hopper, do you guys do anything crazy like that? Do you do, does, has he ever turned a hose on you when you’re lifting and say, okay, make the lift and stay focused. Some Mr. Miyagi shit
Jason Hopper (05:31):
All the time.
Andrew Hiller (05:32):
Did he touch your butt when your dad lifting?
Sevan Matossian (05:34):
<laugh>
Andrew Hiller (05:37):
Just, just the hole. Just the hole.
Jason Hopper (05:42):
Um, I can’t tell you, I can’t tell you if that was a good lift or not based, like if he, if he really thought that he could hit that, getting spray with a fire hose, then, I mean, it should be a good opener, but apparently it wasn’t a good opener.
Sevan Matossian (05:55):
He said that he was hoping to 3 50, 3 50. That was his goal.
Taylor Self (06:03):
I just think he,
Andrew Hiller (06:04):
How do you know? He said that?
Sevan Matossian (06:06):
Cause uh, he said it in the end, in English. He, he, before he, before he, uh, uh, praised, uh, Viva LA, Mexico, he, he said, he said at the, uh, his post fight interview, he was there with, uh, Zach Watts who I could easily confuse with Tyler, Christopher. Um, he said that, uh, he was going for three 50.
Taylor Self (06:23):
Well then Jason’s right. He fucked up his opener. You can’t miss the opener.
Sevan Matossian (06:27):
<laugh>
Sevan Matossian (06:29):
What could he have said that made, made it so that, uh, that was, he would’ve had to say he was going for four 30. His third lift was gonna be four 30.
Taylor Self (06:35):
No, I think you just should have said, man, I was taking a shot and I fucked up cuz that’s what it looked like.
Sevan Matossian (06:40):
But, um, Jason, what happens before? Um, they go out, what did, how long was his warmup lift before he did that lift. And do you think that played into it? Do you think he lifted something on the side and he was like, oh 3 35 is gonna be easy.
Andrew Hiller (06:57):
Why are you laughing?
Taylor Self (06:59):
Yeah, I have no idea. He’s slowed down. He’s on a delay.
Sevan Matossian (07:03):
Hopper. Listen to me. You listening. It was nice having you on the show. Thank you. No, no. You just sit there and smile. Don’t say anything else? Uh,
Jason Hopper (07:13):
I couldn’t, no, I couldn’t hear a thing. I couldn’t, I couldn’t hear a thing for the last, like two minutes. I’m sorry. What was, what was talking
Sevan Matossian (07:19):
About? Do, do we like, do we, did you like the fact? And we do, we like the fact, um, that, uh, Tia, rich, Matt, these people can get close to their athletes while they’re lifting. Um, and they can be there and coach them pretty much directly. I mean, rich could have spit on, uh, Tyler while he was lifting. I personally like it as a fan. I thought it was cool.
Jason Hopper (07:38):
Yeah. I think it’s cool.
Sevan Matossian (07:40):
Helps athlete and, and, and the other and the other events don’t really have that.
Jason Hopper (07:45):
Yeah. You shouldn’t have that in any other event,
Sevan Matossian (07:47):
Just that <laugh> you like it, but it shouldn’t be what are Tyler? What, what are, uh, Taylor and Andrew doing? Are you guys having an eyebrow off? Were you guys just lifting your eyebrows at each other?
Taylor Self (07:57):
I’m just reading.
Andrew Hiller (07:59):
Taylor’s got eyebrows, eyebrows.
Sevan Matossian (08:06):
Uh, so, oh, uh, so, so, but before we leave the, the teams and really get into individuals here, I wanna say something. So we’re not surprised where independence is at Luke Parker, two 90, uh, Sasha Nevis, a 15 year old. Well, she was a, when she was 15, she won the bronze and the youth Olympics. No, there’s no surprise here. This was an easy win for them for a total of a 9 35 for the team lift.
Andrew Hiller (08:27):
Um, not no surprise at all from my end, but I wanna talk about the Koda teams there. There’s two Koda teams there. And I know that I know two of them. I know Megan and boyish. They’re, uh, they’re a pretty well constructed team over there. So they’re gonna do pretty well this weekend.
Sevan Matossian (08:42):
What does that mean? Koda teams? They’re from the Dakotas north and South Dakota.
Andrew Hiller (08:46):
No, they’re outta Colorado. Oh, so, so I, I just know they have a bunch of games experience, and I know that they actually do a lot of work with the worm. So when there are actual workouts, those was just a barbell workout and they’re already doing pretty well. But when the work comes into play, they’ll actually hold up real well, especially against mayhem independence, say it right now.
Sevan Matossian (09:05):
Does the leaderboard work, uh, SU mm-hmm <affirmative> could we see it for the teams? Jason? How did you get in on this call?
Jason Hopper (09:16):
Uh, Jr. I was bugging Jr. While he was driving and he said I needed a, what, what was it? An activity, an activity. <laugh>
Sevan Matossian (09:24):
<laugh> and, and the Rubik cube. He forgot the Rubik cube at home. So instead he just puts you on his podcast.
Andrew Hiller (09:31):
Yeah. So they’re in third, fifth right now, the two coded teams I was talking about. And then there’s a kilo team too. That’s one of those teams outta Iowa. I always tell you about, so I I’m, I’m pretty big on the team side of thing. We always talk about the individuals, but the, the, uh, the kilo teams are always, they’re the ones that beat us in regionals back in 2018 and the Coda teams, I just know kind of hammered the team thing all year. That’s all, they’ve been looking forward to lot to work on the worm.
Taylor Self (09:59):
Luke Schaffer’s team. Yeah. Kelo,
Andrew Hiller (10:01):
Correct? Yeah. He’s the one, I think he’s one of the coaches and programmers.
Sevan Matossian (10:05):
Hey, can we go over to last? I wanna see what, what mayhem, uh, what what’s the team that rich is on? What’s like the good team mayhem, fireworks, mayhem, freedom. What did they get? <laugh>
Andrew Hiller (10:14):
Oh,
Sevan Matossian (10:14):
So they got the, so they got the same thing. 9 35. They got the same thing as independence.
Taylor Self (10:21):
Wow, wow.
Andrew Hiller (10:22):
Yeah, they did that on purpose.
Sevan Matossian (10:23):
Okay. They did not do that on purpose. I’m sure. Rich would’ve wanted to win. Um, Susie, can you find anyone who had a better, a better, uh, lift at any of the other events? What about at lowlands?
Andrew Hiller (10:33):
I think Ray big had a better lift,
Taylor Self (10:36):
Not surprising,
Mattew Ouza (10:38):
Uh, an 8 95 in Torian pro and oh, yep. 9 55.
Sevan Matossian (10:44):
Uh, because of to,
Taylor Self (10:45):
To, yeah, Annie’s really strong too, but Tola for sure.
Sevan Matossian (10:50):
All right. Okay, cool. Let’s go down to the individuals. We only had one event, right?
Taylor Self (10:58):
Yep. A lift,
Sevan Matossian (11:00):
A lift. And, uh, it was the complex that every single semifinal has to do has had to do. Uh, and we started with the females that was broken into three heats. Do we like that? It broken into three heats.
Andrew Hiller (11:15):
Yeah. To whatever it drags it out a little bit. I suppose they could have done it into, but it’s, it’s been three heats both weeks. So they had it’s standardized, right? Yeah. They had to do it in three.
Sevan Matossian (11:26):
Um, what do you think about this thought? I had this thought watching the, the complex, if somebody wins an event in the first heat, then it’s not a CrossFit event. Do you know, do you know what the implications of what I’m saying there? That means you’re a specialist. If you’re in the first heat and you win, then it’s not a CrossFit event.
Taylor Self (11:49):
What about the legless run a guy in the first heat won that last week Uhhuh and that’s a couplet.
Sevan Matossian (11:55):
Yeah. Yeah.
Taylor Self (11:56):
Okay. Or is that just mean the test is outdated? I kind of agree, but I kind of disagree. I think there are some workouts that favor specialists, even if they’re CrossFit and I think there are definitely workouts like this, where it’s
Andrew Hiller (12:07):
Didn’t Josh.
Sevan Matossian (12:08):
And what about Tia? Winning it? Say, say it again.
Andrew Hiller (12:11):
I think Josh bridge is won that thruster double under workout of the games in 2017. And he was in the first heat or he was close. I know he put up like a top two score, but he was like, that was his final year competing individual. I I’m not incorrect.
Taylor Self (12:26):
He did 2018, but just got,
Andrew Hiller (12:29):
It was 2018. Okay.
Taylor Self (12:30):
2017 was the, was the, uh, 17 five.
Sevan Matossian (12:34):
It may not be a fact, but, but I
Andrew Hiller (12:36):
Think double under thruster workout. Yeah. Yeah.
Sevan Matossian (12:39):
It may not be a fact, but I do think it’s an interesting point. It’s interesting to look at. I mean, Tia did the same thing too, right? I mean, she won the complex and it’s like, and she’s, she wins the, the pure CrossFit events too easily. Right.
Andrew Hiller (12:51):
Uh, it’s just one of those things where she’s just so fucking good at everything that she’s unstoppable. But when you’re talking about kina key and the first he 2 35, what do you think she’s not gonna do so hot on the rest of the events. And then it’s gonna be kind of alluding to what you’re getting at here. It’s not a good CrossFit event and she’ll, that’s gonna be her only good finish this weekend.
Sevan Matossian (13:10):
You tell me, is that what you sort of expect from her? Do you think she’s gonna fall from there?
Andrew Hiller (13:15):
Uh, I, I would expect she’s gonna fall from there. And if only because I I’m, I’m unaware of her name. She’s, she’s got the 300 pound front squat. Right. That’s what we were talking about the other day. And I don’t think that she’ll hold up well, on the rest of the weekend, to me, I’m kind of looking at events two and three of the quarter finals to be the standard for how well these people are gonna do in this, but should being in the Mac. That is,
Sevan Matossian (13:37):
Hey, you guys gotta be impressed with Sid tion. Has
Jason Hopper (13:40):
She?
Andrew Hiller (13:41):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Jason Hopper (13:42):
She has. She won, uh, Jr’s competition. Cru.
Sevan Matossian (13:47):
Who, who did? Sidney
Taylor Self (13:50):
Calla.
Sevan Matossian (13:51):
Okay.
Andrew Hiller (13:52):
Oh good. She,
Jason Hopper (13:53):
Yep. The year, the year, the year Taylor took seventh,
Andrew Hiller (13:57):
<laugh> learned it’s that competi. If we learned anything, it’s that competition Jr. Puts on kind of is a good benchmark for our what’s going to come right with the exception of, I suppose Taylor <laugh> cause he did real well grant at games last year. What do you got there? All the
Sevan Matossian (14:15):
Colton I’m showing off my Colton me’s baseball card. I’m showing off my Colton me’s baseball card over at the, at wherever wa zombie sells his good, his goods, his merch, uh let’s city. Ion’s a beast. She is a beast. I wanna, I want you guys to tear her lift up though. How is it that the girl that got the second best lift? I, I, I was noticing that it for, it looks like a dead lift and then a fucking hang clean,
Taylor Self (14:39):
Say,
Sevan Matossian (14:39):
I couldn’t even fucking believe it how slow it is. But, but on top of that, someone said this and I didn’t understand this. They said, Hey, she’s not gonna make her third lift because of that hitch. What are they talking about when they say it hitch
Taylor Self (14:51):
That’s she, she like pauses in the second pool. Right? As the bar’s coming to her hips. She like, it’s almost like a lot of, I feel like a lot of it’s you don’t see it very often in experienced lifters, but a lot of inexperienced lifters will pause there to almost make sure or ensure they make hip contact. Um, it’s just
Andrew Hiller (15:13):
Didn’t me Obrien. Have some of that going on for a while.
Taylor Self (15:17):
I, I believe so.
Andrew Hiller (15:18):
She had that hitch going on.
Taylor Self (15:20):
I, I would, I would assume that’s probably quite fixed.
Sevan Matossian (15:24):
Why did they call it that?
Taylor Self (15:25):
The hitch cuz it’s as you stop, basically you, you hitch at mid thigh to ensure hip contact, which just slows the lift down. Yeah. Tell us, ah, that wasn’t that bad.
Sevan Matossian (15:37):
Hey Susan, do you remember what her specialty was? Was she a swimmer? She did something like she comes from some.
Mattew Ouza (15:43):
Yeah, I think she was a swimmer.
Andrew Hiller (15:46):
There it is.
Mattew Ouza (15:48):
And I think that’s what that, that’s what her deal was.
Sevan Matossian (15:51):
Hey man, this is a, this is gonna be a problem. What you got? You got someone who can swim in the water. Who’s also winning strength events. I mean, this is the, these are the kind of signs. These are the kind of data points that’s like, oh shit. They can do everything. Scroll down. Let’s see if we can see something else. Okay. Sorry. Go ahead. No.
Jason Hopper (16:09):
All right. I’m leaving.
Sevan Matossian (16:11):
And this girl’s young too.
Andrew Hiller (16:12):
Hopper. Let’s see you later.
Sevan Matossian (16:14):
You’re no, Jr. Howell.
Taylor Self (16:17):
At least we got his deepest, most insightful thoughts.
Andrew Hiller (16:22):
I don’t think you could keep up with that. I think he was a little bit behind.
Taylor Self (16:26):
No, he was definitely on a lag.
Andrew Hiller (16:28):
Yeah. And he was driving how bad would’ve been if he would’ve crashed while we were on the call,
Taylor Self (16:34):
He was J Jr was driving.
Andrew Hiller (16:37):
Oh, okay. Why were the windows open?
Taylor Self (16:39):
<laugh> yeah. Who knows? She’s looking good for sure. So far.
Andrew Hiller (16:47):
So that’s really big on Sydney.
Sevan Matossian (16:49):
I am. I, I am big on her. I, I, well, I’m big on her cuz because she was on the show, but that’s always a, that’s always like gets you to the 51 yard line. Uh, so, so do you guys agree that that clean needs to be, uh, to be super duper cleaned up?
Taylor Self (17:02):
It needs work, but if yeah, yeah. Oh
Mattew Ouza (17:04):
It shows her potential too. Right? Because I mean, if she’s doing that coming to almost a dead stop with the barbell, once that clean gets more straight up and down more vertical, she’s gonna become more powerful with it. So yeah. Maybe she’s not even, you know, we haven’t even seen the most of what her potential has.
Taylor Self (17:19):
Well, who’s who’s gonna fix it is my only thing.
Sevan Matossian (17:21):
Who who’s your coach? Is it Michelle lat?
Taylor Self (17:24):
It’s uh, it’s a comp train.
Sevan Matossian (17:26):
Oh she’s Ben
Andrew Hiller (17:28):
Eron. Yeah.
Taylor Self (17:29):
And that’s Hey,
Sevan Matossian (17:29):
He’s gonna fix it. What do you mean by that? What do you mean? Who’s gonna fix it. He’s gonna fix it or Cole’s gonna fix it or, or whoever Chandler’s gonna fix it or one of those people. No. Why you got that? He
Andrew Hiller (17:37):
Doesn’t well,
Sevan Matossian (17:38):
He doesn’t, he doesn’t Ben Eron doesn’t fix lifts.
Andrew Hiller (17:41):
Ben Bergron tells everyone to be the best selves and then they end up going to the games.
Taylor Self (17:46):
I don’t know that. I think there are two really good movers that Ben’s ever coached Cole and I think that’s on Cole. Maybe not,
Andrew Hiller (17:53):
But he’s always been that way.
Taylor Self (17:54):
Exactly.
Andrew Hiller (17:55):
Cole cut you off. Yeah.
Taylor Self (17:56):
Cole’s always been a good mover. And then Matt and he coached Matt for maybe like, I dunno,
Andrew Hiller (18:00):
However long. 10 days. Yeah,
Taylor Self (18:02):
Exactly. And Matt was, and Matt was only the weightlifter. I think you look at his long time
Andrew Hiller (18:06):
Then Berger on story about Frazier was he saw him doing Godzilla and an affiliate and he emailed him and he’s like, oh my God, that guy did Godzilla in four minutes. I have to have him. And then, and then Frazier was like, I’m outta here. <laugh> after he had that whole debacle of him not licking. Oh your top moment of the game’s the spirit of the war. Not me winning. Like what the fuck?
Sevan Matossian (18:25):
Yeah. That’s gonna be hard for him to live down. That’s gonna be hard for him to live down. Where did, where did he say that? Where did he say that? In his book
Andrew Hiller (18:32):
I think was in, I think he was in one of your guys’ episodes. Oh, I do believe that’s true. Yeah. Yeah.
Taylor Self (18:38):
You own all the hot content buddy.
Sevan Matossian (18:40):
Well, I lo I, I, I, I like me some Ben bur on, so I’m, I’m moving on. I let you guys hate on him. Ke
Andrew Hiller (18:45):
Didn’t Kerin didn’t improve. Her lifts is a, uh, something I’m reading the comments. That’s also true. I only saw her getting weaker as she,
Taylor Self (18:52):
Well, it was just a technique thing. It’s a technique thing. Kerin doesn’t have the best technique in the Olympic lifts. Neither does David Brook under, under Ben. And
Sevan Matossian (19:00):
So let’s talk about the lady who gave up her, uh, flesh fleshly desires, uh, for the weekend Bailey rail, uh,
Andrew Hiller (19:07):
She moves good finish. That’s exactly what we called. Right. Taylor, two 10. Yep.
Sevan Matossian (19:12):
She moves like perfect.
Taylor Self (19:13):
She moves like a dream.
Sevan Matossian (19:14):
Yeah. <laugh> uh, and, and, and, and, and what was nice is that girl that she was lifting next to, uh, Shelby, Neil. She was amazing too.
Taylor Self (19:22):
Shelby’s awesome. She won, uh, Jr’s competition this past year
Sevan Matossian (19:26):
And she has red hair. Like your mustache.
Taylor Self (19:28):
Yeah. We’re we’re she’s a good buddy.
Sevan Matossian (19:30):
Oh, she is same mom and dad.
Taylor Self (19:35):
<laugh>
Andrew Hiller (19:38):
I feel like we need to livestream this Jr. Competition. This is what has to happen next year. Everything good comes out of there.
Taylor Self (19:44):
It’s uh, it’s, it’s pretty hot, hot
Sevan Matossian (19:46):
Stuff. Um, B Bailey rail is a mayhem athlete, chalk. Another one up for the mayhem athlete, uh, for, for good moving. Uh, Danielle, Brandon, well, Danielle Brandon’s eyebrow. Have you guys ever seen that?
Andrew Hiller (20:00):
What about eyebrows?
Sevan Matossian (20:02):
She had <laugh> the experts is in the house. Um, half of her eyebrow brow was dye to match the color of her hair. I thought it was pretty gangster. I’d never seen that before.
Andrew Hiller (20:14):
Notice that I didn’t notice that. No, I was watching that one on my phone, so I missed that, but that is awesome.
Sevan Matossian (20:19):
Yeah. I think that’s better than the, um, uh, you know, people who get to piercing on the eye. I think that’s ridiculous, but I really like what Danielle did. She died half her eyebrow.
Taylor Self (20:28):
Did she shave a little line in it? Excuse
Sevan Matossian (20:30):
Me. No, no, mom, maybe I didn’t look closely.
Taylor Self (20:34):
I can’t,
Andrew Hiller (20:34):
You didn’t see it on your hundred TV?
Sevan Matossian (20:36):
No, I should have. I was actually on the, I was, I was watching this in my 42 inch TV in the garage. I was on the assault bike, um, hats off to Brooke Wells, uh, two 15 and Tanya Wagner, another super insightful, uh, uh, point here. I think she says Brooke is creating new memories, meaning, meaning post operation memories. How important do you think those are? Taylor?
Taylor Self (20:59):
Uh, super important. She’s feeling good. And she’s hanging in the top, especially on things that probably make her a little nervous. This is gonna be huge for her confidence going into event two, and then hopefully going into the games as well.
Sevan Matossian (21:12):
I know you’re a man of a, of a enormous heart Hiller in the post fight interview. She said, um, when, uh, Nikki Bre asked her
Andrew Hiller (21:24):
Brad Brazier,
Sevan Matossian (21:25):
You call her what you want. <laugh> um, uh, she said, uh, what would it mean to you to go to the games? And she said it would be very emotional. She went straight there. Do you think she’s like crazy emotional now? Like she can’t believe she’s back out there again, she tried to play it off. Like she’s not thinking about her injury, but I sent something
Andrew Hiller (21:42):
Whenever I hear that. I just hear like that stereotypical. I’m gonna answer with what’s the most PC, but I also do think that there’s a little bit to that with her. So most people also say, oh, just so emotional. That’s the female side. And then the male side, they always have their answers. But for her, I would’ve to say, yeah, it probably does mean a lot more to her at this moment to be out there competing as quick as she’s competing. And that lift was awesome. Looking by the way, by her, the entire complex I’m like, oh shit, she looks solid.
Sevan Matossian (22:09):
How about when their knees go in? Does that matter?
Andrew Hiller (22:12):
Yes.
Taylor Self (22:13):
Uh,
Andrew Hiller (22:14):
Not, not in competition. <laugh> every time someone’s like, oh, that’s a terrible lift. Look at their knees. It’s like, shut the fuck up. They’re lifting as much as they can. Yeah. But then when every single lift you see them doing throughout the entire year also looks like that. You’re like, all right, there’s gotta be something worked on here. Which I guess something like a sled push would be beneficial for that’s heavy as fuck.
Sevan Matossian (22:33):
<laugh>. Yeah, that does look heavy. That’s not actually a sled push. They’re just reorganizing the gym. She’s just doing some weights
Andrew Hiller (22:38):
Tonight. Get some cleaning.
Sevan Matossian (22:41):
Uh, when you see Daniel, Brandon, um, at, at Dick doing the two 15 DBE, um, and you see, or have to reorganize a couple times at the top of the jerk, are, are, are you heartbroken? Are you like, fuck
Andrew Hiller (22:59):
Heartbroken. I expected, I expected more weight out of her.
Sevan Matossian (23:02):
Meaning that’s the dead giveaway. She’s not gonna jerk it. You know? Like the, oh yeah. Just you see someone fussing around and organizing the lift a as opposed to what we saw Colton do with 3 35, he just came out of the hole and fucking threw it up.
Taylor Self (23:14):
Yeah. Zach Watts did the same thing on his last jerk. He rewr it a couple times and he was like, nah, fuck that.
Sevan Matossian (23:20):
And, and do we know as fans? Okay. Uh, there now there’s, it’s only a 5% chance you’re gonna make that lift. When we see you start like, like fussing around, what
Andrew Hiller (23:27):
Was that? You just turned into a transformer for a second.
Sevan Matossian (23:29):
Oh, when we see you do that and you’re at the top and you do a couple of these and maybe you go for one and then regroup and we see you take another goal of air. Do we know? Okay, fuck. You’re fucked.
Andrew Hiller (23:40):
I don’t think you know that you’re fucked. I think that there’s two types of people. Right. So I would have the thought that Colton on his lip, like that is probably doing that from the get go. He goes, okay, I know I’m gonna get to this as soon as I can. And yeah, I might allude to the fact that maybe something’s out of position and they’re trying to save it and at which right. Yeah, they probably are. But I just do, if there’s two types of athletes there, the one who likes to set up and really get ready for it. And then the second one likes to get it the hell outta the way. So that there’s less time under tension.
Mattew Ouza (24:09):
Well, I think after the whole complex, when you start seeing somebody fiddle with the bar, that much under that much time intention with the weight on them, like it’s not gonna end well. Yeah. Like I, and because think about it, you’ve just gone through three of the clean, some of ’em squat cleans and then two of the front squats. And then now you’re, now you’re trying to adjust and like, get it. The legs are already pretty torch. So I would say, unless you come up in a solid position, if you gotta do too much wiggle it around, it’s not looking good.
Sevan Matossian (24:35):
Unless you’re, what’s her name? What was the girl’s name? Who just fucking pushed the weight up basically a few times, Tanya Wagner said, good jerk. But I was like, really? That’s a good jerk. What?
Andrew Hiller (24:44):
That case? Like Calita
Sevan Matossian (24:46):
Uh, yeah, I think she was in the first heat,
Andrew Hiller (24:47):
The top, the top lift where she did just kind of, and her legs split couple inches and
Sevan Matossian (24:52):
Yeah,
Andrew Hiller (24:53):
I think that was her. I may be misspeaking, but I think it’s her,
Sevan Matossian (24:55):
Her legs don’t even bend. She’s like one of those cheap Barbies that only pivots at the hip, it’s just like, huh? You know what I mean? Huh? There’s like, no knee bend.
Andrew Hiller (25:03):
You’re the one who played with Barbie’s man.
Sevan Matossian (25:05):
Right, right, right, right.
Andrew Hiller (25:07):
We, we were power Rangers and Pokemon.
Sevan Matossian (25:09):
No, that’s Barbie dude. Uh, are there people? Oh, well let’s talk about this then too. Then about Noah. When we see Noah struggling on the front squat, are we like, oh shit too. Does, is that just an indicative sign? That the jerks not gonna be any good, cuz that means the legs are too tired to give any pop
Andrew Hiller (25:28):
Taylor take it.
Taylor Self (25:30):
Um, I, to be honest, both of Noah’s second and third lift, I was less concerned about when he got to the jerk than I was about Zach’s final and Danielle’s final. I think Zach’s final lives in Danielle’s final lift. I was like, after this front spot, I was like, yeah, there’s no fucking way. But then I watched Noah’s and I was like, ah, he’s got a chance. I mean, I was, I was honestly surprised that he missed both those jerks. Um, and the second
Sevan Matossian (25:53):
You think something’s wrong with him? You think he’s sick or something? You see anything
Andrew Hiller (25:57):
Injur? Yeah. A shoulder injury. Didn’t he last year it kinda looks like it’s a little bit of that.
Taylor Self (26:01):
Mm. I have no idea if anything’s going on. I hope he’s healthy, but
Sevan Matossian (26:06):
Um, can you go, uh I’m I’m can you go to the very bottom of my notes? Sorry. I don’t know why I’m I’m switching back to this, but I wanna, I wanna ask you guys a question going back to the team here for a second. And it there’s a picture of Angelo and I put a link to it. Um, what is going on here in this picture? Sorry. We’ll get back to the lips. I apologize everyone. A scroll to the last picture. I think. Why is Angelo wearing two whoopies
Andrew Hiller (26:34):
<laugh>? One is his one was probably his and one was probably given to him at the event to broadcast live his heart rate data. Ah, yep.
Sevan Matossian (26:44):
Ah, damn Hiller. You’re good. Remember shitty.
Andrew Hiller (26:48):
Hey, that might be me. Two lanes over. I was in this heat. <laugh> on the GD and the blue shirt <laugh>
Sevan Matossian (26:57):
Oh, at that, what event is this?
Andrew Hiller (26:59):
This is the first event with the, uh, pig flipper. And there was a team of three men.
Sevan Matossian (27:04):
So, so, but do two whoopies work better than one Whoopie? Uh, Hiller
Andrew Hiller (27:09):
Zero whoopies work ever.
Sevan Matossian (27:12):
<laugh> that’s a Dr. Seus book.
Andrew Hiller (27:14):
<laugh> that was a good, that was a good rhyme right there. There’s your next real,
Sevan Matossian (27:18):
Thank you. Thank you. I, I believe this too. I’m a little concerned. What I saw from Noah. I, I mean, I know it’s early. Um, I, well, I actually have high hopes for Noah, but I don’t have high hopes for no, I’m scared. He, he, he, he made me a little nervous.
Andrew Hiller (27:33):
Then he’s in a be all right. He’ll probably win the next five workouts. No, no, he won’t be beatingsaxon but he’ll be doing well. He’ll he’ll still make it.
Taylor Self (27:41):
I think he wins event too.
Andrew Hiller (27:44):
I agree with you on that.
Sevan Matossian (27:45):
Oh, what is event two?
Andrew Hiller (27:48):
The GD sit up. Handstand walk over.
Sevan Matossian (27:51):
Oh, right. Okay. That’s the one you guys like so much. You guys wanna spend three hours talking about how much you love it,
Andrew Hiller (27:58):
Dude. Hell, Heins bringing up the, the Sean Woodland Hiller impression on my guy, Riley. Good. I have that all like keyed up and ready to make a thing. I was gonna do that. But you started the show an hour early. What
Sevan Matossian (28:10):
Did he say? Oh, are you talking about the, are you talking about the bouncing bar?
Andrew Hiller (28:14):
Uh, he got no rep for bouncing the bar on his first attempt. And then I think it was on his third attempt. He got no rep for reset. He didn’t get no rep. So he should have been Nora cuz he let go to the bar in his hip pocket and then he goes, well, I guess it doesn’t matter. Cause he lift anyway.
Sevan Matossian (28:32):
Uh, and
Taylor Self (28:33):
Did he say that like facetious or was he
Andrew Hiller (28:35):
Uh, no, he was just speaking. Matter of fact, it, it wasn’t coming after me, but you know, I’m gonna it like he was, of course I am. <laugh> <laugh> totally not coincidence.
Sevan Matossian (28:47):
So, so let’s talk about the bar bounce. I would say that everyone used a bounce off the bar, but you’re saying, they’re saying that he actually bounced the bar, the distinction being, letting gravity bounce it versus you pushing it down.
Taylor Self (29:04):
He accelerated the
Andrew Hiller (29:05):
Bar. His I’d have to say that of everybody. The only one who like clearly was trying to not get any sort of a bounce. Would’ve been the guy who won the event. Oscar.
Sevan Matossian (29:16):
Wow.
Andrew Hiller (29:16):
Did you see, did you see him coming to the floor? It was like he was trying to make no noise. Like one of those, no bounce deadli he
Taylor Self (29:22):
Had a lot of control and he
Andrew Hiller (29:23):
Had so much control.
Taylor Self (29:24):
Beautiful, clean technique,
Andrew Hiller (29:26):
Correct?
Sevan Matossian (29:27):
God, he looked like just a slab of meat.
Andrew Hiller (29:30):
Yeah.
Taylor Self (29:30):
He doesn’t have a neck. He turned around in the camera and he’s like, holy fuck. Where did his neck
Andrew Hiller (29:34):
Go? All trips.
Sevan Matossian (29:35):
<laugh> Copperfield vanished. Uh, his neck. Okay. Page one, done. Uh, pepper. Uh, are, are we still, uh, are we still high on, on
Taylor Self (29:51):
Very high? Yeah, that was great. He, that was, that was money for him. 3 25 was good.
Sevan Matossian (29:56):
What did we see that we liked? What.
