#386 – Justin Medeiros, Miranda and Julian Alcaraz

Listen now

Sevan Matossian (00:00):

Let me know if you guys can hear this when I play it. Bam we’re live.

Mattew Ouza (00:08):

Yep.

Justin Medeiros (00:11):

You thought just Maderas was dangerous on an empty ranch in aromas, California. Wow. Welcome to the Coliseum. Big boy Mades been standing up. I have enough time and mades is in Justin mades. Brought the house down at the end of day. Number one, the lone Americans sitting in podium contention at the moment, Justin Maderas is your overall leader. Maderas is in a position coming into Sunday that not a athletes have been in a position in for the last five years. And that’s wearing the leader Jersey going into the final day. Strength technique. Endurance is out the window. It’s all coming down to guts. What we just saw was incredible. Justin mades, trying to leave no doubt Business in the front party, in the back fitness all over Justin Mattos is the fitness man on earth.

Sevan Matossian (01:31):

Thank you rogue. Thank you rogue. Thank you, Caleb. Thank you, Matt Suza. That was a great show. Uh, we’ll be back in 45 minutes with the founder of street parking Moran and Julian. And that’s it for us today. Goodbye. Y’all goodbye. Just kidding.

Mattew Ouza (01:52):

Just kidding.

Sevan Matossian (01:55):

I wonder if we get a, I wonder if we get like a, a warning from YouTube for that, or like, do we, do we already have a ding? Can you just, can you just go check on our YouTube channel Caleb and see like we already got a for that

Mattew Ouza (02:08):

Down right in of that for sure. Boom. The champ is here. <laugh> what’s up

Justin Medeiros (02:14):

Guys?

Sevan Matossian (02:15):

Oh my God.

Mattew Ouza (02:15):

What’s up brother.

Sevan Matossian (02:21):

I’m clicking with you. I’m clicking with you. I,

Mattew Ouza (02:24):

Is it you just taking it in,

Sevan Matossian (02:25):

Taking it in? I’m just taking it in <laugh>. I said, I said on one of the shows, I didn’t click with Justin and uh, then I text him the other day and I said, Hey, uh, I’d love it. If you came on the show, he goes, fuck you. You are me in midget. I was like, wow, that’s a little harsh.

Mattew Ouza (02:39):

Yeah. That seems like something he would say.

Sevan Matossian (02:42):

Not exactly like that. That’s how I took it. That’s how I took it. He really just said, I thought we didn’t click, but, but that’s how I took it.

Mattew Ouza (02:50):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (02:51):

He had a micro, he had a microaggression on me.

Mattew Ouza (02:54):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (02:57):

Uh, uh, Caleb, could we play that clip from Facebook? Um, really quick. Um, I wanna see if, uh, if we can get Justin to cry, just like a, like just a little bit of it, just a tiny, tiny, tiny schmoozy. Schmoo

Mattew Ouza (03:10):

It’s gonna be an emotional show.

Sevan Matossian (03:11):

Oh man. It’s so fucking crazy. How good you are. It’s fucking nuts. Here we go. Here we go. Here we go. Let’s see you. What happens here? Let’s see. Who won the games last year?

Mattew Ouza (03:21):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (03:28):

Did Patrick win

Speaker 4 (03:29):

Ladies and gentlemen or for Kelsey? I give you our new champion.

Sevan Matossian (03:39):

Hey, I love it. How it’s Dave’s name on the screen, even though Justin won look, looking at Justin gets his Chiron. Let’s see if he gets a graphic. Nope, no graphic for the champ.

Mattew Ouza (03:48):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (03:50):

At least you’re still around Justin. You’re in control of your own fate

Mattew Ouza (03:54):

Around someone

Sevan Matossian (03:55):

Kicked that Mexican to the curb. <laugh>

Mattew Ouza (03:58):

<laugh> good time. Oh,

Sevan Matossian (04:03):

Holy cow. Do you have any, um, do you have memory of that?

Justin Medeiros (04:08):

Oh yeah, no for sure. I mean, it took me a while. Like I went back and watched the event, but like, it was so weird to like watch it because like I knew what I was thinking like at each stage throughout that event. And it was just like weird to like kind of see it. But yeah, I remember that event very, very well.

Sevan Matossian (04:25):

Ha has anyone ever, um, uh, sat down with you, like maybe the buttery bros or someone who, some someone who’s making, I don’t know, uh, telling a story about that and asked to go through every event. Have you ever done that? Sat down and gone through every event.

Justin Medeiros (04:39):

Um, CrossFit kind of like they’re doing like the documentary for, um, this year’s game. So that was a while ago. I think we did a version of that. Just kind of talking about the games, but we kind of went through every event, not in detail, but just kinda like broad picture.

Sevan Matossian (04:55):

Is that out yet? Is that documentary out yet?

Justin Medeiros (04:57):

Not that I know of.

Sevan Matossian (04:59):

Oh, what would that command

Mattew Ouza (05:05):

Come on the doorbell

Sevan Matossian (05:09):

And they’re hot and topless. Hey, I wish I could say that was Caleb. Just doing a sound effect.

Mattew Ouza (05:16):

Hey, um,

Sevan Matossian (05:17):

Are you, are you in, um, Washington? Are you in, uh, Iowa?

Justin Medeiros (05:21):

Uh, never been in Iowa before, but

Sevan Matossian (05:24):

Where do you go to school?

Justin Medeiros (05:25):

Idaho?

Sevan Matossian (05:26):

I that’s what I said, Idaho.

Mattew Ouza (05:28):

<laugh> close.

Sevan Matossian (05:31):

Um, you’re in Washington. Yep. Is school over?

Justin Medeiros (05:35):

School’s over? I graduated in December, so

Sevan Matossian (05:37):

No shit. Congratulations on. Okay. Tell me what that feels like. Like, tell me what’s the last class you were sitting in that kind of that ended and you were like, oh shit, it’s over.

Justin Medeiros (05:49):

Just like my, my last like kinesiology class. It was honestly weight training. So that was nice.

Mattew Ouza (05:55):

Yeah. But uh,

Justin Medeiros (05:56):

Yeah, it was, it was honestly just like, it was weird. My last semester. I didn’t really, um, take, I only had four classes after the games, but um, yeah, I just had those last four classes. I moved back to Boise after the games and then kind of finished up school.

Sevan Matossian (06:13):

God, you’re so young.

Justin Medeiros (06:16):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (06:16):

I’m so old. <laugh> uh, this is nuts. So, so you sat in that class and you finished and then you cl you climbed onto that rooftop illegally.

Justin Medeiros (06:26):

Exactly. <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (06:27):

Okay. That’s awesome. Did anyone tell you to get down?

Justin Medeiros (06:29):

No, surprisingly, no. It was good.

Sevan Matossian (06:32):

Ladies and gentlemen, what makes this show different is, is that you could actually call in. We’re not gonna let you talk, but we’re gonna let you let you listen to Justin Madera. Uh Maderas uh, uh, breathe it. That is how I’m saying it, right? Maderas right. Yep. And all the everyone else in the world says Maderas but they’re wrong.

Justin Medeiros (06:50):

Yes,

Sevan Matossian (06:52):

<laugh> fuck. I love that.

Justin Medeiros (06:53):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (06:54):

Love being the only one. Who’s right.

Mattew Ouza (06:56):

Nice flex. Nice.

Sevan Matossian (06:58):

Thank you. And um, and, and then did, and so then you finished your last day and then, and then how long before you do the graduation, you walk, you put on all the ceremonial gear.

Justin Medeiros (07:07):

I didn’t do it.

Sevan Matossian (07:08):

No, that was just a show. That was all bullshit right there. That was just costume.

Justin Medeiros (07:12):

Yep. My mom sent it to me and I took those pictures to make her happy. And uh, yeah, I was a like on the way to the airport, I like finished my last class grabbed that, grabbed my friend to go take the picture, took the pictures and then got in plane <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (07:27):

And, and, and why, and why not? Because you just got, you have shit to do. Is that the real reason?

Justin Medeiros (07:32):

Uh, just other things that I’d rather be doing, you know?

Sevan Matossian (07:36):

I mean, did do, and, and did you go back to Stockton or did you go to a Washington?

Justin Medeiros (07:41):

Um, after I graduated, yeah. Uh, I was still in Boise. I just thought like that, that weekend. Right when I graduated, I went to, uh, see Mars in Hebrew and them in salt lake city. So like I finished my last class, took the pictures, got a plane and went there

Sevan Matossian (07:54):

Instead of doing the graduation, you were making podium commercials.

Justin Medeiros (07:58):

<laugh> yeah. That’s where, that’s where I went right after that. <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (08:03):

That’s crazy.

Justin Medeiros (08:04):

Does that looks so much more fun?

Sevan Matossian (08:06):

I, I mean, yeah, I would, I would think you could do both you. I mean, I, I have the same sentiment as you like the graduation thing. Like doesn’t interest me a lot. Uh, damn. You’re strong.

Mattew Ouza (08:16):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (08:21):

Oh,

Mattew Ouza (08:22):

I was get nervous when someone calls in Justin.

Sevan Matossian (08:24):

No, this, for some reason, that’s someone calling on my phone, but it came onto the show’s phone. Uh,

Mattew Ouza (08:30):

Oh, uh,

Sevan Matossian (08:31):

That would be, that is weird. When that happens. It doesn’t happen very AF often. Oh, let me see. Um,

Mattew Ouza (08:39):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (08:41):

I just got a funny take, Justin. We are gonna throw an event at the ranch in a year in some you are. Yes. And it’s gonna be called the California hormone games. There’ll be no testing there.

Justin Medeiros (08:55):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (08:56):

So there’ll be dudes, just like twice your size. Just like with fucking like veins, like bigger than your penis, like on their neck and their forehead.

Justin Medeiros (09:04):

<laugh> you’re you’re all in for that, huh?

Sevan Matossian (09:08):

Yeah. How much prize money do we have to get for you to go to that?

Justin Medeiros (09:13):

Oh, God dude. That would be a lot. What are the events? Is it like a cross that game? You see these Ted out dudes just lift a bunch of weights.

Sevan Matossian (09:23):

I’m not so arrogant that I think I could program it. I would prob I have a friend who lives down this 11 miles down the street from me at the ranch that I would probably have program it point.

Mattew Ouza (09:33):

Oh, that’s funny. No straight

Justin Medeiros (09:35):

Events. Yeah. No straight <laugh> all cart.

Sevan Matossian (09:38):

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. It’s all running.

Justin Medeiros (09:41):

<laugh> hill runs. Good.

Sevan Matossian (09:45):

Um, I posted a, uh, I took my boys to the mall two, five year olds and a seven year old and, and they, they were like tripping. They’d never been in the mall and they were tripping on the smells shit like that. And uh, and then they started just running laps in there to them. It looked like a track. Right. Cause it’s like all the shit in the center. And then, and so they just start running laps in there and I’m laughing and people are filming ’em and I’m filming them and everyone’s in masks and my kids are running around barefoot anyway. And your mom, uh, hit me up and she’s like, I didn’t take Justin to the mall until he was wealth.

Justin Medeiros (10:17):

Yeah. Seems about right. <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (10:21):

You?

Justin Medeiros (10:22):

I had no idea what that place was.

Sevan Matossian (10:26):

You are country. Uh, go ahead caller. Before, before I, we find out about how little the Justin didn’t even know that the earth was round until he was 16. Um, go ahead. Do you have a question for Mr. The, uh, for the champ for this man alive? Hey

Speaker 6 (10:38):

Justin. Yep. Yep. Hey Justin missed Alex. No, uh, us over in the, uh, street parking CrossFit, uh, rumor mill. Just wanna see how her name was going with Ellie. And uh, and

Sevan Matossian (10:54):

Yeah, he said, he said I got A, he hung up.

Mattew Ouza (11:03):

Oh, I thought you hung up on it.

Sevan Matossian (11:05):

No, no. I should have shoulda

Justin Medeiros (11:08):

Like Saval, but yeah, no,

Sevan Matossian (11:09):

Uh, Alex, sorry. Your connection was so bad. What, what was the question? Go ahead. Write it down there. Did you hear what he said? Justin? Justin.

Justin Medeiros (11:15):

The

Sevan Matossian (11:15):

First part.

Justin Medeiros (11:16):

Okay. About, um, how training with L been, at least that’s what I got out of it, but yeah, no, it’s been awesome. Ellie came right at the week after quarter finals, she came up, um, kind of trained for like a week and then really liked it kind of extended her stay. And then she actually just left on Friday to go back cuz she has to compete at the Torian in Australia. So she just, she just went back to, um, cuz we’re like two weeks out now. She it’s the first week of semifinals. So same weekend as the one I’m doing syndicate.

Sevan Matossian (11:50):

You what, which CrossFit gym are you at?

Justin Medeiros (11:53):

Me? I’m at cross Fort Vancouver,

Sevan Matossian (11:54):

CrossFit. Fort Vancouver been around forever. Probably currently. Probably one of the top 50 oldest affiliates, I guess in the world. Yeah. Uh, home to, uh, uh, the owner, Adam Neer.

Justin Medeiros (12:06):

Nier

Sevan Matossian (12:07):

Nier

Mattew Ouza (12:08):

Uh, and the streak is over

Justin Medeiros (12:10):

<laugh> streak is over

Sevan Matossian (12:12):

The owner is Adam. Nier a great guy. I love him. Uh, been a guest on the show a couple times. Um, not enough for me to know his name. Oh, we do click, uh, Adam, your coach and I click. Um, and, and, and so you’ve been training with him for how long?

Justin Medeiros (12:28):

Summer of 2019 I think. I think that’s when we started about may

Sevan Matossian (12:35):

And, and, and the reason why you went to him, he obviously has a shit ton of games experience in, uh, regard with the teams.

Justin Medeiros (12:41):

Yeah. Yeah. He was, he, he went to 10 consecutive games

Sevan Matossian (12:45):

Nuts. Wow. And then you, you train in sort of like a silo over there. There’s no one else. There’s not like, um, like you don’t look to your left and you, your training with, uh, uh Falkowski or, or GE or there’s, there’s no one there it’s just you.

Justin Medeiros (12:58):

Yeah, no, I mean, I mean, they, they have a lot of awesome competitors that have competed on the team, like throughout the years and everything like that. So there’s always tons of people that can go and throw down with, which is, uh, super awesome. But no, no one that’s been training for the games in recent years besides, I mean, Ellie’s been here for the past month and that’s been like my first real dose of having a training partner. That’s kind of like training for the same goal that I am.

Sevan Matossian (13:24):

And, and how, and how did that happen? Did you, do you know, do you know her? I, the only thing I know about her is she, um, she popped on my radar, uh, in, uh, at Wata Palooza. She was, is she crushed the first two events. Right. And then we tried to interview her and we had just a horrible connection. So the interview failed. But, um, and, and, and I’ve heard Brian friend talk about her as like, man, this is a really good athlete who deserves to go to the games, but unfortunately she’s in Australia and it’s like, it’s like the worst place to try to go to the games right now out of if you’re a female. Um, um, it’s that Ellie? Right? What’s her last name? What’s her last name? Turner. Okay. And so she just shows up there.

Justin Medeiros (14:02):

Um, well, uh, I’ve always like, I mean, ever since the games this year, I’ve really like, kind of wanted a training partner, but nothing that, like, I’m gonna super like push for, like if, uh, the right fit kind of comes along then, uh, like will make it happen. But like, I’ve been like doing what I’ve been doing and it’s worked really well. But I think having like a female training partner would be super, uh, like beneficial for me. Like I, there’s no way I could compete with a competitive male. Like, that’s just not how <laugh> I, I function. But, um, the opportunity kind of came along with her. She came out J just to work out for the weekend. She asked if she can come join up in. Um, and that’s pretty much like all it was and kind of turned in with more, which has been pretty awesome.

Sevan Matossian (14:43):

Um, have you, have you ever, was she at the game? She wasn’t at the games last year.

Justin Medeiros (14:47):

Yeah. Yeah, no, she was,

Sevan Matossian (14:48):

She was, did you talk to her at all there? Did you say hi to her? Did you know her there? Yeah,

Justin Medeiros (14:53):

I, I asked, I was like, Hey, I dunno if you remember, but I saw her at like great Dan CrossFit, like a couple days before the game, she was just like working out, outside. So like me and like the, just inside every CrossFit gym that whole week was just like a maniac in there. So we were like working outside. She was out there too. I talked to her probably for like five minutes then, but like, I felt super bad. I didn’t know who she was at the time. I was like, Hey, you meeted the games. Like you meet this weekend on a team. Like, what are you doing individual? And got the whole story. So I’ve known her since the games, but, uh, that was kind of my first time.

Sevan Matossian (15:23):

And could you gimme the details of how she ends up there? Does she, does she, um, text you or DM you or, or DM or text Adam? Nier the owner of CrossFit nice or Vancouver <laugh> um, like how, how does someone like get to, can anyone just be like, Hey, Nier, I’m OC like to come up there and train with Justin

Justin Medeiros (15:44):

Pretty much, man. I mean, shoot your shot, you know <laugh>

Justin Medeiros (15:48):

But uh, no, like, yeah, like we got that hopped on a phone call with me and Adam and, uh, just kind of like talked to her, let her know what we’re doing. You’re more than welcome to come up, train, see what we’re up to. And, uh, that, that was kind of the, it of the conversation. I mean, I I’ve traveled around, I’ve gone and seen like, I’ve, I’ve went to rich, I’ve gone across at mayhem, I’ve gone and seen Matt. Like I I’ve kind of traveled around myself and, uh, she was one of the people that reached out and was kind of wanted to come train. So, um, that was kind of like the extent of what I thought she said, she’s headed back to, uh, uh, Australia and she was just right up north, like five hours away in Vancouver, Canada, not Vancouver, Washington. And then, so she kind of just popped, got a flight down train in for the week and then, uh, ended up staying a lot longer.

Sevan Matossian (16:38):

Has anyone else ever done that? Have you ever trained with anyone else? I mean, in, in, at CrossFit Fort Vancouver?

Justin Medeiros (16:45):

Uh, no, I haven’t had anybody else. Uh, I mean that Invictus team in 2019 came out. I think that was it. I didn’t make the games or anything that year, but, uh, like that, that, that whole crew, like Lauren Fisher Reagan Huckaby, um, Dave came in, but other than that, I don’t think anybody,

Sevan Matossian (17:07):

Uh, Trina says any flirting. That’s we’re not there. We’re not there yet. We’re not. I’ll ask that in a little bit. I’m sorry. I, sorry. Small. She’s jumping, she’s jumping the gun a little bit. <laugh> um, when, when you find out, when you find out you’re, um, someone’s coming and you say yes on the phone, are you, are you giddy? Like, um, like, you know, like in the third grade, when there’s a new kid in the class and you’re like, oh shit, there’s a new kid here. This is kind of cool. I wonder how they’re gonna play kickball or I wonder where they’re from or you’re just kind of excited. There’s a new kid. It’s a new you to the dynamic or are you like, you know, there’s a lot of times like, I’ll agree to do something like, my wife will be like, let’s go to this person’s birthday party and it’s two weeks out. I’m like, great. And then the night before she goes, you know, we’re gonna that birthday party tomorrow. I’m like, no, I don’t wanna go. Like I fucking hate, you know what I mean? Sound like such a good idea when it’s two weeks ago. Oh yeah. So the day before she’s about to show up, are you like, what, what did I agree to?

Justin Medeiros (17:57):

Or yeah. Oh, no, no, for sure. I’m Def definitely like super nervous. Like obviously right away she re reached out like come out like, oh yeah, heck yeah. That’s gonna be awesome. Like week after, uh, quarters, like I had obviously had a really good show with. And then, uh, I was like, this is gonna be super fun. And all of a sudden you start getting nervous and I’m like, Frick. Well, she’s just been training with pat. Like she’s gonna be comparing me to him and like, just like all this stuff. And then all, obviously it just spirals, but, uh, it turned out to be like really, really awesome.

Sevan Matossian (18:22):

So as soon as she gets there, the ice is broken in you’re chill.

Justin Medeiros (18:24):

Yeah. Yeah. Good. I felt so bad that we like picked her up from the airport and then, uh, Hinshaw was coming into town. So I wanted to like do a little mile time trial. So we went straight from the airport to the track.

Mattew Ouza (18:37):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (18:38):

With her too. Yeah. Oh, you’re a Dick.

Mattew Ouza (18:42):

Yeah. How was the flight? We’re

Justin Medeiros (18:45):

Go long. Like we told her when she come like, Hey, like you can do your own programming, do what you want to do. Uh, feel free to hop in like, whatever you wanna hop in at. But, uh, like, this is what I got and this is what I’m gonna do. So like, feel free to hop in for like whatever you want. So, but yeah, it was pretty funny.

Mattew Ouza (19:01):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (19:02):

I’m, I’m really super anxious that she’s coming. Oh shit. Oh shit. Oh, she’s here. Fuck. Straight to the airport to the track. Run a mile for time and Haws gonna be watching us. Yeah. Holy shit. Wow. Hey, I betcha. I bet you, if we asked her if she was nervous shit, <laugh>

Justin Medeiros (19:20):

I’m sure. I’m sure.

Sevan Matossian (19:21):

Did she do it too?

Justin Medeiros (19:22):

Yeah, no, no. She ran it and it was awesome too. Cuz she’s from Australia. So like they don’t run mile time trials. Like that’s not a thing like yes. To everyone here. Like, oh yeah. What’s your mile time. You have an answer. Like hers is like a one K and a two K or like more like they’re they’re like I was like, so she had no idea what she was gonna like run for it. So a she’d be hard though. So

Mattew Ouza (19:43):

<laugh> wow.

Sevan Matossian (19:45):

Justin, Maderas the fittest man alive and, and, and just basically just crushing everything feeling. How old are you?

Justin Medeiros (19:52):

Uh,

Sevan Matossian (19:54):

23, 23 years old. Um, and, and rogue had that little event where you, where you peeled off another couple hundred thousand dollars, huh?

Mattew Ouza (20:01):

<laugh> oh,

Justin Medeiros (20:02):

Good. Oh, good. Sure.

Mattew Ouza (20:04):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (20:05):

Yeah, you’re a Savage and, and you didn’t do waza.

Justin Medeiros (20:09):

Nope.

Sevan Matossian (20:09):

And you didn’t do that one in the desert where to run up the snow bank.

Justin Medeiros (20:13):

<laugh> Nope. The one in the desert

Sevan Matossian (20:15):

<laugh> yeah. Um, and so, so the only events you do, you do the rogue event and you do the, the big one, the, the CrossFit games one.

Justin Medeiros (20:24):

Uh, I mean, yeah, no, I, I, this off season I wanted to, I mean, this was school and training and like been trying to like, just qualify for the CrossFit games of the last three years. It’s just been like a year round, constant grind. And I never really felt like I had like a true off season and I’m young. My body can handle it, but like, I wanna be here for, for a long time. So I kind of wanted to pick one competition to, uh, kind of do, and that was rogue this off season. So I trained for the games, took some time off and then had a short little lead up, like to kind of train for the, for rogue, but turned out awesome. I mean, I, I told myself like Gulu was still like, kind of on the board, but after having like a really good showing at the rogue, I was just like, okay, like, I’ve earned it. Know like, I’m gonna take some time, rest up the body, like start training for the games next year and not just keep trying to, like, you end up training for the games, then you train for rogue. Then you train for water. Flua then the opens there, the next thing you know, you’re just right back in the cycle. You never had that off season. So

Sevan Matossian (21:26):

Justin Madera just said that he chose rogue. I’m going to push back on that just a little bit. <laugh> I’m gonna say that rogue chose him. <laugh> that the great bill Hegar called Justin Maderas and said, Justin, I’d like to have you at the event.

Justin Medeiros (21:42):

<laugh>

Justin Medeiros (21:43):

Dude. It just like an awesome event. I don’t know.

Sevan Matossian (21:45):

I know it is. I know it is. I’m not saying that they twisted your arm, but I’m saying that bill wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Mattew Ouza (21:51):

<laugh> it’s like, you want your own t-shirt you’re

Sevan Matossian (21:54):

Gonna be, is that, is that true? I heard, I heard bill one time offered offer. This is just a rumor, but I heard bill one time offered rich Froning a pool. He would build him a fucking pool at his house. If he entered the games one more year and rich didn’t do it.

Justin Medeiros (22:09):

Oh Lord. Sure. <laugh> but man, I don’t know. I mean, dude, rich and uh, that’d be very interesting.

Sevan Matossian (22:16):

<laugh> Hey, we, um, uh, may and someone watch the comments, maybe someone will pop in and be like, yeah, that’s true.

Justin Medeiros (22:22):

<laugh>

Sevan Matossian (22:23):

Uh, I’m pretty sure it is true. I, I have some good sources on that, but, but, um, um, but does bill do, does bill or Katie Heger give you your own personal call? I mean, you are the man <laugh> and you’re not just kind of the man, like it wasn’t like, oh, you kind of won. Like you’re the guy.

Justin Medeiros (22:41):

I mean, no, like I, I, I talked to them. I signed up for the competition. I mean, I text, I like text with like Katie and bill. Like they’re, they’re awesome. I we’re not there for the Arnold and stuff too. I mean, that was the first time I’ve honestly been to the rogue facility was just like a, a couple or like during the open was, uh, was my first time going to the rogue headquarters. It was like, it was nuts, but they they’re just freaking awesome people. Can’t say enough goods, things about them.

Sevan Matossian (23:05):

They are truly awesome. Uh, tell me, uh, what it’s like being at the rogue facility. <affirmative>

Justin Medeiros (23:11):

Dude, it’s, it’s crazy, honestly, like they have their gift shop and everything like that. That gym that’s insane there, but they have like, in the back with the warehouse with just all the equipment in it is just like endless, like it’s the biggest, there’s like a parking like lot inside of the facility for like 50 forklifts. Like it’s just like saying how big it is and they have like their employee gym and that’s where like I got to work out in. It’s like just for their employees, but it’s like the nicest gym that literally has everything in there. It was, uh, it, it was just super cool. And then plus being there during the Arnold, like just have fitness fanatics from all over the world there. I mean, it was, uh, it was super cool.

Sevan Matossian (23:51):

Did

Justin Medeiros (23:52):

You open announcement?

Sevan Matossian (23:53):

Say that again?

Justin Medeiros (23:54):

And the open announcement was at rogue headquarters too. So it was just fun.

Sevan Matossian (23:59):

Did you get mobbed at the Arnold?

Justin Medeiros (24:02):

It was, it, it was like a, it, it fluctuated kind of like where you, like where I was at. I mean, I did, um, like me, Matt, um, and stuff like that did like, um, what’s it called? Like meet and greets, like at the rogue booth there. And obviously there’s tons of people coming up saying hi and stuff like that there, but it wasn’t like, uh, like waza was like hard to kind of like walk away around without getting noticed. But there, I mean, it was, you, you got stopped by a couple people, but you have fitness people that from like every realm of fitness. So it was like super cool to kind of like be a part of it. Cause I’m a fan. And like, you gotta watch these insane guys do like these crazy lists. And they have like a million other sports people in night outfits fighting with and like, oh shit.

Sevan Matossian (24:47):

Oh, they did have that there. And they did have that there. They

Justin Medeiros (24:50):

Had that. They had like pole dancing, like as a sport there they had.

Sevan Matossian (24:53):

Wow. Wow.

Justin Medeiros (24:54):

What’s the fake wrestling called a mind blinking

Sevan Matossian (24:56):

Right now. WWE.

Justin Medeiros (24:57):

Yeah, they had like that there, it was just insane. They had the most craziest events they had. Um, there’s like two people that hold onto a stick and there’s a board in the, we try to pull the other person over the stick. I dunno if I’m making sense.

Sevan Matossian (25:10):

How about that? How about the one where you get slapped across the face? They got that one that

Justin Medeiros (25:15):

Crazy. It was so much fun. <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (25:18):

Did you watch that one?

Justin Medeiros (25:20):

No, I, I was so I, I, I had a train, so I went and trained, but bars and Hebrew, they’re all the, I got like slowmo videos of it fucking knocked out. It was insane. Oh

Sevan Matossian (25:32):

Shit. I I’m surprised Mars. Didn’t step in for that. <laugh> I could see him doing that.

Justin Medeiros (25:39):

Awesome.

Mattew Ouza (25:40):

Hilarious.

Sevan Matossian (25:41):

Um, uh, what was your mile time Justin?

Justin Medeiros (25:44):

It was fast.

Sevan Matossian (25:45):

I knew it. I fucking knew it. Hey, that’s why I didn’t. That’s why I didn’t Keegan. That’s why I didn’t. I knew it. I mean, I just knew it and, and you know what? I was actually gonna be cool about it. I was gonna be like, you know, I know I was gonna like, like give it a preface. It what’d you say Matt, give

Mattew Ouza (26:01):

It a guess. Like you just gonna guess a time. No, I

Sevan Matossian (26:03):

Was gonna preface it with like, I, you know, I don’t mean you, but what was your mild,

Justin Medeiros (26:07):

Well, what do you think my mile time is?

Sevan Matossian (26:09):

What do I think it

Justin Medeiros (26:10):

Is? Yeah. What do you think it is?

Sevan Matossian (26:12):

Five 15.

Justin Medeiros (26:14):

It’s a good guess.

Sevan Matossian (26:15):

If you were going, if you were going as hard as you could.

Justin Medeiros (26:18):

I like it.

Mattew Ouza (26:19):

Yeah. 5 30, 2 <laugh>

Sevan Matossian (26:22):

Five 15 is so fucking fast.

Justin Medeiros (26:24):

What’s your mile time?

Sevan Matossian (26:25):

Mine. Yeah. I think my fat, I think I haven’t run a mile forever. I think my, my fastest was, I was like sub eight. I was like seven minutes.

Justin Medeiros (26:31):

Oh, come on.

Sevan Matossian (26:32):

What is that? Bad? You so bad? <laugh> I’m just telling you. I’m just telling you

Justin Medeiros (26:38):

Sub

Mattew Ouza (26:38):

Eight. Hold on. We got this comment too. I wanted to, uh, thank ju Katie. The answer is yes. He’s planning on beating everybody.

Sevan Matossian (26:44):

Oh geez. He doesn’t even know who Jason is. He doesn’t even know who Jason is.

Justin Medeiros (26:50):

Oh Lord.

Sevan Matossian (26:52):

Uh, uh, uh, Justin, Justin dropped more trophies this year than Jason’s picked up in his life. Okay. <laugh> Yeah. I, I, I knew you. Weren’t going to, I knew you. Weren’t going to, um, I knew you were, I knew you weren’t gonna say the mile time, but I, I tried to even kind of bully you into it. I was trying to be like extra assertive. So tell me your mile time. You know what I mean?

Justin Medeiros (27:13):

Yeah.

Sevan Matossian (27:14):

You’re too good. Why not have a, um, why not train with another boy? You’re like, you’re like, nah, I can’t do that now. Why, why, what? That’s no, why not?

Justin Medeiros (27:23):

It’s another male competitor, but they can’t be training for individual at the CrossFit games.

Sevan Matossian (27:28):

<laugh> and wh and why is that?

Justin Medeiros (27:30):

Why like you’re helping your competitor. You’re making it harder on yourself, you know? Like what, that’s just, that’s pretty much the main reason. And then plus, I mean, you, I think it goes both ways. You can get like that false sense of whole, if you’re training every day and beating him and you’re like, oh, heck yeah, like I’m super fit right now. But then what if he wasn’t going hard and then you go, go to competition. You just get like slapped in the face. Or the flip side of that is you’re getting beat every day by him. And like, now your self confidence like goes out the window and you’re just not like you don’t got your head on straight and stuff like that least like train with the females, like, okay, like if she beats me or I beat her, like at the end of the day, we’re not training or we’re not competing against each other on the leader board. So we can like help each other out as much as we can. And there’s like real, no consequence to it. But you still get like that competitive, like feeling in the middle of the workout. Like you still wanna brag. You still wanna win. So it it’s, uh, I think that’s kind of been the best fit for me.

Sevan Matossian (28:27):

Did you beat up on Ellie?

Justin Medeiros (28:29):

Obviously? <laugh> yeah.

Sevan Matossian (28:31):

Good,

Justin Medeiros (28:31):

Good,

Sevan Matossian (28:31):

Good,

Justin Medeiros (28:31):

Good. Well, it’s really good. I mean, she, it’s honestly a super fun training partner cuz like her home run events are kind of some of the things that I feel like I need to work on and like vice versa. So I think that makes it like awesome to train with. You know?

Sevan Matossian (28:46):

Did you know what you just said before you came in to cross it? So early when we started talking you’re like, yeah, I’d train with rich. I trained with Matt. You you’d been around. Did you ever train with Scott pan? Did you ever train or any of the Patrick brothers?

Justin Medeiros (28:59):

No, I I’ve competed alongside them. Like before I, the games I competed with, uh, sax and Spencer at, um, the granite games,

Sevan Matossian (29:10):

But never like went to their house or their camp or anything. Okay. Mm-hmm <affirmative> so, so did you learn that training with Matt and rich just going to mayhem or train with Matt? Like, oh, this isn’t really for me. Is that where you learned that or you knew you knew that all along and you were just dabbling?

Justin Medeiros (29:24):

Um, I mean, uh, I, I wanna learn as my much as I can, so like I’m gonna train with so many people, like as I can, you know? Um, but,

Sevan Matossian (29:32):

But you, but you’re not gonna let ’em move into Fort Vancouver

Justin Medeiros (29:35):

Forever. I mean, if you’ve competed in sports, like why are you gonna help your competition? So that’s just something that I’ve always known.

Sevan Matossian (29:42):

I, I wonder, um, I’m trying to think if there’s any other male games, athletes. I can no one pops in my head who’s like that. I guess Patrick trains by himself, right?

Justin Medeiros (29:52):

Yeah. I think Brent does too.

Sevan Matossian (29:53):

And Brent does too.

Justin Medeiros (29:55):

Yeah, it was, it was awesome sitting on the podium last year. I mean all, all three of us. I mean, I think last.
